Oh Boy! It's Faux Horror Doc Time. The historical kind too! Yep. Our friend Plemke donated some movies to put Christina through hell. No.. but maybe.. This week we watched and review The Last Broadcast (1998) the movie that actually beat The Blair Witch Project to the faux doc punch. About of a group of cable access guys researching LIVE the legend of The Jersey Devil but only one of them comes back alive. What happened to the others? We find out and talk about the movies historical value too. Then we take on a movie that had some troubles getting released. The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007). Another faux documentary very much in the same vein as The Last Broadcast about thousands of torture tapes they find belonging to one of the most prolific serial killers of all time in the 90's. The end of this one may piss you off or just surprise you. We talk about both of these movies this week and why Christina is none too happy about it. JOIN US! This week, we review the cult classic mockumentary, The Poughkeepsie Tapes. A film that took 10 years to release after production because it was too extreme. Does it live up to the hype?
On this first episode of Views from Michael's Window, Sophie explains how she is “above” jump scares. Talia argues how Insidious is a “compelling” story. And Kelsey anxiously tries to keep us on track. We had a blast recording this episode! There may be a few bumps in the road, having it be our first ever recording, but we hope you enjoy and give it a listen! Three friends get together and love to watch horror movies. After discussing countless theories, opinions, plot-twists, performances, etc. we decided to broadcast our conversations. In this first episode, we tackle our favorite, least favorite, and scariest movies and our opinions. We discuss multiple films so there are spoilers throughout. It's the very 90th episode of Forsaken Cinema Podcast!! We've come to the end of Anthology April!! And we were only 1 episode short! Sorry, VHS. Maybe next time… Anyways, to close out the month, we talk about John Carpenter's “Body Bags” from 1993. While not all of the 3 segments are amazing, we agree that this is definitely a fun anthology movie full of memorable cameos, great little stories, and is absolutely worth checking out. Oh, and we probably spend way too much time gushing over John Carpenter as the ghoulish coroner host of the wrap around who makes terrible puns while he sips on formaldehyde. And, y'know, just how great John Carpenter is in general. In today's episode I have another movie on the disturbing list called The Poughkeepsie Tapes. A bit of a mash up of sub genres but mainly found footage. Should it be on the list?
Dave, Brandon, and Christian get into some crazy clown action, as well as discuss The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Intro / Rant 0:00 - 36:33 Clown (2014) 36:33 - 1:15:07 The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) 1:15:07 - 2:05:30 Terrifier (2017) 2:05:30 - 2:46:45 Thanks for Listening!
In this episode, we tackle the world of Found Footage with John Erick Dowdle's pseudo-documentary The Poughkeepsie Tapes. This is an interesting and notable film if for nothing else than its strange release history and the urban legend spawning notoriety that it gained; which we eagerly dive into. Jason charts the film's reputation of being difficult to handle and where it sits in the pantheon of "extreme" horror cinema among other infamous titles. Michael points out the various true crime connections and possible inspirations on the narrative to be found with other famous serial killers. Meanwhile, Dustin threatens to derail the whole show as he gets way too hung up on the particular events of the story and the characterization of our leading serial killer. And so much more!
