What do you do when you're over 50, comfortable in your career, and suddenly the world turns upside down? Meet Stacy Maly-Rodgers, who spent 20+ years in nonprofit management in St. Louis until COVID gave her the push she needed to tackle her bucket list - and on that list was becoming a pet groomer. Now she's found her calling as the go-to groomer for the dogs others won't touch at Three Tails Parlor and Pantry. In this episode, we are diving into midlife career pivots, working with difficult and anxious dogs, and how sometimes life's biggest disruptions lead to our most fulfilling chapters. You'll hear about:  ✅ Starting over at 50+ - why age can be your greatest asset  ✅ Fear Free certification and less restraint approach  ✅ Reading dog energy and adapting routines - doing what the dog allows, not forcing a checklist!  ✅ Communicating wins to pet parents and how that has changed everything Whether you're considering a midlife career change or looking to improve your approach with challenging dogs, Stacy proves that it's never too late to find your true calling - and that sometimes the most rewarding work requires patience, experience, and the willingness to do things differently. ABOUT STACY MALY-RODGERSLead Groomer & Services Manager at Three Tails Parlor and Pantry Stacy Maly-Rodgers discovered her true calling at age 50+ when she made the bold decision to leave her 20+ year career in nonprofit management and pursue pet grooming - something that had been on her bucket list for years. After COVID gave her the reflection time she needed, she started as a bather at PetSmart and worked her way through their academy program to become a certified groomer. Now serving as Lead Groomer and Services Manager at Three Tails Parlor and Pantry in Collinsville, Illinois, Stacy has found her specialty working with difficult and anxious dogs that other groomers struggle to handle. Her Fear Free certification and patient, low-restraint approach has transformed the grooming experience for dogs who previously required heavy sedation or couldn't be groomed at all. With four dogs at home and a lifelong love of animals, Stacy combines her management experience from her nonprofit career with her natural patience and intuitive understanding of canine behavior. Her approach focuses on building trust with both the dogs and their pet parents, celebrating small wins and progress rather than dwelling on challenges. Stacy's story proves that career changes at any age are possible, and that sometimes life's biggest disruptions lead to our most fulfilling chapters. She brings a unique perspective to the grooming industry, showing that maturity, patience, and life experience can be tremendous assets in working with animals. Transcript Show Notes

Often when my clients hear about a friend/colleague who has made a change to their career, they say "I wish I could be as brave as X". In today's episode of The Career Confidence Podcast, I am talking about:The myth that those who successfully change careers are inherently braver than others is completely misleading. Career changes often stem from a tipping point where individuals can no longer tolerate their current situation. Staying in a job that doesn't fulfil you requires its own form of courage, as it can be emotionally exhausting and draining. Taking small, manageable steps towards a career change is more effective than waiting for a moment of exceptional bravery. Recognising and utilising personal strengths and resources can facilitate a successful transition, making it more accessible than you might think. Stephen Weisberg is a Detroit-based tax attorney who helps individuals and business owners resolve IRS controversies and tax-debt issues. In this episode, he shares how the 2008 recession launched him from corporate bankruptcy work into tax law, why most people wait too long to seek help, and what every lawyer (and taxpayer) should know before they get that letter from the IRS.What You Can Do With a Law DegreeStephen's journey proves that a law degree is both a credential and a toolkit. His early work in bankruptcy law introduced him to financial systems and creditor negotiations, while his tax practice taught him how to translate that technical knowledge into advocacy for everyday people. Tax controversy work isn't glamorous, but it's vital—and it's year-round.“People think I'm busiest during tax season, but that's when the IRS is focused on filing. My work happens the rest of the year," shares Stephen Weisberg on Episode 217 of You Are a Lawyer. He's built a steady stream of clients through LinkedIn networking, attorney referrals, and partnerships with CPAs, CFOs, and financial planners. The relationships he's developed prove that collaboration, not competition, sustains a modern law practice. Most of his cases are handled remotely by phone or Zoom, reflecting how legal work has evolved since the pandemic.Did you know that children as young as 10 can be prosecuted as adults in Pennsylvania? You Are A Lawyer has partnered with YSRP, the Youth Sentencing and Re-Entry Project, to bring awareness to their fight to keep young people out of adult prisons and to advocate for youth lifers. Visit YSRP.org to support this cause. Many MBA applicants see business school as a chance to pivot—to shift industries, roles, or even entire careers. But how realistic is your pivot story, and how can you make it resonate with admissions committees and recruiters? In this episode of Inside the GMAT, GMAC Zach is joined by Pamela Jaffe and Laura Nelson, founders of MBA Pathfinders, who have over 30 years of combined experience guiding applicants through successful career transitions. Together, they break down the realities of the modern job market, why the MBA remains a powerful bridge for change, and how to craft an application that's authentic, credible, and ready for the career you want. If you're planning to use business school as a launchpad for change, this conversation will help you map your bridge from where you are to where you want to be. About MBA Pathfinders: https://www.mbapathfinders.com Pamela Jaffe has helped hundreds of applicants achieve entry into the top U.S. and European business schools. Pamela began her MBA consulting career in 2010 as a part-time consultant at mbaMission while concurrently working full-time as an internal strategist for companies including IBM, MetLife, Weight Watchers, Pfizer, and Dow Jones. She found her passion as a coach and an advisor; in 2019, she left corporate America to launch The Jaffe Advantage. Pamela leverages her MBA admissions consulting experience with her global business knowledge to advise her clients in the pursuit of their ideal MBA educational experience. She has lived and worked in both Paris and Singapore, focusing on the Asian, Middle Eastern and European markets. Pamela currently resides in New York City, but continues to travel extensively for work and fun. She holds a BA from Smith College and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Laura Nelson has served as a Senior Consultant with mbaMission, Stacy Blackman Consulting, and as the founder of LE Nelson Consulting to help hundreds of candidates earn admissions to top MBA programs. Laura's industry experience includes entertainment, media & publishing, and tech, with established companies and startup organizations. Most recently, she served as VP of Marketing with a SaaS startup. Laura's non-traditional career path and MBA admissions consulting experience enables her to help clients from less traditional backgrounds gain credibility with top programs, while helping those with traditional career paths stand out. Laura lived and worked in California for a decade prior to relocating to Colorado. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and earned an MBA from University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Takeaways: Many MBA applicants seek to pivot their careers through business school. The MBA application process is crucial for defining career goals. Common pivots include banking, consulting, tech, and entrepreneurship. Misconceptions exist about the ease of career changes with an MBA. Brynn Putnam is the founder of innovative tech companies Mirror and Board. Before entering the tech space, she spent her first life as a professional ballerina. In between performing with big productions and studying at Harvard University, she taught fitness classes on the side to make ends meet. Her side hustle became her full-time one after college when she started her own fitness boutique in New York. Putnam's pivot into the fitness space would then lead her to tech with her invention of Mirror, a high-tech piece of equipment that could seamlessly bring personalized fitness classes directly into your home. When she launched Mirror in 2019, it was a huge hit—especially during the pandemic when folks were confined to their homes during lockdown. Her company saw so much success that she soon sold it to Lululemon in a deal valued at $500 million. Now, after establishing herself as a tech pioneer, Putnam is onto her next venture in the space—this time with Board, an innovative, first-of-its-kind product that blends the magic of video games with the feel of board games. It also just launched at TechCrunch Disrupt today.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What if midlife wasn't a crisis but a calling? When entrepreneur Janet Lewis hit that inevitable midlife “what now” moment, she didn't retreat or play it safe. She reinvented herself. After decades in e-commerce and corporate consulting, she traded the hustle for human connection and built a thriving network that's redefining how women in business support each other. In this episode, Janet joins me to talk about what it really takes to pivot in midlife and build something meaningful. We dig into the messy middle between who you were and who you want to become and what it takes to make that leap without losing your mind, your money, or your confidence. Together we explore: • How to recognize when it's time for a change and what to do about it • The truth about midlife fear, reinvention, and finding purpose after forty • Why women need to stop discounting their worth and start charging like grown-ass professionals • How to build a network that is based on collaboration, not competition • The importance of boundaries, community, and showing up even when you don't feel ready Janet's story is proof that midlife isn't the end of opportunity. It's the sweet spot where wisdom, experience, and courage finally meet. Her pivot from running an online business to creating a thriving women's community shows that when you lead with purpose and connection, everything else follows. So if you've ever looked around your life and thought, “Is this it?” consider this your sign. Reinvention doesn't require starting over. It just asks that you finally start showing up as yourself. Jenee Naylor is the personality behind the beloved luxury fashion blog HighLowLuxxe and the founder of 12PM Studios. Before she became a full-time content creator, she held leadership roles at Target. She stayed at the chain for eight years as a general manager and store director, building up her people management skills, with the goal of one day becoming CEO. But she also found joy in running HighLowLuxxe on the side, posting fashion content on her days off and interacting with her growing audience. After feeling like her growth had been stunted at her day job, Naylor left Target to run her blog full-time. Her continued authenticity and dedication to her platform have made her a fashion authority and a dream partner for brands. She even had a full-circle moment being invited back to Target—only this time, she was launching her own fashion line. Gregg Renfrew Returns! The Founder of Beautycounter and Counter Is Back

In 2013, Gregg Renfrew founded Beautycounter—the beauty brand that pioneered what we know today as the clean beauty movement. The brand gained a well-respected reputation for its commitment to using safe ingredients in its products and for refusing to include any formulas that contained questionable or harmful chemicals. Renfrew's commitment to customer health and her advocacy for cosmetic regulation set her apart from her competitors at a time when clean beauty was just an idea, not an entire industry. She last joined us in 2019, before the company's sale to a private equity firm in a deal that valued the brand at $1 billion. Since then, she's had to make several pivots—from being asked to step down as CEO to leaving her own company to watching it go into foreclosure. Her latest pivot has involved starting a new company with the same commitment to clean beauty called Counter, and she's back to tell us all about the new venture.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
