THE STUCKMANIZED INTERVIEW!! From YouTube Critic to Horror Director! Why He Quit Reviewing "Bad" Movies & the Personal Trauma That Inspired SHELBY OAKS. — Greg Alba sits down with Chris Stuckmann for one of our most personal, craft-focused conversations yet. We cover the full journey from YouTube film critic to feature filmmaker, the decision to stop reviewing movies he dislikes (and the rise of “performative mocking” online), and how fatherhood and a former religious background (ex–Jehovah's Witness) shaped his storytelling. We dig into SHELBY OAKS (theatrical release Oct 24, with early Thurs night shows Oct 23): inspirations like Lake Mungo and Noroi: The Curse, why Japanese horror gets under the skin, M. Night Shyamalan's influence (faith vs. fear), and how Chris writes with the edit/shot list in mind. Production talk galore: 20-day indie shoot in Ohio, a year of prep, DP Andrew Baird, why the First AC (focus puller) is the unsung set hero, PAs saving the day, and how star Camille Sullivan (Hunter Hunter) elevated scenes so intensely the chest mic captured her heartbeat; plus working with Sarah Durn and Keith David (The Thing, They Live). Industry context: Mike Flanagan producing, NEON distributing, The Newton Brothers scoring, festival reactions (Fantastic Fest, LA premiere), and how being on set changed the way Chris now reads reviews and watches indie films. We also hit fun stuff: Metal Gear Solid directional-mic jokes, Tarantino vs. Scorsese-style self-watching, first horror clips he'll show his kids (Jaws, Jurassic Park moments), comic-book horror he'd love to tackle (Clayface, Scarface, Scarecrow), and why he still feels like “a guy from Ohio who got it done.” If you're into horror filmmaking, YouTube career arcs, screenwriting, directing, faith and art, or modern indie distribution, this one's for you. It's just Kevin and Andrew this week, and it's a fun one. The guys talk Marvel Zombies, the Alien: Earth finale, the season premiere of Gen V and Wayward, with all of that book ended by some wonderful tangents!! We give you a rare look into what happens before we start recording a show, which is usually just senseless babbling. This time, though, the conversation was productive so it went into the show! Talking about a show that is well over 20 years old could come across as dated, but Battlestar Galactica is a master class in storytelling, character building, and budget management. Honestly, if you haven't seen it before, you owe it to yourself to give it a watch. Get past the sci-fi-ness of it and settle into the DEEP social story. You will not be disappointed. Getting into more current content, Kevin talks about the first two episodes of the animated series, Marvel Zombies. It's a big swing to take, and it could be argued that they whiffed a bit. It's beautiful and gory, but a lot of the voice acting misses the mark and that story could be more adult, but leans into silliness at times. Think of it like the MCU version of Shazam. There's potential, and it's not bad, but it's not as good as it could be. Next up, the guys move into things that kind of kicked butt and talk about the Alien: Earth finale. Some of the perdictions made in our last episode came to fruition, and the show ends up on a very solid note that leaves it wide open for a promising season 2. Overall, it's a solid ending to an excellent season of television. The guys then move on to quickly discuss this new season of Gen V, which is off to a rockin' start. Full disclosure, and it should be obvious, if you didn't like The Boys or Gen V season 1, this is more of the same, so it could offend if you are faint of heart. But if you liked those two shows, then you are in luck. This starts off great and is unravelling some great surprises that are worth watching for. With the episode winding down, Kevin talks about the show Wayward on Netflix. It stars Toni Collette and pretty much no one else. The show is meant to be a suspense/horror show but seems to lack all of the punch that Netflix shows in the Mike Flanagan era. This leads the guys to their final tangent, the future of Mike Flanagan. It may be mostly speculation, but it's a lot of fun! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week!

The Life of Chuck ci ha fatto esplodere il cuore.

146. "I wouldn't have it in my house." Greetings ghoulies, thanks for stopping by. This episode was a supposed maim feature edition, focusing on Mike Flanagan's Oculus from 2013. One of the better haunted mirror movies, in which seeing isn't always believing. Unfortunately, the two dungeon morons get distracted and also chat about Together, the new Alien TV series and Stephen King adaptations. As ever, forever, this podcast contains swearing and drunken opinions that could possibly irritate or offend. Let's hope you find something about it endearing, if you do, please leave a comment or recommend us to a friend. Thanks dunge heads!#oculus #alienearth #together
This week on The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast, Clay and Amanda are tackling a film that might just be the most confusing sequel in horror history: Mike Flanagan's Doctor Sleep (2019). Now, don't get me wrong — it's a solid, spooky ride with Ewan McGregor as an older Danny Torrance, still haunted by the Overlook and trying to cope with his powers. But here's the thing: is this a sequel to *The Shining* the book? Or *The Shining* the movie? Or some strange in-between hybrid stitched together with ghostly typewriters and whiskey breath? Because I swear, every time I try to explain it to someone, I feel like I need a chalkboard, some red string, and a shot of bourbon. On the one hand, Doctor Sleep is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, which itself was written as a direct sequel to his original Shining book. That means we're supposed to be following King's continuity — the one where the Overlook Hotel burned to the ground at the end. But on the other hand, Flanagan clearly loves Kubrick's *film*, and he goes out of his way to make *Doctor Sleep* visually and tonally connect to that version. Which means the Overlook is still standing, the carpet patterns are back, and suddenly it feels like we're living in a cinematic multiverse before Marvel made it cool.Clay and Amanda dive into all this messy, fascinating crossover territory — breaking down how Flanagan managed to honor both King and Kubrick, while still creating something that stands on its own. They'll also talk about Rebecca Ferguson's terrifyingly charismatic performance as Rose the Hat, creepy steam-slurping cults, and what happens when childhood trauma grows up with you.Me? I'm still stuck asking: so wait… which Shining is this shining shining from? And don't forget to head over to patreon.com/thepenskyfile to follow Clay and Amanda down the muddy path of remakes and reboots too!

Jacki and Marissa continue their celebration of Mike Flanagan, with a discussion of The Haunting of Bly Manor. Marissa crashes out about the death, being forgotten, and the afterlife. She decides to plan her own Halloween Hell House, where the only people who have to worry are horrible humans. The rest of us are going straight up. As Marissa spirals we are lucky that Jacki is here to talk her down and remind her that is the mess of life and being loves is all beautiful yet inevitably tragic. Is this the weakest entry in the Mike Flanagan Cinematic Universe? Maybe, but the ghouls agree that it is still an incredibly beautiful meditation on love, grief, and memento mori. Stewart, Rastislav and Ken return for Off the Record, and speak on the memory of Ozzy Osbourne. Ken begins with a glowing review of 2020's Rockfield: the Studio on the Farm; Ozzy, Tony Iommi and many others were interviewed for this documentary on the studio built by Charles and Kingsley Ward. The Welsh farming brothers provided the backdrop for Black Sabbath and other UK bands to create enduring pop and rock classics, and have weathered industry changes to continue operating.Stewart continues with a review of the 2023 sci fi thriller Simulant, a low budget affair that nevertheless utilized its actors and story to impress Stewart; he favourably compares this film to Blade Runner. Robbie Amell, Jordana Brewster, Simu Liu and Sam Worthington headline.Rastislav then brings more UK praise with his review of the Ricky Gervais series After Life (2019-2022). He enjoyed Gervais' abrasive, uncompromising humour and observations of human nature.Moving to lesser picks, Ken reviews an early Mike Flanagan effort called Absentia (2011). While he found value in the character development between actors Katie Parker and Courtney Bell, he feels the low budget prevented Flanagan from creating a film with the intensity of his later releases.Stewart then expands on his Dead Like Me series review to administer last rites to its 2009 sequel movie Life After Death. Actors Ellen Muth and Callum Blue couldn't enliven this finale to Stewart's satisfaction.Rastislav concludes with his analysis of the recent Netflix sensation You (2018-2025), starring Penn Badgley, Victoria Pedretti and others. He felt the change in story backdrops kept the series from being consistently entertaining. And if that wasn't enough, Twisted Metal Season 2 leaves us with a bitter taste in Stewart's mouth. In one of those bumper-sized guest-filled jamborees in which we specialise, this week's Empire Podcast sees John Nugent sit down on Zoom to interview Eddington star, Joaquin Phoenix... or does Joaquin Phoenix interview John Nugent? All will be revealed. [18:52 - 35:59 approx] Elsewhere, Chris Hewitt has a lovely chat about The Life of Chuck with co-stars Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor, in which they try desperately not to give anything away about Mike Flanagan's Stephen King adaptation; [59:45 - 1:18:06 approx] and he also has a chaotic Zoom with the stars of the excellent Eenie Meanie, Samara Weaving and Karl Glusman. [1:45:11 - 1:56:04 approx] Either side of that little lot, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara and Harry Stainer to talk about the movies that bring them joy in times of darkness; discuss the week's movie news, in which they say a sad but fond farewell to the legendary Terence Stamp; and review Eddington, The Life Of Chuck, Eenie Meanie, and Sorry, Baby. Oh, and Harry comes up with a novel use for custard. Enjoy.
Sam Clements speaks to actors Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor about working on Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck, adapted from the Stephen King story of the same name. THE LIFE OF CHUCK is a life-affirming, genre-bending story, based on Stephen King's novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles ‘Chuck' Krantz. Adapted for the screen and directed by regular King collaborator Mike Flanagan (Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep), THE LIFE OF CHUCK stars Tom Hiddleston as Chuck alongside a stellar ensemble cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillian and Mark Hamill, ably supported by Jacob Tremblay, Matthew Lillard, Mia Sara and Nick Offerman. Happy Tuesday, Everyone! This week, I sat down with my new friend Rahul Kohli to chat, while on a break from filming Mike Flanagan's new show Carrie. In addition to co-starring with me on the new project, Rahul has found so many new fans as a heartthrob in Mike's other recent shows, including playing Owen in The Haunting of Bly Manor, Sheriff Hassan in Midnight Mass and Leo Usher in The Fall of The House of Usher. You may also know him from his roles as Ravi Chakrabarti in iZombie and Bri in The Life of Chuck, as well as his prolific video game voice work. We had a lot of fun talking about how he fell in love with movies and video games, while growing up as a South Asian kid in the UK and he found his way as an actor without a well-worn path to follow. This conversation really feels like two friends sitting down for coffee, getting real about the life of a working actor— from how to use social media, to embracing insecurity and learning to let go and trust your director. I feel much closer to Rahul after this conversation, and I think you will too! Be sure to stick around after our chat for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I talk about the episode, share details about upcoming live shows and vent about an airplane nemesis! Time on Screen returns this week with an all new episode. In this episode, Zach Kazan and Kat Shoulders break down The Life of Chuck, the latest from Mike Flanagan, a favorite filmmaker among the Worn & Wound crew. The Life of Chuck is an adaptation of a Stephen King novella that is somewhat hard to describe. It follows the life of a single character through important stages of his life, with a story told in an extremely unconventional way, and is one of those movies that you'll want to discuss and dissect as soon as you get out of the theater. It's also a big left turn for Flanagan away from the horror genre, and feels like a much more personal statement. In this conversation, Zach and Kat break down the movie's structure and its key themes and scenes, and also rank their top three Mike Flanagan projects. They also talk about the importance of time as its portrayed in this movie, both in the way the story is told, and through a perfectly delivered Flanagan monologue that repurposes Carl Sagan's famous “Cosmic Calendar” principle. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and more. Forrest, Conan Neutron, Kristina Oakes and Zach Marsh talk about Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Mia Sara, Jacob Tremblay, Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mark Hamill. Narrated by Nick Offerman. Based on the Stephen King Novella "The Life of Chuck" published in the 2020 anthology "If It Bleeds" The third Stephen King adaptation written and directed by Mike Flanagan after Gerald's Game and Dr. Sleep The Life of Chuck is a story in 3 parts in reverse chronology, each with a very different style and genre. Charles "Chuck" Krantz is an accountant with a secret passion for dance that he learns from his Bubbe (Mia Sara) and numbers that he learns from his Zaide (Mark Hamill) We watch Chuck deal with grief, love, loss, and eventually his own death at the age of 39. Though tragically short, Chuck's life contains multitudes. It is large. "39 great years. Thanks, Chuck."
We present our I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) Review!I Know What You Did Last Summer is a 2025 American slasher film directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Lansky from a story by Leah McKendrick and Robinson. It is the fourth installment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise and the sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998).[a] The film stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols, with Freddie Prinze Jr., and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brandy from the first two films, respectively, appear in cameos. The plot takes place 27 years after the Tower Bay murders, when another hook-wielding killer appears and begins targeting a group of friends one year after they covered up a car crash in which they supposedly killed someone.Plans for a fourth film in the franchise started in 2014, when Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard signed on to write a reboot with no connection to the previous installments. However, this version ultimately fell through. Following the cancellation of the 2021 television series adaptation, the project was relaunched when Robinson pitched her version to Sony Pictures. The film was put into early development in February 2023, with producer Neal H. Moritz returning. Prinze Jr. and Hewitt were confirmed to be returning in 2024, with the new cast members joining throughout the year. Filming took place between October 2024 and March 2025 in New South Wales and Los Angeles.I Know What You Did Last Summer premiered at The United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles on July 14, 2025, and was theatrically released by Sony Pictures Releasing in the United States on July 18. The film received mixed reviews from critics. It grossed $24.6 million worldwide.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
A deaf and mute author, living in isolation, is visited at night by a masked predator threatening her life. Hush takes home invasion horror to new heights by pitting a masked killer up against a writer who is living in the woods alone and doesn't have the ability to hear or speak. Mike Flanagan, who has made a name for himself with several successful horror movies and tv shows, creates a tense atmosphere in this movie that continues to build over the duration of the film. What appears to be a hopeless situation is countered by the protagonist's inability to give up and be a worthy adversary. In this spoiler-filled deep dive into The Life of Chuck, I'm joined by therapist and former actor Charles McCaughan for a one-of-a-kind conversation. We explore Mike Flanagan's haunting and heartfelt adaptation of Stephen King's novella through a therapeutic lens—examining grief, memory, ego, joy, and the multitudes we all contain.Charles brings a unique perspective—not only as a healer who developed the transformational modality Psycho Energetic Transformation, but also as a former actor who understands the emotional layers embedded in performance. We unpack the film's reverse chronology, Chuck's lifelong emotional arc, and the hidden messages the universe (and our subconscious) might be sending us.Watch a 10-minute session demo with Charles: https://youtu.be/L7rnQhe40wAFull session available on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/full-therapy-125813889Learn more about Charles's work: https://www.charlesmccaughan.com/More with Charles: https://youtu.be/jj9RekN_m6c

If you frequent Collider Ladies Night, you're well aware that I'm a big proponent of filmmaking families — frequent collaborators who stick together and also add new additions to the family every step of the way. Mike Flanagan's “Flanafamily” is a big one, and it's a topic that keeps popping up with Molly Gordon, who's recently found great success collaborating with close friends on films like Theater Camp and Oh, Hi. Yet another top-tier filmmaking family? The one James Gunn started and continues to thrive with, and that family has a member you're going to be seeing a whole of in the coming weeks, months and years. It's Mikaela Hoover. In celebration of the release of Superman, in which Hoover plays Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant, she took the time to swing by the Collider Ladies Night studio and recap her journey to joining three of the biggest franchises of all time - DC, Marvel and, most recently, One Piece. It's a list of accomplishments that certainly can be traced back to Hoover's natural talent, but as we often discuss on Ladies Night, in film and television, finding someone who sees you and what you're capable of can be essential. Hoover found that in Gunn. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

They start with Celine Song's ‘Materialists' and celebrate Song's wonderful writing while also exploring their inability to connect to Dakota Johnson's and Pedro Pascal's performances of the material (1:46). Then, they create their list of the top five movie love triangles of all time (45:10). Next, they discuss Mike Flanagan's newest Stephen King adaptation, ‘The Life of Chuck,' and explore why they think it will be such a divisive movie (53:57). Finally, Sean is joined by Flanagan to talk about his relationship to King, why he felt that this was the right time to make a shift away from horror, and how to tightrope walk the thin line between corniness and sincerity (1:21:01). The Life of Chuck is based on Stephen King's novella of the same name from the If It Bleeds collection and is a story told in reverse featuring dancing, death, a haunted cupola, and the end of the world. You know, the basics for a good yarn.
