What happens when a masked killer picks the worst possible house to invade… and the homeowner refuses to go quietly?
Robert Longstreet is a respected actor who moves fluidly between indie films and genre work, showing a gift for playing complex, wounded, or morally ambiguous characters. He gained broader recognition recently for his performance as a grieving father in "The Haunting of Hill House," created by Mike Flanagan. Longstreet has since become a regular collaborator with Flanagan, appearing in projects like "Midnight Mass," where his portrayal of the troubled but deeply humane Joe Collie became one of the show's most poignant characters. On this episode, he talks about the psychological effects of some of the dark roles he's done and ponders if leaving "a pound of flesh" is necessary for the work. He calls directors not knowing how to talk to actors "a sin beyond measure," explains why good writing is so easy to memorize, why he'd rather do a zoom audition than a self-tape, why he didn't want to play a psychopathic octogenarian woman in Todd Rohal's instant cult classic "Fuck My Son!" and struggled all the way through it, plus much more. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. In this episode, we dive into a packed slate of movie news. Paramount Pictures wins bid over Netflix to acquire Warner Bros., a move that could reshape the studio landscape. We also explore Lee Isaac Chung's departure from the Ocean's 11 prequel starring Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, and what that means for the project. Sony Pictures signals a reboot of its Spider-Man Universe, while Evil Dead Wrath begins filming and hints at a busy horror season ahead. We share first reactions to The Bride! and Project Hail Mary, with the latter being called a sci-fi masterpiece. Plus, Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist adds more names to its cast. We'll also break down the trailers for Mortal Kombat II and Scary Movie 6, and wrap up with Scream 7's box office numbers and box office predictions for The Bride! and A24's Undertone.

It's time we bid farewell to the Haunting of Bly Manor in our journey through the Mike Flanagan library. As Viola drags Dani by the throat, Flora intervenes—reminding the Lady in the Lake of her long-lost daughter, Isabel. Viola takes Flora to the lake to drown her, but Dani sacrifices herself, inviting Viola's spirit to inhabit her body and freeing the trapped souls of Bly Manor. In the aftermath, Henry returns to raise the children, while Owen and Jamie discover Hannah's body in the well. Dani and Jamie leave for America to build a life together, but nine years later Viola's presence begins to surface. During a reunion in France, Owen reveals that Flora and Miles remember nothing of Bly Manor—only the happy parts of childhood. When Dani wakes with her hand around Jamie's throat, she realizes Viola's hold is growing stronger. To protect the woman she loves, Dani returns to Bly Manor and takes her place in the lake forever. The storyteller—revealed to be an older Jamie—finishes the tale at Flora's wedding reception, surrounded by the people who survived. Later that night, Jamie leaves the door open, still hoping Dani might return… and as she sleeps, a familiar hand rests gently on her shoulder.

Haunted Houses! Musicals! Creepy Dolls! This week Katie and Brit are joined by horror author and filmmaker Eric Miller to talk about one of his favorite scary movies, THE HAUNTING (1963).While you may know the name as the movie that inspired the Mike Flanagan miniseries, the story started as a novel by Shirley Jackson who with it re-defined the genre. It truly was ahead of it's time as a female-centered film that tackled mental health issues made by already accomplished director Robert Wise in between making Oscar-winning musicals WEST SIDE STORY and THE SOUND OF MUSIC.In addition to the film discussion, we talk all things horror as Eric shares with us his extensive knowledge of filmmaking and writing.Special thanks to our guest Eric Miller and Angela at Pitch Perfect Media. We have more Mike Flanagan news this week. With the release date of his Carrie series we discuss what we would like to see from the show. Predator: Badlands recently released on Hulu and did record numbers. We talk about what this means for the franchise. We have been lucky to cover some fantastic true crime documentaries on our humble little podcast. We have also seen some great folk horror. We never thought the two would come together. The Last Sacrifice does just that in a surprising documentary. There have been plenty of movies that have been moving along nicely when they suddenly lose the plot. Things become a mess at that point and it is pretty much impossible to get things back on track. A strong argument can be made that The Last Sacrifice loses its way. But it is one of the most fascinating tangents you will ever see. And it ultimately does tie into the greater mystery. The Dreadful will draw lots of attention for its casting of Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner. But it is a performance from another actor that steals the show. The film covers some deep themes and is bolstered by its fantastic setting. But one missed opportunity prevents it from being something truly special. A character driven psychological horror, The Dreadful does not necessarily need a Big Bad, but when it introduces one, it is hard not to expect more from it. And to be supremely disappointed when nothing comes of it. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. This week's episode feels like a nice little time capsule. We start with the latest horror news, including the new game from the studio behind Little Nightmares, updates on Jane Schoenbrun's upcoming film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, new details on Mike Flanagan's Carrie series, and the newly announced title for the next Evil Dead installment, Evil Dead: Wrath, directed by Mostly Horror alumni Francis Galluppi, plus a few other stories from around the genre. Then, since we've officially hit five years of Mostly Horror, we take a little time to look back. Instead of movie trivia, Steve quizzes Sean on trivia about the show itself. The most common guest name we've had over the years. Random stats from hundreds of interviews. Small details that somehow capture the history of this thing we've been building week after week.It turns into a simple, fun way of reflecting on the conversations, the guests, and the moments that have defined the podcast so far.We close, as always, with our Mostly Horror recommendations and what we've been watching lately.Five years in, still talking horror, and still grateful for every single conversation along the way...SoooCOME HANG OUT!!! The genesis of our show can be found in the Alamo Drafthouse. We may not go to it as often as we used to, but we did not want to see it close its doors in El Paso. We have not had too many good things to say about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise recently. Maybe the latest update will have us singing a different tune. Plus, a lot of Mike Flannagan news.Unsurprisingly, we love Halloween. The costumes, the movies, the parties, we enjoy it all. Still, a Halloween movie at the beginning of the year is a little weird. But what if that movie dresses up as a Halloween movie but has nothing to do with it?Even putting aside the fact that it is a Halloween movie that has no costumes, no decorations, and no pumpkins, The Haunted Forest is a strange film. The protagonist is surrounded by death, but is more concerned about whether he should go to work. A woman on her way to college grooms a high school kid. Two haunts with similar names become involved in a blood feud. It also includes the hardest cut possible ever seen in movie history.Movies based on video games are nothing new. One of the biggest stories of this young year is how a small indie horror based on a little game has been a box office success. It is hard to believe that within a matter of weeks, two indie horrors based on indie games have dropped, however. The Mortuary Assistant has the expected thrills, chills, and spills. It does a nice job of changing up the formula by having the vessel for possession have much more agency. There are also some spooky visuals in it. If only the damn story did not get in the way. Love is very much in the air on the Empire Podcast this week, as Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Becky Darke cram themselves into the podbooth and get all misty-eyed over Jason Voorhees, the masked maniac from the Friday The 13th movies, just in time for his birthday. But Valentine's Day also looms large this weekend, so the podteam answer a listener question about the worst choices made in rom-coms. The answers will shock you. Elsewhere, our intrepid quartet discuss the week's movie news, including the shock news that Mike Flanagan has decided to adapt a Stephen King story, and review Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights, Bart Layton's Crime 101, Corin Hardy's Whistle, and Hasan Hadi's The President's Cake. And Helen sits down on Zoom with Emerald Fennell to ask her all about her adaptation of the classic novel. [45:29 - 1:02:11 approx] Enjoy!

Dal secondo capitolo del progetto antologico, The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020). Alla splendida Midnight Mass. Things are getting a little too hot this week on The Grave Plot Podcast. Before we dive into reviews, we kick things off with Horror Business, including a truly bizarre Real World Horror story involving a family who believe they've been cursed after an encounter with a mysterious holy man… followed by a series of unexplained fires. Whether it's supernatural, coincidence, or something far stranger, it's the kind of story that feels ripped straight out of a horror movie. From there, we run through a stacked batch of genre news, including the continued expansion of the Poohniverse, which is now barreling toward an all-out monster mash crossover. We also talk Mike Flanagan officially stepping into The Exorcist franchise, a sequel to the slasher Stream being penned by one of the Impractical Jokers, a Christmas-set Return of the Living Dead sequel shambling toward release, and Eli Roth teaming up with Snoop Dogg for a haunted house movie with a title that pretty much says it all. Then it's time for reviews. We revisit sun-drenched slasher nostalgia with 2025's I Know What You Did Last Summer, breaking down whether this legacy sequel earns its resurrection or should've stayed buried. After that, we close things out with Bring Her Back, a much darker and more intimate horror film that gives us plenty to chew on. So spark up your campfire stories, keep your cursed artifacts at arm's length, and join us for another fresh descent into madness with The Grave Plot Podcast!

Ben and Rob chart the final moments of ‘Life Of Chuck', Mike Flanagan's Stephen King adaptation that has quickly become one of the most talked about life affirming films of the year. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, Jacob Tremblay and Mia Sara, Life Of Chuck tells the story of an ordinary man whose existence unfolds backwards through collapsing worlds, childhood dance lessons and the small moments that define a human life. Why has Life Of Chuck become such a powerful Stephen King adaptation for modern audiences; how did Mike Flanagan turn a strange, non linear short story into a deeply emotional and life affirming film; and why are so many viewers calling this one of the most moving movies of the year? How do Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill and Chiwetel Ejiofor anchor a story built on memory, grief and joy; what do the attic and the cupola really represent; and how do the recurring objects across timelines quietly rewrite what the film is saying? And finally, what does Life Of Chuck really mean about connection, mortality and the fear of forgetting what made life beautiful? CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! Joe, who is still savoring the suspense with two episodes left to watch, is filled with excitement and curiosity about how the series will conclude. Meanwhile, Cody has already completed the entire season and finds himself walking a tightrope of enthusiasm and restraint as he tries to discuss the plot developments without giving away any crucial spoilers that could ruin the experience for Joe. They engage in a lively discussion about their favorite characters, plot twists, and the emotional arcs that have defined the series over its run. The conversation flows naturally as they reminisce about previous seasons, the character growth they've witnessed, and the various themes that have emerged throughout the show's narrative. He explains how this new device has transformed his Kindle experience, allowing him not only to read eBooks but also to take notes and make annotations directly on the screen. Joe describes the features that have impressed him the most, such as the high-resolution display that mimics the feel of reading a physical book and the convenience of having a digital notebook combined with his reading library. He elaborates on how this upgrade has enhanced his engagement with the material he reads, making it easier to retain information and reflect on his thoughts as he goes along. As the episode draws to a close, Cody shifts the focus to some exciting news that has recently emerged regarding Mike Flanagan, the acclaimed director known for his work in the horror genre. He discusses Flanagan's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's epic series, The Dark Tower, a project that has been highly anticipated by fans of the novels for years. Cody shares details about Flanagan's vision for the series, his previous successes in adapting literary works for television and film, and the potential challenges he may face in bringing such a complex narrative to life. The guys express their hopes and expectations for this adaptation, considering the rich world-building and character development that King is known for. They wrap up the episode with their thoughts on what they hope to see in both Stranger Things and The Dark Tower, leaving listeners with plenty to ponder until the next installment.Official Website: https://www.comesnaturallypodcast.comOfficial Merchandise: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/comes-naturally-podcast/iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/kqkgackFacebook: http://tinyurl.com/myovgm8Tumblr: http://tinyurl.com/m7a6mg9Twitter: @ComesNaturalPodYouTube: http://tiny.cc/5snxpy
Fifty years on from the release of the film Carrie, directed by Brian DePalma and based on the first novel by Stephen King, Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode look at King adaptations on screen, from The Shawshank Redemption to The Shining. Why is the work of the modern horror maestro so often adapted? And what is the best ever Stephen King adaptation?Ellen hears from US critic and writer Maitland McDonagh, who has been a front-row witness to King on screen for five decades, about her favourite adaptations of his work - from Misery to The Monkey. And Ellen speaks to Edgar Wright - the director of Shaun Of The Dead, Baby Driver and the most recent King adaptation to reach cinema screens - The Running Man. Meanwhile, Mark talks to Mike Flanagan - the filmmaker who, perhaps more than any other in recent years, has helped keep King's work vividly alive on screen, with adaptations of Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck and a forthcoming new take on Carrie. In this episode of Cinema D'Amore, Chuck and Justin break down Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's The Life of Chuck, unpacking its reverse structure, standout performances from Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mia Sara, and Benjamin Pajak, and the film's meditation on memory, mortality, and the quiet power of everyday joy. They dig into Flanagan's direction, Nick Offerman's measured narration, the use of visual callbacks, and how the film translates King's short story to the screen. It's a film for fans of thoughtful, character-driven adaptations that linger long after the credits roll. Mike Flanagan knows horror. Any fan of the genre will tell you that he's one of the most exciting directors working today, creating haunting and uniquely terrifying films like "Oculus," "Gerald's Game," and "Doctor Sleep," not to mention his many Netflix series, including "The Haunting of Hill House" and "The Fall of the House of Usher." His latest film, "The Life of Chuck," may therefore seem like a bit of a departure. It doesn't explicitly aim to scare viewers in the ways that they might expect from a Flanagan production. But as the filmmaker himself would explain, it's a logical continuation of the kinds of stories he likes to explore. Namely, it concerns itself with big thematic topics, like the impact of one person on others and the peculiarities of living a finite existence. It's a moving, expansive film that has the capacity to horrify, stun, and affect its audience just as much as anything he's made before, even if it has no broken-neck ghosts or bathtub-dwelling ghouls. Mike Flanagan was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about the details of how the Stephen King story that inspired the film came to him at exactly the right time. He also talks about the differences and similarities of telling stories on TV and film, what it's like to adapt King's work, and how he came to work with his son for the very first time. You can listen to this interview below. It stars Camille Sullivan, Sarah Durn, Brendan Sexton III, and Keith David. It was executive produced by Mike Flanagan, who's known for directing Stephen King adaptations and other horror films. It combines elements of early YouTube, found footage, true crime documentaries, and narrative filmmaking to tell its story. The film was produced by our guest, Ashleigh Snead. She has been making independent films for over a decade and is the director of production for Paper Street Pictures, a production company based out of Austin, Texas. She lives here in Anchorage and was kind enough to stop by our studio to speak with ATMI producer Cat Whited about working on Shelby Oaks. In their conversation, Ashleigh talks about the movie's journey from a simple pitch to getting theatrical distribution, her love of independent horror films, and other projects she has in the works. They spoke on November 12, 2025. Host: Deacon Laurance Theme music is by Kendrick Whiteman with additional music from Devin Shreckengost. Hi everyone, happy Tuesday! You didn't think I could keep Michael Trucco away for long, did you? The last time I had Michael on the show, it was audio-only, so if you've been dying to see his beautiful face, today's your lucky day! I first met Michael on Battlestar where he played Samuel T. Anders, but we have stayed close over the years. As an actor, he has been on a role recently— you may have seen him as Sean Del Monte in The Rookie, Luke Leone on Fire Country, or in one of Mike Flanagan's recent projects, from Life of Chuck, to Fall of the House of Usher, to Midnight Mass. Why is Michael Trucco in all of these amazing projects, and many many more? Because he's the BEST and literally everyone wants to work with him! We have so much fun catching up in this episode. JLB concludes his deep dive of "The Life of Chuck," by exploring how the themes of disconnection, simulation theory, 'main character energy' and the human condition make this film the cosmic horror it is.
