The ASX saw modest movement today, briefly hitting a new record high but largely treading water ahead of key events. The US Federal Reserve's much-anticipated decision on a potential rate cut is expected to significantly impact global markets, with a possible 50 basis point reduction under consideration. Australian jobs data, set to release tomorrow, will also be closely monitored. On the corporate front, Harvey Norman is facing legal action over allegedly selling unnecessary warranties, while Synlait narrowly avoided bankruptcy through a shareholder-backed capital raise. The materials and healthcare sectors struggled, with miners like BHP and Rio Tinto hit by falling iron ore prices, while utilities and energy stocks performed better due to rising oil prices. (AURN News) — The criminal trial of former President Donald Trump continues, marking a historic moment in U.S. history. The White House is treading carefully in its public comments on the case against Mr. Trump, which surrounds an alleged hush money payment made by Trump's team to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has vehemently denied the charges, taking to his Truth Social platform to denounce the trial as "AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA!" and "RIGGED, UNCONSTITUTIONAL." In a series of posts, the former president lashed out at the "conflicted, Trump Hating Judge" overseeing the case, claiming he is being prevented from responding to "people that are on TV lying and spewing hate all day long." Trump demanded the gag order be lifted, decrying the "New York System of 'Justice'" as being "decimated by critics from all over the World." The White House, for its part, is treading cautiously when it comes to commenting on the unfolding legal drama. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday that the administration is being "super, super mindful" in its remarks, given the "ongoing" nature of the case. “Even if it's asking an opinion about the, you know — the historic nature of what's happening and what's going to occur over the next couple of weeks,” she said. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has continued his campaign schedule, visiting his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania on Tuesday. The president is expected to make additional stops in the Keystone State in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. While Tuesday and Thursday are campaign-focused days, the president will make the economy the highlight of his visit to the steel city on Wednesday, according to the White House. After the release of the now-classic Alive or Just Breathing, Western Massachusetts-based Killswitch Engage experienced a set back that could stifle many bands on the verge of success. With the sudden departure of original (and current) frontman Jesse Leach, the band was forced to find a suitable replacement. Through an extensive search, they found their vocalist in Blood Has Been Shed's Howard Jones who quickly joined the band on the road as well as the studio to craft their follow-up album. In only the past year or so, AI has opened a Pandora's box of opportunities to better care for customers and their vehicles – so much so that today's consumer has unlocked a new level of knowledge surrounding all aspects of maintenance. Here's an example: A driver thinks it might be time for a new set of tires since their current set is looking a bit on the worn side. He doesn't own a tread depth gauge and wouldn't know what to do with one anyway. However, he does have an app on his smartphone that uses machine learning technology to analyze treadwear and creates an AI-generated recommendation on whether that tire needs to be repaired or replaced. Going a step further, though, the app communicates with the driver's tire dealer to indicate he'll be coming in for a new set of tires.Zach Olson, founder and CEO of Treads, an AI-powered car maintenance platform, says this is only the beginning."I think when looking at it from the industry perspective, there's all sorts of talk of technician shortages, training gaps, and just really fulfilling the demand for the professionals on that side of the industry. But, technology can come in and start filling in quite a few gaps where if you can automate so much of the customer experience, the customer service side, so when a car shows up in the shop, you know exactly what it needs, what's wrong with it, and how to go about with the right solution – and the customers already paid for it," Olson says. "Technology's going to fill that gap where technicians can do what they're best at, and that's getting people back on the road safely." In this episode of What's Treading, Olson, explains how the Treads direct-to-consumer mobile app subscription service can simplify the car maintenance process. He also details how the company's growth strategy involves partnering with a range of service providers, from small businesses to large national brands.Tire Review: www.tirereview.comAAPEX: www.aapexshow.com

In Matthew 14:22-36, we see Christ miraculously walking on water to the fearful surprise of His disciples as well as Peter's attempt to walk towards Jesus before he begins to sink. While there are certainly personal applications to be made, we must be cautious when we approach familiar passages such as this so that we do not turn these miraculous displays of the Son of God into an inspirational story focused on ourselves more than on Jesus. This passage is first and foremost about Christ. The boat, the wind, the disciples, and every other detail is the backdrop of a display of the power and person of the Savior. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. For more information, visit LegacyRBC.org.

This episode is available on Spotify and Apple PodcastsIn this week's Contrarian Marketing Podcast episode, we discussed several timely topics in the world of marketing and technology. We talked about Twitter's controversial rebranding to "X" under new owner Elon Musk. We debated whether this rebrand would significantly hurt Twitter's user base and engagement. While the platform has already lost some users, we disagreed on whether a core community will remain loyal to Twitter regardless of the name. Next, we explored the launch of Meta's new texting app Threads as a potential rival to Twitter. We had differing views on whether Threads can gain traction and find an engaged user base. While some marketers may join, we questioned whether Threads offers enough unique value to attract the masses away from Twitter. We also addressed concerns about a potential recession and its impact on marketing budgets. We discussed the difference between "growth" budgets being cut and "fear of missing out" budgets still allocated to things like AI. While business is slowing, we considered whether companies have already squeezed budgets as far as they can go.In addition, we discussed Google's new Search Experience called SGE. We felt it still needs improvement but may be better received by non-SEO users. We debated whether Google is overstating SGE's capabilities for now. Finally, we previewed our upcoming interview with renowned consultant Alan Weiss

This week's podcast is about the recent launch of Threads, Meta's clone of Twitter. My assessment is that Threads will likely beat Twitter. However, this depends on Treads getting product market fit. They have to get and retain actual engagement at significant. If that doesn't happen, then none of my strategy analysis matters. You can listen to this podcast here, which has the slides and graphics mentioned. Welcome to another episode of Titles Are Overrated where we discuss everything you never knew you needed to know or wanted to know. This week, we had a special guest and Riyad's fan, Nancy, join us.Treads vs Twitter - Stephen and Maz discuss the new platform that everyone is using, but Riyad is still slow to the game. Maybe he's waiting for it to become "Trending" instead of "Treads-ing"? Speaking of measuring contests, Elon Musk has requested a literal dick measuring contest with Mark Zuckerberg. Do you think he mad about Meta's new app? We're not sure what they're measuring, but we're pretty sure it has something to do with rocket ships and AI.In other news, a study shows that single women are starting to prefer "Stroller Candy," aka Maz. Find out why. We also had a deep discussion about the difference between love and being IN LOVE. Let's just say it got so deep that we had to come up for air.And finally, Nancy revealed her favorite type of ice from a fast food place. Don't worry, we won't leave you in suspense - it's not cubed. Join us next time on "Outside", where we'll be discussing the best way to peel a banana. Spoiler alert: it involves a machete and a banana hammock. Trust us, it's going to be a-peeling! The first mini episode of CX Patterns, what I'm calling Loose Threads & Missing Threads, correcting any mistakes, and adding any overlooked examples or points from the main episode.Links:Push Notification FatigueCarrot Weather AppThanks to my talented colleague Emily Tolmer for the cover art. Thanks to my friends at Moon Island for the music.Full Transcript: Loose Threads and Missing Threads: Anticipation EditionHi, Sam stern here again. So new cx patterns episodes will drop every two weeks but I had a few things I didn't cover in the last episode And it occurred to me that this is probably going to happen every episode. You put something out in the world and the minute you do a few more examples or ideas pop into your head but also feedback and suggestions from people who engage with the content thank you by the way makes you wish you could update the episode. At least it makes me feel that way. So instead of editing every episode incessantly, not a healthy habit, I thought I would release a mini episode in between the main episodes to share a few more tidbits. I'm calling these Loose Threads and Missing Threads riffing on the pattern's theme. Loose Threads are where I think I got something wrong, or at least not quite right. And Missing Threads are something left out that I want to include. So first a loose thread from the anticipation episode. There was a wonderful cartoon shared on LinkedIn this week that made its way to me thanks to Gloria Gupta. Appreciate the share. The cartoon, linked in the show notes, highlighted the absurd number of notifications we get. Estimates Range as high as 80 per day for an average smartphone user. And so the implication of that is that it is easy to take an idea like the one I shared in the first episode of the podcast: set reasonable expectations for the upcoming experience, and build anticipation for it so customers are excited. You can take that to an extreme that is no longer a good experience. That's the lesson from this cartoon and it's a great caveat of caution to add. And now a missing thread. I mentioned in the podcast that barring a few notable exceptions surprise and delight moments are always provided through human interactions. So I wanted to share one of those notable exceptions the Carrot Weather App. The snarky, funny, insulting tone of the weather updates it provides makes my day, almost every day. You can set the notifications along a few dimensions, politics for instance from apolitical to anarchist with stops in between from conservative to liberal you can imagine all the different settings. You can also turn the profanity on or off and turn the personality up to 11, if you like which is my preferred setting the Overkill Personality. Anyway, I think the creativity, the humor, the surprising references in the notifications, combined with actual accurate weather forecasting available with one click or as a notification - see above - which makes it effective and easy while also having a strong emotional appeal that the user can personalize. I think all of that together nails the equation for digitally delivered surprise and delight moments. That's all for now thanks for listening to the first loose threads and missing threads Mini episode of the CX patterns podcast I'll be back next week with a full episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Listeners, today at Volts we've got something a little different, a little off our beaten path. It’s an episode about one of my favorite music festivals. It might not seem obvious to you why you should care about a small music festival in the far northwest of the country, but I think if you are patient and listen for a little bit, you'll get a sense of why I’m spending time on it (beyond self-indulgence).By the time 2011 rolled around, I was more or less done with music festivals. I love live music and have been to many great concerts, but most festival experiences were so hectic, stressful, crowded, dirty, and exploitative that it just no longer seemed worth the effort. (That has only gotten more true in intervening years.) So I was a little skeptical when a friend told me about the Pickathon festival, held every year about 20 miles outside of Portland, Oregon. For one thing … “Pickathon”? Sounds like one of those twangy festivals with crunchy hippies playing mandolins and banjos. That is not my bag. But he assured me that the lineup is diverse, from all genres, focused on acts that are about to break bigger. He talked me into going. And listener, it blew my mind. For one thing, the land itself is gorgeous — it is held at Pendarvis Farm, a sprawling area of pastureland and wooded hills that is used only once a year for gatherings, only for Pickathon. Every attendee camps (the festival lasts three days), but not in some crowded parking lot. Rather, there is a whole network of trails running through the woods, with established camping spots that have been used and reused since 1999 when the festival started. Then there’s the crowd. It wasn't jam-packed. You could always get food or drink with very little line. You could always see the band, no matter which band you wanted to see. There were tons and tons of families and children and almost no backward-baseball-cap bros. It felt oddly wholesome. But perhaps the strongest impression I took away that first weekend was how weirdly, anomalously clean the festival was. One staple of festival life is giant, overflowing trash cans, with food wrappings and disposable cups strewn everywhere. At Pickathon there was none of that. There was virtually no visible trash. Water was free, available at spigots across the grounds. It all struck me as so intensely human, so humane, that I fell in love and attended almost every year thereafter. (Here’s a 2013 story I did for Grist and a 2017 story I did for Vox, in which I interviewed 20 artists in three days.)Pickathon is back this year after a two-year hiatus, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk with festival founder Zale Schoenborn about how the festival has evolved since 1999, what's next on the sustainability front, and what's new at the festival this year. Even if you don't happen to live in the Pacific Northwest and can't attend, I think you'll enjoy hearing from someone who has put so much thought into into bringing humans together to commune and celebrate in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.
