"Jeepers Creepers," released in 2001, was helmed by writer-director Victor Salva and marked a unique entry into the horror genre. The film's plot, centered around a mysterious and malevolent creature that terrorizes a brother and sister on a road trip, required the creation of a distinct and terrifying antagonist. The team's efforts were largely focused on crafting the creature, known as "The Creeper," played by actor Jonathan Breck. Special effects and makeup artists were tasked with designing a creature that was both horrifying and memorable. The practical effects, such as the Creeper's wings and regenerative abilities, added a visceral and unsettling quality to the film's horror elements. "Jeepers Creepers" was shot on a relatively modest budget, with the production taking place in Florida and California. The film's rural and isolated setting added to the sense of dread, as the siblings found themselves stranded on remote roads with no one to turn to for help. The movie's success can be attributed in part to its ability to blend the tension of a suspenseful road trip with the supernatural horror of a relentless and enigmatic antagonist, creating a unique and unsettling cinematic experience. "Jeepers Creepers" went on to become a cult classic in the horror genre and was followed by two sequels, further expanding the lore of the creature. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: Siblings Trish (Gina Philips) and Darry (Justin Long) are on a road trip when they encounter a menacing and seemingly indestructible creature with a thirst for flesh. After witnessing the horrifying sight of the creature disposing of a body down a sewer pipe, the siblings find themselves pursued by this malevolent entity with wings and a bizarrely regenerative nature. They soon realize that they are not the first victims and that they must fight for their lives as they attempt to uncover the terrifying mystery behind the creature's existence. "Jeepers Creepers" is a suspenseful and nightmarish journey into the unknown, blending elements of road-trip horror and the supernatural, as Trish and Darry struggle to escape the clutches of a relentless and otherworldly threat. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support
This creature feature horror franchise began in 2001 with “Jeepers Kreepers” starring Gina Phillips & Justin Long. 2003 saw the release of its sequel with a new cast that included Ray Wise, Nicky Aycox, Eric Nenninger & Garikayi Mutambirwa. 2017 saw the release of “Jeepers Creepers 3” which canonically takes place after the events of the first film but prior to events of the second. These first 3 films were directed by Victor Salva. In 2022, a 4th film was released and directed by Timo Vuorensola. This film serves as a soft reboot of the franchise. All the films surround the same basic premise, a group of people are attacked by a monster who is attracted to fear. While the first film was based on a series of actual events, the other 3 are come across as supernatural action movies than horror. The 4th film became subject of a lawsuit after changing production companies without the permission or notifying the previous producers.

Conrad and Dan discover the 1995 sci-fi fantasy drama Powder cowering away in the oubliette basement and drag it whimpering into the sunlight to see if it's the sort of baby you want to immediately disown in the maternity ward, or a misunderstood marvel that's "too beautiful for this world". The tale of a mysterious young man with a whiter-than-white complexion who seems to have supernatural powers, Powder could be a religious allegory or a heartwarming fable. But given that its writer/director is Victor Salva and the narrative keeps having to take a backseat to unjustifiable flashes of male nudity, the film could have a wholly different agenda. It stars Sean Patrick Flanery, Lance Henrikson, Mary Steenburgen and none other than Jeff Goldblum... which is quite a cast... and features a sumptuous score from Jerry Goldsmith. But, crucially, is it any good? And can we separate the art from the artist? Find out! James Ridgley joined Justin and Paul to discuss filmmaking. He also shared his information on performing standup as well as on cruise ships, sketches, and going from juggling to microbudget films. His IMDb - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0725927 About James James Ridgley grew up as a latch-key kid in West Los Angeles attending IPS, a program within University High School; an highly experimental learning environment which involved Landmark training and other "therapy" type instruction. Also where he attended a Metaphysics class which lead to an actual one time telepathic communication from his teacher from across the city. This would later affect his current screenwriting efforts in the Spiritual Drama/Dramedy genre (Perhaps a just made up genre.) That same year in High School he started his career performing a Comedy-Juggling act around the world, working as an Opening Act for Ray Charles; Marilyn McCoo; worked with Penn and Teller, Pee Wee Herman, the late great Bill Hicks, Bob Saget and others. He performed Stand-Up in the 80's and 90's and dabbled in screenwriting. While the screenplay "DC DOG" got him noticed, along with a 2nd Place standing in Kodak's Short Script Film Awards for his original script "Where Life Begins" it didn't lead to production so he went to film school to learn the art himself. From this naive position he ended up with jobs in editorial and then mostly as a Production Sound Mixer, working with his favorite directors: Mark Pellington, Mike Mills, and Victor Salva. In between he writes and directs his own projects and has a slew of Screenplays ready to market.
Written and Directed by Victor Salva and starring Justin Long, Gina Phillips, Jonathan Breck, Patricia Belcher and Brandon Smith.
Victor Salva is a registered sex offender, yet somehow has been able to make huge studio films. He has worked with Disney and made the Jeepers Creepers franchise. The second part of our episode we discuss some pretty scary real-life situations that some actresses have endured. We talk about Tina Fey being attacked as a child, Sandra Bullocks run in with her stalker and Miranda Cosgrove's very close call.

Directed by Victor Salva, it told the story of a brother and sister being stalked by a demonic, flesh-eating creature nicknamed The Creeper who embarks upon an eating spree every 23 years. It's hard to imagine that such an outlandish premise could be at all inspired by real-life events.

https://www.gofundme.com/we-r-their-voice We 'R' their voice My name is Nathan Forrest Winters; I am a child sex abuse survivor. Best known for my role as Casey, in the 1987 horror film ‘Clownhouse' written and directed by Victor Salva. Salva is known best for his films ‘powder' and the ‘Jeepers Creepers' series and being the man that sexually abused me for six years of my childhood. Towards the end of '87 Salva was convicted of 5 counts of child molestation and sentenced to three years, of which he served a mere eighteen months at a treatment center in Napa valley California. It's now been three decades since Salva was convicted and sentenced. It was then at the age 12 that my journey and search for healing began. At 20 I found my voice as a survivor. My intention was and still remains to raise awareness and to educate. To shed light onto these darkest of crimes and to be a living example of proof that there is in fact healing to be found in the wake of abuse. To help others to find their strength, courage and their voice. I am currently in production of a documentary entitled ‘Pure Eternus: The Babysitter'. Directed by Connar Frazier,'Babysitter' tells the story of my journey from victim to survivor. I also am fulfilling a dream of mine by writing all the music for the film. I am proud to be a part of the solution. To be the voice for our children who virtually have none in our judicial system. to bring this epidemic out into the forefront. We as a whole in this country have been too afraid to face such an unspeakable topic and continue to turn a blind eye. This has allowed these predators of our children to go unchecked for too long. To my very surprise, they FINALLY dropped this trailer I've been waiting for... This is one of those characters and properties in general that deserves another shot and definitely when it's out of the hands of pieces of shit like Victor Salva. The idea of The Creeper has always been really solid, different, and scary if executed properly. So a brand new director, cast and crew is just what this needs, and maybe some more things on the side to snack on. They seem to be taking this seriously after keeping it under wraps for the most part. But nonetheless, I'm happy The Creeper is back at the winner's table with a chance to eat again. Enjoy, y'all.

Victor Salva is an American filmmaker known for his work in horror movies like the Jeepers Creepers films, as well as the 1995 film Powder. What many people don't know is that he was also convicted of sexually assaulting a 12 year old actor on the set of a movie in 1989. Victor Salva was able to continue his career long after his conviction, even managing to work with Disney and creating the final Jeepers Creepers film in 2017. *Trigger Warning: This episode contains graphic descriptions of themes like grooming and child sex abuse. * * * * * * *Didi West is not a journalist or mental health professional, she is simply an entertainer and podcaster who enjoys researching true crime, dissecting conspiracy theories, and sharing stories and unknown facts about people in the limelight. This week, Blake and Joe dig into Johnny Nash's third album as we continue our chronological investigation into the artists who make up the Grosse Pointe Blank's soundtrack. We talk about Johnny Nash's 1959 album, I Got Rhythm. Things get a bit strange on this episode as we begin to see some light at the end of the crooner tunnel for Johnny Nash and we go off on tangents such as Broadway music, postwar American culture, and convicted pedophile Victor Salva. Yeah, we are just as surprised as you are. Nonetheless, we hope you enjoy it. And, remember, this podcast is us…breathing.

This week on Total Movie Recall, the age of innocence is over, and somehow what was supposed to be a fun episode about a trashy, campy, forgotten 90s horror movie becomes a despairing yawp into the empty air about the power structures that let abusive, predatory men get away with everything. In this special episode, Danny interviews J.G. Michael of Parallax Views about Victor Salva, writer director of the Jeepers Creepers horror film franchise. The film has long been a favorite of Danny's but then recently he learned that Salva had been convicted in the late 1980s of sexually abusing a child on the set of his film Clown House. His victim, Nathan Forrest Winters, was the star of that film and is now working on a documentary about his experience. In this show, Danny and J.G. discuss the Jeepers Creepers films in light of Salva's crimes. Seen from this angle, Jeepers Creepers can be seen as a not-so-coded exploration of Salva's own pedophilia.
Although the eponymous creeper does not offer many lasting frights, the true monster of this film is much more chilling. Director/writer Victor Salva, a convicted sex offender, pled guilty in 1988 to the horrendous sexual abuse of a child actor. He later went on to be hired by big studios and producers including Disney and Francis Ford Coppola. Even if this movie was our generation's Citizen Kane (let's be clear, it is not) we cannot separate the monster from the art. And we don't need to. We also aren't hanging any of Hitler's paintings on our walls.
WARNING: this podcast contains references to real crimes to do with sexual abuse. Please do not proceed in listening if this is a trigger for you. In our most controversial episode yet, Patrick and I (Seb) talk about whether or not it's okay to watch, and even enjoy, a film made by a monster. A real monster. Victor Salva is a convicted child molester and his film Jeepers Creepers was a sleeper hit back in 2001. It tells the story of two siblings on a cross-country road trip, finding themselves targeted by an ancient monster that wants to consume them. Wee talk about the ethics of aesthetics vs. idealogy, whether it is okay to watch something made by sex-abuser, and the film itself in and out of those contexts.
Nathan Forrest Winters; Child Sex Abuse SurvivorTalkhttps://www.gofundme.com/we-r-their-voiceWe 'R' their voiceMy name is Nathan Forrest Winters; I am a child sex abuse survivor. I am also in the grassroots stages of starting a non-profit organization called ‘we R their voice' as well as booking venues for my ‘Raised Awareness' speaking tour I plan to launch by spring of next year. So I am quite busy but ecstatic to have such an awesome amount of support and such a willingness to help me see my dreams of doing my part to make this world safer and to expose these predators of our children become a reality.
