What's for dinner? A handful of grated cheese? Some olives and a croissant? A whole crab, eaten in bed? This one goes out to all the exhausted girlies who can't be arsed to cook. What wonders emerge when women find moments of freedom from compulsory and unpaid domestic labour? Ladies, gentlemen and nonbinary pals, welcome to the cursed/blessed super-trend that was, and is, GIRL DINNER. This week Dan and Kasia are joined by a very special guest, writer and academic Eli Davies, whose authorial debut The Spinster Cookbook is published today! Together we ask: is ‘girl dinner' infantilising, or a moment of feminist liberation? How do people eat differently when their lives are affected by chaos, stress and being a bit ‘goblin-like' – and why might Girl Dinner offer a relief, and comfort, when life feels unrelenting? And how does it intersect with gendered notions of ‘what women should eat' – are women still performing a role in service of patriarchy if there are just a few chaotic scraps on the plate, and no protein? We talk about the meaning of the word 'spinster' - and why Eli thinks it is preferable to ‘single'. And ask the vital question: was the Ploughman's Lunch the original girl dinner? Also: “What about ‘mum dinner'?”, as Laura Thomas asked in a recent essay? Buy THE SPINSTER COOKBOOK: Culture, Politics and Pleasure in the Single Woman's Kitchen – which is OUT NOW. It's a book which draws on Bridget Jones, Annie Ernaux, Sex and the City and Doris Lessing with equal enthusiasm, along with Nigel and Nigella, Delia and Jamie. And we love it. Happy Wednesday EICarrot cakes! This week we're tackling, maybe the only downside to being single for women? Glamour columnist Chante Joseph, known for her viral Boyfriends Are Embarrassing piece, published a recent piece titled ‘Is the ‘single woman tax' going to cost me my future?' In it she dives into the very real financial burden of not being coupled up.In the piece she speaks to Renée Sylvestre-Williams, the author of The Singles Tax: No-Nonsense Financial Advice for Solo Earners, who defines the ‘singles tax' as the “financial penalty that single people are paying as a result of a society that has primarily focused on ‘the couple'.” She has some galling figures including the fact that retirement costs 44% more than for those in a couple. And if you're single in London, you're paying over £20,000 a year on living and lifestyle costs. She links this to the increased Hinge prompts joking about splitting rent and the fact that women are being encouraged to find a 6ft banker to couple up with. We dissect this dire situation ,with your help! Thank you! We hope you enjoy. I interview Curly Vixen about a recent multi-day swinger hotel takeover in Niagara Falls, Canada March 2026 run by C &R. She attended as a single woman unicorn, split a room with two other women to cut costs, and describes the event setup: a potluck, an eighth-floor party corridor with open-door rooms, loud music, and informal activities like poker, coffee invitations, door prizes, a clothing/lingerie swap, and a themed Saturday night. Curly shares two play experiences: a Friday hookup where condoms were unavailable so sex didn't happen, and a Saturday threesome with a couple involving a hot tub, toys, and strong chemistry; she also rode a sybian in a communal room. She recommends packing supplies, bringing things to share, and keeping expectations open. *description written with the help of AI* Content mentioned in this episode: 1. In this episode, I delve into the misconceptions about single women in the swinger lifestyle. Inspired by my friend DTF Tanya, I realized that not all single women are unicorns looking to hook up with couples. In this episode, we're getting real about the kind of holiday hurt no one talks about — the moment you're surrounded by family and still feel invisible. When traditions change without you, everyone else is coupling up or having kids, and you're left navigating a season that doesn't feel like yours anymore. And in the middle of all that tenderness, the urge to text your ex creeps in… not because you want him, but because you want to feel seen. We talk about why these emotions hit so hard, how to tell the difference between loneliness and longing, and what it looks like to hold yourself when old wounds resurface. If this holiday season has made you feel left out, behind, or tempted to reach back for the wrong person, this episode will meet you right where you are.Stay connected here Connect with me on Instagram Please email me here: Lauren@ohyeahcoaching.comApply for coaching HEREWould You Date You? Come with me to the first unicorn night at Oasis since COVID. No single men were allowed, only couples and single women. Was it a mystical experience as a single woman amongst a bunch of sexy couples? Or was it a third wheel experience? Come with me to find out.
For hundreds of years women were treated as somehow incomplete, or dangerous, if they didn't have a (male) partner. It used to be illegal for women to live alone in some parts of the UK and, until much more recently, single women weren't allowed mortgages. And then there's the cat lady stereotype. Amanda Vickery, professor of history at Queen Mary University of London, tells Adam Fleming how the stigma around women's singledom has evolved, and how it's fading.

This one's personal. It's a love letter, a pep talk, and a little bit of a call-out. After being single for a long time (hi, 7 years), I've learned that confidence doesn't come from someone choosing you—it comes from building a life that turns you on without waiting for them to show up. In this episode, I'm walking you through 10 things every single woman needs—not to get the guy, but to feel alive, grounded, and fucking proud of the life she's creating. From vibrators to rituals, girlfriends to guilty pleasures, we're going there. This isn't about becoming better. It's about becoming you. More fully, more unapologetically, more deliciously than ever before. So pour the wine in the real glass. Light the candle. And press play. Even with careful planning, none of us can predict how our path to motherhood will unfold. When we last spoke with Tara Resnick, she was preparing for another egg retrieval and left us with quite the cliffhanger. Today, she's back to share the next chapter of her journey toward solo motherhood. In this conversation, Tara speaks with honesty and vulnerability about the setbacks she's faced—multiple egg retrievals, the financial strain of treatment, and the deep emotional toll of pursuing IVF as a single woman at 42. She also opens up about the regrets she carries: wishing she had pursued IVF or at least frozen eggs earlier, and staying in relationships longer than she now wishes she had. What makes Tara's story so powerful is not a picture-perfect narrative, but her willingness to share the messy middle—the heartbreak, the resilience it takes to keep going, and the importance of self-compassion when the outcome is still unknown.Tara's reminder for all of us: resilience isn't about toxic positivity. It's about choosing yourself, holding onto hope, and finding peace even in the hardest seasons.“Choose yourself, always.” – Tara ResnickIf you've ever wondered what it's really like to walk through IVF on your own—the ups, the setbacks, the financial and emotional weight—I hope this conversation will make you feel less alone. In this episode, we discuss:Tara's second and third egg retrievals, including the unexpected decision to pursue a Duo Stim cycleThe financial and emotional impact of IVF as a single womanThe vulnerability of navigating fertility treatments without a partnerReceiving difficult PGT results and the decision to transfer an untested embryoHow to balance hope and grief without falling into toxic positivityWhy Tara believes trying was still the right choice for her, no matter the outcomeAnd moreConnect with Tara: Instagram | @TaraLaurennnSimple Coaching for Health & Weight LossEvolve with Tara: Solution Focused Coaching

Fanny shares her journey into social work and how her personal experiences as an eldest daughter shaped her trauma-informed approach. She highlights the unique emotional challenges that firstborn daughters face—especially perfectionism, anxiety, and depression—and how these intersect with systemic pressures around relationships, marriage, and motherhood. Together, Deborah and Fanny dive deep into the colonized mindsets around love, self-worth, and gender roles. Fanny explains how women often internalize shame or a sense of being "behind" when single in their 30s or 40s, and why therapy shouldn't always be about diagnosing but about creating supportive, holistic environments where women can thrive. Fanny also discusses how her platform, Her Soul Supply, offers live masterclasses, retreats (like her recent one in Oaxaca, Mexico), and group coaching for single Black and Brown women to heal, explore their identity, and form intentional sisterhood. This episode is a rich, unfiltered reminder that: You don't have to be chosen to be worthy. Softness requires safety. Sisterhood heals. Healing is political.

In this wonderful episode, LDF host Dan Wotherspoon introduces two powerful Mormon women who just happen to be single. They are Diana Brown and Mallory Everton, and they are now talking about many, many aspects of what that means on their podcast, "The Soloists." In this conversation, they speak open-heartedly about their lives, including their feelings about how their paths look different from what they had imagined as teenagers and young adults. They talk about early concerns about whether they were not worthy in some way to be partnered up, or if they had done something wrong along the way that kept them from being married. But the journey they share about here has led them past such concerns, noting how their singleness has taught them so much about themselves, and led them to deep reflection and spiritual sensibilities that they might not have found had their lives followed "The Plan." They also share about their relationships with the LDS Church and community, God, what they struggle with, how it has affected their dating lives, and what keeps them tethered to the faith tradition they were raised in. They are remarkable, and this is an episode you should listen to whether you or a loved one is single within the church. The spiritual insights here stand firmly on their own. Check it out!
