Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast

What can one say about Rogue One that hasn't already been said. Releasing almost a year after The Force Awakens, anticipation was high for the franchise's first theatrical spinoff attempt. Nowadays I can't remember if going into the theater, everyone knew the story would be about how the rebels managed to steal the plans for the Death Star. I seem to remember the plot to the DOOM clone Dark Forces involved kidnapping the character General Nadine (who would be seen on screen for the first time in a terrible fake beard in Return of the Jedi). I'm most likely wrong but, I vaguely remember that the reason Kyle Katarn kidnaps Nadine is because he's the one Imperial who defects and helps the fledgling alliance steal the plans in the first place. Kyle Katarn is also the first character in the Star Wars Universe to utilize the now legendary Bryar Pistol that Cassian Andor also carries as his sidearm. The impetus for the film originates in a throw away line in A New Hope. We all know Leia hides the plans for the Death Star in R2-D2 but, we never learn how she came to acquire them until now. We learn the weakness in the Death Star was a design flaw engineered by it's captive creator Galen Erso portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen. Excellent performance by an excellent actor who at this point in his career, has portrayed more villains than heroes. Here he does a great job and with the death of wife Lyra, his character has all the motivation he needs to plot his revenge over the twenty plus years of construction of the deadliest weapon every conceived. I think by far everyone's favorite character ending up being K-2SO portrayed by Alan Tudyk. Even though he's portraying a droid, there was more humanity in the lines delivered by Tudyk's motion capped performance than the rest of cast combined. Of course it was also really cool to see Darth Vader in a movie other than the the original trilogy. James Earl Jones does a great job with his limited lines. Director Krennic portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn also does a fantastic job portraying an evil character. I think it was Chris Stuckmann who really loved how Mendelsohn chewed the scenery and went FULL EVIL VILLAIN in the scenes he was in. Well done to the casting director that hired him. My favorite scene was of course the naval battle at the end. Especially when Admiral Raddus notices the disabled Star Destroyer and uses Hammerhead Corvette to ram it which then turn it into a giant needle to pierce through the planetary shield protecting Scarif. Awesome sequence! I loved every second of it. Thank you for listening to this Special Edition of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. We had another Oscar contender on this week, folks! That's right, How The Grinch Stole Christmas actually won for Best Makeup! Hardly surprising considering this is probably the closest you could ever get to animation with practical effects. But is the movie any good? That's what we set out to decide in the latest episode of BMP. Because as we all now know, just because Jim Carrey jumps around looking green and weird doesn't always mean the content is good. That's right, The Mask is overrated in my generation. I said it. We didn't know better back then. I won't spoil this review in the description, but if it helps entice you to listen, I can tell you that I make a case that this is top 3 Ron Howard films. I quickly backtrack to top 5, but I still think the argument is relatively compelling.   Featuring Special Guest Star Gabe Armentano!   IG: @thinkgabethink   --   IG: @BadMoviesPodcast Twitter: @BadMoviesCast SoundPollination.com

Season 2, Episode 27: This one is a little disorganized and a little personal. I am mostly thinking through things in the movement. This discussion/unfolding of thought comes in response to the films Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) and Scream (1996). Btw for those curious, according to @jstoobs, the closest teen horror film to representing millennials is Jennifer's Body. Read more about that by checking out the link to the website down below. Three cool reviews/analyses that I reference (in no particular order): 1. compares both films, describes them as generation-defining and talks about the fear of lack of apathy vs the fear of lack of empathy - @jstoobs (on TikTok) 2. clarifies how the BBB film is actually a satirical whodunit that critiques and welcomes Gen Z - "Bodies Bodies Bodies - Movie Review" by Chris Stuckmann (on Youtube) 3. discusses how the film is clever in portraying its themes and how the plot twist helps cement those themes - " Bodies Bodies Bodies is Quietly Genius I Explained " by Karsten Runquist Twitter: @YsaPlatform Link to website: https://zukiswamhlongo00.wixsite.com/ysaplatform

001: A Silent Voice vol. 1 A suicidal schoolboy seeks forgiveness from the deaf girl he bullied. Skip synopsis to the mash and potatos @ 10.24 Theme Music: 'Electro Hype' by Liam Bradbury Podcast created by Jim Fitton and Steven Gorton   Published by Kodansha. The poignant ‘A Silent Voice’ has been adapted into an animated movie in 2016 and is currently available on Netflix as of 2019.  Its author, Yoshitoki Oima has been nominated for awards, including the 2016 Eisner Award and the 19th Tezuka Award. https://natalie.mu/comic/news/139236 The movie itself has received critical success; it has achieved a 94% fresh approval on the Rotten Tomatoes website. You can watch Chris Stuckmann’s review of it on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnm3Q-b6Xyw It’s one of few manga that includes a deaf/hard of hearing character with characters using sign language. Because of this we hope, once funding is adequate, to get our podcasts transcribed in the future. So please subscribe and support the podcast if you wish to make that a reality. The Manga is available on Comixology. https://www.comixology.com/A-Silent-Voice-Vol-1/digital-comic/271628 The story is about a young schoolboy, Shoya, who experiences guilt after he torments a deaf schoolgirl, Shoko Nishimiya. His first taste of becoming a lonely pariah causes him to stress about the future and now he seeks forgiveness from the same girl he tormented. Thematically, the manga tackles the subjects of alienation, miscommunication and bullying. Why do people bully? And more importantly what are the consequences of being bullied? James believes it’s a repulsion to a desperation, an overwhelming need to seek companionship and approval that we tend to admonish. Other times it a hierarchy, an exercise of dominance. Steven believes it can stem from fear. We tend to bully those who we do not understand, and we fear what we don’t understand. James also talks about what it means to be both a twin and to also be bullied. We’ll be continuing to read and talk about all 7 of the volumes in the following weeks. For those who don’t understand the “Hoichi the earless” reference. (The nickname given to Shoko Nishimiya) Here’s a video that better explains it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDX6urz-h08 Also, hair loss has been linked to stress, don’t be like Shoya, take it easy and unwind, at least once a day. Border (Swedish: Gräns) is a 2018 Swedish fantasy film directed by Ali Abbasi with a screenplay by Abbasi, Isabella Eklöf and John Ajvide Lindqvist based on the short story of the same name by Ajvide Lindqvist from his anthology Let the Old Dreams Die. It won the Un Certain Regard award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, and was selected as the Swedish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards but was not nominated. However, it was nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. You know what we love about "Roger Ebert", "Chris Stuckmann", "Jeremy Jahns", "Gene Siskel" and others like "New Rockstars" and "Screen Crush"? They love movies, everything about movies. Creating videos and "podcasts" to tell us what we should be seeing, what we should be looking for, and combing through "TV and Film" for all the "Easter Eggs" that they can find. Films and tv shows like "Star Wars", both the "Original Star Wars Trilogy" and the "Prequel Trilogy", "Star Trek TOS", "Star Trek TNG", "The Terminator", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and all the other "Indiana Jones" movies, the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" like "Iron Man", "The Hulk", "The Avengers", bringing "Spiderman" back to the fold and introducing us to the "WandaVision" mini-series. The "DC Universe", including all the "Batman" movies, "Batman The Animated Series", "Superman The Animated Series", "Justice League", as well as the newer movies like "Batman V Superman", even though it wasn't great. They also love the animated movies that have become super popular since "Toy Story" debuted. Each one bigger than the last one, like "Cars", "The Incredibles", "Coco", "Finding Nemo", "Monsters, Inc", and "Soul". But, that's not all, they introduce us to movies made by popular directors that we may not even know exist. Directors like "James Cameron", "George Lucas", "Steven Spielberg", "Martin Scorcese", "Walter Hill", "George Miller", "Robert Altman", "George A Romero", "Francis Ford Coppola", "Tobe Hooper", "Ryan Coogler", "Tim Miller", "Colin Trevorrow", "JJ Abrams" and others. Their vast knowledge of films, techniques, special effects, animation and script writing helps to round out their "movie reviews" and entertain millions of people each month.
