Na finał siódmego sezonu podcastu „Jak ona to robi” proponuję odcinek specjalny w zupełnie innej formule – Jak ona to robiła – dedykowany zmarłej nagle 15 kwietnia 2025 roku, w wieku 74 lat, wspaniałej aktorce Jadwidze Jankowskiej-Cieślak. W teatrze pracowała m.in. z Jerzym Jarockim, Jerzym Grzegorzewskim, Krystianem Lupą czy Agnieszka Glińską. Ostatnią rolę zagrała w nagradzanym przedstawieniu „Elizabeth Costello” Krzysztofa Warlikowskiego w Nowym Teatrze w Warszawie (w tytułową postać wcielała się wraz z pięcioma innymi osobami aktorskimi). Tę jedyną w swoim rodzaju artystkę wspominają jej współpracowniczki – aktorki: Maja Komorowska, Julia Kijowska, Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Agnieszka Wosińska, Joanna Szczepkowska, Małgorzata Niemirska, reżyserka Agnieszka Glińska, wieloletnia suflerka Magda Jaracz i inspicjentka Karolina Zbrożek.
She tells Jeff Douglas about the letters that inspired her new book, "The Golden Daughter: My Mother's Secret Past as a Ukrainian Slave Worker in Nazi Germany." It hits store shelves August 5, and is published by Anansi Press.
Sitting on a Suitcase: Psychoanalytic Stories (Karnac Books, 2025) contains eighteen moving tales of disparate Jewish lives from Eliat Aram, Leslie B. Brissett, Louisa Diana Brunner, Halina Brunning, Leila Djemal, Shmuel Erlich, Mira Erlich-Ginor, Franca Fubini, Stan Gold, Larry Hirschhorn, Susan Kahn, Alicia E. Kaufmann, Olya Khaleelee, James Krantz, Vega Zagier Roberts, Edward R. Shapiro, Mannie Sher, and Marlene Spero. The book begins with a thought-provoking preface from former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and ends with a sensitive epilogue from Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, both providing societal containment for what comes between them. The contents also include two non-Jewish German writers, Claudia Nagel and Dorothee von Tippelskirch-Eissing, who between them provide a bravely honest introduction and conclusions to the stories contained within. Also contained within the book are black and white photographs of the contributors' young selves that provide an additional evocative layer to the words contained within. Plus four black and white line drawings to illustrate each of the four parts of the book: Orthodox beginnings, Sitting on the boundary: Marginality and belonging, Emigration and identity, and Will history repeat itself? This was not an easy book for its authors to write, revisiting the past unlocked painful memories and re-awoke fears of persecution. The manuscript was nearing completion when Hamas attacked a kibbutzim on October 7, 2023 and the war in Gaza followed. Incidents of anti-Semitism increased worldwide and questions were raised whether the book should be held back. However, its themes became more relevant than ever and these stories need to be read. Themes such as issues around having a voice, or finding a voice during formative years; finding a family through friends; a sense of not belonging because of constant relocation, or finding a sense of belonging through family and friends. Aspects of life that resonate with us all alongside the deeper theme of the impact of Jewish identity on every facet of life. This is a book full of emotion and meaning that needs to be read by all with an interest in humanity and fostering connection and understanding across nations. Learn more about your ad choices. Covidowa artystka - mówi o sobie pani Halina.
I o różnych końcach. Adaptacja i reżyseria: Magdalena Małecka-Wippich. Reżyseria dźwięku: Paweł Szaliński. Muzyka: Zespół Konkubinat (Altówka - Magdalena Małecka-Wippich. Instrumenty perkusyjne, elektronika – Marcin Wippich). Kierownictwo produkcji: Beata Jankowska. Obsada: Maria Maj, Anna Seniuk, Agata R

Ceri interviews award winning filmmaker Halina Dyrschka, whose documentary "Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint" brought worldwide attention to the pioneer of abstract art. Halina shares her creative experiences, from acting and classical singing to filmmaking, the challenges of securing funding for her documentary and her battle against institutional gatekeeping in the art world. She also talks about how artists can embrace true creativity by recognising the essentialness of exploration and that reality is often overrated! KEY TAKEAWAYS Halina's creative journey began in acting and classical singing, but frustration with the narrow minded theatre system led her to filmmaking, to maintain creative independence and tell stories that matter to her. When first seeing Hilma af Klint's work, Halina experienced an immediate emotional connection and became angry at how institutions had overlooked such powerful art, revealing systemic problems in museum culture. The art world often operates on institutional thinking rather than individual vision, people in museums across different countries think similarly because they prioritise career and success over the true purpose of art. Creating great work requires collaborating with people who will challenge you; Halina values working with editors and composers who bring different strengths and aren't afraid to push back when something isn't working. Funding is a major challenge for independent filmmakers, but Halina emphasises the importance of starting projects through self-funded research and following your enthusiasm before securing complete financing. After winning film prizes, Halina realised the happiness didn’t last and that what matters most is the inner journey and connecting with even one person who understands your work. Halina is drawn to extraordinary, overlooked biographies like Maria Sibylla Merian, a 17th-century female scientist and artist who travelled to South America to study insects when people were still burning witches in Europe. True creativity often emerges from spiritual exploration; both Hilma af Klint and James Howell (subjects of Halina's documentaries) were interested in spiritual questions. BEST MOMENTS "Reality is highly overrated. Especially as an artist.” "It would have been a completely different film if we had gotten funding immediately. It took me quite a long time, five years for the research and doing it. But those were important years because even in the last half year, things were discovered." "When my film was finished, I was refused from festivals for weeks, over months. Then I had an interesting moment; I felt that if I could just reach one person with it, that would be a huge success." "If you put yourself alongside people who you are happy to be challenged by, I think that's a really great and exciting creative environment, where someone can playfully tease you into another way of thinking." "The ego is the biggest problem for all of us. It's something we really have to get rid of, hopefully in this life." "If it happens, it happens. If it should be, it will be. And if not, it does not. You have to trust life a bit, always trust life." "The most important thing is that you trust yourself because then other people can trust you as well."

An episode that advocates for social change! Here's what's in store for today's episode: * Today, Matt and Angela are joined by Halina Brooke, MS, LPC, to discuss autism-affirming social skills.* Halina is an LPC from Arizona whose practice is entirely focused on supporting misfits, oddballs, highly sensitive individuals, and creatives.* We discuss challenges in the clinical autism world, including the discomfort neurotypicals often feel when autistic voices with lived experience challenge their preconceived notions about autism.* We dive into the slippery slope of neurodivergence and labels, exploring how to use labels in a way that feels right for you.* Most social skills groups for autistic individuals focus on "teaching your children to be normal," but Halina's approach is different and stands out by being truly autism-affirming.* Halina's social groups and approach are centered on helping autistic individuals enjoy their environment and experiences, rather than focusing on making neurotypical people feel comfortable.* The goal of Halina's therapy and social group is to help individuals find ways to enjoy whatever context they're in, while also understanding their nervous system's signals and learning how to cope with them.* We discuss the trauma that can result from ABA therapy for survivors and how this group can offer support and healing for those individuals.* Halina's mission in her therapy practice is to challenge the status quo by creating innovative, non-ABA, neurodiversity-affirming social skills groups specifically for adults over the age of 25.* We also talk about how ChatGPT can assist us as autistics in improving our social skills by helping us assess how our words or mannerisms might be perceived by outsiders or neurotypicals.* Our hosts also dive into the concept of "neurotypical packing peanuts" – the idea of having to "pack" an accomplishment with hardships or details that downplay it, so it doesn't come across as bragging.* We discuss autism advocacy, highlighting how neurotypicals aren't advocating for themselves, but rather for the preservation of social norms, and the need to challenge an entrenched system.* Matt talks about the concept of code-switching—having to switch between masked and unmasked situations—and the impact that can have on our nervous systems as autistic individuals.* As we know, autistic masking can lead to burnout, exhaustion, and even near-death experiences. Yet, neurotypicals often focus on urging us to stop masking at all costs, without fully understanding the consequences.* We discuss post-diagnosis or discovery grief, the missteps of our parents, and the process of forgiveness.* Finally, we discuss how, as neurodiversity-affirming advocates, we can make the world safer for autistic people. This includes speaking out about the problematic nature of ABA, while also being cautious, as some ABA programs have co-opted neurodiversity-affirming language.“And that's the big thing about autism and ADHD, because the DSM doesn't allow for internal experience. It's always about how we impact the neurotypicals around us. It's all about how the doctor can observe you and how irritated the doctor is with your choice of conversation topics or how you don't make eye contact or how offputting you are to the observer.” - Matt“You know, the folks who are diagnosed [autistic] and were diagnosed as children, this is the generation that kind of came up with that huge wave of ABA, and when you are constantly told that your way of being is wrong and needs to be fixed, it can leave you with a really ingrained feeling of self-doubt. And so even if you're doing a situation ‘right', like if you have a special interest for a certain kind of book and you come to that book club and everyone else is like you in that way, if you went through ABA as a kid, you're still gonna walk in there with crippling self-doubt wondering if you're doing it right. But these might be your people.” - Halina“If you're very happy and very comfortable being unmasked and then you have to go back into an intensely masked situation, it almost makes it worse because when you're used to having to mask all the time and that's just the norm, then you become accustomed to the chains that you wear.” - Matt“You become acutely aware of the trauma that you've had instead of normalizing it and dissociating and just saying, ‘yeah, everyone gets punched in the gut on Thursdays. That's just how it happens.'” - Matt (on autistic code-switching and cognitive dissonance)Did you enjoy this episode? Pour yourself a tall glass of milk (or better yet, have an admirer send you one) and prepare for a conversation about an erotic thriller blowing up the internet right now. Halina Reijn is the Dutch writer-director responsible for 2022's Bodies Bodies Bodies, who's followed up that razor-sharp murder-mystery pastiche with another film that infuses an old genre with modern politics. In Babygirl, Nicole Kidman's tech CEO Romy begins an affair with an intern – Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. The potential consequences of their relationship are catastrophic: Romy, married with kids, could lose her family and her rarified position as one of the few female leaders in a male-dominated tech world. But, as Halina explains in our spoiler conversation, Samuel is unlocking in Romy desires that she didn't know she had – longings till now, clouded in shame.Listen in to hear about the personal parts of Halina's own journey with her sexuality that informed Babygirl, why she chose a dog attack as the thematically-important “meet cute” for Romy and Samuel – and what she hopes is the knock-on effect of this morally complex tale on the discourse around the pleasures women permit themselves to seek.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. In this episode of the Kankakee Podcast, hosts Jake LaMore and Bill Yohnka welcome a diverse mix of storytellers for a special "Yarn Factory Listeners" event recorded live at Flanagan's Irish Pub.First up, Mike Leddin takes us on a wild ride as he recounts the nerve-wracking experience of getting his car stuck on train tracks. From initial panic to an unexpected rescue, Mike's story is filled with tension and relief. Bill Yohnka, our lively guest host, transitions smoothly, bringing out the poignancy and humor in each tale.Long-time Kankakee resident Halina Gumiela follows, sharing a charming story about assumptions and an impromptu elevated dining experience in Chicago. With delightful twists, Halina captures the essence of serendipitous encounters.Evangeline "Van" Johnson, returning to the storytelling scene post-retirement, captivates with "I Love You Too, Daddy, Beware of What You Put in Writing," a heartfelt narrative that dives into family dynamics, childhood crushes, and the embarrassing aftermath of discovered love letters.Next, Darnell Davis Jr., also known as "Keep it Smooth," tells "The Longest Walk of My Life," set against the backdrop of Milwaukee in 2008. From a 5.9-mile trek for a paycheck to the complexities of job-related drug tests, Darnell's tale is a reflective journey through youthful optimism and the harsh realities of adulthood.Donna Worth shifts the tone with a tender story about family, humor, and the small moments of connection that arise from unplanned travel to her cousin Jamie's funeral. A humorous pickle incident underscores her narrative's warmth and poignancy.Kyle Cassady, an actor from Bourbonnais, wraps up the evening with a hilarious recount of managing celebrity chaos at Soho House in New York City, involving a stiletto-wielding pop star. Growing Antisemitism in the Therapy Profession: An interview with Halina Brooke, LPC As part of a double episode release, Curt and Katie interview Halina Brooke, LPC, founder of the Jewish Therapist Collective, about experiences of antisemitism in our profession. We explore the foundations of antisemitism throughout the development and innovation in psychotherapy. We also talk about lived experiences of Jewish therapists of increasing antisemitism since the attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023. Transcripts for this episode will be available at mtsgpodcast.com! In this podcast episode, we look at the increase in antisemitism in the therapist community In a recent article from Jewish Insider, there are stories about increasing antisemitism in the therapy profession, including in online therapist Facebook groups. We decided to reach out to Jewish Therapist Collective founder, Halina Brooke, LPC, to talk us through what has been happening throughout her time as a therapist as well as the escalation of antisemitism in the past year. Experiences of Antisemitism in the Therapy Profession · The Jewish Therapist Collective has received an increase in calls from clients who are seeking Jewish therapists after October 7, 2023 due to cultural incompetence from non-Jewish therapists · Jewish therapists have reported being sidelined or fired from their mental health workplaces due to being Jewish · Jewish therapy students report being told that their presence is triggering to non-Jewish therapists · Jewish therapists and counselor have reported losses of peer groups due to antisemitism, including affinity groups for intersectional identities Antisemitic Incidents Within Therapist Facebook Groups · Posts targeting “Zionist” therapists have been used to identify Jewish therapists · There are lists of “Zionist Therapists” that include only Jewish therapists, potentially ones who have not made political statements about Zionism, that “antiracist” groups are suggesting should not receive any referrals due to their status as “Zionists” · These lists appear to solely be lists of Jewish therapists, without including Christian Zionists or others with Zionist beliefs What do therapists need to know about Jewish Culture and Identity? · Multicultural education on Jewish identity in graduate school is insufficient · There is as much diversity within the Jewish community as there is between the Jewish and other communities · Halina discusses the historical context of Jewish identity and how often they are not seen as part of the dominant majority · It is important to seek consultation from Jewish colleagues due to the many nuances and differences · Even though many of the founders of psychotherapy are Jewish, there is a lack of inclusion of Jewish identity in multicultural courses What support is available for Jewish Therapists? · The Jewish Therapist Collective provides community and training · Halina described the steps that she has taken to hide her Jewishness as well as to find support within the community Learn more about these resources: jewishtherapists.org Stay in Touch with Curt, Katie, and the whole Therapy Reimagined #TherapyMovement: Our Linktree: https://linktr.ee/therapyreimagined Modern Therapist's Survival Guide Creative Credits: Voice Over by DW McCann https://www.facebook.com/McCannDW/ Music by Crystal Grooms Mangano https://groomsymusic.com/
