Česar Sissy Spacek in Nicku Nolteju v krasnih, vinjetnih stranskih vlogah pač ni treba dokazovati. Recenzijo je napisal Gorazd Trušnovec, bere Jure Franko.

THE OLD MAN & THE GUN (2018) feels less like a typical crime movie and more like a gentle farewell not just to a character, but to an entire Hollywood era. Directed by David Lowery, the film stars Robert Redford as Forrest Tucker, a lifelong bank robber whose crimes are defined not by violence, but by charm, politeness, and an irresistible love of the game. As the final entry in our Robert Redford Arc, this episode explores why THE OLD MAN & THE GUN works as a perfect swan song. The film distills everything that made Redford an icon: effortless charisma, moral ambiguity, romanticism without sentimentality, and a deep understanding of aging, obsession, and identity. What emerges is a crime story with almost no tension and yet carries enormous emotional weight. Lowery shoots the film on Super 16mm, giving it the texture and warmth of a 1970s classic, while Redford delivers one of his most restrained and expressive performances. Paired with a beautifully understated turn from Sissy Spacek, and supported by a stacked cast that includes Casey Affleck, Danny Glover, and Tom Waits, the film becomes a meditation on what it means to keep doing the thing you love even when the world tells you it's time to stop. Die My Love received a D+ CinemaScore, which pretty much made it a must-see for the Lodgecast! The movie is directed by Lynne Ramsay and based on a 2012 novel by Ariana Harwicz. It stars Jennifer Lawrence as Grace, a young mother in rural Montana grappling with severe postpartum depression and psychosis that unravels her marriage to her husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson). The supporting cast includes LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek. We'll give our thoughts on the cinema of Lynne Ramsay before we cover how this movie consistently beat us down for 2 hours. It's a brutal film with a wild performance by Jennifer Lawrence and a miscast Robert Pattinson. We took the cinematic beating so you don't have to! This is Die My Love!
Two of our hosts watch their first Lynne Ramsay film with Die My Love, a relationship thriller that tests the boundaries of expression with its D+ CinemaScore and divisive reactions. In Die My Love, new mother Grace (Jennifer Lawrence) molds away at home while her aloof husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson) is at work. With only her baby, a barking dog, and her own thoughts to keep her company, she begins to unravel. We discuss its mixed reception, the economics of auteurism, and dive deeper into our fractured consensus on the film.

For the second "high school horror" themed Season of Spoop episode, Heather returns to the show to discuss 1976's supernatural horror movie "Carrie" directed by Brian De Palma and adapted from the Stephen King book. They get into bullying in high school, whether or not Carrie is a sympathetic character, and how this adaptation's success impacted the careers of King, De Palma, and star Sissy Spacek. They also talk about how the mother character is the true villain, why most the horror comes from the experiences of an abused teenager, and many other aspects of the film. As October kicks into gear, we've got Mercedes Bryce Morgan, director of the new horror movie BONE LAKE. And not only is her own film spooky, but so is her chosen "feeling seen" subject: teen girlhood...er, we mean Sissy Spacek's CARRIE from the horror classic CARRIE. She and Jordan get into the blurry line between exploitation and representation in horror and erotic thrillers, especially when it comes to women's sexuality. Then, Jordan has one quick thing about the future (or lack thereof...) of the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise. Feeling Seen is hosted by Jordan Crucchiola and is a production Maximum Fun.Need more Feeling Seen? Keep up with the show on Instagram and Bluesky.
From the works of one of America's pre-eminent film directors to the works of one of its greatest…authors? October is here, and for our annual spooky season theme we're watching film adaptations based on the writing of Stephen King! We're starting back at the beginning with 1976's Carrie. Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie broke the horror barrier, earning Oscar nominations for their performances in Brian de Palma's adaptation of King's debut novel. We take a moment to discuss King's general career, before jumping into the movie. What's your favorite Stephen King adaptation? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com

Burning Bright and Chris Paul dive into Badlands (1973), Terrence Malick's haunting debut inspired by real-life events. They explore the film's unsettling blend of beauty and brutality, following the crime spree of Kit and Holly across the American Midwest. The hosts unpack Malick's unique storytelling style, the dreamlike cinematography, and how the film juxtaposes innocence with violence. Along the way, they discuss the performances of Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, the sparse yet impactful dialogue, and the ways the film challenges viewers to question morality, influence, and the romanticizing of outlaws. It's a layered conversation that connects the movie's themes to broader cultural narratives, making this episode as thought-provoking as the film itself.

Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie did the unheard of in the 70s. They both nabbed Oscar noms for a horror movie. Yes, Brian DePalma's "Carrie" was, much like Carrie White's house, a groundbreaker. Featuring telekinesis, the supernatural, religious fanaticism, and (oh yeah) an ever-flowing bucket of pig blood, "Carrie" seemed an unlikely slam dunk, but it scored big with both audiences and critics. Now, decades and remakes later, did Carrie White maybe overreact a smidge? Why did Betty Buckley get the worst of it? And how much 1970s pubic hair belongs in a film's opening credits? We're entering a stretch of Have You Ever Seen reviews where the performances in the movies in question won the star a Best Actress Oscar. Sissy Spacek took it home 45 years ago for her transformation into the Coal Miner's Daughter...aka the First Lady Of Country Music, Miss Loretta Lynn. Spacek wasn't alone though. Tommy Lee Jones as her husband Doo and Beverly D'Angelo as Patsy Cline shine too. Michael Apted's biography has all that famous music, of course, but we're also talking about a difficult 50-year marriage, occasional violence and Lynn's ascent to stardom. This did the poverty-to-riches story so well before that became such a common theme in musical biopics. The premise might be a tough sell: a young woman attempts to finally own her sexuality following a terminal diagnosis. In the new show Dying For Sex, Michelle Williams stars as a cancer patient confronting the unsatisfying relationships in her life. The series is also a raunchy sex comedy that suggests it's never too late to insist on your own happiness. And it's got a stellar cast, including Jenny Slate, Rob Delaney, and Sissy Spacek.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
