In 2007, a spanish movie came out that would start a found footage franchise, and that movie is REC. Part of the foriegn horror boom that took place between 2005 and 2010, REC cemented its place in film cinema with three sequels and even spawning an american remake by the name of Quarintine. REC begins as a television crew consisting of a reporter and camera man as they ride along with a crew of fire fighters as they get a call to go to an apartment building. From there, they are held hostage inside due to a virus that has quickly spread throughout the building to its tenats. We talk about this & more on this spooktacular episode of Night of the Nerdy Laser! Welcome to October! ¡Gracias y feed the cvlt!
For this episode, I am looking at two stories that involve snuff films: EVIL DEAD TRAP from Japan and THESIS / TESIS from Spain.Neither makes a whole lot of sense, but each has its brilliant charms. The kills in EVIL DEAD TRAP are great and the plot takes a serious left turn in the third act. THESIS is one of my favorite films despite some of the annoying plot holes. Everyone is a joy to behold, especially Fele Martinez, who, along with Eduardo Noriega appears in ABRE LOS OJOS, also directed by Alejandro Amenabar.Coming up next is our show about writers, as it appears our Tech Horror Ep. may have been reclaimed by the gods of the Internet. We looked at IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS and BURNING.Coming up, we have some wonderful shows with guests planned. Comfortilms Podcast will join us to talk THE WAGES OF FEAR & SORCEROR and Stefan MacDonald, From Drag Mitch to Hell will join us to talk VIDEODROME for its 40th anniversary! We will be watching WENDELL & WILD and THE UNICORN WARS next, and speaking of Amenabar, after that, THE OTHERS & POLTERGEIST.Be good and be good to each other. Zach and Charlie join Caitlin for some bridal horror! We cover Rec 3, the most Spanish movie ever. We talk about Rec 3's humor, gore, and Catholic zombies, and we look at the ways it subverts wedding traditions. Tangents include: Cocaine Bear, Twilight, organ donation, marriage, favorite numbers, vacations, Sarah's wedding, and scariest horrror moments.
Andy takes a look at 70s Spanish Horror movie Murder Mansion from 1972.
Matt and Maddie join Caitlin to cover 2022's Piggy. Based on a short by the same name, Piggy tells the story of a brutally bullied girl faced with the decision of whether or not to save her tormenters. We look at themes of size, bullying, and compulsion, and we give our best Castilian pronunciations. THERDITA! Tangents include pork dishes, books, discount stores, and muppets. I'd also like to give a special thanks to Magnolia Pictures for the screener.
On this spooky season edition of Parallax Views, Troy Guinn and Rod Barnett of the Nashcycast joins us to discuss the overlooked cult movie career of Jacinto Molina, better known by his stage name Paul Naschy. For the uninitiated, Naschy has often been referred to as the Spanish Lon Chaney or Lon Chanery Jr. due to his playing such characters as the Mummy, Fu Manchu, Frankenstein's monster, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and, most famously, the cursed werewolf Waldemar Daninsky. Naschy's take on horror and the gothic harkened back to the classic Universal Studios monster but with a 70s twist vis-a-vis the inclusion of sex and violence. However, when one delves deeper into these films it becomes apparent Naschy's films are more than just monster mashes, carrying with them their own distinct style and charms as well as highlighting Naschy's thematic obsessions. Among his more well-know titles are Howl of the Devil, Frankenstein's Bloody Terror, The Werewolf and the Yeti, Horror Rises from the Tomb, Dr. Jekyll and the Wolfman, The Werewolf and the Vampire Woman, The Beast and the Magic Sword, Night of the Werewolf, and many others. Over the years Naschy's cult following has grown with such directors as Joe Dante, John Landis, and Guillermo del Torro singing his praises. In this conversation we'll discuss the importance of Naschy, his bitter over the film industry in his latter years, Naschy's growing up under the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco in Spain and the influence of that on his work, censorship and Paul Naschy movies, and much, much more!

The NaschyCast returns with a long episode to reward your patience. Bob Sargent was the man behind the excellent 1990's cult movie fanzine Videooze. His issue devoted to Paul Naschy was a major contributor to my early knowledge of the man's filmography and allowed for fans to have a roadmap to his career. Mr. Sargent is a huge fan of Naschy and reached out recently to gab about our shared fascination with the great Spanish Horror icon. Of course, Troy and I couldn't wait to get him in front of a Zoom mic and pick his brain about Euro-Horror in general and Naschy in specific. He was even kind enough to put together a list of his personal Top Ten favorite films by Senor Molina! This a is a lively conversation and it ranges over the decades and across a dozen different topics. You might even learn a little about how Videooze came about and who Mr. Sargent credits with pushing him into self-publishing. If you have any comments or questions naschycast@gmail.com is still the address to send things to. We'll be back soon with a short episode focused on answering a few emails.

Bienvenidos, listeners! This week we check a few films from Spain. Thanks for listening!
Richard does the one thing that no one should ever do. He's talking about his favorite horror films. He rewinds the clock back to 2010 to see what his 15 year old self thought were his favorites. This list is sexy, manly, friendly, and erotic. But also it features Richard talking.http://legionpodcasts.comhttp://doomedmoviethon.comhttp://doomedmoviethon.blogspot.comhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuj-7z59efubCNMRoS-PUwg

Caitlin is joined by longtime friend Charlie to talk about the Spanish horror movie Veronica. Enjoy the over-pronunciation!
In this weeks episode, Clayton and Rick do a second dive into the world of Spanish Horror, with some very different yet similar results. Killer Barbys is a Troma-esque horror film starring a punk band with a really cool song. And they let you know by playing it 100 times, and Rick never once got sick of it, due to love. Sit back and relax, as we once again learn why you shouldn't have awful voice actors, or have little people playing kids. Enjoy!!!
The Boys take the night sift to find what all the hype was about in the 2007 Spanish found footage film REC.Directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, REC follows a young, late night television reporter that finds herself doing a piece on first responders during a night shift when they are called in to investigate an incident at an apartment complex. Not scared yet?
