Competing in the iconic “Your Shot” DJ contest had long been an ambition for local musician Kristie Lees. Having plied her craft at the Australian Institute of Music – graduating with a Bachelor of Music – Kristie was familiar with the art of performance. Moving into the world of DJ-ing, however, was a step into the unknown but filled with an undercurrent of excitement. Home Nightclub hosted the “Your Shot” competition in 2019 and it was there that Kristie had the opportunity to make her debut set as a DJ. Kim and Producer Steve discuss the new administration's rapid dismantling of Trump's policies and which is having a negative impact on the people. Kim notes there is a great awakening happening and a great tsunami of hope is on the horizon. Lorne Levy, mortgage specialist with Polygon Financial Group, states that mortgage rates actually pulled back slightly. Lorne explains the relationship between the 10-Year Treasury Note and mortgage rates. Give Lorne a call at 303-880-8881 for professional assistance whether you are purchasing a new home or looking to refinance. “Big business and big government like each other.” United Airlines announces “Your Shot to Fly Sweepstakes,” their program to coerce people to get the COVID vaccination (experimental drug) even though it is not yet an approved by the FDA. SB21-016 Protecting Preventive Health Care Coverage will raise costs for everyone as new health mandates are added to current coverage. The Colorado State Supreme Court rules that lawmakers can raise property taxes without taxpayers' consent per HB21-1164 Total Program Mill Levy Tax Credit. At the same time, Aurora School Board states that they will keep all employees even if their job position is no longer needed. So far 11 employees will be kept on at an anticipated cost of $2.7 million; that's $245,000/employee. Where is the fiscal responsibility for taxpayers? Where is all this money going? They are not paying teachers $245,000. Jason McBride, Vice President for Presidential Wealth Management, explains the importance of having the proper plan in place. One must consider the role of taxes and how to mitigate them. Give Jason a call at 303-694-1600 to set up a planning session to analyze the best financial strategies for your personal requirements. John Spence, Colorado State Director of the Electro-Magnetic Task Force, and Joe Weiss, international authority on cybersecurity, control systems and systems security, discuss the distinct difference between informational technology cybersecurity, Colonial Pipeline as an example, and operational cybersecurity. Operational control systems (think power, electricity, water) need to be examined and unfortunately the Harris/Biden/Rice administration does not realize nor acknowledge its' extreme importance to our lifestyle as control systems are left out of the recent Presidential Order signed May 12th. Two hundred electric transformers in America have been purchased that were manufactured in China. One is in Ault, Colorado. We discovered that a transformer shipped from China to the port of Houston has a “back door” that allows China to bypass security and destroy the transformer. Replacement parts would have to come from China and would take close to a year to reinstate the transformer. Large electric transformers are the “Achilles' heel” for the United States and if attacked would put us back to a 1850's lifestyle. Automation of our systems allows easy manipulation of our systems and we need a “Manhattan Project” to thwart this threat. John and Joe encourage people to contact Rep. James Langevin from Rhode Island, as he has been the most proactive Congressional member to address control system security going back to 2007.
Legendary Hockey Player and medical professional, Hayley Wickenheiser joins Game Day to chat about the This is Your Shot vaccination campaign and much more!
Today we travel with Jesse Gardner to Vashon Island, Washington, where, en route to look for whales, she discovers an unwieldy dream on the side of the road. Jesse is a writer and photographer. She co-founded Write, a workshop for writers on Orcas Island. She's been a contributor to the Huffington Post, and a Guest Columnist at the New Tribune. Her photographs have twice earned an "editors pick" on National Geographic's Your Shot and she's served as the Official Photographer of the Doe Bay and Timber! Music Festivals. Jesse is creating a feature-length screenplay based on the life of her 8x (do you say Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great) great-grandmother.

#48: This week on the pod I'm talking to one half of Toronto based duo, Moscow Apartment, the lovely Brighid Fry. Moscow Apartment hit the music scene with a bang and have just released their second EP, Better Daughter. I had a great time talking with Brighid about her partnership with Pascale, demanding a violin, and balancing her music with highschool. Great chat!Find Moscow Apartment online:https://www.moscowapartment.ca/https://open.spotify.com/artist/2IwSOO9bV4ZwvpnNk9f6lN https://www.instagram.com/moscowapt/Moscow Apartment bio: Moscow Apartment create lush, folk imbued indie rock that is interwoven with the timeless and perceptive writing of singer-songwriters Brighid Fry and Pascale Padilla. The harmonious teenage duo released their sophomore EP, Better Daughter (Hidden Pony Records) on July 10th, 2020. The EP presents an evolution of their sound from acoustic beginnings to the freedom they now enjoy playing live in a full band, which is translated in Better Daughter’s layered arrangements.2017 marked the release of Moscow Apartment’s acclaimed self-titled debut EP that turned industry heads and won them a Toronto Independent Music Award and a Canadian Folk Music Award. The following year they clinched a Canadian Songwriting Contest prize and won Slaight Music’s ‘It’s Your Shot’ songwriting contest and its $100,000 grand prize in artist development. Fry and Padilla have spent the intervening years touring and developing their skills as producers and writers, receiving guidance from the likes of Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew and Grammy-winner Chin Injeti. The duo produced Better Daughter in collaboration with Grammy winner Vance Powell (who produced Two Timer) and long time collaborator Guillermo Subauste, who assisted in bringing a poetic and multilayered collection of songs to life. Tackling subjects which range from internalized misogyny to the complicated nature of adolescence, the new E.P continues to bring electric crunch to indie folk.Music for the podcast today was created by Matt Large: https://open.spotify.com/artist/107WzwlsOTR6Nxnw2kPHd3

Dancing around the living room to music videos on a Saturday morning as a toddler, Cami Jones has been a lover of all things music since a young age. Springing from the home of renowned artists including Motez, Juliet Fox and Groove Terminator, the soundtrack to her childhood consisted of 90s house music with a mum who played Ministry of Sound CDs on the drive to school. She began creating ‘mixtapes’ at the age of 9, recording her favourite songs from underground radio station Fresh 92.7 to tape after school in her bedroom. This obsession only grew, and during her early teens her favourite time of the week was Saturday night when she’d keenly listen to DJs on Fresh, playing the best club house music each week. A few years later and surrounded by a blossoming house music scene in Adelaide, her early clubbing experiences began to further define her musical tastes. Her fun- loving personality meant she was a constant at the clubs contributing to the growing Australian house music scene. Fast forward a few years and a move up north to the sunny state of Queensland, Cami began her DJing career making waves with her signature style of thumping house and techno in her adopted town of Brisbane. After competing in DJ competition Your Shot, she performed in local venues such as Bowler Bar, Wasteland, Empire Hotel and Family Nightclub (now known as Venue EI8HT). Satisfied with the experience she gained and always one to reach for the stars, she ventured overseas to hit international waters. Since then she has DJed across several renowned venues internationally including headline slots at Sankeys (Ibiza), Ocean Beach Club (Ibiza), Jet Sundays (Ibiza), Es Paradis (Ibiza), The Rainbow Venues (Birmingham), Shelter (London), Rooftop 16 (Tirana) and 360 Lounge Bar (Ayia Napa). Cami has also kept busy by finishing her Bachelor of Public Relations university degree whilst drilling in to production work and studying a Diploma of Sound Production, majoring in Electronic Music Production, at SAE QANTM College. For the past two years she has also hosted her own weekly radio show-‘The Clubhouse with Cami Jones’ -on 105.7 Radio Metro. As a DJ, Cami knows exactly what the crowd wants and when they want it. She takes her listeners on a journey, showcasing a variety of her favourite tunes whilst ensuring the mood of her dancefloor is exactly how she wants it to be- deep, dark and dirty. Her passion for each and every one of the tunes she plays shines through the energy of her sets and whether it be a thumping kick or a deep, dirty bassline, she brings a uniquely educated blend of underground house and techno to the decks. Cami’s wide list of musical influences include Catz ‘N Dogz, Claude VonStroke, DJ Pierre, Mr. G, Nina Kraviz, Green Velvet, KiNK, Len Faki, Kill Frenzy, Shiba San, and Ciszak. Much like the multi-cultural country she comes from, she describes her style as a worldly blend drawing on the soulful elements of Chicago house, the pounding kick of Detroit techno, the underground feel of Berlin, the big basslines of London and the beautiful, deep melodies of the Balearic region. With her production work on the rise, a degree under her belt and a solid upcoming release schedule, 2018 has never looked better for this little dancing kid from the 90s.

4 years ago, National Geographic, the 129 year old publication known for big, bold photography, launched a photo sharing community. Your Shot provided community members with an opportunity to interact with National Geographic photographers and editors, receive feedback on their photos and possibly even have those photos featured by National Geographic online and in print. Since then, National Geographic’s usage of photos coming from the community has grown, on their website, on social media and in the magazine. Community manager Christina Shorter is our guest on this episode of Community Signal, discussing the management of Your Shot, including: Why they limit community members to 15 photo uploads per week The work done by the two National Geographic photo editor assigned to the community Their efforts to weed out photos that have been excessively manipulated Big Quotes “[We limit community members to 15 photo uploads per day because] we want people to be a little bit more strategic and more thoughtful with what they’re uploading because our mission is to tell stories together. You need to be thoughtful. You can take a photo, but when you think a little bit more about your title and your caption, it contributes to something larger and, also, because there are only two photo editors right now, and they do look at every single photo uploaded to our community.” -@shortercr “Our community, they wanted more engagement, so a small group of them, they created their own Facebook group. I joined it a month after I started working National Geographic, so I’ve been there for two years. I only step in if they tag me, if I need to step in. For the most part, it’s their space, which is awesome.” -@shortercr About Christina Shorter Christina Shorter is the community manager for National Geographic, where she focuses on Your Shot, a global community of 800,000+ storytellers.
