fWotD Episode 2902: Lady Blue (TV series) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 15 April 2025 is Lady Blue (TV series).Lady Blue is an American detective and action-adventure television series. Produced by David Gerber, it originally aired for one season on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) network from September 15, 1985, to January 25, 1986. It was picked up by ABC after its pilot aired as a television film on April 15, 1985. The show revolves around Chicago detective Katy Mahoney (Jamie Rose) and her violent methods of handling cases. The supporting cast includes Danny Aiello, Ron Dean, Diane Dorsey, Bruce A. Young, Nan Woods, and Ricardo Gutierrez. Johnny Depp also guest-starred on the series in one of his earliest roles. With cinematography by Jack Priestley, the episodes were filmed on location in Chicago. Television critics noted Lady Blue's emphasis on violence, calling Mahoney "Dirty Harriet" (after Clint Eastwood's character Dirty Harry). Rose said she joined the project after being drawn to its genre. She prepared for the role by watching Eastwood's films, received advice from Eastwood on how to handle a gun, and practiced at a shooting range. After the pilot aired, Lady Blue was criticized by several watchdog organizations (particularly the National Coalition on Television Violence) as the most violent show on television. ABC moved the series from Thursdays to Saturdays before cancelling it in early 1986, partially due to the complaints about excessive violence. Critical reception to the series was primarily negative during its run, but television studies author Cary O'Dell questions whether that stemmed from contemporary sexism. Lady Blue has not been released on DVD, Blu-ray, or an online streaming service. The series' rights are owned by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, but there are no plans for future home releases. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:44 UTC on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Lady Blue (TV series) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Danielle.

When it comes to supporters of the show, Tony Farina is the OG. And when it comes to stitch ups, the same could be said! Back when Chris and Dave were still finding their way with Comics In Motion, Tony found the podcast and suggested both Speed Racer and Tank Girl. And at the time, Chris believed these were the worst movies he'd ever seen. Fast forward to 2025, Tony has chosen a favourite of his. The much maligned, Hudson Hawk.Hudson Hawk was an infamously chaotic and overblown affair, marked by creative clashes, ballooning costs, and a shifting tone that left even the filmmakers unsure of what they were making. Conceived as a pet project for Bruce Willis, who co-wrote the story, the film was meant to be a stylish, fast-paced heist comedy with a quirky sense of humor. However, as production went on, the film became a strange hybrid of slapstick, action, and self-aware absurdity. Director Michael Lehmann, best known for Heathers, struggled to balance the various tones, while Willis—at the peak of his Hollywood power—reportedly had significant influence over creative decisions, leading to constant rewrites and improvisation on set.Adding to the mayhem, Hudson Hawk had a bloated budget of around $65 million, due in part to its globe-trotting locations, elaborate stunts, and extensive reshoots. The film was primarily shot in Italy, making use of grand European backdrops for its bizarre plot about an art heist intertwined with Leonardo da Vinci's inventions. Despite its high production values and an ensemble cast including Danny Aiello, Andie MacDowell, and Richard E. Grant, the film flopped spectacularly at the box office and was widely panned by critics. Over time, however, Hudson Hawk has developed a cult following, appreciated for its sheer audacity, oddball humor, and the sheer spectacle of witnessing Hollywood excess at its most baffling. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a world where stealing priceless artefacts is just another day at the office, legendary cat burglar Hudson Hawk is fresh out of prison and ready to go straight, until he's blackmailed into pulling off the heist of a lifetime. With his loyal partner Tommy Five-Tone by his side, Hawk must dodge ruthless criminals, corrupt CIA agents, and a deranged billionaire couple who want him to steal Leonardo da Vinci's secret alchemy machine. From the rooftops of Rome to high-speed chases and over-the-top action, Hudson Hawk sings, cracks wise, and fights for his life in a high-stakes adventure where the only thing more dangerous than the mission... is surviving it.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

This week, we can't help but fall victim to la bella luna as Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues with a classic rom-com about how it's impossible not to cheat if you're Italian. It's 1987's Moonstruck, directed by Norman Jewison, written by John Patrick Shanley, and starring Cher, Nicolas Cage, Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello, Julie Bovasso and John Mahoney. The story of a young woman who accidentally falls in love with her fiancé's brother, the movie exudes charm at every turn -- so much so that this little rom-com took home three Oscars in '88, for Cher and Dukakis's performances as well as Original Screenplay for Shanley's script that is funny without being rife with straight-up jokes. There are rich characters here, beset by curses and fatal strains of bad luck, who get laughs not by mugging or ripping one-line zingers but by believing in the seriousness of their tragedies so completely. This is character-driven comedy of the highest order, grounded by the Canadian coziness that Jewison can't help but leave all over the film. Plus: J Mo's got theatrical field reports on both Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Companion. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our discussion, it is one of the more widely available films we have ever covered as Moonstruck is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include Abigail, The Sixth Sense, The Usual Suspects, Identity, Trap, Fargo, The Wedding Singer, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Ocean's Eleven, L.A. Story, Paint, Napoleon Dynamite, ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothing, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, The Fabelmans, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Bicentennial Man, Bottoms and Punch-Drunk Love. Love Month continues next week with another VHS plucked from Hayley's collection as we'll be discussing 1996's Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger, and will do our best not to get side-tracked discussing the Mission: Impossible franchise but can't promise we won't. Jerry Maguire is currently streaming north of the border on Crave, Starz and for free (with ads) on the CTV app. And of course we're closing out February with a rom-com canon selection, 10 Things I Hate About You. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

n this episode, the hosts review the movie Hudson Hawk. They discuss their first impressions of the film, the cast, and the director. They also talk about the production process and the challenges faced during filming. The hosts share their thoughts on the drink they tried during the episode and rate it. Overall, they find the movie to be a fun and enjoyable watch, despite its mixed reviews and box office disappointment. Hudson Hawk is a fun and goofy movie that combines action, comedy, and heist elements. The film features memorable characters, such as the Candy Bar crew and the over-the-top villains. The heist scenes, particularly the art house and codex sequences, are highlights of the movie. The singing sequence with swinging on a star is a joyful and entertaining moment. The film was marketed as an action movie, but it is more of a slapstick comedy with elements of spoof. The actors, including Bruce Willis and Sandra Bernhard, had a great time making the movie and their enjoyment shines through. Overall, Hudson Hawk is a silly but enjoyable film. Hudson Hawk is a dumb but enjoyable comedy that is ahead of its time. The movie is high-energy and filled with funny scenes. The chemistry between Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello is perfect, and the actors clearly had a great time making the film. While it may not be well-made or have the best acting, it succeeds in providing popcorn enjoyment and a fun, slapstick humor experience. The movie is meant to be enjoyed without overthinking it, and it delivers on that front.

Wiz RECOMMENDS Moonstruck What can be best described as the purest Italian charm offensive ever put on film, Moonstruck is a movie that is made just to make you laugh and smile. The reason is twofold: the great performances and characters. Let's start with the latter: all the characters from the main characters Loretta and Ronny to the supporting and even the ancillary characters are all likable and great to watch. Even when they yell, scream and denigrate one another, you can't help but to be enamored by the characters you are watching. That is helped by the charismatic performances in the film. The best ones are easily Cher as the widow who is reluctantly marrying and Olympia Dukakis as her mother, but also Danny Aiello as the dumb, lovable Johnny and Vincent Gardenia as Loretta's philandering dad are also hilarious and charming characters to follow. It should be said that for a romantic comedy, Moonstruck is much better as a comedy than a romance. Its cute and hilarious scenes and dialogue mask a romantic angle that, honestly, isn't as potent as you'd expect in a good romantic comedy. Then again, the film is so fun and enjoyable that it doesn't matter. Moonstruck is a movie that, no matter when you watch it, still feels as fun and enjoyable as it first came out.

It's a story that captures a single day in the lives of a neighborhood's residents, showcasing their joys, struggles, and the simmering tensions that come to a head. At the heart of the narrative is Sal's Famous Pizzeria, a local institution run by Sal and his sons, Vito and Pino. As the day unfolds, we witness a mosaic of characters—Mookie, the pizza delivery man; Radio Raheem, whose boombox blasts Public Enemy's "Fight the Power"; Buggin' Out, who demands representation on the pizzeria's Wall of Fame; and Da Mayor, the neighborhood's elder statesman.Through a series of interactions, misunderstandings, and confrontations, the heat and the bubbling racial tension reach a boiling point, culminating in a tragic act of violence that forces the community to confront the complexities of race, identity, and justice. "Do the Right Thing" is a raw, unflinching look at the choices we make and the consequences that follow, urging viewers to reflect on what it truly means to "do the right thing."Guests:Andrew CornsHost of the Revisionist Almanac@revalmanac on IG, X, YouTube, TikTok, and LetterboxdPreviously on Gaslight (ep. 210)Sean PhillipsCreator of Math Teacher Movies@mathteachermovies on IG and Letterboxd, @mathteachermov1 on XCo-Host of The Guy at the Movies podcast with Joe and Sean or @guyatthemovies on YouTube.Chapters:00:00 Introductions and Guest Introductions01:47 Getting to Know - Sean Phillips06:27 Cast and Recognition for Do the Right Thing08:55 Relationship(s) with Do the Right Thing12:45 Is This the Most Relevant American Film?21:36 What is Do the Right Thing About?24:33 Recommended Viewing for Spike Lee?26:53 Plot Summary for Do the Right Thing28:17 Did You Know?29:28 First Commercial Break31:53 What's Happening? with Andrew and Sean36:56 Ask Dana Anything38:47 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy58:18 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance01:19:47 The Stanley Rubric -...

Hello! Welcome to another edition of the exclusive audio commentary podcast hosted by me, David Hughes.  For this episode, I'm thrilled to welcome Jen Johans, award-winning writer, film critics, essayist and historian, and host of the excellent Watch With Jen podcast. Now, that has really good guests, but Jen must be short for Jenerous because she always gives her guests more of the floor than she uses herself, so I thought it'd be perfect to invite her to record a solo commentary, and choose any film she wanted, and I'm super excited she chose Norman Jewison's timeless 1987 romantic comedy-drama Moonstruck, starring Cher and Olympia Dukakis – both of whom won Oscars for their performances – Nicolas Cage and Danny Aiello, from an Oscar-winning original screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley. I'm a huge fan of Moonstruck, and I'm really excited to bring you this exclusive audio commentary, which I'm sure you're going to love. Even though, as we all know, "love don't make things nice. It ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess.” Comments? Feedback? Suggestions? Email David *at * Rogue-Commentary *dot* com or send us a tweet. We have lots of exciting episodes in the works, so if you like what you hear – or just the idea – please subscribe, and remember to rate us wherever you hear this podcast – it'll really help us to keep going. Oh, and follow us on Twitter and/or Instagram to stay up-to-date on our forthcoming releases. Thanks for listening! In which the Mister and I check out MOONSTRUCK (1987), which we caught on the TCM app but you can also find on PlutoTv, Roku Channel and to buy/rent on Prime Video.  From an Academy Award winning script from John Patrick Shanley, the film is directed by the legendary Norman Jewison.  The film follows Loretta Castorini (Cher, in an Oscar winning turn) a straightlaced, bookkeeper from Brooklyn who's accepted her boyfriend, Johnny's (Danny Aiello), marriage proposal.  Immediately after, Johnny is Italy bound to see his dying mother but before he boards the plane, he asks Loretta to contact his brother, Ronny (Nicolas Cage) and invite him to the wedding.  The phone call doesn't go as planned so Loretta seeks out Ronny at the bakery he works at.  They leave to talk, she makes him a steak and soon discovers there is a spark between them.  Rounding out the cast is Olympia Dukakis (in her supporting Oscar winning role) as Loretta's mother, Rose; Vincent Gardenia as her father, Cosmo; and Julie Bovasso and Louis Guss as her Aunt Rita and Uncle Ray.  The film is a true snapshot of NY in the 80s and a sweet trip down memory lane.  The strong writing and outstanding performances still hold up and make this a worthwhile investment of your time.  The film clocks in at 1 h 42 m and is rated  PG.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Welcome back to another exciting episode of Not A Bomb. This is the podcast where we go back and reexamine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this week's episode, the guys are joined by Sammy from the GGTMC and Jose from Watch/Skip+ to discuss 1991's action comedy - Hudson Hawk. Starring the legendary Bruce Willis as our titular character, Hudson Hawk leans heavy into the comedy and the works of Leonardo da Vinci. Yeah, this film is pretty bonkers. Audiences and critics didn't “catch the Hawk” on its initial release but the film has become a cult hit. Did our podcast crew enjoy Bruno's vanity project and laugh at all of the silly quips? Or did somebody side with the general audience and find this movie to be a chore to sit through? Download and find out!Timestamps: Intro - (1:03), Box Office Results, Critical Response, and Movie Guide Review - (3:09), Behind the Camera - (8:29), In Front of the Camera - (26:34), Production and Development - (55:50), Commerical Break - (60:03), Hudson Hawk Discussion - (61:53), Is it a Bomb? - (98:42), Listener Feedback - (101:40), and Outro - (124:38)Hudson Hawk is directed by Michael Lehmann and stars Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, Andie MacDowell, Richard E. Spike Lee's third film, released in 1989, presented a day-in-the-life portrait of a neighborhood: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, on the hottest day of the year. Boasting an all-star cast including Lee, Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Richard Edson, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, and Samuel L. Jackson, along with the feature film debuts of Martin Lawrence and Rosie Perez, the film was a hit at Cannes and a critical and commercial success. Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, its release was also marked by controversy over its content and depictions of racism, with some commentators expressing the fear that audiences might riot after seeing it. More than thirty years after its release, the message of the film is starkly relevant.
