We begin in Japan, a place full of some of the best horror lore ever! Yotsuya Kaidan is the fictional, two centuries old story of a struggling samurai so desperate to escape the trappings of poverty that he horrifically betrays the one person who truly loves him. A person who refuses to stay gone when he gets rid of her. Then we have Kisaragi Station, a story that many have long believed isn't just a story, but a true account from 2004, when users on a Japanese message board watched in real time as a woman named Hasumi posted frantic updates after waking alone on a train platform that didn't exist on any map. What began as a simple missed stop slowly became one of Japan's most disturbing and enduring paranormal internet legends. Next up, a woman is in need of an outpatient surgery that goes sideways. Did she watch her own death? And resuscitation? A man who drive the same route every day finds a detour one morning on his way to work. Did he perhaps slip into another time line? Lastly, a woman who is no stranger to the spaces we think of being spoopy, the morgue. Something very peculiar about her day at work.  Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camp 2026: Have you heard?! Writer and critic Robert Rubsam returns to the show to discuss Kiyoshi Kurosawa's enigmatic, unclassifiable thriller Charisma, the story of a failed hotage negotiator torn between factions of scientists, government agents, and madmen all fighting to decide the fate of a very unique tree in a mysterious, nameless forest. It's as strange as it sounds! We discuss Kiyoshi Kurosawa's vision of nature as a dialectical force where harmony and disorder coexist. Then we debate the film's titular tree, Chrisma. Is it malevolent, toxic, or a neutral force weaponized by humankind? Finally, we trace Kurosawa's lineage through filmmakers like David Cronenberg and the great journeyman Richard Fleischer, and how their influence, filtered through his austere style, produces a deeper sense of distance and unease. We begin this week in a place literally called the Suicide Forest. Aokigahara. Dan will share the whisperings of hauntings from this infamous Japanese location. Then, we'll head to Italy for an Italian folklore tale about La Borda. Lynze offers us three stories this week. The first two are an alien/UFO double feature. Her last story, though not traditionally scary, does offer us a confirmation from the other side. Scared To Death Merch: Exciting new merch is up in the store! This month we talk about the 1997 movie Cure. A Japanese Horror movie that talks about hypnotism, mental health, and what it means to make decisions.Honestly, I've typed this description out five separate times but stupid Spotify for Creators keeps clearing the fields. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, SPOTIFY???? Go to hell. (I'm fine. I'm cool. I'm good)Danae, our friend of the pod, friend in real life, Twilight Summer Prince, and Friday the 13th correspondent, picked this movie because we decided to let them watch a good movie with us. How'd they do? Thanks everyone for listening, wherever you listen from. It means the world to us and me personally. I know this isn't the biggest pod in the world but it's fun and I hope you're enjoying it. Love ya.

This first story of Dan's was mined from a Ghost Stories subreddit full of nothing but supposedly true paranormal encounters. The poster claims to have seen his fair share of all the gruesome horrors mankind has to offer during his time in the service but nothing he ever witnessed as a soldier ever terrified him quite as much as the inexplicable thing he saw in Okinawa.  Then we explore the lore that surrounds Edmonton, Canada's supposedly haunted Firkins House, where the ghost of a child, a haunted doll, and more have supposedly been encountered on numerous occasions. Lynze has a fun tale that feels like your brother called you to tell you about his insane day work. What do two men discover while installing a Radon system? Lastly, a fun tale of Bill, a tour bus driving who never wanted to give up his job. Scared To Death Merch:Celebrate 300 episodes of Scared to Death with the killer new '300 Rituals' collection.
