This week we offer up the 12th installment of our series called, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss side projects and solo releases from artists we love. We are celebrating the adjacencies to a true rock n' roll icon: ALICE COOPER. Not much to say about the man, the myth, the legend. Capn'n Content suggested that we focus our listening to the gunslinger guitarists that have supported the Coop throughout his long career. So, that's what we are doing! Enjoy.New to InObscuria? It's all about digging up obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about an artist that many of you know in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of the side projects that the guitarists who've supported him over his 50+ years have. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Hollywood Vampires - “The Boogieman Surprise” from Rise (2019)Billion Dollar Babies - “Too Young” from Battle Axe (1977)Electric Angels - “Dangerous Drug” from Electric Angels (1990)Lou Reed - “Vicious” from Lou Reed Live (1975)Kane Roberts - “Rock Doll” from Kane Robers (1987)Tokyo Police Club - “Little Sister (feat. Greg Alsop is the producer of In This New Season (and Kailea's husband!). He has been the drummer of Tokyo Police Club since the band was formed in 2005. TPC has released 9 Top 20 Singles, received 3 Juno Nominations, and recently announced their farewell tour happening later this year. Greg has recently been signed by Spectra Creative Agency as a composer for kid's television and movies. He has written songs for DreamWorks Animation, AppleTV+ and Nickelodeon.  In this conversation, Kailea and Greg explore: Greg's 20-year career with Tokyo Police Club, starting from what it was like to leave university for the band, the climb to fame, and what it feels like to be leaving the only job he's ever had. Greg and Kailea's relationship path and how Kailea's year at Harvard was one of Greg's most challenging - where he experienced depression and loneliness. How Greg's identity was shaped by experiencing rapid success at a young age. With the band, all risk was shared – now he has more ownership over his work and this comes with greater pressures (yet the potential for greater fulfillment).   How Greg is creating success for himself on terms he can control (whereas his path to success with the band felt like a wild, uncontrollable dream). How Greg is navigating starting a new career as a composer and all the fear, self-doubt and insecurity that comes along with it. How Greg is learning to accept himself and his ‘enoughness,' but that it's an ongoing struggle of feeling a deep need to achieve. Kailea and Greg share their hearts and provide a candid look into their relationship. Identity struggles are relatable to us all and learning to build safety and freedom inside ourselves is a lifelong journey.    This episode is brought to you by the following sponsors:  Modo Yoga Charlottetown. Kim, who has a background with Greenpeace and climate activism, is also the mother of Brighid Fry of the popular Canadian indie-folk group Housewife (formerly Moscow Apartment). Welcome to the Rocky Mtn Mixdown podcast where we discuss and document the making of the Colorado music scene. On this week's episode, hosts Kenny Vasko and Liz Vasko are paling around with former Dog House members and current Dog House hall-of-famers Eddie and Justin of Colorado-based Big Dopes. Big Dopes' music evokes the loose, lighthearted feel of 90s alternative and indie with detours into loungey 60s-indebted pop. Lead songwriter Eddie uses a playful, conversational baritone to sing through neuroses about long-distance relationships, being a houseguest, and wasting money on busted headphones. Veteran drummer Ricky lends a steady groove and harmonies, and Justin's bass often takes the lead, playing energetic, melodic lines. Paul, who joined in 2019, plays tasteful guitar, violin, and keys. Big Dopes' second album Destination Wedding came out in November 2021 and was recorded in 2020 during the heart of the pandemic. The band recorded the album in Denver while two bandmates were living out-of-state, making the recording process an "interesting" but also deeply fulfilling experience. The band recently played their first shows at Denver's iconic Bluebird Theater (with Tokyo Police Club) and Gothic Theater, both of which being major achievements and benchmarks in the group's career. Big Dopes is currently working on a vinyl release for the new album, (projected for this summer) and continue to get together for weekly writing sessions to work on new music! If you're listening from the (currently frigid) midwest, look out for Big Dopes' spring midwest tour April 7th through 16th! “I've Always Wanted To Be Me” You might know Dave Monks from his work with his band Tokyo Police Club. Since 2005 The Canadian-bred TPC have been one of the most exciting indie rock outfits around, putting out winning albums like Champ and Elephant Shell. They played on Letterman and Craig Ferguson played festivals like Outside Lands, Lollapalooza and Coachella and though the beloved Juno-nominated band are still an ongoing proposition so is Monks' solo career. His sophomore album I've Always Wanted To Be Me is a nervy blast of life-affirming indie rock that's big and crunchy, hook filled and catchy—but it's also lyrically direct and emotionally vulnerable, making it one of the most memorable albums of the year. In this equally memorable chat, Monks talks to Alex about being competitive, the benefits of having a partner who's also in the music business and the changing shapes of his daily practice. www.tokyopoliceclub.com www.davegoeswild.com www.bombshellradio.com Stereo Embers: Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

We had the pleasure of interviewing Geographer over Zoom video!  Synth-pop luminary Geographer recently released his newest album, Down and Out In The Garden Of Earthly Delights, an 18 track voyage of synth-pop bliss. Formed in San Francisco, Geographer is the moniker for now Los Angeles-based artist Mike Deni. Earlier this month he announced a headlining U.S. tour that will launch in San Francisco on March 8th and includes stops in Chicago, Boston, New York, and more before wrapping on April 16th in Phoenix, AZ.  He is also confirmed for Treefort Festival and for the Just Like Heaven Festival 2022.ABOUT THE ALBUM & GEOGRAPHER:“I hit a ceiling in San  Francisco. I was writing a lot more songs with people in LA, so I moved down. I didn't really have any friends and just spent way too much time alone, making music. I wasn't thriving, I was surviving. Everything feels possible here. That's the vibe of LA: You've made it to paradise! You should be really happy...and then nobody is. There's a lot of darkness —you have to sift through everything to find your own path,” remarks Deni. While recording his album, engineer  Jules de  Gasperis showed him an image of the famed, 15th-century triptych painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” depicting alternate realities of paradise, hell, and reality. “It's like, why are we all so bummed out? We are all miserable.  And  we're  in  paradise.” And thus, Down and Out in the Garden of Earthly Delights—recorded between Spring and Winter of 2019 —was born. Part social scientist, part troubadour, if Geographer is an expert at anything, it's precisely chronicling life's imperfections. He has headlined many national tours, played Outside Lands, Firefly, and other festivals, released two critically acclaimed albums, and performed with such musical luminaries as K.Flay, The Flaming Lips, Young The Giant, Tycho, Ratatat, Betty Who, and Tokyo Police Club. We want to hear from you! As a teenager, Jason Dufour's musical purchases were informed not by the name on the front cover or the track listing on the back; instead, he looked to the liner notes. “I would walk into HMV and I knew the guys there,” he begins to recall. “I'd say, ‘I think this one dude worked on this CD, can I open it? I just want to see!' If I opened it and didn't see the name, I'm like, ‘I don't want to buy this!'” Two decades later, Jason Dufour is the name in the liner notes, wherever you may be reading them. A graduate of London's Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART), Dufour has gone on to have a hand in multiple Juno Award-winning and nominated records across a slew of genres, and is one of the Canada's most in-demand and well-rounded engineers today. His résumé is dotted with marquee names, including Lights, Three Days Grace, Tokyo Police Club, Donovan Woods, Protest the Hero, and The Tea Party, and is punctuated by a Juno victory of his own as 2017's Recording Engineer of the Year for his mixing work on July Talk's acclaimed LP Touch. On episode 29, I am joined by Jacob Tsafatinos of the band Good Kid - who's latest EP - Good Kid 2 came out on November 6, 2020. This band is one of my favourite musical discoveries of 2020, with a sound reminiscent of The Strokes and Tokyo Police Club, with a little Fallout Boy or Panic at the Disco in vocals for good measure. What I love about the band is the visual and creative identity they have developed for themselves based on their passions and interests that lie outside of the music world, from video games to anime. We talk about the character the band has created called “Nomu” who is embedded in all of their album art - like Eddie from Iron Maiden - generating what they call “fan art friday”. We get into the creation of the band's very own 8-bit side scrolling video game called Good Kid - Ghost King's Revenge, and it's accompanying 8-bit soundtrack of their music - that they created themselves. We also talk about how they got their song “Witches” added to Fortnite radio on the ever popular video game - Fortnite. If you have music you would like us to hear, or have a great release day rollout plan you want the world to know about, send an email with your EPK and release plan to: contactreleaseday@gmail.comThank you so much for listening, and Welcome to Release Day!Theme music composed by Evan Denley.Reference Links:Good Kid Website: https://goodkidofficial.com/DMCA: https://www.dmca.com/News from Twitch RE: DMCA: https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/twitch-reaches-new-agreement-to-protect-streamers-from-dmca-strikes-1658617/Decolonial Clothing - https://decolonialclothingco.ca/Release Day Spotify Playlist - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0GbiC5YorhQObK1n3FndhJ?si=l0sbbP1ARnaWaDbFRVzpEwRelease Day Website - https://releasedayseries.com/"Release Day," an ongoing series where we sit down with Canadian musicians of all genres to discuss their latest releases from singles to albums, and their strategy behind releasing it to the world.https://releasedayseries.com/https://twitter.com/ReleasedaySrshttps://www.instagram.com/releaseday_series/

Garnering 3 million-plus streams and the acclaim of NPR, Paste, NME, Metro Times and more by 2019, the sonic alter ego of Michigan native, singer, producer, and guitarist Jason Singer bottles the feeling of the region on the 2019 EP, Where Do We Go From Here [C3 Records]. Jason brought Michigander to life during 2014 while moving across his home state to Kalamazoo. In 2016 the independent single “Nineties” took off, claiming real estate on multiple major Spotify playlists and cracking 1 million streams on the platform. Between releasing the 2018 Midland EP, the group shared the stage with the likes of Ra Ra Ra Riot, Tokyo Police Club, Twin Peaks, and JR JR in addition to gracing the stages of festivals with alt-j, Solange, Foster The People, and Run The Jewels, to name a few. Signed to C3 Records, he recorded Where Do We Go From Here and expanded the sound in 2019 as illuminated on singles such as “Misery” and "Poplar", of which the later saw placements on Spotify's The New Alt, Fresh Finds, and Rock'n Vibes. Portlander Andre Allen Anjos is up for a Grammy on Monday for best remixed recording. He works under the name RAC, and he's become the go-to guy for remixing indie bands, from The Arcade Fire to Foster the People. As a college student in Greenville, Illinois, Andre Allen Anjos didn't aspire to be a globe-trotting artist and DJ whose songs have racked up millions of listens.“My highest aspiration was to be a studio assistant, where I could work with recording equipment and make a living, but not necessarily be a musician,” he says. But he wasn't getting anywhere, so he decided to create his own agency called the Remix Artist Collective, or RAC. His first cold call: the Shins. The band was putting out its third album, “Wincing the Night Away.” The manager asked for some demos. Weeks later, he called Anjos in the middle of history class — Anjos had a green light to remix “Sleeping lessons.”“James mercer, he's like super nice,” says Anjos of meeting the bandleader backstage after finishing the remix. “I was just this little kid — so scared to meet them. He told me he liked my version better than his.”The music taste-making blog Pitchfork picked up the remix, and the band released it as a B-side. Suddenly Anjos had real cred, and he saw an opening.“At the time, remixing was just dance beats underneath a vocal,” he recalls. “Not a lot of people were remixing indie bands or remixing more rock-oriented stuff.”Pretty soon, bands were soliciting Anjos. He's worked with a who's who of indie royalty: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Death Cab for Cutie, Tokyo Police Club, not to mention mega acts like U2, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
