Listeners of The Confident Single Woman that love the show mention: starr,Today marks my 200th episode of The Confident Single Woman podcast. Today will be my final day. This transition away from my business and the podcast is extremely bittersweet. I know that God led me in this direction of coaching and podcasting, and I do believe he is leading me out of it at this time. I did not make this decision lightly, but I do feel confident it's the right decision for me right now. I don't know if I'll come back to coaching or podcast, or if I'll come back to working with single women or not. I don't know the future, but I do feel that I'm making the right decision for right now. Please listen in to hear more about my story, what's next, and why I'm walking away. In my conversation with AdriAnna, we talk about her life as a single woman, dating woman, and now, newly married woman. You know how people say, “Hindsight is 20/20?” Well, AdriAnna shares incredible insight into her own life as a single-and-searching woman. She knew that she wanted to get married, but at the time she was more concerned with not singled out due to her singleness, especially since practically all the other girls were dating/engaged/married. She grew more and more self-aware during her singleness and from there was able to overcome areas in her life that were holding her back from finding the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. As she went online, over and over again, she eventually met her husband. So tune in today to hear more about her stories, what she's overcome, the advice she wishes she could've given to her single self, and the advice she has for you. On today's episode, I go over 4 different suggestions on how to strengthen your confidence while dating. First, you want to know your standards. You can find my Guide on how to do that here: https://www.StarrBurroughs.com/Standards. Second, you need to know what areas to compromise in and what flaws you're willing to partner with. In my years of listening to and coaching single Christian women, I've learned there are 4 prominent areas that some women fall into that make it very difficult, if not impossible, to get married. These 4 areas are extremely challenging to overcome. It takes deep self-awareness and a gritty determination to break through these roadblocks to love; each area can carry many layers of pain. The top 4 reasons that some women will always remain single are: 1. Severe introvertedness and/or social anxiety. 2. Confusion about who she is and she isn't living out the characteristics that she's looking for in a man. 3. She has very strict barriers on what she is looking for and won't compromise. 4. She thinks of herself more highly than she ought. Romans 12:3 Please tune in and share! Have you ever told yourself, “Well, not everyone gets married!”? People will say that to remind themselves that they aren't alone in their singleness. They say it to make themselves feel better and to remain logical, rather than emotional in their desire for marriage. I'm sure there's many other reasons, but these are the top ones that come to mind. However, when people say this is triggers an unbelief and doubt that rears it's ugly head. It would be considered human reasoning. Unbelief, doubt, and reasoning don't partner well with the power of God. If we need the power of God in our lives to provide breakthrough, we need to operate in a belief that God is all-powerful and able to perform miracles. But how we we believe that when our mind is filled with human reasoning? In fact, 2 Corinthians 10:4 in the NLT says this: We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. What this is say is that our human reasoning and false arguments actually create a stronghold and are considered a proud obstacle that keep us from knowing God. It also says that those thoughts are considered rebellious and we need to teach them to obey Christ. Wow! I'll break this down even more in today's episode and discuss how to pull down strongholds and see breakthrough in your life! The journey of the Perfectionist to the altar can be a long one. Today, I'm talking about the standards a perfectionist has for how she should be treated. There are a few mindsets that are hindering women when they date, meet men, and even after they're already in a relationship. These mindsets start out as innocent, but if we aren't careful they become very self-centered. If you're a perfectionist and are wondering if some of your thought patterns or beliefs are actually hindering you, please tune in to today's episode! The journey of the Perfectionist to the altar can be a long one. Today, I'm talking about the standards a perfectionist has for a man and how it can slow down her progress toward marriage. I truly believe perfectionism is a blind spot many Christians have. Single Christians always want to pursue godly qualities in their search for an amazing Christian man, but what if you're actually being a perfectionist with perfectionistic expectations in your search for the “perfect” husband? Tune in and share especially if you think your standards and attractions are erring on the side of perfectionism. Have you ever run into the same type of guy over and over? And then over and over again? And again? When this happens, you begin to believe that “all men” are ________ (fill in the blank). But that's simply not true because you haven't met “all men,” have you? ;-) As this pattern continues, even Christian women begin thinking … “All guys want is sex!” “How do I stop attracting the wrong men?” “What am I doing wrong?” If you're a successful woman, you may find it difficult to find someone who matches your level of success, or maybe even someone who actually has goals and ambitions. That doesn't seem like too much to ask for when you're 35 years old! On today's episode, I tackle this frustrating topic of what to do when all the guys you're attracting only want sex and/or don't even have the goals or success that you're desiring. I'll go over the difference between attracting these types of men and entertaining them. I'll also explain how to discern if you're being status-driven in your search for the successful, ambitious man or if you're genuinely searching for someone who simply matches your values and work ethic (hint: there's a big difference between searching for status and searching for a man who's respectable and matches your work ethic). Are you the one hindering your progress toward marriage or is it other factors that are slowing you down? Do you find yourself wondering, “Is it my fault I'm single?” or “Why am I not married yet?” As women, we tend to blame ourselves and constantly think about what to fix. However, it's important to accurately diagnose what's hindering your progress toward marriage. Sometimes it is you. Sometimes it's not. But how do you know if it is or isn't? Today, I'm asking questions to help you figure out if you're the common denominator in your singleness or it's it's truly other factors. Or maybe it's a mix of both! I'll give advice on who you can ask to help you determine if you're the one slowing yourself down, how to look at your surroundings and figure out if they're hindering you (and what to do about it!), and how to look inward to see if you have mindset shifts that need to happen. We all understand how important timing is, but do we understand how important being in the right place is? What I've learned to do as a love coach to single christians is to learn more about their surroundings. Is their church a dry and dead atmosphere for potential christ-centered, romantic relationships? Is it never going to happen in their workplace regarding love and marriage? Do they have anyone setting them up or believing for marriage for them? Do they fit into their surroundings? Does anyone ever pursue them or ask them out? Is anyone ever getting asked out? Is their schedule the same day-in and day-out and they're constantly surrounded by dead ends? It's so important to know if you're in the right environment in order for a relationship to begin. On today's episode, I'll go over how to know if you're in the right or wrong place and how to get in the right place! And yes, we'll even cover how to know if you're the common denominator, or if your environment is what's hindering you. We'll even discuss the importance of discerning a wilderness season where nothing visible is happening, but it's the place God has for you for right now. This episode digs deeper into the complexities of singleness, why some women remain single, how our culture impacts our singleness, how sin impacts our singleness, how to know if we need to change or if there's nothing for us to change. Check out today’s episode with my former client, Arlyn, who’s been married for over a year now! Arlyn was the type of woman who genuinely loved her single life (a little too much!), but became a converted skeptic and is now loving married life with her husband. I have so many great questions for her about her single-to-married season: … what her biggest roadblocks were, … how she met her husband, … how she knew he was the right person for her, … and what changes she had to make in order to move toward marriage. I also asked her to share all of the big and small miracles that took place in her life prior to her even meeting her husband. The miracles didn’t stop there though, they continued into their dating relationship! You’ll have to tune in to learn more! Arlyn’s prayer list from January 2019: This year I vow to DO what I CAN do: pray & fast spend time wisely and intentionally be social and friendly trust God obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit operate in faith not fear and believe that God will SUPERNATURALLY do what I cannot do: heal my broken heart provide divine encounters with the right people multiply time and opportunities orchestrate the events of my life The acronym Arlyn referenced was created by Megan Starbuck in her book, Surprised By Marriage: A Cynics Guide To Believing In Love. I interviewed Megan in 2019; you can listen to the episode here: #80: From the Cynical Single to the Optimistic Wife (Part 1) with Megan Starbuck Lysa Terkeurst quote from her book, It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way, page 82: “Wine left on its dregs, not poured from one jar to another, means it’s been sitting in comfort for so long that it has absorbed the aroma of complacency. Winemakers at the time of Jeremiah would pour wine from jar to jar for two reasons. First, so the wine wouldn’t absorb the flavor of the vessel, and second, to rid the wine of the dregs or the sediment that would settle into the bottom and prevent the wine from being pure.” Daniel 2:20-21: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Starr’s Resources: The Marriage-Minded Online Dating Academy: www.StarrBurroughs.com/MODA Get 10% off your first month of Faithful Counseling (Sponsored): https://www.getfaithful.com/confidentsinglewoman Join our free Facebook Community: The Confident Single Woman Starr's Book: The Ineligible Bachelorette: Taking A Hard Look At Why You Haven’t Found The One 7 Questions To Help You Identify Your Standards [Free]: https://www.StarrBurroughs.com/Standards The 7 Most Common Roadblocks To Love [Free]: https://www.StarrBurroughs.com/gift Follow me: Facebook Instagram Email: starr@StarrBurroughs.com

I love my conversation with Yahnathan of The Right To Real Love Radio Podcast. Today, we discuss why Christian men avoid a woman of compromise. He has such great insight into this topic! We talk all what compromise looks like and how men are able to recognize a woman of compromise. We even talk about the types of men who are OK with compromise and those who are not. I ask Yahnathan (Jay) about the process of healing and what that journey looks like, especially as a woman is entering into a relationship. This is an eye-opening conversation that gives us women insight into the different ways a man might think about a woman who is knowingly compromising, trying to end the compromising tendencies as she goes through healing, and the woman who has chosen not to compromise. If you’re looking for dating advice, or advice for singles, then Jonathan Pokluda, former leader of The Porch, is the go-to guy. JP led The Porch for over a decade and grew the ministry to become the largest weekly young adult gathering of it’s kind. In this 2-part series I have some incredible questions for him about singleness, dating, and pre-marriage. I wanted to know all about the biggest lies singles believe, how important physical attraction is, what the most common complaints are among single men and women, how promiscuous behavior effects someone’s marriage, what red flags to look out for, and so much more! He answers these questions in this 2-part series, but also coves these topics in his new book, Outdated: Find Love That Lasts When Dating Has Changed. We even talk about his passion behind this book and his hopes that it will be a leading influence in changing the current dating culture for today’s singles. New Year, New Miracles! Listen in as I talk through my journey of receiving God’s confirmations and miracles that eventually led to our move out of California. In looking back, I cover so many details of God’s intricate design … all the things that set us up for the future, which is where we’re at now. It’s amazing how God works, how He aligns things to work out perfectly, and how He truly does have the perfect timing (though it’s rarely our timing). I learned in this process of receiving from God, that there is an intense amount of trust, faith, and obedience that is put to the test prior to the manifestation of His miracles. So, join me as I journey through my recent past and process out loud the guidance I received from God during a difficult season of life! New Year, New Miracles! My Journey from Singleness to Marriage with My Husband! This was a really fun episode to record as I got to interview and talk with my husband, Sean Burroughs. We share our individual stories of how God showed up in our lives when we were single. I had to overcome my obstacles of fear, worry, and doubts and learn to trust God and allow Him to open up my heart. Sean had to learn to endure, seek God, and listen in order to get direction from Him. We both had to examine our hearts and were able to this through godly mentorship, fasting, and lots of prayer. New Year, New Miracles! I’m excited for this new, short series all about the personal miracles I’ve experienced in the recent years!! I was inspired to do this series in the hopes that I could encourage women to believe for a miracle when it comes to getting married. When you hear about other people’s miracles it helps you believe for your own, increasing your expectation for the supernatural power of God in your life. In this particular episode, I share the small and big miracles that happened in my life that led to me starting my business as a Christian Love Coach. I also cover what was required of me in order to see those miracles come to pass. It wasn’t just about receiving the miracles from God, it was about praying, listening, surrendering, obeying and enduring that led to the manifestation of those miracles. If you’re needing a miracle, and encouragement in the process, please tune in! Is Your Identity, Destiny, and Vision Wrapped Up In Your Future Husband? I’m a huge advocate of women walking into their purpose and seeing God fulfill a long-term dream of theirs of becoming that wife that they’ve prayed so long for! However, what I’ve seen in conjunction with that ambition is an idolization or an obsession with the gift that God has for them, rather than God Himself. So how do you not idolize a future husband, making decisions with him in mind, and making everything you do or don’t do about this future role of “wife?” I’m glad you asked! In this episode, I’ll talk about how to know if you’re becoming too consumed with the idea of a future husband and future marriage. I’ll explain what it means to keep God as GOD in your life and not allow a future husband to become your God. I’ll also discuss the importance of anchoring your life and hope to God himself, and not the gift or the dream fulfilled. As you go into the new year, you’ll have clarity on how to discover your identity, destiny, and vision as a daughter of God, not as a future wife. Tune in today and share! Women these days seem pretty good at recognizing red flags. Whether they decided to deal with them or not, is up to them. But, overall, single women who are serious about marriage are serious about paying attention to red flags! If you’re wanting to get married and are careful about who you’re choosing to spend your time with, then you’ll want to check out today’s episode. I’ve been pondering why women don’t seem to notice, or maybe care, about this big red flag that is so, so easily overlooked. It’s almost as if people have blinders on and don’t even notice it … so much so, that they repeat the same mistake in the next relationship. I want to shed light on this red flag that women are allowing into their dating lives without even realizing it. I’ll go over what this big, overlooked red flag is, how to recognize it, what to do about it, and how to NOT deal with it again! Tune in to today and share with a friend! Have you ever wondered how to get a guy to approach you? How to get a guy to ask you out? How to get a guy to pursue you? Well, those are the questions I’ll be answering on today’s episode! There are so many different reasons why some men aren’t asking women out. Oftentimes, it can be due to the church culture you’re in, the current environment you’re in, or because you simply don’t have opportunity to be in social settings right now. However, there are also some more hidden reasons as to why you may not be approached by men. Those reasons have much more to do with our attitude, how we’re perceived, and our behavior. So, today I want to talk about 5 different things you can do to get approached and even encourage pursuit. Tune in and share! On today’s episode I talk about 5 different ways you can enjoy your singleness while on your way to marriage. So, if you’re ready to take action and do things differently in order to find more enjoyment in your day-to-day life, please tune in! Can you tell me about a time when you had difficulty knowing WHEN or IF you should call it off with that guy you just started talking to? Or if you should say no to the next date (or maybe even cancel it)? I bet you can! This area of knowing when to walk away can be more difficult than it seems. It’s not always black and white. There are a lot of little nuances in a new relationship that can make discernment a bit challenging. In today’s episode, I cover 5 practical tips on how to know when you should call it off. I’ll also cover those gray areas so you know how to discern for yourself what the right thing to do is and when! Is marriage hard? Like, really hard? Why is marriage hard? Well, that’s the question I’m going to tackle today. Many married people have said marriage is hard, and I’m sure I have as well. When a single person hears this, she either dismisses the person saying it because she doesn’t respect that person, or maybe thinks that person has something unique in their marriage that makes it hard (that the single person won’t have to go through). Or, conversely, the single person hears this and wonders if marriage will even be worth it. Does she want marriage more than being single? Could her single life be better than the unknowns of a married life? Both strings of thought can be hindrances in the process toward marriage. What I want to share is that marriage can be hard, and it likely will be hard at time, but I do not believe it should always be hard! Like, permanently … during the entire marriage! Today, I’ll share some of my personal stories from being married for 10 years! I also talk about what makes a marriage hard and how some of those challenges can be alleviated. Tune in and share! Have you ever had the thought when the right person comes along, then … Or told yourself that you’ll lose weight when … If you have, like countless others, then you likely know the feeling of waiting for something or someone to motivate you to do what you want to do anyways! The problem is that we often need to ACT FIRST in order to receive what we really want. We may need to slow down the upward trajectory in our career because it’s taking up all of our mental space; so much so that we don’t have a time for a relationship. Or we may need to finally begin our counseling journey in order to receive the healthy man that we know we deserve. You see, we need to act first in order to get what we really want. The challenge is that we won’t always KNOW if we’re going to get that thing, or person, we want. So it can feel defeating if we’re doing all the acting and not yet doing any of the receiving. We can easily remain stuck for years with the backwards mentality of, “When I have this, then I’ll change that.” Ultimately, the principle holds true that we act first, then receive. Tune in today to learn how to act first so that you can receive what you want! As a single woman, how do you prepare for marriage? Do you have to be the Proverbs 31 woman? Do you have to be healed of all your baggage? Do you have to love yourself to the moon at back? Though some of the above would be great to have and be, it doesn’t have to be that intense! In this episode, I go over 4 different strategies that can be implemented immediately, with or without a man by your side. These 4 strategies will help you better prepare for marriage, become the woman you want to be, and attract the man you want. Nothing and no one has to be perfect for marriage, but there’s no harm in preparing for it! Tune in and learn how to better prepare for marriage as a single woman. Today, I’ll be discussing one main question I asked my husband shifted the direction of his life (his words!). This question is the same question I’d ask you on your journey toward marriage. It’s a question that will force you to think about where you stand with your convictions, your standards, and your vision. I’ll be discussing what it looks like to surrender your search to God and submit to His vision. This is such an important piece that can easily become neglected when we’re on our way to fulfilling God’s plan for our lives. Tune in!!
