Actor Val Kilmer died on April 1st of this year, after a long battle with throat cancer. He was 65. Kilmer's film career began in the 1980s with iconic turns in the likes of Top Gun and Real Genius, but it was in the 1990s where be became an icon in a decade known primarily one dominated by iconoclasts, starting with his portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors, and including memorable bit roles in movies like True Romance, replacing Michael Keaton as Batman in Batman Forever, and what man consider his greatest role as Doc Holiday opposite Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp in Tombstone. Kilmer was an avid documentarian of his own life and was rarely without his camcorder. His own video tapes were repurposed to tell the story of his life and career in the moving and insightful documentary Val, directed by Ting Poo and Leo Scott, which captures a man who seems to know his time is almost up reflecting on the lessons of a life extraordinarily lived. That film formed the basis of this conversation between John and Julia discussing the strange life and career of this remarkable actor.

Welcome back to the Video Store Podcast! Our little store recently celebrated two separate milestones! Not only does March mark the one year anniversary of our fun little podcast, but this just so happens to be the 50th episode of the show, which means I (Rob "Flack" O'Hara), Ashley Thomas, and The Retroist have officially recommended 200 films for your viewing enjoyment. U hope you returned them all on time. For this week's show I had planned to do something that coincided with our show's anniversary… and right as I was walking the store's aisles looking for movies to recommend I learned of the untimely passing of Val Kilmer, which convinced me to change course. Kilmer will be remembered as one of the great actors of our time. From Batman to Willow, Kilmer was woven into the 80s and 90s. The hardest part about this week's show was narrowing my selections down to only four. Top Gun (1986)Ride into the danger zone with this classic from the 1980s starring Tom Cruise as Maverick, Kelly McGillis as Charlie, and Val Kilmer as the one and only Ice Man. When I was a teen I didn't know anyone who hadn't seen this film and yet today it seems many younger film fans skipped it. Featuring an all-star cast and a soundtrack full of hits that will “take your breath away,” Top Gun is a classic that remains watchable and relevant today. Real Genius (1985)In Real Genius, a group of brilliant college students are brought together to work on a project that someone may or may not have nefarious plans for. Val Kilmer is Chris Knight, a loveable, quirky genius who takes a fifteen-year-old genius named Mitch under his wings. Will the geniuses have what it takes to complete their project — and if they do, will they also be able to stop it? Real Genius remains one of my favorite 80s comedies of all time. A guy's gotta have his standards.Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)In this old-school pulp detective story dragged into the 20th century, a thief (Robert Downey, Jr.) and a private detective (Kilmer) work together to solve a murder — and then more murders… and then try to avoid getting murdered. This is a fantastic film, dripping with style and unexpected twists and turns. Sit back, relax, and try not to lose the plot… or a finger.Tombstone (1993)No tribute to Val Kilmer would be complete without this film, featuring his iconic performance as Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp's loyal friend. Also starring Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott, and several others, Kilmer's performance in Tombstone will never let you forget who's your Huckleberry.Rest in peace, Mr. Kilmer. If you haven't seen any of these in a while (or at all) feel free to check one (or all) of them out — just don't forget to rewind your tapes and have them back on time to avoid late fees. Thanks for visiting our store over the past year. Business is booming and it looks like management will be renewing the lease for another year! Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! This post is public so feel free to share it. Val Kimer was a versatile actor. From the zany comedy, Top Secret to Mavericks nemesis, The Iceman in Top Gun. It was Tombstone that people really saw him steal a movie and say….damn he's cool as shit! Doc Holiday even over Iceman would become the fans favourite role of his and so it should be. Join Ciaran and Trevor as they talk about this Western classic and of course the tragic loss of Val Kilmer. Please enjoy under these sad circumstances. #KurtRussell #ValKilner #BillPaxton #KevinJarre #SamElliott #PowersBoothe #MichaelRooker #MichaelBiehn #Dana#Delaney #RobertMitchum #CharltonHeston #BillyBobThornton #BillyZane #GeorgePCosmatos

Weekday afternoons on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Rich Zeoli gives the expert analysis and humorous take that we need in this crazy political climate. Along with Executive Producer Matt DeSantis and Justin Otero, the Zeoli show is the next generation of talk radio and you can be a part of it weekday afternoons 3-7pm. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- At 4:00pm today, from the White House Rose Garden, President Donald Trump will hold a “Liberation Day” presentation where he will announce new, reciprocal tariffs on imported goods. 3:10pm- In their new book, “Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House,” reporters Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen reveal that when Joe Biden made his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris pleaded for an immediate endorsement. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi were fighting for an abbreviated primary—fearing that Harris was incapable of winning a presidential election. Parnes and Allen report that Obama's ideal ticket would have featured Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Maryland Governor Wes Moore. 3:30pm- Hollywood actor Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65 from pneumonia. Kilmer starred in Tombstone, Batman Forever, The Doors, Top Gun, and most recently, in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick. Amazingly, Kilmer was never nominated for an Oscar—not even for his performance as Doc Holiday in Tombstone. Justin points out that Kilmer was nominated for an MTV Movie Award—but, somehow, he didn't even win that despite the incredible performance! 3:50pm- On Monday night at 7:00pm ET, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) began a speech from the Senate floor to protest the Trump Administration and its policies—claiming the administration has “inflicted pain” and rejected “common decency.” The speech ended 25-hours later—breaking Strom Thurmond's 24 hour and 18-minute record set while filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1957. In preparation for the speech, the New York Times reports that Booker hadn't eaten since Friday and hadn't had anything to drink since Sunday—as he wasn't permitted to leave the Senate floor to use the restroom during his speech. The Times also noted that Booker's marathon speech actually delayed a planned vote on a Democrat-led bill reversing President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian imports.

Trump signed an executive order which would place “reciprocal tariffs” on foreign nations and will serve as America's “Declaration of Economic Independence.” The tariffs will take effect at midnight on April 5th. The reciprocal tariffs will be half of what trading partners are currently charging the U.S. An additional 10% universal baseline tariff will be applied to all countries considered to be acting in bad faith. Will the Trump Administration remove tariffs on countries that remove tariffs on American-made goods? Trump stated: “To all foreign presidents, prime ministers, kings, queens, ambassadors, and everyone else who will soon be calling to ask for exemptions to these tariffs, I say—terminate your own tariffs, drop your barriers, don't manipulate your currencies…and start buying tens of billions of dollars of American goods.” 5:05pm- In response to President Donald Trump's tariff announcement, futures on the S&P 500 are initially down just over 1%. Notably, Canada and Mexico—two of the United States' top trading partners—were not explicitly mentioned for new tariffs. 5:15pm- Will the Trump Administration remove tariffs on countries that remove tariffs on American-made goods? This week, we discuss the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the 1881 confrontation between the Earp brothers, Doc Holiday, and the Cowboys in the town of tombstone, AZ.
John Ford serves up a classic Western story telling the events of Tombstone Arizona and the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Unlike more modern depictions, My Darling Clementine is a much more soft-spoken and melancholy movie, less about the lawlessness and debauchery and more about the casualties of a modernizing West. Join Juzo and Cameron as they discuss the often told tale of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. Tonight, we sit down with my special guest author and researcher Chris Enss who is an amazing researcher on the history of the Old West and she shares the story of the legendary Doc Holiday's love interest Mary Kate Cummings aka Big Nose Kate and her life during the Wild West. *2020 Will Rogers Medallion Award Winner (Western Biographies)* Doc Holliday's paramour Big Nose Kate could never get a publisher to give her the big bucks she demanded to tell the story of her life, but that didn't mean she didn't collect material she wanted to use in a biography. Over the fifty years Mary Kate Cummings, alias Big Nose Kate, traversed the West she saved letters from her family, musings she had written about her love interests, and life with the notorious John Henry Holliday. Using rare, never before published material Big Nose Kate stock-piled in anticipation of writing the tale of her days on the Wild Frontier, the definitive book about the famous soiled dove will finally be told. Kate claims to have witnessed the Gunfight at the OK Corral and exchanged words with the likes of Wyatt Earp and Josephine Marcus. There's no doubt she embellished her adventures, but that doesn't take away from their historical importance. She was a controversial figure in a rough and rowdy territory. What she witnessed, the lifestyle she led, and the influential western people she met are fascinating and represent a time period much romanticized.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

I'll call you Sandperson not to offend anyone. I worked as a dishwasher at a restaurant and a few waitresses made a joke when bringing back a hot soup kettle to me. They would say “this is hot like you.” One day a woman manager came back to the dish area carrying a hot pan and said “This is hot.” And then I said “and the pan” insinuating that I just called her hot. She had a bad restrained reaction to it and told waitresses that she just got hit on. The waitresses looked concerned and I even got a dirty look. The waitresses could say and do anything to me but if I made the same jokes I was seen as creepy. Not to mention one of the waiters hooks up with all the waitresses. Oh well. I'm a janitor now at a college that I graduated from and all the student workers treat me like a criminal. My soul is dead. I love you Sandperson! Sincerely, TheFastHat. Well Fast Hat thanks for the donation and for sharing your story. The manager you joked with decided to destroy your reputation just because. She probably understood it was a joke and that if you really were interested you would have made a move before. With female own group preference took her side of the story and labelled you a creep because she's the boss and you were not. If this were the 1950s and you said something like that in a restaurant no one would care. But because of the current year women are allowed to get away with making sexist jokes to men but men aren't allowed to make them towards women. Masculinity from men is offensive and not to be forgiven. But masculity from women is hip and sporty. I fear that our culture is quickly falling prey to the pussification of men. Men have to go back in time to find their heroes. Recently I was on Twitter and Boomer Bitcoin Billionaire Max Keiser was wondering why the film Tombstone was so popular with Val Kilmer stealing the show as Doc Holiday? Arguably the film is more popular today than it was almost thirty years ago. That's Partially because of it's badass quotable lines but also because it has something that modern films lack. Male role models with masculinty. That was around the time equality with women and political correctness was coming in to full force. There's a cut scene from the film where the love interest for Doc Holiday, Big Nosed Kate tells Doc to be careful because if he dies she won't know what to do. He responds by saying something like that's too bad for you toots. Basically making fun of her future pain and suffering. The sad state of Hollywood affairs is partially to blame for it but also the people that are being promoted as influencers these days like Obese Ethan Klein, Critical and guys I discovered the other day named Nick Is Not Green and Pinely. Men like them are being promoted as the ideal. Physically weak, non threatening and somewhat passive as well as being on board with the progressive agenda. Fast Hat you didn't match those criteria so now you're the janitor cleaning the disgusting mess in the women's washroom.
