We were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Tameika Meadows, a great BCBA, author of the I Love ABA blog, and advocate for the power of behavior analysis. Tameika was also one of our earliest supporters and it was a real treat when we finally had her join as our guest. In honor of her contributions to the field, we're rebroadcasting that episode and donating all CE fees raised for it from now until June 2023 to Black Applied Behavior Analysts (BABA). Tameika was scheduled to talk at the BABA conference as one of their invited speakers. While a donation is a poor substitute to her presence, we know what is raised will go to promoting behavior analysts in the Black community as a part of the legacy she leaves behind. Though many of us have probably spent much of our careers fretting over how we can help autistic children stop engaging in stereotypic or seemingly ritualistic behavior, have we spent enough time asking whether attending to these unique interests might actually be beneficial? This week we're joined by Tameika Meadows from I Love ABA to flip the script on that old chestnut and see what research tells us about all of the benefits to appreciating a person's preferences, no matter how different they may be. This episode is available for 1.0 LEARNING CEU. All funds for this episode from December 2022-June 2023 will be donated to BABA. Articles discussed this episode: Baker, M.J. (2000). In this special episode of “Race, Health & Happiness” we are talking about — FOOD! To complete the menu I've got two guests. First I speak with registered dietitian Tameika Shaw, who tells us about how she works with members of communities that are experiencing oppression, and helps them find ways to eat healthy authentic food, with a joyful spirit! After that I speak with graduate student Gurneet Dhami, who tells us about the creative resistance that is happening in the field of dietetics. Both of my guests are thriving in a field that has a history of both excluding BIPOC people, and reinforcing the racist notion that European food is somehow healthier or superior to other foods. Despite this, these two women of color are making magic in the margins, and how sweet it is! We even recorded part of this episode in Tameika's kitchen! Sabrina and Tameika join us today to discuss what happens when your agency license is declared invalid by the state and the steps the agency needs to undergo to have a valid license again. They describe their roles and respåonsibilities at ILSA and how the pandemic shifted their perspective regarding office work. They discuss why agencies need to do their Annuals and Corporates Filings, and the challenges agencies face when applying for a license. They explain why some agencies prefer to get licensed themselves and why they don't recommend an in-house approach. They also share their thoughts on Zoom meetings, the coronavirus, and how they managed to stay positive during these trying times. Labor Pains: Dealing with infertility and loss during pregnancy or infancy.
Tameika Thomas lost her twin daughters at 26 weeks and blamed herself for several years. She just keeps herself going at a very fast pace with work and school. She is a woman that puts high expectations on herself, and she said I am the one that expects perfection of myself, and I know that is impossible. When the world was shut down due to the pandemic it forced her to take time to slow down and that is when she began to truly grieve the loss of the twins. It forced her to slow down, it made her feel her feelings and listen to herself. She then finally really started the forgiveness process for herself. Tameika and I talked about several things that she was able to do to help her on her journey of forgiveness. She started a gratitude journal, she poured herself into helping others and took that quiet time that was so necessary for her. Tameika talks about the blame and guilt she felt for many years and where she is on her journey of forgiving herself. Advice: Take time to quiet yourself and feel the feelings you are having. Isn't it funny how we're so good at delivering on everyone else's expectations, but yet we rarely set our own expectations? In this crazy do-everything-culture, it's more important than ever to schedule ourselves too (first?)! If you're ready to take a layover off the crazy train but don't know where to start, listen in to this week's episode as Erin talks to Tameika Isaac Devine, a lawyer, public servant, and work-life integration strategist. Tameika knew she wanted to be a lawyer since she was six, so after graduating she started law school and became a prosecutor for sexual and domestic violence. She ran for a seat on her City Council, and after winning the seat in 2002 she became the first African American ever elected, the first African American female elected, and the youngest person elected. And now she is running for Mayor, and if she wins will be the first female Mayor. Erin asks Tameika how she went from her idea to taking action, and what mindset she was in to be able to take that step. Tameika was prosecuting sexual and domestic violence cases, and they had a very antiquated system. She saw how the system kept letting women and families down. She was raised to not complain without offering a solution, and to get up and run for City Council, and be the person making the changes. Tameika was told that she would be unable to continue working as a prosecutor while she ran for office, so she had to rethink her next career move. The universe had a plan though, as two people she knew from Law School had decided to start their own firm. They asked Tameika to join them. Being an inspirational trailblazer, she was invited to panels to give talks and lead workshops, often discussing how she was able to maintain such a good work-life balance. Her answer? She came to the realization that "work-life balance" doesn't exist. So, she started wondering, how can she share those insights with other people? Which is when she started her business, Possibilities Institute. Erin asks Tameika what her biggest tip for work-life integration is, and one that people won't have heard before. She says to recognize that every person is different, so what works for someone else, might not work for you. She also says not to lean into expectations. If you have to go to your kids play and also go to a meeting for work, be honest with yourself, think about what you can actually get done, then be honest with everyone else to create realistic expectations. Erin then asks what advice Tameika has for those people who are managing their work and personal lives, and finding time to fit everything in, but it's completely draining them, leaving them fatigued by the end of the week. Tameika says they might be missing personal time that's just for them, so make sure to schedule that in. Whether you're the sort of person to write "bubble bath and wine" on your calendar or not, it's important to stay on top of how you are managing yourself too. They move on to discuss what people are struggling with the most amid Covid. Erin wants to know how tameika has helped people shift their mindset and attitudes towards home working. Tameika says to slow down and figure out how to stop yourself from being pushed into a realm where you are over-worked and over-scheduled. Figure out your end goal and how you can accomplish it. Ultimately, the key is to stay productive, not busy. Erin asks Tameika about the challenge of carrying some of these things out, and Tameika explains that challenges are inevitable, but how we approach them determines whether we are successful, not if we actually make it to the end goal. As a final tip, Tameika wants to challenge the listeners to go outside their comfort zome, because when you push out of this zone you start to understand your resilience and your capabilities much more deeply. Though many of us have probably spent much of our careers fretting over how we can help autistic children stop engaging in stereotypic or seemingly ritualistic behavior, have we spent enough time asking whether attending to these unique interests might actually be beneficial? This week we’re joined by Tameika Meadows from I Love ABA to flip the script on that old chestnut and see what research tells us about all of the benefits to appreciating a person’s preferences, no matter how different they may be. Labor Pains: Dealing with infertility and loss during pregnancy or infancy.
Tameika went to the doctor to have a procedure done to find out that she was pregnant. This was devastating and shocking news for a single woman that was about to end the relationship she was in. I was in total denial about the pregnancy so I did not go back to the doctor for several months and when I finally went I was told I was pregnant with twins. WOW I was scheduled for an ultrasound at 26 weeks to find out the gender of the twins. I found out that I was going to have twin girls and that I was completely dilated and was having them that day. I was immediately prepped for an emergency C-section because one of the placentas had already released. I was struggling with even focusing on what was going on. it was like an out of body experience. I woke to overhearing that one of the girls had died. Avery only lived for about 30 minutes. Aubrey the second baby struggled because she was so tiny and only lived 2 days. Even though they only lived such a short time, I am extremely grateful to the nursing staff for shared so many amazing stories about the girls in their very short lives. 7 years after losing Avery and Aubrey I have started a nonprofit. Avery and Aubrey's Way was created to assist families experiencing financial hardship that occurred after the neonatal death of a newborn infant, as well as provide emotional and spiritual support during their time of loss. Tameika's advice: If your pregnancy was not planned like mine, you may feel shame, guilt or embarrassment but do not let it dictate the rest of your life. Everything happens for a reason and turn it into something beautiful. Also allow your loved ones to love on you. Let them help you through the grief that is always with you. For this week's conversation I am joined by Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, Tameika Meadows. Tameika strongly believes that when you help a child succeed, you help a whole family. Tameika currently practices as a freelance consultant, behavior coach, and Autism Specialist for schools, organizations, and adult day programs located in and around Georgia. Tameika shares the power that knowledge, honesty, practicality and accountability have in providing interventions. We also discuss the challenges of parenting during this period. Many parents have been on emotional rollercoasters for months. Tameika reminds us of the importance of making decisions based on the 'now' and not what things 'should be' or what we 'want them to be,' and the role that being willing to adapt and be flexible has in our ability to manage this period. She also reminds us that we cannot pour from an empty cup, and that all parents should take some time to step back, remind themselves that they do not need to be superman or superwoman, and take things one moment at a time. www.yolanderobinson.com/episode19

Define Core Values to Align Successful Behavior and Goals Free Exercise In order to successfully apply the principles and systems to help you experience even greater success, it is vital that you first identify your values, so you can then create behaviors that support your values. When there is conflict or a discrepancy between your values and behavior or goals, success is impossible. Your values are basically the “why” behind your goals. Values, Goals, and Behaviors must all be focused in the same direction for successful goal achievement, and when any one of them is out of alignment with the other, you will find yourself spinning your wheels. Your values will lead you in one direction, while your behavior leads you in a completely different direction, never allowing for your energies to complement each other. Download and complete my Values Clarification exercise to help you align your goals and behavior with your values, so that everything is heading in the same direction. When goals and behavior are aligned with core values, you have the winning formula for success. To download my complimentary 6-page Values Clarification Exercise to help get you started on defining and getting clarity on your core values, go to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/values-clarification/. There’s no denying that we are experiencing something that none of us have ever gone through. Things are changing at breakneck speeds, and it seems like the situation evolves every few hours. It can be difficult to navigate through the whirlwind, especially if you are running a business or leading a team. How do you stay strong for them and make sure they’re well taken care of while still paying attention to your own needs. Today, on the Instant Impact podcast with Elyse Archer, Elyse is sitting down with Tameika Devine, an expert at leading through uncertainty. Tameika is an elected official, attorney, entrepreneur, mother, and wife. Right now, she’s leading not only her company and family but her entire community. Tameika starts us off by sharing some of the biggest mistakes she sees leaders making as they begin to lead through change. For her, it’s essential that you are honest about how much is unknown. Many leaders will feel as though they need ever answer--this isn’t the case! The key is being empathetic of every individual’s situation. Tameika offers us her biggest tips for leaders right now: 1. Communicate as much as possible to everyone--your team, clients, community, and family. We’re in this together. And 2. Be accessible and stay connected! So many people are feeling disconnected from those closest to them. Share your experiences with your team! Tameika keeps her mindset strong amidst everything we’re hearing by staying true to her faith. On top of that, she makes time to be intentional with everything that she does. Being present in the moment is essential! Above everything else, Tameika is a mother. Her advice for parents who are trying to teach, parent, and entertain children is to give yourself grace. It’s so easy to be hard on yourself, but we are all doing our best! Additionally, keeping to a schedule prevents you from getting too lax with your tasks. Having three things that you need to accomplish every day reminds you that you are still doing the work! Finally, Tameika shares with us some of the blessings she sees coming out of this situation--tune in, there are so many! LINKS Adevinelife.com @tameikadevine

Ashley Franklin (@DifferentAshley) shares NOT QUITE SNOW WHITE. In this debut picture book readers meet Tameika, a theater-loving, stage-starring girl. She’s so excited for her school’s production of Snow White that she signs up for both audition dates. But after Tameika overhears classmates criticising that she’s too tall and too chubby and to black for the part, Tameika is crushed. There’s more to the story, of course, but you’ll need to listen for that. Ashley brings up our responsibility, no matter the age, to not make people feel hurt. And in our conversation she talks about the need to dismantle the idea of complete perfection as we engage young people. In today's episode of The New Stack Makers, TC Currie is joined by Tameika Reed, whose day gig is as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at EXPANSIA, a company providing full spectrum services for IT migration and integration. After 16 years in infrastructure, she got tired of not seeing anyone like her. So three years ago she decided to be the change she wanted to see in the world, and founded Women In Linux. This group provides free on-line training in the wide variety of ways in which Linux is used, along with job boards and career advice. Within 30 minutes of the decision to found Women in Linux, Reed's friend had her set up with an LLC, started paperwork to become a non-profit, and set up the Women in Linux Meetup page. The goal of the group is to introduce infrastructure newbies to Linux and other tech useful for those looking at infrastructure careers. Most of her talks are very technical. “We talk about getting women and under-represented minorities into tech,” Reed said, “but those conversations revolve around teaching women to code. They're missing out on a huge market with cloud, security in general, embedded Linux.” Along the way she started dispensing career advice during her meetups and manages a job board.

Today's conversation with our first guest, Tameika Cheek, a local Atlanta therapist. In honor of Mental Health Month, we recognize that many people, creatives being a big part of this number, go through a lot of emotional and mental break downs. The creative industry itself is a beast to maintain. We welcomed Tameika in to speak about therapy and the myths around it. Disclaimer: We will always encourage you to research for better understanding on any topic. On this note, we highly encourage you to speak to a professional when it comes to the decision to undergo or to not go to therapy, because TCF and The Lightning Rod are not licensed professionals in this industry. Today in the guest chair I have online coach and personal trainer Tameika G. Tameika’s story is far from ordinary. Over the course of ten years, she completely flipped her lifestyle and her long term career path as a result. Years ago, she was overweight, living in her home country of Canada and just generally unhappy. But she decided she didn’t want her food addiction and obesity to be what defined her story and her end game. So she made drastic life changes to rewrite her own story. She lost 90 lbs and has kept it off for 10 years. Since losing 90 pounds, she has devoted her time to helping others achieve the same happiness she's found on this journey. As a Certified Personal Trainer, she has helped over 400 clients, both in person and online, lose a cumulative total of 3000+ pounds. And she did this all while side hustling. After several years side hustling, working in corporate and being a fitness professional on the side, she was finally able to build a life she no longer needs a vacation from. On today’s episode, Tameika gets into: Why heartbreak led her to make a radical life and professional change What made her choose Asia How she quit her job and found a way to move to another country How she kept costs low to work her “get out of a debt plan” The tipping point that made her quit her job How she focuses on her purpose and her passion How she paid her rent in full for the year so she can focus on her purpose and passion Listen on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher and Google Play Links mentioned on this episode TameikaG.com The Whole Experience retreat Tony Robbins Money Master the Game Tony Robbins Unshakeable book Gary Vee podcast Tameika’s detailed blog post on building a life she doesn’t need a vacation from Click here to subscribe via RSS feed (non-iTunes feed): http://sidehustlepro.libsyn.com/rss Announcements Side Hustle Pro is now over 4800 members strong. Graham talks down-the-line with leadership mentor, and South Carolina city councillor Tameika Isaac Devine. They discuss her upbringing, how her father's history, growing up in the segregated south encouraged her advocacy, leading through turbulence, and juggling her role on the city council with her full-time job as an attorney in a law firm she founded in 2001. In 2002, at the age of 29, Tameika became the first African American woman to serve on the city council. She still serves on the city council, and has overseen dramatic weather events, civil action (recently in the form of the removal of the confederate flag), and the church shooting that made international headlines. During these events, Tameika has not simply presided over these events, but actively worked within her community to help recover from, or otherwise make sense of them. Graham and Tameika also discuss her take on work-life integration, including defining and managing goals, measuring success, avoiding burnout and saying “no”.
