This week, we review Snatch (2000), Guy Ritchie's frenetic British crime comedy set deep in the London criminal underworld. Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Benicio del Toro, and Vinnie Jones star as a chaotic ensemble of boxing promoters, gangsters, and small-time crooks in a story that explores greed, chaos, and the butterfly effect of criminality. With two intertwining plots — a priceless stolen 84-carat diamond and a bare-knuckle boxing fix gone very wrong — this film raises intriguing questions about whether luck, loyalty, or sheer mayhem is what really rules the underworld. Is Snatch a diamond in the rough, or just a rough diamond? As the name of this episode sugests, it was a lot of fun, so get ready for big giggles, Vero sings more than usual, and we do make a lot of pirate sounds! Lina shares more information on Vinnie Jones and Ben Presley, we learn the full lyrics to all songs, and at one point we yet again discuss a potential queerness of Galavant? Either way it was a very fun episode to both watch and hat about, so hopefully you will share our joy. Dean Holdsworth joins us this week, taking us inside the madness of the Crazy Gang and the sheer brilliance (and chaos) of eccentric owner Sam Hammam, who once famously “kidnapped” him to get a deal over the line. Starting out at Watford alongside his brother David, Dean recalls their early days winding up the formidable youth team boss Tom Walley. But after struggling to break into the first team, his journey took an unexpected turn including the bizarre moment he ended up in another club's team photo… without ever signing for them. Fast forward to the peak Crazy Gang years, and Holdsworth was flying, going toe-to-toe with the likes of Shearer, Ian Wright and Teddy Sheringham in the race for the Golden Boot. Add in stories of chaotic pre-seasons, a team bus being burned down, a terrifying knife incident at Goodison Park, and plenty of classic Vinnie Jones antics, and Holdsworth brings to life what it truly meant to be part of Wimbledon's most infamous era. After it all, he reflects on his time at Bolton and his later role as chief executive, where he helped save the club from the brink of administration, only for things to turn sour in dramatic fashion. From non-league obscurity to conquering the kings of English football — the story of Wimbledon FC from 1984 to 1988 is one of the greatest, wildest, and most unbelievable rises in football history. In this episode of By Far The Greatest Team, Graham and Jamie are joined by London football expert Stuart Burgess to deep-dive into the era that turned a ragtag group of misfits into FA Cup legends. Together, they revisit the extraordinary ascent of Wimbledon FC, a club whose direct football, intimidating culture, and unshakeable belief helped them smash through the English football pyramid and shock the world. We explore the characters who defined the Crazy Gang — Vinnie Jones, John Fashanu, Lawrie Sanchez, Dennis Wise, Dave Beasant — and the leadership of Dave Bassett, whose tactical clarity and uncompromising philosophy forged one of the most iconic identities in British football. Stuart brings rich insight into Wimbledon's South London roots, the personalities behind the rise, and the cultural chaos that made this team impossible to ignore. And of course, we relive the unforgettable 1988 FA Cup Final: Lawrie Sanchez's header, Beasant's historic penalty save, and the day Wimbledon toppled the mighty Liverpool to write one of the greatest underdog chapters the Cup has ever seen.Along the way, we unpack:How a tiny club stormed the First Division in record timeWhy the Crazy Gang's mentality became their greatest weaponThe behind-the-scenes influence of Ron Noades and Sam HammamDon Howe's tactical fingerprints on the Cup FinalThe long-term legacy of Wimbledon — and the birth of AFC WimbledonWhere does Wimbledon 1984–88 rank among the greatest teams of all time? We debate it, defend it, and place this unforgettable side into the Greatness Index.
Vi pratar också bland annat om: Adam Scovell, folk horror, Witchfinder General, Blood On Satan´s Claw, The Wicker Man, konfliktlinjen nutid/dåtid, folktro, vidskepligheter, The Folk Horror Chain, Candyman, Cabrini Green, isolation, urbana legender, folklore, hemsökt arkitektur, psykogeografi, liminal spaces, Nigel Kneale, science fiction, The Quatermass Xperiment, Quatermass 2, The Woman in Black, The Stone Tape, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, John Carpenter, Prince of Darkness, ockulta utredningar, Swinging London, kosmisk skräck, M.R. James, Whistle and I´ll Come to You, A Warning to the Curious 2. H.P. Scotty doesn't know, but Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey certainly do, every Wednesday on The Commentary Booth. He embarks on an impulsive quest across Europe with his best friends to find his German pen pal, Mieke. From the hallowed halls of the Vatican to the infamous red-light districts of Amsterdam, no misadventure is left unturned.Together, Jamie and Corinna dive deep into the film's iconic moments, from Matt Damon's legendary cameo singing "Scotty Doesn't Know" to the bizarre deleted scenes that were almost too wild for the studio. They discuss the film's surprising production secrets, its all-star cast including Michelle Trachtenberg and Vinnie Jones, and why this spiritual successor to Road Trip stands the test of time as a superior comedy.Highlights Breakdown: - The Infamous Song: The legacy of "Scotty Doesn't Know" and the genius of Matt Damon's cameo. - Deep Dive on the Cast: Remembering Michelle Trachtenberg and appreciating the comedic timing of Jacob Pitts as Cooper. - Production Secrets: How the entire movie was filmed in Prague, and the Anne Frank sex scene that was too controversial to make the final cut. - Cult Classic Status: Analysing why EuroTrip flopped in theatres but became a beloved hit, and why our hosts prefer it over Road Trip. - Cultural Time Capsule: A hilarious look at how the film's "stranger danger" internet themes from 2004 compare to our modern app-based world. With witty banter, sharp nostalgia, and a dash of chaos, this episode is a love letter to the golden age of outrageous teen comedies. When Robbie Earle left Port Vale for Wimbledon in 1991, he knew he was joining a cast of characters. John Fashanu, Vinnie Jones, Jason Euelle, Andy Clarke, Efan Ekoku and many more major personalities came together to make the ‘90s Dons one of the more charismatic sides in Premier League history. They welcomed Earle to the crew as only they could: By stripping him naked during a team run through a public park and leaving him with just a traffic cone “to cover the most embarrassing bits.”He quickly accepted the price of initiation into the Crazy Gang and enjoyed a nine-year stint in the English top flight with the Dons. He made 244 appearances and scored 59 goals from midfield. Nowadays, you can find him on your TV here in the States pretty much every weekend. That includes this one, because the Premier League kicks off later today on NBC Sports and Peacock.Robbie first came by The Football Weekend ahead of a spring 2024 title clash between Manchester City and Arsenal, and he returned to preview Championship Sunday later that season. In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we take a deep dive into Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train (2008) – a dark, unrelenting horror film that never got the recognition it deserved.Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and starring Vinnie Jones as the silent but deadly Mahogany, alongside a pre-Hollywood-star Bradley Cooper, this movie is equal parts brutal and beautiful. We look back at how the film was adapted from Barker's Books of Blood, exploring its themes of obsession, urban decay, and the monsters lurking beneath the city streets. We'll talk about the troubled release that led to the film's “lost” status, its striking visuals and gore effects, and why it deserves a rightful place among modern horror's cult classics.Expect behind-the-scenes stories, discussion of Kitamura's unique style, the film's shocking ending, and how this underrated gem paved the way for some of the most visually intense horror of the 2000s.If you've never seen Midnight Meat Train or it's been years since your last watch, this episode will make you want to jump back on board. For more of my content - CLICK HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast--4295531/support.

It's Die Hard in a bank! This week on DIE HARD ON A BLANK, we plug into SWORDFISH — the slick, post-Matrix cyber-thriller produced by Joel Silver and directed by Dominic Sena. With Hugh Jackman hacking mainframes under extreme duress, John Travolta dropping pseudo-Brechtian monologues, Halle Berry delivering the most famous topless scene of the early 2000s, and Don Cheadle constantly violating people's civil rights, it's a film that dares to ask: does it matter if a movie makes no sense, as long as it's entertaining? We also dig into Swordfish's dense meta-layering and debate the broader question: when is too much meta actually bad for the form? As always we break the film down in detail in our ‘Anatomy of an Action Movie section', hand out some ‘Die Hard Oscars' and wrestle with some ‘Double Jeopardy' brain teasers…heck, there's even a Vinnie Jones impression thrown into the mix for good measure! What more could you possibly want?! Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay head to the Feisty Goat to hang with soccer hooligans and talk 'EuroTrip.' Andy starts the episode off by recalling the first time he tried absinthe, and how it was similar to the characters trying it in the movie, as he didn't realize just how messed up it made him until it was far too late. Then the fellas use a Europass to jump on the train and discuss a movie with an inciting incident that involves an all-time hilarious cameo from Matt Damon, and one of the most infectious made-for-movie songs ever recorded. Things quickly go off the rails, both in the movie and on the episode, as the guys remember the dicey scenarios of meeting girls online in the early internet days. There's a story about being shocked at how brazen the proprietor of a sex club in Montreal acted, as the boys jump from sticky situation to sticky situation. They also take time to mention some of the memorable performances including a never-hotter Michelle Trachtenberg (RIP), a ludicrously creepy Italian Fred Armisen, and an eye-socket beer-opening Vinnie Jones. Much like the movie, it's just a breezy, bonkers episode that'll have you rushing to play 'Scotty Doesn't Know' as soon as it's over.

In this episode of The Rewatch Party, Nick, Anthony, Elise, and Dan dive into the gritty, fast-paced world of Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This 1998 cult classic, known for its stylish cinematography, sharp dialogue, and intricate plot, sparks a lively discussion among the hosts about its charm and rewatchability. Nick sets the tone, highlighting how the film's intertwining storylines and colorful cast of characters create a unique cinematic experience that's hard to forget. Anthony enthusiastically praises the movie's dark humor and razor-sharp wit, calling it a masterclass in balancing chaos and comedy. He points to standout characters like Bacon, Soap, and the intimidating Big Chris, portrayed memorably by Vinnie Jones, as key to the film's enduring appeal. Elise, however, notes that the densely packed narrative can be overwhelming on a first watch, requiring a keen eye to keep track of the various subplots. Despite this, she admires Ritchie's ability to maintain a frenetic pace without losing the audience entirely. Dan takes a moment to spotlight the film's iconic soundtrack, a blend of gritty rock and soulful tunes that perfectly complements the movie's British gangster aesthetic. The group discusses how Lock, Stock helped define a new era of crime films with its unique editing style and cheeky tone, which influenced countless movies to follow. While Dan appreciates the film's originality, he also raises questions about whether its distinct style might overshadow its substance on repeat viewings. As the hosts wrap up their discussion, they weigh in on the film's rewatchability. Nick and Anthony agree that Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is endlessly enjoyable, with new details to catch on every viewing. Elise feels it's a must-revisit for fans of clever dialogue and intricate storytelling, though she admits it might not suit everyone's taste. Dan concludes that the movie's boldness and charm make it a standout, cementing its place as a rewatchable gem in the crime genre. The episode ends with a unanimous appreciation for the film's impact on modern filmmaking, solidifying its spot on the must-watch list. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120735/

Gone in 60 Seconds is on trial this week. Is this an old banger or will it drive us round the bend? Ausy, a long time fan of Gone in 60 Seconds, finally gets the chance to defend this car heist classic with Dave, arguing it set the formula for car action films for the next 20 years. Joel and Alex prosecute, saying that a lack of cars in a car movie is criminal, and that too many characters means big actors like Robert Duval are left in the dust. All this with an impression of Vinnie Jones and a quiz all about some of Nicolas Cage's films from his later career, such as Primal. Does he fight a massive white jaguar on a boat or an assassin? Or both? www.filmsontrial.co.uk/259

Aug-Heist rolls on with a return to the mean streets of London! Following Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, director Guy Ritchie goes back to the well of the seedy underworld of British tough guys with this year 2000 release. Several LS2SB actors come back as well, including Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, Jason Flemyng, Alan Ford, and the film adds some non-Brits, too, with Brad Pitt, Dennis Farina, and Benico del Toro in the mix. Clearly following the "if it ain't broke, bloke, don't fix it, innit" rule, Ritchie hews closely to the formula of his previous film, but the film was a success both critically and commercial. Audiences ate up Snatch, but when Beef and Rum Daddy sink their teeth into it, anything can happen. Note: Lobster the Mobster (A.K.A. Jonny Two Claws A.K.A. The Singing Shellfish A.K.A. The Crusty Caucasian) is still in Witness Protection as of this recording. For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Before we score Guy Ritchie's second film, Snatch, we're giving you our review of his first. This week we're talking about Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, also one of our Legends of ‘99, the movie that launched the acting careers of Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones, began the directing careers of Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn, spawned a short-lived TV series, and, along with The Limey, is the second Legend of ‘99 to heavily employ Cockney rhyming slang. Join us as we have a butcher's at this farcical tale of four friends, two guns, and a whole lot of mistaken identity.
