It's the lesser-known, though still excellent, Al Pacino gangster film where he plays a recently released Puerto Rican gangster in NY who wants out of the game, he just needs to scrape together the cash to buy his way into his buddy's tropical rent-a-car biz. It also stars a young John Leguizamo as Benny from the Bronx who's the next generation of gangsters looking to make a name for themselves. It's a great movie and we had a great time covering it. You gotta see Sean Penn as a coked up criminal lawyer in this one. Hey there!

Hafsteinn fær Hödda aftur í heimsókn og í þetta skipti ræða þeir Scarface og Carlito's Way. Strákarnir ræða meðal annars hversu vel Scarface eldist, hversu góður karakter Tony Montana er, hvort fólk sé töff sem notar sólgleraugu á kvöldin, hversu vanmetin Carlito's Way er og hversu sturlaður Sean Penn er sem leikari.
The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are putting together another directorial double feature, this time looking at the films of Brian DePalma. The guys check out 1987's gangster classic "The Untouchables," and then for their cult movie of the week, they watch DePalma's 1993 reunion with his "Scarface" star Al Pacino, this time in "Carlito's Way," a suggestion from a fan. After these two movies, Ben and Nate both come to the conclusion that they don't know if DePalma is even a good filmmaker. Available on iTunes and Spotify Episode 272 includes: -Does Brian DePalma just suck as a filmmaker? -R.I.P. Kelly Preston, Naya Rivera, and Grant Imahara. -The action is actually the least interesting part of Netflix's action movie, "The Old Guard." -"Palm Springs" is a time loop delight. -Classic Film -- "The Untouchables" (1987) -DePalma's pulpy showdown between G-men and gangsters in Prohibition era Chicago. -Cult Film -- "Carlito's Way" (1993) -Al Pacino plays a Puerto Rican (?) criminal trying to get out of "the life" but can't help but find trouble. Also, Sean Penn's slimy lawyer character is totally Alan Dershowitz.
Glickman, Glickman. You listen to Nacho. This loyalty that you have for your friends, it's rare in this business. But someday, it's gonna get you killed. But not by the ultimate Latin Lover himself, Luis Guzmán, because he couldn't be more gracious. He indulged our questions about his start in the business and stepping in Don Johnson's light on the set of Miami Vice, working on Pluto Nash, a terrific prank from the set of Waiting, why Australia is a terrifying place, why he's the worst Grand Theft Auto player of all time, and how living upstairs from the set of Batteries Not Included was the perfect set experience, but he didn't tell us how Adebisi kept his hat on his head on Oz, so that will remain a secret for now. It's a fascinating interview with a terrific actor; it's the kind that makes you stick your dick in the mashed potatoes while listening to...THE NIGHT TIME SHOW!

Me and Shahid are back this week with episode #7 of hood classics....1993 Carlito's Way.
Best known for his films Dressed to Kill, Blow-Out, Scarface and The Untouchables, Brian De Palma became part of the New Hollywood generation of the 1960’s and 70’s along with Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Stephen Spielberg, but it wasn’t until his 10th feature and breakthrough film, Carrie, that he mastered the visual grammar of suspense, psychological thriller and crime drama and developed an approach in representing sex and violence that began to define his style. In this episode, picture editors Bill Pankow and Kris Boden, supervising sound editor, Dan Sable and Maurice Schell and re-recording mixer, Lee Dichter talk about collaborating with director Brian DePalma on films such as Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables, and Carlito's Way.

In the latest episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, Simon is in the 1990s, with two films that gave significant career boosts to their respective directors. By the time he came to make 1993's Carlito's Way, director Brian De Palma was firmly in movie jail, and reluctant to revisit the gangster genre. But what turned him around? Anthony Minghella, meanwhile, opted for Truly Madly Deeply because he wanted his directorial debut to be low profile and not widely seen. Little did he know... Stories of both are discussed in this episode... Find Simon on Twitter at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstoriespod. You can find the Film Stories website here.

Titus & John Presnall discuss the most thoughtful gangster movie of our times, Carlito's Way. Brian de Palma manages to provide a kind of sequel & a kind of improvement over the much more famous Scarface. Like Scarface, this is also a running commentary on how America remembers the Bogart of Casablanca, but not the earlier gangster films. The movie is also a comparison with the famous Italian gangster movies of Coppola and especially Scorsese. It's New York setting, in the Seventies, revisits the glory & misery of lawlessness, but does so in order to bring out a version of the American dream.
The Hag Saga™ comes to a rousing end, and the gang has to pull off the performance of their lifetimes to successfully weave their wicked web of lies. Ep. 68: Ingrid Rogers (http://www.theingridrogers.com/index.html) was born to Jamaican parents in Toronto, Canada and spent the first 9 years of her life in Jamaica. She was a big fan of the tropical lifestyle and the year-round warmth. And then… she moved back to Toronto, having never before owned a winter jacket or seen snow and yet finding herself in the middle of a winter that lasted what seemed like ten months! It was during this time inside thawing out that she became interested in the arts. When she was in high school, the acting bug bit after her theatre arts class wrote a piece called “Syanova” based on a newspaper clipping that their teacher found about Apartheid. After a short detour to the University of Toronto to study business, she found her way to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. For the next 3 years, she immersed herself in everything from Bette Davis to Commedia dell’arte. Two months after leaving AADA, she landed the role of Taylor Roxbury Cannon on “All My Children." One year into that role, she got the role of Steffie in “Carlito’s Way” opposite Al Pacino and Sean Penn! Through the years, she's had the good fortune of working with wonderfully acclaimed directors, including: Brian DePalma, Joel Schumacher and Woody Allen. And she's worked with such esteemed actors as Pacino, Penn, Benjamin Bratt, Jon Cryer, Ray Liotta and Tom Cavanagh. She's also done countless commercials. If you haven’t fast forwarded through the commercials, in the past few years you may have seen her in ads for everything from Diet Coke with Heidi Klum, to Home Depot, Xerox, Old Navy, Fidelity and McDonald’s to name a few. In 1999, she became a mom and entered into the world of multiracial parenting. And, in 2002, she met her husband (at Whole Foods, having walked in for a salad and walked out with a family). Listen as Ingrid describes her childhood, her career, her life as a parent and spouse, and her hopes and aspirations for the future (as well as who she'd choose if she got a choice to date Barack Obama or Justin Trudeau!).
