This week on Inspired Edinburgh we have Mostafa Salameh. Mostafa is one of only 16 people on the planet to have completed the ‘Explorers Grand Slam’, a truly astonishing feat which involves climbing the Seven highest Summits in all seven continents as well as conquering the North and South Poles. His journey began in 2004 following a vivid dream in which he was reciting the call to prayer from the world’s highest peak. He followed this calling and became the first Jordanian to climb Mount Everest in 2008 and in the same year was knighted by King Abdullah II of Jordan.  Four years into his sporting career he made a conscious decision to climb for a purpose. In the spirit of helping those in need, he launched three successful initiatives that raised millions for charity. In March 2016, he published his first book titled ‘Dreams of a Refugee’ and a large part of his time is now passionately invested in inspiring and motivating children, youths and adults into realizing their own dreams in the same way he has. Known fondly as Scotland’s ‘bionic mum’, Corinne is an author, TEDx and motivational speaker, and Founder of Finding Your Feet, a charity that supports families affected by amputation or limb difference through a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects. In June 2013 after suffering acute pneumonia and septicemia, surgeons were forced to amputate both her hands and her legs below the knee. Since then she has set three world records, learned to fly a plane, abseiled off a multi story building and carried the baton for the Commonwealth Games. She was the poster girl for the NHS organ donor campaign and has she received numerous awards including the Great Scot Award, the Freedom of Renfrewshire bestowed by Lord Provost and a Points of Light award from Prime Minister David Cameron for her outstanding charitable work. This week on Inspired Edinburgh we have Mark Cooper. Mark is a motivational speaker, ultra runner, expedition consultant and fundraiser. He originally took up running in 2007 to stop smoking and has since competed in countless events.  In 2010 he completed an expedition across Europe where he ran 50 marathons in 56 days from Amsterdam to Barcelona in memory of his Mum, and raised over £30,000 for The Edinburgh Headway group. He was subsequently awarded the Inspiration Award from Jog Scotland and received letters of support from ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown and former SNP Leader Alex Salmond. Mark’s story is incredibly powerful and inspirational. Over the next four years with the support of others she raised £650,000. This led to her establishing It's Good 2 Give!, a charity that supports young cancer patients and their families which has raised in excess of £1m. In January 2016, aged 30, he became the youngest Brit and the first Scot to ski solo, unsupported and unassisted to the South Pole in Antarctica. He also became the first person in history to ski to the South Pole with an artificial pacemaker which was implanted in 2008 and also the first to do so after undergoing brain surgery in 2014, required to remove a rare enterogenous cyst.
