In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Jen Winkler—wife, homeschooling mom, and functional health and hormone coach—for a deeply honest and hope-filled conversation about what it really looks like to heal the female body. After years of doing everything “right,” Jen still found herself struggling with epilepsy, PCOS, insulin resistance, and anxiety. Like so many women, she followed the conventional advice—yet her symptoms persisted. Instead of settling, she went deeper. Through studying nutrition, hormones, and metabolic health, Jen began to shift her approachfrom controlling and restricting her body to actually supporting it. That shift changed everything. Under medical supervision, Jen was able to reverse many of her symptoms and even reduce her epilepsy medication. But her story doesn't stop there. One of the most powerful parts of her journey has been learning how to reintroduce foods she once feared, especially carbohydrates and witnessing the transformation in her gut health, metabolism, and overall hormonal balance. Through before-and-after gut testing, she saw firsthand how the body responds when it's nourished instead of deprived. Now, as a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Functional Blood Chemistry Specialist, Jen helps women step away from rigid diet rules, like extreme keto or carnivore and move toward a more balanced, whole-food approach that supports long-term healing. This episode challenges the idea that restriction equals health, and instead invites women into a more sustainable, personalized way of living. We also address a major gap in women's healthcare: the over-reliance on hormonal birth control as a first-line solution. Jen shares why she believes most hormonal imbalances can be addressed at the root without defaulting to suppression, and how Natural Family Planning offers women a real, effective alternative for avoiding pregnancy. In this episode, we cover: Jen's journey through epilepsy, PCOS, insulin resistance, and anxiety Why “doing everything right” still wasn't enough—and what changed The connection between metabolism, hormones, and overall health Transitioning out of restrictive diets like keto and carnivore Why reintroducing carbohydrates can support thyroid, gut, and hormonal health What gut testing can reveal, and how her results dramatically improved How symptoms act as signals, not problems to silence Supporting insulin resistance and PCOS through a root-cause approach Jen also shares her work helping women navigate complex hormonal challenges, including insulin resistance, PCOS, and metabolic dysfunction and you can read more by checking out Natural Womanhoods article on this topic here: https://naturalwomanhood.org/intermittent-fasting-for-pcos/ This conversation is for the woman who feels stuck… Who has tried the diets, followed the rules, and still isn't seeing results. High-masking ND grind burning you out? In this episode of Adulting with Autism, host April tackles sustainable success for neurodivergent high-achievers with Garrett Wood, National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach/clinical hypnotherapist/executive functioning specialist and founder of Gnosis Therapy. With 18+ years helping masking professionals (autism/ADHD), Garrett's A³ Framework (Assess, Accommodate, Align) bridges nervous-system needs/environment demands—focusing on sensory intelligence/bio-budgets/emotional regulation/core beliefs/attachment/values/executive functioning to end boom-bust cycles. Key insights: High-masking exhaustion: Socialization gaps (hiding "not okay" parts); safe environments reduce friction—authentic self without danger. Sensory intelligence: Preferences/thresholds (too much/little stimulation); interoception (body cues like hunger/anxiety); accommodations (headphones/compression/breaks/sensory backpack). Bio-budgets/time under tension: ND shifts (16-18 hrs masking vs. NT 4-5 hrs); small reps/recovery (car breaks/garden/dust books) prevent overload. Autistic vs. NT burnout: Intensity/scale difference (ND extreme effort); recovery longer (6-7 months vs. quick)—focus well-being (not grit/willpower myth). Hypnotherapy: Self-hypnosis (daydream state for mindset/social/sleep); practice positive experiences (e.g., anxiety scenarios going well). A³ for control: Assess needs (triggers/supports), Accommodate (e.g., oils/masks), Align (values as guardrails); early overload signs (tension/shutdown). Workplace/young adults: Advocate (ROI from inclusion); trial/error (hot/cold days); natural responses (eat/move/sleep) over deadlines. For autistic/ADHD young adults/entrepreneurs in masking fatigue, Garrett's vibe: "Sustainable success through well-being—not expense." Free resources at gnosistherapy.com. Hey Team! Today I'm joined by Alex Bellitter, Senior Manager of Coaching at Shimmer, an ADHD coaching platform that's guided over 75,000 sessions. If this sounds a bit familiar, I also did an interview with Shimmer's CEO, Chris Wang, last year - but of course in this episode, we're covering a lot more and while Shimmer is mentioned it certainly isn't the focus of what we're talking about here. But back to who we're talking with today. Alex holds a Master's in Psychology and is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She's passionate about building a neuroinclusive approach to coaching and helping people redefine what success looks like for their unique brains. We get into what burnout really looks like for ADHD brains and how the “grind it out” mindset backfires every time. Alex shares how resilience isn't about powering through and we also unpack the ideas of capacity, how we burn through future energy, and why rest, play, and flexibility are actually key parts of productivity. Plus, we get into ADHD inertia, smart scaffolding, and that tricky process of rediscovering your strengths when your brain insists you don't have any. If you're struggling with OCD or unrelenting intrusive thoughts, NOCD can help. But leaving unscheduled blocks gives us breathing room and time for the unexpected. This means it's important that we're making sure keep at least some white space on our calendars. We can fall into the trap of treating rest like a reward for finishing everything, but rest is part of the system that keeps us going. Taking time to rest isn't laziness; it's maintenance that we sorely need. External structure, such as reminders, alarms, notes, and accountability partners, can often help ADHD brains thrive, but a lot of us carry shame around using these supports. We're not “cheating” the system by building one that works for us. These scaffoldings allow us to grow stronger over time without collapsing under pressure by giving us the support we need.

In this insightful episode of the Health and Wellness Coach Journal Podcast, Dr. Jessica Singh sits down with Aimee Carlson a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach, licensed massage therapist, Chopra-certified meditation teacher, Duke-trained coach, and co-founder of Mountain Lotus Wellbeing. Through her coaching practice, Aimee helps women cultivate balance, vitality, and alignment. Aimee's path was shaped by both personal and professional turning points. Although she had long been interested in massage therapy, early career priorities and the demands of being a young mother led her toward the corporate world. Years later, career burnout, shifting values, and a back injury prompted her to reconsider her direction. Recognizing massage therapy as a powerful tool for healing rather than just an occasional luxury, she left her corporate role and completed massage school. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her hands-on practice, she felt called to expand her work through coaching and transition careers. Together, Dr. Singh and Aimee explore the synergies between coaching and massage therapy, including shared ethical foundations, the role of presence and intuition, and the research-supported benefits of massage. They also talk about the journey of health and wellness professionals seeking to integrate multiple modalities into a sustainable, values-driven practice. Aimee's journey is a powerful reminder that healing is not linear, and that having knowledge of multiple holistic health modalities can offer clients a deeper, more lasting transformation. Her heart-led approach offers valuable insight for anyone building a practice rooted in compassion and purpose.
