We had a great interview with musical couple Dave Graney and Clare Moore. They've been playing in bands together since 1978 and they moved to St Kilda shortly after they met, and loved how everything they needed was close by, such as places to rehearse and play. We hear about the buildings they lived in and how they connected with other St Kilda musicians when they lived in London later on. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

No jazz cigarettes for these two. Dave Graney & Clare Moore are an exemplary couple. Two of Australias most profound/extraordinary musicians & performers that have travelled and traversed many bands and many lands. The Moodists, the White Buffaloes, the Coral Snakes & the Dave Graney show are just a few of the incantations you will at least find Dave appearing in. Today, going under the title of The Lurid Yellow Mist inspired directly from the Jack Arnold film “The Incredible Shrinking Man” Dave & Clare form an unstoppable duo that takes music and its lyricism and arrangements to the levels thought unachievable. Like Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood & Roy Orbison with the satirical sting of possibly Kim Fowley at his best moments, they make pop music sound like an opera. There love for each other is evident in their creativity, and you will find them at some of the most obscure locations this country can offer to perform. Literally standing head and shoulders above the rest and erring on the side of humility, they remain the perfect example of magical creativity can be. Always supportive of the underdog and we guess that is why they have ended up on the Naked World podcast. Having performed with some of the greatest names in the musical arena internationally as well as local, they still find time for Jay Katz & Miss Death. Dave is not a just a raconteur, performer and screen star but also an incredibly incisive author, who has bared his soul in print. Their humour and generosity is evident in all they do, and with over 40 albums between the two of them in the bag, their output is relentless We hope you enjoy this candid casual conversation as much as we did and possibly pick up a few tips on how to survive a pandemic with masterful ease. Even though their retro tv viewing is questionable, their hearts are not. A big warm thank you to Dave & Clare for your constant inspiration and laughs Much Love Katz & Death

Dave Graney’s creative longevity has been sustained by his need for re-invention but also by knowing when to borrow ideas, phrases or melodic licks from others to fashion into something of his own. Caz Tran sat down with Dave Graney to hear about the influence of blues and groove, hip hop acts like Public Enemy and Schoolly D, Radio Birdman and The Pop Group and many more. However, his song choice by New York’s Television, is almost too perfect to touch.

VulgarGrad: VulgarGrad bring you the old songs of the Russian thieves, along with punk classics of the Perestroika era. The band arose in Melbourne in late 2004 out of a collaboration between some of Australia’s best musicians in underground ethnic styles and they combine elements to create their own inimitable sound, producing something that transcends the language barrier by aiming straight for your convict heritage and your dancing feet. Since that time, they have caused a sensation on Australia’s live music and festival scene, proving that what Australian audiences really seem to need is a wild night of old-fashioned Russian criminality. After all, if Russia and Australia have anything in common, it’s convicts. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 10th of July 2016. Dave Graney And The Coral Snakes: Dave Graney 'n' the Coral Snakes were THE stand alone act in Australia during the 90s. Nobody stood near them. They cut through with wit, flash and weirdness and flew their freak flag for four albums while Dave Graney used street slang and literate word bombs to fully state his case. For the first time since 1997, ARIA Award winning artist Dave Graney ‘n’ the Coral Snakes reformed last year to perform their much acclaimed album “Night of the Wolverine” (1993) as well as many other classics from their soft and sexy songbook featuring the original gangsters who made NIGHT OF THE WOLVERINE - Dave Graney on vocals with Clare Moore on drums, Rod Hayward on guitar and Robin Casinader on piano. The shows sold out across the country proving Dave Graney is still the "King of Pop". With Dave Graney & Clare Moore being tributed as "Living Legends" last year as part of Leaps & Bounds Festival and a documentary in the works, the band have decided to reform once more as part of this year's Leaps & Bounds Festival due to popular demand. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 6th of July 2016.
