Johnny Mize is the answer to one of baseball's great trivia questions. You have to listen to find out what it is, but trust me, it's one of Major League Baseball's great statistics, something not even legends such as Babe Ruth, Henry Aaron, or Willie Mays can lay claim to. Mize had a terrific eye at the plate, especially for a power hitter. For his career, he hit 359 homeruns, had a career batting average of .312, and a career OPS of .959. Yet, one could argue, his career was overlooked. This could be because when he played for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants, neither team made it to the post-season. Plus, Mize missed three of his prime years when he served during World War II in 1943, 1944, and 1945. The "Big Cat's" most notable years, however, just might have been the final five when he moved into a part-time role with the New York Yankees and he contributed to one of the game's greatest dynasties when the Bronx Bombers won five straight World Series, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, and 1953. On this episode of Sports' Forgotten Heroes, I take a look back at the career of Johnny Mize with special guest Jerry Grillo who wrote the book, "Big Cat, The Life of Baseball Hall of Famer Jonny Mize."
Tired of watching the New York Yankees turn into a band of slapstick comedians at the plate? Does your blood boil as they leave more runners stranded than a desert island reality show? Then buckle up, buttercup, because this podcast is your safe space for all the over-the-top, rage-fueled rants about how the Bronx Bombers' bats have gone MIA! We're talking catastrophic at-bats, baffling decisions, and a lineup that swings for the fences and usually just hits air. Get ready to laugh 'til you cry (or just cry) as we dissect every agonizing moment of Yankee offensive futility!
Get ready for the BT & Sal Show, where the guys tackle the burning question: Do the Yankees even remember how to score a run? Join Sal as he hilariously, and perhaps a little too intensely, dissects the baffling inability of the Bronx Bombers to cross home plate, even with a literal ghost runner practically handing them a win. If you've ever yelled at your TV because your team forgot how to play small ball, this episode's for you!
Get ready for a no-holds-barred take on the New York Yankees with Sal Licata! Fresh off their frustrating shutout loss, Sal dissects the team's ongoing offensive struggles, questions the development of young talent, and ignites a fiery debate on whether this Yankees squad is truly better than last year's. Expect unfiltered opinions, passionate callers, and a deep dive into why the Bronx Bombers continue to fall short of championship expectations.
Did the Yankees just bury themselves against the Red Sox? After a disastrous weekend series highlighted by sloppy play, baserunning blunders, and an anemic offense, New York is reeling. Is Aaron Judge's slump a sign of deeper issues, or will the return of Stanton and Cole save the season? Dive into the fiery debate as we break down what went wrong and whether the Bronx Bombers can recover from this shocking meltdown.
BT and Sal dissect the Yankees' disastrous weekend sweep by the Red Sox, a performance riddled with atrocious fundamentals and a stalled offense whenever Aaron Judge isn't mashing. While BT tries to temper the panic, chalking it up to a singular, ugly anomaly in a long season for an otherwise "buttoned-up" team, Sal sees deeper, concerning issues in the lineup's depth and a worrying trend against AL East rivals, leaving listeners to ponder if this was just a blip or a sign of deeper trouble for the Bronx Bombers.
The Yankees are stacked, maybe TOO stacked! Giancarlo Stanton's return has sparked a fiery debate: Is this an embarrassment of riches or a ticking time bomb for Aaron Boone's managerial decisions? We're diving deep into the Bronx Bombers' lineup, breaking down who stays, who goes, and if having too many power bats will ultimately derail their World Series dreams.
This past weekend saw the latest chapter in the greatest rivalry in baseball as the Boston Red Sox took on the New York Yankees in the Bronx. While there never needs to be an extra level of competitiveness between the two clubs, Sunday's starter for Boston gave the Bronx Bombers a little extra incentive to try to show him up. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about Hunter Dobbins' absurd comment that made headlines about retiring before signing with the Yankees right before he went on to have a solid outing in the Red Sox's series-clinching game. The guys then discuss why Boston's performance this weekend was extremely frustrating to watch, even though they won two out of three in the Bronx. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan discuss whether we saw a World Series preview this past weekend when the Chicago Cubs took their series against the Detroit Tigers, why they're really excited to see what Buster Posey does at the trade deadline after the San Francisco Giants made another statement sweep against the Atlanta Braves and whether Corbin Burnes getting Tommy John surgery might actually work out in the Arizona Diamondbacks' favor—for now.(2:25) – How Sweep It Is(15:32) – Pirates and Mets complete sweeps(30:59) – Red Sox best Yankees(41:58) – World Series preview?(52:06) – Kind of a Big Deal: Corbin Burnes gets surgery(57:23) – Turbo Mode recap Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

The Yankees new bats have them breaking records, we explore what the bats are and what the future will look like for the Bronx Bombers.
Send us a textIt's not really been a week in baseball but the Dodgers & Cubs have played 5 games now (Dodgers have won them all and are on a path to be undefeated) so that's close to a week. There are no narratives written in March for MLB teams. That goes for April too although teams will be almost 30 games into the season when April ends. #Yankees Aaron Judge was on a pace for nearly 500 RBIs this season when he had 11 RBIs in his first 11 ABs. That goes with his 4 home runs in three games putting him second to Adrian Gonzalez for most homers in a season's first 3 games. Judge hit 3 HRs Saturday to become the 4th Yankee to do that including Babe Ruth and A-Rod. Lou Gehrig surpassed that with (4) 3-HR games! The Yankees spanked the #Brewers and gave Nestor Cortes a bad reception at Yankee Stadium in his first game pitching for the Brewers. It was a game in which the Bronx Bombers hit 9 home runs. Shohei is hitting homers. Mookie Betts is back in the lineup and the 2024 World Series combatants are a combined 8-0 in 2025. We pick who we think will win MLB awards this season. Rookie-of-the-Year, Cy Young, MVP, and Manager of the Year for both leagues. It's not as easy as it sounds after Ohtani! Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! The Yankees unveiled a new style of baseball bat against the Milwaukee Brewers, and it paid off handsomely as the Bronx Bombers hit 15 home runs in three games en route to the series sweep
On the eve of Opening Day, Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker begin the show by sifting through Manager John Schneider's press conference. They dive into their expectations for the Blue Jays in 2025, as well as the latest on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s contract negotiations. Later, Emmanuel Berbari (28:05), Yankees broadcaster on WFAN, checks in from New York to share his read on the Bronx Bombers. He chats about the state of the roster with Gerrit Cole sidelined for the season, if the rest rotation can pick up the slack, and how the team can rebound from the loss of Juan Soto. Emmanuel also looks into Jazz Chisholm's importance, Oswaldo Cabrera's job security, the Yanks' bullpen arms to watch, Paul Goldschmidt's veteran presence, and more! From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): Down from Fort Myers, its the final non-Red Sox preview of the AL East as Gordo, Sammy, and Pat dive into the New York Yankees outlook for the 2025 season. Does the Yankees' lineup intimidate or scare anyone now that Juan Soto is gone leaving Aaron Judge as the only power threat? Also, can Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt rediscover their prime years to help the lineup out? Then, the starting rotation could be ranked among the best, but not having Gerrit Cole or Luis Gil could knock them down the ranks. And, the bullpen may be the strongest asset from the Bronx Bombers, but that doesn't stop Gordo from making a wild win prediction. Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees struck again in their post-Juan Soto pivot, this time acquiring former MVP Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs. While pitching has been at the forefront for the Bronx Bombers so far this offseason, acquiring the two-time All-Star slugger is the first move in trying to assemble an offensive lineup that Cashman hopes will get the Yankees back to the Fall Classic in 2025.Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the deal, which many thought was inevitable, why Yankee fans should temper their offensive expectations for Bellinger and why the Cubs were more than happy to dump his salary after acquiring Kyle Tucker. The guys also try to figure out where the Yankees will play the Gold Glove winner, since they have needs in the outfield and at first base and why New York needs to make more moves to avoid this offseason being declared a failure. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake & Jordan break down the report issued by MLB on their findings regarding the elbow injury epidemic currently facing the game.
