San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and had a very low pitch count, yet the bullpen was up as the inning began. Indeed, the Giants are monitoring Webb's workload for the rest of the season. And it's an easily defensive move for Gabe Kapler and the SF Giants considering the team's position in the standings and the fact that Webb has never thrown this many innings in a season. The Giants have made several roster moves in recent days. Jharel Cotton was claimed off waivers and is active for today's game and will likely pitch bulk inning for the Giants. Shelby Miller was also called up, with Cole Waites sent down. Jason Vosler is getting another opportunity and he tripled in the Giants' win last night. Several of the bullpen auditions for the Giants have had really nice showings in September. Lewis Brinson was designated for assignment.BetOnline released odds for Aaron Judge's and Trea Turner's next team, if they leave their current teams. David Villar was the best hitter in his league in 2021 and 2022. He mashed 27 home runs in just 84 games for the Sacramento River Cats this season. Villar's first cameo with the San Francisco Giants, in July, didn't go particularly well. But Villar burst out in a big way during the weekend against the Dodgers.Villar hit three home runs in the series, including two in the finale and one against Clayton Kershaw. He's an important player to watch for the SF Giants over the last month of the season, as he could be a part of their future. With the Giants all but out of playoff contention, the rest of this season should be about auditioning future pieces, and Villar is first on that list. Lewis Brinson is another guy to watch, and he too had a huge series in Los Angeles.Several bullpen arms for the Giants are also new and worth watching over the final four weeks. Luis Ortiz was added to the Giants' roster on Wednesday. Shelby Miller is in Milwaukee and may be added. Alex Young and Scott Alexander have been in the 'pen for a while now and could be future pieces. The Giants' season is now about watching how all of these new players perform, as they are auditioning for roles on next year's SF Giants team.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Let's face it. It's getting harder and harder to talk about the Giants. But at least there's Lewis Brinson. On the cocktail side, Matthew introduces some bastards and Ben drinks a slushy while arguing that Lewis Brinson on this team is not a good thing, how it reflects on the state of the upper minors and whether the lack of spending in the Zaidi era has now backed him into a corner.

Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
Are the San Francisco Giants actually having fun? More importantly, are fans actually having fun watching them? It's been a frustrating season for the SF Giants, but their play in September has been a breath of fresh air. Lewis Brinson has provided a spark this month, and he had his best game yet on Monday. Brinson slugged two homers against Dodgers pitching, and J.D. Davis, David Villar, and Thairo Estrada also went deep for the Giants. It was just the third time in franchise history that the Giants hit five or more home runs in Dodger Stadium. All four players who homered are under club control for at least two more seasons. Brinson will be first-year arbitration eligible after 2022. Estrada and Villar have five-plus years of club control. J.D. Davis has a couple of arb years remaining. It's why September is such an important month for Giants such as Brinson and Villar. They're auditioning to be a part of next year's team. Villar absolutely destroyed Triple-A this year so it was nice to see him have a good game with the San Francisco Giants. Gabe Kapler took him out for defensive purposes somewhat early in the game, which was somewhat controversial, but the move immediately paid off with a great relay with Bryce Johnson moved to left field as part of the substitution.Wilmer Flores' Sunday walk-off and impending free agency are discussed. Although the Giants need to get younger and more athletic, generally speaking, Flores has been a great Giant and it's hard to see them letting him leave in free agency. There is hopefully mutual interest. Joc Pederson is another guy who is an impending free agent they may bring back. And how about that bad dude Carlos Rodón? This year may have been a disappointment on the whole, but lots of players have had very nice seasons, and a few of them have uncertain futures with the Giants.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
While it's almost certainly too little too late, it was nice to see the San Francisco Giants play well and show signs of life. Wilmer Flores hit a thrilling walk-off to seal the Giants' sweep of the Phillies. Carlos Rodón was a big bad dude on the mound and racked up his ninth 10+ strikeout game, tying a franchise record. The offense exploded in the series opener, and Alex Cobb continued to be excellent. Cobb, who was so unlucky early in the season, has seen his results-based numbers rebound in a major way. Another win for the underlying numbers...There were several key injury updates over the weekend. SF Giants first baseman Brandon Belt had season-ending knee surgery. Belt is a free agent at the end of the year and it remains to be seen whether he's played his final game in a Giants uniform. Lefty reliever José Álvarez had Tommy John surgery and will miss all of 2023. Álvarez was very good for the Giants last season, but this year was a struggle and it's his last year under contract. Alex Wood has a left shoulder impingement and might be done for the season. He's given up a ton of runs since first dealing with the injury in mid-August. It wasn't a very good second season in San Francisco for Wood, who has an ERA in the 5's. But the underlying metrics suggest he deserved better.Lewis Brinson made his San Francisco Giants debut and collected a couple of hits. The Giants and manager Gabe Kapler used their bench aggressively over the weekend, something they've been able to do more with rosters expanded to 28 from 26. Last year, as a residual effect of the covid-shortened 2020 season, teams had 28-man rosters all season. It was perhaps an underrated reason why the Giants were able to be so successful with pinch hitting, platoons, and matchups. Aaron Judge's impending free agency, and the likelihood of the slugger landing with the Giants, is also discussed.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

The San Francisco Giants added another key prospect from the 2018 Christian Yelich trade. Lewis Brinson, the centerpiece of that deal, was acquired by the Giants yesterday in a trade with the Houston Astros. Brinson was immediately added to the 40-man roster and called up to the major leagues. Now that he's on the 40-man, he is under club control for three seasons via arbitration. If he has a good September and/or Spring Training, he could certainly be on the 2023 team. In other words, Brinson is auditioning for the Giants from here on out. What Giants on expiring deals will be back next year? Farhan Zaidi said on KNBR yesterday that there's interest in bringing back Joc Pederson. If Pederson is retained by the Giants, that would seemingly have a ripple effect in that it could eliminate another platoon. The Giants clearly need more everyday players, and Joc Pederson is a strict platoon player. Wilmer Flores is another Giants player who could/should be brought back, and the most important player might be Carlos Rodón.Who's the most surprising current Giants player who might not be back next year? The answer is probably Mike Yastrzemski or LaMonte Wade Jr. It hasn't been a good year for either Giants lefty, and Wade in particular is probably running out of chances. Both are platoon players, and especially if Joc Pederson is re-signed it might mean at least one of those two will not be on the 2023 roster.Honest assessments of Giants manager Gabe Kapler and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi are also discussed on today's show.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:
