As a teenager, Jason Dufour's musical purchases were informed not by the name on the front cover or the track listing on the back; instead, he looked to the liner notes. “I would walk into HMV and I knew the guys there,” he begins to recall. “I'd say, ‘I think this one dude worked on this CD, can I open it? I just want to see!' If I opened it and didn't see the name, I'm like, ‘I don't want to buy this!'” Two decades later, Jason Dufour is the name in the liner notes, wherever you may be reading them. A graduate of London's Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART), Dufour has gone on to have a hand in multiple Juno Award-winning and nominated records across a slew of genres, and is one of the Canada's most in-demand and well-rounded engineers today. His résumé is dotted with marquee names, including Lights, Three Days Grace, Tokyo Police Club, Donovan Woods, Protest the Hero, and The Tea Party, and is punctuated by a Juno victory of his own as 2017's Recording Engineer of the Year for his mixing work on July Talk's acclaimed LP Touch. Brock McGinnis, CTS is the vice president of sales and operations at Mississauga, ON's Nationwide Audio Visual. McGinnis is well known in the audiovisual industry for his 20-year tenure leading the highly regarded integration division of Westbury National. A frequent contributor to AV conferences, publications, podcasts and social media, he has served on the Board of the Music Industries Association of Canada as well as InfoComm and AVIXA committees and councils in the U.S. In 2017 McGinnis became the first Canadian inducted into the System Contractor's Hall of Fame. Join host Andrew Leyenhorst and Doug McClement, audio engineer, founder and operator of Live Wire Remote Recorders; a remote recording company based in Toronto, but operating across North America. McClement has recorded many high profile events and artists including AC/DC, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, the MMVAs, the Grey Cup, and the Juno Awards. McClement spent five weeks in Tokyo in July and August, working with the sports commentary department at the Olympics. It was McClement's fourth games with Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS). He was working with a talented team of audio engineers from Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Poland and Portugal supervising the mixes of the 77 commentators, covering every event.
