The Daily Mets Podcast
It all ends the way it started in '18; with Noah Syndergaard on the mound at CitiField pitching well. Mets win to wrap up the year; Josh recaps the day and the season, with commentary from COO Jeff Wilpon and manager Mickey Callaway. Thank you for the downloads all year, guys!!! #LGM
All David, all the time. Hear the farewell speech. Hear the post game press conference. Josh takes you through a memorable (late) night at Citi Field that includes a 1-0 13 inning win and a new arch-villian. (A guy who had the NERVE to catch a David Wright foul out in his final Major League AB.)
854 days in the making, David Wright returned for his second-to-last appearance as a Major Leaguer. The fans went crazy; David spoke about it after the game, and Mickey Callaway weighed in on the lackluster 8-1 loss to Miami. Josh recorded the podcast during halftime of the UCLA-Colorado game in Boulder; you'll love the band.
Best part of the 4-1 win against Atlanta? Right. The candy corn and cake at Gary Cohen's 30th Anniversary As A Met celebration before the game. (Is candy corn considered a vegetable?) Jason Vargas steamrolls the Braves, two catchers launch long home runs, and the Mets get to within 9 of .500. Josh explores these topics and wonders when David Wright will bat.
Engrave his name on the Cy Young Award now. Jacob deGrom goes eight, retires the final 20 he faces, the Mets hit just enough and all is right with the world. Josh gives you more than a dozen wacky deGrom stats, all with the same theme -- why was is this hard to get this guy a winning record??? deGrom speaks about his accomplishments and Mickey Callaway adds his 2/5 of a nickel.
#5 is alive! And speaking to the media upon his reinstatement to the Mets roster. David Wright sound, John Ricco sound, the plan for David unveiled... oh, and the Mets lost 7-3 to Atlanta, and Mickey Callaway explains why Noah Syndergaard left after 89 pitches and a 3-0 lead.
With the Mets off on Monday, Josh rolls out interviews with top Mets prospects. Justin Dunn and David Peterson highlight the DMP and there's a brief lookahead to the homestand as well. Only six podcasts to go for '18 :/
In a game that set the sport back several years, the Mets and Nats slog through 4 1/4 hours of walk-filled baseball on a soggy Sunday; Josh tells you how bad it got, warms your heart with more good news about "Real Deal" McNeil and offers opinion on which Met(s) could use a change of scenery.
Harry Doyle said it best in Major League and Saturday the Mets indeed got one hit off a guy whose last name look likes a typo. Josh reviews what went wrong (including his misunderstanding of "Faith Day"), looks ahead to the series finale, and invokes a song you forgot you knew from Sesame Street. Also, Mickey Callaway speaks.
Get your tux pressed, Jacob. Barring something totally goofy, you'll be accepting the Cy Young Award at the Baseball Writers Dinner this coming January. Lowering his ERA to 1.77, deGrom evens his record at 9-9 as the Mets beat the Nationals. Josh sums up deGrom's credentials, Mickey Callaway explains why he pulled Jake after 88 pitches, and there's a preview of today's game too.
Bryce Harper gets ejected as does Mickey Callaway... eventually the Mets win in 12. Open the beer fridges! Oh, wait, that's for the Browns. Well, celebrate anyway, since the Mets are now 9-7 vs the Nats this year and have deGrom on the mound tonight. Details once you hit the play button.
The Mets get shutout, Noah Syndergaard falters, but at least there's a really cool version of Take Me Out To The Ballgame. Zack Eflin and the Phils bullpen takes care of business... Josh reviews, Mickey Callaway analyzes and Josh reminds you of some pitchers who have been ever worse than tonight's Mets starter Jason Vargas.
Mets lose 5-2, but Josh has insight on why "a triple shy of the cycle" is way overrated, how good Steven Matz has been so good of late, how hard Jeff McNeil has hit Philly, and how much money he's left on the table by not having a RiteAid card. Also, Mickey Callaway talks about the frustrations of letting a lead get away.
Barring a meltdown of nuclear proportions, Atlanta will win the NL East, thanks in large measure to the Mets' dominance of the Phils. Josh recalls some epic collapses just in case, but mostly throws dirt on the Phillies' 2018 headstone... Michael Conforto's season put in perspective, Mickey Callaway on whether or not Zack Wheeler will be shut down.
Ever wonder where Josh gets all those awesome stats? No? well, you'll find out anyway on todays' podcast. Also, a review of deGrom's 12 strikeout performance that somehow did NOT help his Cy Young candidacy... a look at the Philly series, and random observations from the weekend from Mickey Callaway.
The Mets lose in Boston but there's sound from John Franco AND Mickey Callaway so this is still a podcast worth your time. #SweetCaroline

Jam packed podcast for ya.
Rainy days and Mondays always get us down. The Mets were rained out Monday (doubleheader Wednesday now) so once again, Jacob deGrom doesn't get a chance to pitch. Josh has an interview with Todd Zeile to keep you occupied and does an almost painfully deep dive on how bad it's gotten for the Mets when it comes to hitting for average at home. Stay dry.
A soggy Sunday means deGrom doen't pitch but almost everybody else does... and it's enough to beat the Phillies and put dent in their playoff hopes. Josh reviews it, gives you National Anthem intrigue, sings the praises of Conforto, and looks ahead to deGrom vs Miami. And, of course, Mickey Callaway tells you who's in a good spot.
Josh almost gets locked overnight in an airport, but finishes of the podcast after the Mets beat the Phillies behind a spotty 11th win from Syndergaard. Josh talks very little about his trip to Norman, OK for football and quite a lot about Jacob deGrom's Cy Young chances. Injury updates from Mickey Callaway... the greatness of both Bud Harrelson and David Wright discussed. All done from a Boingo Wireless airport hotspot.

A Dodger scored from second on a wild pitch. Jay Bruce let a fly ball fall at his feet. Josh gets exasperated, Mickey Callaway tries to stay positive and the series finale is previewed. There is also a fart joke,
"I Love LA" fails to play at Dodger Stadium thanks to smiling spoilsport Brandon Nimmo. His 3-run pinch hit 9th inning homer wins it, although once again, Jacob deGrom gets a no decision, Josh has interesting tidbits on Nimmo's Cy Young Award worthy season, explores the magic of Nimmo and previews game two of the series; Mickey Callaway loves his starting pitching and tells you about it.
