March 11 2020 Yesterday a busload of WCI ELLs went to Eastwood for the second annual WRDSB ESL/ELD English Speech Competition. Congratulations to the six WCI participants. The following won the WCI speech competition in their category: Fahad S., Shin-you D., Far-doe-sa A., Ali K. and Ab-dul-ma-jid A. All six represented WCI proudly at Eastwood yesterday. The competition has been on-going, weekly for over a month and was written in an almost dead, obscure language called Smalltalk. Ask them about it! A fantastic accomplishment. Also, your computer and email account will be disabled shortly after you leave or graduate, so don’t forget to back up all your important data and email. The project began in response to recent terrible aggression in the world. Those, on the wall, stand for peace in their daily lives and in the world. They also stand in solidarity with all our students and staff who continue to be impacted by war. It's a small act, but it is something. If you would like to be on the wall, come to guidance at lunch Wednesday or Thursday. Let's build this wall...of peace! December 19 2019 Congratulations to this week's athletes of the week Dahir A. and Kristina G. Dahir is a grade 10 student on the Jr. Boys Basketball team and is a very valuable player that lead the team to some great wins last week. Kristina is a grade 9 student on the Jr. Girls Volleyball team. She is a really consistent hitter who always dives for the ball, never letting it touch the ground and is a very valuable rookie player. Great job Dahir and Kristina. Congratulations to Ms. Campbell's homeroom for donating the most to Holidays are for Helping! Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this holiday season better for our community. When working on a Chromebook, closing the lid of the device while you are logged in will cause the Chromebook to automatically lock the screen and force you to input your password once the lid is reopened. On Wednesday, December 11th at lunch time in the auditorium the GSA will be showing the CBC documentary Disrupter Conductor featuring one of our past and loved teachers, Mr. Batholemew-Poser. The documentary is about his own journey as a human and also his collaboration project between the classical music and drag-queen communities. The entry fee of $1-2 will go to WCI's Pride Week. In Monday's game against Bluevale, Lauren scored the game winning goal, leading the girls to a 4-3 victory. Tomison is a grade twelve athlete on the Sr boys basketball. His sharp skills and amazing shot lead him the being a second team all star in one of the biggest tournament in the province. Congrats to Lauren and Tomison! Would you like to make a seasonal card and matching box? This activity is open to all school members, students and staff. Tuesday at lunch, Dec 10 and Tuesday Dec 17th. Pictures have been uploaded. The activity is free but you need to bring some supplies. Bring your own glue, card stock (2 pieces, full sheets) and patterned paper (1 piece full size), coordinating twine or ribbon (optional). This could just as easily be a birthday set. We will meet in Rm 218 and move if we need more space. Attention all Chromebook users: On the morning of Friday December 6, 2019, a new Chromebook security policy will be implemented to help protect all WRDSB G Suite accounts. When working on a Chromebook, closing the lid of the device while you are logged in will cause the Chromebook to automatically lock the screen and force you to input your password once the lid is reopened.
