Shadows. Horn. Blood. Fire. Albrun. In the 15th century in the desolate Alps mountains lives a woman deemed a witch by the local townsfolk. Bound to a life not chosen, she births a daughter, Albrun, who grows up with the confusing accusations and religious persecutions of the era. With little understanding to the underlying illness her mother's body is ridden with, Albrun is soon left to rely on the mountainside as her mother did before her, facing similar obstacles when many years later, she conceives a daughter of her own. Hear with my ears and speak with my tongue, I invite you to come. Pyewacket. Grief-ridden teen Leah is trying to find her place after a serious tragedy turned her life upside down. She relies on her circle of friends who all partake in the occult and black magick as a way of coping with their daily tensions. When the kettle in her home life boils over, she foolishly casts a spell calling upon the energy of Pyewacket to fulfill her sinister wish to end her problems indefinitely. Unbeknownst to Leah, someone is listening and is willing to carry out even her most horrible of desires. Pyewacket. Another treasure filmed right here in Ontario, Canadian director Adam Macdonald selected his cast perfectly with Nicole Munez starring as daughter Leah Reyes and our familiar friend 'Mrs. Reyes' from The Walking Dead, Laurie Holden (TWD: Andrea.) Together they create the perfect atmosphere of a dysfunctional family while engaging in a realistic palette of emotions, never letting up the heavy tone for long. Jen and I are certain with the accuracy of the ritual in the film that Adam Macdonald must be a witch. What do you think? Pyewacket. Be careful what you wish for. Someone might be listening. Once inhabited by the Crain Family, a building paranormal phenomena forces them to flee Hill House, dividing their potential for a simple happily ever after. 26 years later Hill House beckons the Crain Family back, ready to reveal it's true self. Loosely based on the 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Mike Flanagan directed the television series parading a strong cast of two age groups that created a chilling and relatable ghost story. "Can I ask you a question? Does it hurt to be dead?" A washed-up rockstar living a mundane life, Tom, begins suffering visions after being hypnotized at a house party. The visions soon lead to a string of unanswered questions surrounding the apparition that has befriended his son, which has now begun driving a wedge further into their deteriorating marriage when Tom claims to have seen the apparition himself. Madness has planted itself in Tom's brain, and discovering the truth is the only resolution to free him and his family of their suffering. Kevin Bacon in a 90s horror film is pretty much as great as it gets. Do you remember back when we discussed You Should Have Left (2020) and Kaytlynn promised a better Bacon film? This is it. With a ghostly presence and unsolved mystery unravelling before us, we get the best of haunting 90s horror in Stir of Echoes (1999) written and directed by David Koepp. This is a film adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same title by Richard Matheson, which is really adding to the layers of what happened and why in this film. Have you enjoyed this movie already or will this be your first time watching? Yay/nay on the K-Bacon scale? Let us know and listen in for our stab ratings this week!
