Our guests today are Audra Dunleavy, Vice President and Partner of Natural Path Silver Wings. and Dr. Chris Terrell, a Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. When it comes to colloidal silver, the term “parts per million” (PPM) refers to its strength. A higher PPM is your advantage with atomic silver, whereas lower PPM limitations are ionic silver. This blog will accurately clarify the ENTIRE colloidal silver PPM breakdown which include; 1) what PPM means, 2) how it relates to colloidal silver, 3) the two types of colloidal silver, 4) higher PPM and lower PPM difference, 5) small particle size, 6) why PPM matters in colloidal silver, 7) usage guideline and 8) why PPM matters. Understanding PPM: The Role of Parts Per Million in Colloidal Silver When searching PPM, many articles neglect one foremost major factor- the important distinction that there are two types of colloidal silver on the market: atomic and ionic. Understanding PPM related to each of these two specific silver types is paramount because PPM is essential for anyone pursuing colloidal silver for immune support or topical skin applications.* What is PPM? Parts per million is a unit of measurement that expresses the concentration of one substance in a million parts of another. In simpler terms, it's a way to quantify how much of a particular substance is present in a solution. For example, a solution with a concentration of 1 PPM means that there is one part of the solute (in this case, silver) for every million parts of the solvent (purified water). Colloidal Silver: What You Need to Know Colloidal silver, in atomic form, is a natural elemental mineral consisting of tiny silver particles suspended in liquid. It's been used globally for many generations as an effective immune support. Colloidal silver is safe to use as long as it's from a reputable manufacturer that is independent lab certified and made in an FDA registered facility. Colloidal silver can be taken direct orally via dropper or spray bottles because it has virtually no taste. Others prefer mixing it in a favorite beverage. Whichever is your preference, colloidal silver liquid is generally recommended for ages 4 years and older. Silver also has a long history of amazing topical skin usage. There is numerous worldwide literature about a variety of silver supporting skin health. Silver is also used for purification purposes. Two Types of Colloidal Silver- Atomic & Ionic Ionic colloidal silver is electrically processed and has a clear liquid appearance because it has only between 10 PPM to 30 PPM silver which is much weaker and thus requires many more doses leading to “dosing fatigue” and becomes more costly. Ionic formulas typically can NOT increase their PPM strength beyond 10 PPM to 20 PPM because particles would then clump together more quickly due to missing an electron and rendering it unstable and unsafe. Atomic colloidal silver (recommended) is unadulterated and NOT electrically processed. It consists of full silver atoms and has an amber liquid color as nature intended. Due to its stability at higher concentrations, it's safe to dose at higher parts per million (PPM) which gives you strong immune support. If you prefer lower PPM doses, atomic colloidal silver gives you the flexibility to simply take fewer doses which makes it much more economical on your wallet since the bottle will last you longer.

Sheri Walters’ journey to Director of Sports Medicine at Texas A&M University reflects a career defined by innovation, collaboration, and comprehensive integration. Walters discusses the "arms race" in collegiate athletics and how Texas A&M shatters silos through unit alignment and being intentionally present. Drawing from her EXOS experience, she highlights the impact of integrating sports medicine with strength and conditioning. Walters employs research-based cross-body training to maintain strength, prioritizing long-term rehabilitation over limb symmetry index testing. She explains how her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and Certified Performance and Sport Scientist® (CPSS®) credentials enable her to elevate rehabilitation and speak the language of sport performance professionals. Walters underscores the importance of getting student-athletes back to team strength and conditioning as soon as tissues can tolerate it to promote physiological and psychological healing. She also shares how strength and conditioning coaches can optimize return to performance and reduce reinjury risk. Join other professionals in the Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation Specialist Interest Group (SIG) to discover more resources and engage in discussion.Show Notes“The goal is to keep them as strong as possible on the uninvolved side, and then likewise, upper body. I don't want to be rehabbing a lower body injury and then turn around next season having to rehab an upper because we didn't maintain that strength. Those are all things that very early on, the strength coach can take. It helps from a physiological healing standpoint. It also helps from a psychological standpoint to be back with their team and doing a lot of their normal activities. By maintaining my CSCS, by getting my CPSS, it's helped me to be able to speak the same language as those professionals, and then ultimately, get the best outcome for our student athletes.” 8:25“We can make sure the tissue can tolerate the load, and then as soon as possible, integrate it back in. So for us, it's very critical that we're working very early on with the strength and conditioning coach to make that transition.” 17:00“I always encourage students pursuing strength and conditioning coaching careers to do is to get into a training room, connect with members of the sports medicine team and profession. They may do that as athletes before they become a strength coach, but especially for those who maybe don't have a high-level athletic experience, connecting with sports medicine professionals is extremely valuable.” 20:20

This degree allowed him to obtain certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Fitness Appraiser and to work as a Strength and Conditioning coach for Sir Wilfrid University's Men's Basketball team and for Queen's University Women's Varsity Hockey Team. Greg's success in university resulted in being awarded a graduate scholarship (NSERC) to the University of Waterloo to be one of only two Masters students per year studying at the Occupational Biomechanics Laboratory, a world leader in Spine Biomechanics, exercise prescription and athletic performance. As a faculty member at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Greg developed a research program that produced more than 20 publications on exercise biomechanics, golf fitness and the science of manual therapy. He has taught more than 25 graduate students in Spine Biomechanics and Research Instrumentation and supervised more than 50 students and 20 undegraduate research theses. He was subsequently awarded a Researcher of the Year award by the Ontario Chiropractic Association. These days, most of Greg's time with patients is spent one-on-one using exercise, load/stress management, manual therapy techniques and education. Both pain, injury and performance are influenced by a number of factors in an individual's life. Greg's approach addresses the multitude of these contributors and he primarily works with my patients to come up with strategies where they are actively involved in their recovery. It was time to bring back Charlie Weingroff for Episode 169 to talk about some serious stuff. Charlie and Don had a private conversation a few weeks ago on the subject of scientific research in health, wellness and performance, and where it fits in the selection of protocols, exercises and other key ingredients for optimal performance and health. While some practitioners are quick to support their own positions with research papers, or argue against another professional's methods using peer reviewed research as a basis, we discuss the nuances of using research in an intelligent manner. Practical experience, case studies, intuition and research can form a strong foundation of knowledge and skill that can go a long way to bolster the work of a successful practitioner or coach.
