Listen as Jessica Hoffmann tells you all about her family law service, helping attorneys and clients to better navigate the divorce and child custody process. We talk about finding happiness in the legal field. It is important to figure out what you love about what you do and finding a job that lines up with your passion.FamilyDocket is a family law client communication tool with the lawyer in mind! Congratulations on taking the next step to putting a plan in place to protect your kids. As a parent with two young children, I know it's a hard process to start but it is so important to have a plan in place, just in case something ever happened to you. When Crista became a mom, she was working as an associate attorney at a law firm. She quickly realized that she didn't want to work "law firm" hours with a new baby. Instead, she wanted to be there for her child. She started my own practice and as a new mom, she realized there wasn't a lot of information on estate planning for parents with minor children. She created her practice with a focus on educating parents on how they can put plans in place to protect their minor children through estate planning and giving parents the peace-of-mind they deserve. This episode is meant to assist you in thinking about some pretty big questions, like making a list of potential guardians and agents you would want to help if an emergency ever happened. It isn't the easiest thing to think about or even do. But without a plan in place if something ever happened, you wouldn't have any input. It would likely be a judge that doesn't know you or your family make important decisions that may not be what you would want. I hope this episode helps you to start the process to put a plan in place and protect your children. If you like this episode please subscribe to the podcast so you automatically get new episodes. AttorneyHealth Coach JAG wifeAt the age of 16, Sarah lost her father to drinking and drugs. Her first reaction to his death was to drink alcohol and eat. I have always had an unhealthy relationship with both food and alcohol. You would think having lost a father to one of those vices, I would have been determined to change. But, I wasn't. Sarah was a confused teenager who didn't know how to deal if I'm being honest. That "mourning" or lack thereof continued for a long time. She sought comfort in the wrong things and the wrong people. However, she was somehow always able to keep her studies and her working life on track. In 2007, she decided to go to law school. She continued on the partying path she had been on and did mostly the bare minimum to get by. She was still figuring things out. The environment was not great for her in terms of learning how to change that either. However, she made it through and did ok. Around graduation, she started dating her now husband. She can honestly say he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. He constantly pushes her to be a better version of herself. When they became serious and got married, she knew it was the best decision she ever made. Since 2013 when they got married, she continued to try to figure things out for herself in terms of health, faith, etc. It wasn't until she had her son that she really saw her purpose. She is meant to be a wife, a parent, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an encourager, a motivator, etc. She is meant to live past her 40s, which is when her dad passed away. Despite figuring this out through having her son and being with her husband, she still did not feel great about herself after Powell was born. She loved to cook and loved to workout, but never could quite get it all together. She tried Pure Barre and ClassPass. She subscribed to Cooking Light and completed cleanses. She felt like she had tried everything. She was desperate to get her body back and feel good about herself again. She kept seeing someone post on Facebook about something called the 21 Day Fix, and she was desperate at the time. So, she decided why not give this a shot? She decided to try 21 Day Fix Extreme and Shakeology. She joined a challenge group to help get her on track. Through the first challenge group she completed, something ignited in her. She became a more positive, energetic person. These terms were rarely used to describe her before. She became a cheerleader (again). She wasn't working on her goals alone because she had a group of people pushing her along. This sparked a passion in her to really help others because she knew how much of a struggle eating right, working out, losing weight, and getting in shape can be. Becoming a wellness coach has held her to a new level of accountability in terms of her workouts and nutrition. Goli Kalkhoran is a lawyer Mom-turned-entrepreneur. That’s a fancy way of saying she quit practicing law, did a lot of soul-searching, tried a bunch of different things to figure out what she wanted to do next, and happened upon an idea she turned into a business. But the most interesting part of that story, the reason behind her podcast and blog Lessons From A Quitter, is the year-long journey it took Goli Kalkhoran to really admit to herself that she wanted to quit being a lawyer and figuring out how to start over.http://www.lessonsfromaquitter.com/If you like this podcast please subscribe to the podcast so you automatically get new episodes.
