The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will now be required to present a proposal to repeal the high-priority fleets and drayage requirements of the ACF. A public hearing on this proposal needs to be held before October 31st. Regarding potential tariff changes, reports suggest the Trump administration may cut tariffs on China imports from a current broad rate of 145% to as low as 50%. While the White House has dismissed this as conjecture, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to meet with Chinese officials for trade talks soon. Details of the UK trade deal indicate increased access for agricultural products, chemicals, machinery, and other goods from both countries. The agreement, which still requires Congressional approval, maintains a baseline 10% U.S. tariff on most goods from the UK but includes specific provisions for items like steel, aluminum, beef, and auto imports. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Geeta Narlikar from UCSF about her work on chromatin remodeling, Heterochromatin Protein 1, and the molecular mechanisms that influence the genome. The conversation starts with a pivotal paper from the early days of Dr. Narlikars research career, titled "Distinct Strategies to Make Nucleosomal DNA Accessible," focused on two ATP-dependent remodelers, BRG1 and SNF2H. Here, she notes that while both enzymes operate similarly, they generate different outputs and play distinct biological roles within the cell. The research revealed that BRG1 is more aggressive in altering nucleosome configuration, aligning with its role in transcription activation, while SNF2H showed a more refined approach in the formation of heterochromatin. Transitioning to her work at UCSF, she emphasized the importance of collaboration and mentoring within a research group. Her focus then shifted towards the ACF ATP-dependent chromatin assembly factor, hypothesizing how ACF measures nucleosome distance—an inquiry that led to exciting insights regarding dynamic enzyme behavior. This includes findings that ACF operates not through a static ruler mechanism but rather through a kinetic mechanism, thus continuously adjusting nucleosome positioning based on DNA length during chromatin assembly. Dr. Narlikar also delved into her studies on heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1), highlighting how HP1 recognizes methylation marks and assembles on chromatin to facilitate gene silencing. This segment of the discussion underscored her shift to studying phase separation and its implications in the organization of chromatin. Notably, her lab made significant advancements in understanding how HP1 forms phase-separated droplets, a finding that was independently corroborated by other laboratories, demonstrating the utility of collaborative scientific inquiry. In discussing the nuances of chromatin dynamics, Dr. Narlikar also introduced her investigations into the INO80 complex, detailing its distinct mechanism for nucleosome movement compared to other remodelers. Each remodeling complex, as she elucidated, has unique catalytic capabilities while still utilizing similar biochemical foundations, highlighting the diverse regulatory roles these proteins play within cells.   References Racki LR, Yang JG, Naber N, Partensky PD, Acevedo A, Purcell TJ, Cooke R, Cheng Y, Narlikar GJ. John Forsyte has led Pacific Symphony since 1998, during which time it has emerged as the largest orchestral institution founded in the U.S. in the past 50 years. Under his leadership, the Symphony has grown in national and international stature. Pacific Symphony made its debut at Carnegie Hall in 2018 as one of two orchestras invited to perform in Philip Glass' 80th birthday celebration. That same year, the Symphony embarked on its first tour of China, performing in five major cities. The 2017-18 season culminated with the Symphony's first nationally televised appearance on PBS's Great Performances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Forsyte spearheaded innovative community engagement efforts, including hundreds of video productions for schoolchildren and nonprofit partners. The Symphony also launched Symphony on the Go, a mobile stage concert series offering free performances in neighborhoods throughout the region. For its dedication to serving the community during this challenging time, Pacific Symphony was recognized as the Nonprofit of the Year for the Central/South Orange County region. Forsyte's decades-long collaboration with Music Director Carl St.Clair has pioneered new concert formats and audience engagement methods, helping build an audience base that better reflects the demographics of Orange County. These initiatives include semi-staged opera productions, annual children's offerings, the innovative Café Ludwig chamber music series with Orli Shaham and Pacific Symphony principal musicians. A major milestone in Forsyte's tenure was the creation of the American Composers Festival (ACF). The festival has featured thematic and contextual programs, world premieres, commissioned works, and performances of rarely heard pieces, highlighting the Symphony's commitment to innovative and compelling programming. Over the years, the ACF has garnered critical acclaim and featured prominent composers such as John Adams, Philip Glass, and William Bolcom, and has attracted a wide range of audiences, further solidifying Pacific Symphony's reputation as a leader in promoting American music. During Forsyte's tenure, Pacific Symphony became the only orchestra in California to receive a James Irvine Foundation New California Arts Fund Grant. This supported the creation of the Building Communities Concert Series, featuring cultural celebrations such as Lunar New Year, Nowruz, and a free family festival around the Lantern Festival, further expanding the Symphony's engagement with the region's diverse communities. Pacific Symphony has expanded its community engagement programs, creating transformative initiatives like arts-X-press (a middle school arts immersion camp), Heartstrings (a partnership with 47 nonprofit organizations), the free Lantern Festival, Strings for Generations in partnership with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, and Santa Ana Strings. Under Forsyte's guidance, the Symphony's award-winning music education offering, the Freida Belinfante Class Act program, has grown from 7 to 30 schools. A strategic priority during Forsyte's tenure has been the expansion of the Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles program. This initiative now includes four distinct groups: Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings, and Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band. Together, these ensembles serve over three hundred students annually, offering exceptional training and performance opportunities for young musicians across Southern California. The program's transformative impact is demonstrated by the high rate of students accepted into leading music conservatories and universities. Under Forsyte's leadership, Pacific Symphony has maintained a balanced budget for more than two decades while significantly increasing its fundraising efforts. Contributed income has grown fivefold, and the organization has raised an additional $35 million for its endowment during this period. Forsyte's contributions to the arts have been widely recognized. He has been honored with the Helen M. Thompson Award from the American Symphony Orchestra League and the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award by Arts Orange County. He currently serves on the Chief Executive Roundtable at UC Irvine and the boards of Arts Orange County and Orange County Music and Dance. -- Critical Mass Business Talk Show is Orange County, CA's longest-running business talk show, focused on offering value and insight to middle-market business leaders in the OC and beyond. What will a new administration in Washington mean for American children, particularly the most vulnerable? This week, Naomi and Ian are joined by Lynn Johnson, founder of All In Fostering Futures and former Assistant Secretary of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) during the first Trump administration. Lynn explores the federal government's role in influencing child welfare at the state level and highlights how reducing regulations and compliance burdens can enable child welfare workers to focus more on serving children and families directly. She reflects on ACF's focus during the first Trump administration, particularly its efforts to prioritize permanency in order to improve long-term outcomes for children in foster care. Lynn also discusses the need to revisit certain policies around kinship care introduced during the Biden administration. She also argues that some of the Biden administration's rules limited state governments' ability to collaborate with faith-based organizations to support foster children. A history of God's faithfulness and supernatural provision before and during Pastor John Wasserman's forty years of ministry in Airport Christian Fellowship. This church in Bonaero Park was known as the black hole and the pastor's graveyard, since about 15 pastors who took on this church crashed and burned during the first 20 years of its existence. God's faithfulness has been the foundation or bedrock carrying Pastor John for the forty years of his ministry in this church, and that is also true for us in every area of our lives, whether it be in our jobs, businesses or personal spiritual walk with God. God's faithfulness stops us from being consumed by difficulties, his mercies never fail but are new every day. Faithfulness is a core attribute of God, part of his nature, and it is established in heaven. It is unchanging, regardless of circumstances. His promises are certain because his character is steadfast. God's faithfulness is of covenant nature wherein He is completely committed to his promises and is unable to break his word. His promises are kept throughout a thousand generations. It behoves us to be faithful in our generation to model to the ones following us this covenant relationship. His faithfulness is demonstrated in the way He preserved Israel throughout the generations. He is also doing the same for the Church of Jesus Christ. We can also testify that God has been faithful to the church, ACF, as well as towards individual members. That faithfulness of God is not only a foundation, but it also sets the course for great assurance and faith in Him for the next forty years. God's faithfulness has shaped our personal walk with Him. Faithfulness is a landmark of maturity for believers because it reflects the character of God. The faithfulness of God should inspire in us a greater commitment to- and deep gratitude in our hearts towards him.

Last month, as another 30 days of war passed in Ukraine, Russian activists, economists, and politicians in the exiled anti-Kremlin opposition spent much of their time arguing about a banking scandal from the last decade. The debate has been as mystifying to outsiders as it is confusing to those without an education in finance.  With help from Ilya Shumanov, the general director of Transparency International-Russia in exile, The Naked Pravda breaks down the squabbling and criminal stakes at the heart of the scandal involving Probusinessbank, the Anti-Corruption Foundation, and activist Maxim Katz. This is a recording provided by Adirondack Christian Fellowship of Dave's guest teaching on Psalm 102. Given at ACF on Sunday September 15th, 2024. Theme: Bring your Burdens This is one of the Penitential Psalms, which is a psalm in which the author shows a penitent heart, they confess their brokenness, their sin, and their need for God's forgiveness. Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143 are all categorized as penitent psalms. Psalm 51 as you may recall is King David's lament after being caught in his sin with Bathsheba & Uriah the hitite. This is also a Messianic psalm, and I will show you why. There are three segments to this psalm: Vv 1-11 - Personal Lament Vv 12-22 - Future hope Vv 23-28 - Eternal God Psalm 102.1-11 What do you think this writer is going through? What is his distress? Terminal cancer - June of 2023 - Steve Beck. Glioblastoma Depression. Psalm 42.3 says, “My tears have been my food day and night” The Sorrow of Unrepentant, un delt-with Sin. Psalm 102.12-22 Future hope What a turn in the text. We go from a lament in total pain and anguish to a Parise., “You Lord sit enthroned forever, your renown endures through all generations.” CONTEXT Whenever we study the Bible we must always ask about the context; WHO wrote this, WHO did they write it to? WHEN was it written? WHERE was it written from and where was it written to? Once we know these things we will be better informed to ask the Holy Spirt WHAT we are supposed to do with this information and HOW we can apply it to our lives. What is ZION? 2 Sam 5.7; Psalm 2:6; 48:2, 11-12 & 132:13; Jer 31.6; Isa 40.9; Jer 31.12; Zec 9.13 Psalm 102:13,16,21 In the midst of this poets personal lament of anguish to the Lord he calls out and says, “I am going through this pain, but you rule soverough over all, our beloved Jerusalem has fallen, and its people in Exile, but you are in charge and you will see it rebuilt, both its walls and its people.” V18, “Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.” The nation of Israel is proof of God's existence No other people group in the world's history has been whipped out, destroyed, and come back. A language gone extinct and then come back. The Israelites are God's people and a study of the prophecies in the Bible in conjunction with world history is the closest actual proof we can have of God's existence. Moving on… Psalm 102.23-28 - Eternal God V23-24 - a return to a personal lament - “he broke my strength, he cut short my days.” and a plee - “do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days.” A personal cry out followed by an acknowledgment of who God is, he is the eternal creator that will go on forever. This world is going to end, but you are not. We see here a prophetic message of what the future holds for our earth. Isa 34:4 Mat 24:35 2Pe 3:7-10 How is this a Messianic Psalm? Heb1.10-12 Heb 1.1-2; Heb 13.8 Concluding Psalm 102 Psalm 55.22 - “Cast your burden on the Lord and he shall sustain you.” --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ironsheep/support

If disturbance kills those taller plants, replacements regrow from the ground and add to the fuel. Prescribed burns are a fire mitigation tool used with the aim of reducing fuel load to minimise the intensity and severity of fires.  However, while prescribed burns can sometimes decrease flammability in the short term, the way they disrupt forest ecosystems can create longer periods of additional flammability.  “Very frequent burning close to homes or control lines could create defendable spaces, but large, remote and infrequent burns maintain the landscape at maximum fire risk because they undermine the natural controls that forests place on fire," Associate Professor Zylstra said. The remote areas that burn have often been extensively logged eg Eden NSWRECENT MESSAGE FROM BOB BROWN FOUNDATION JULY1STAn end to native forest logging should have happened more than a decade ago but this list is another killing plan to feed export woodchippers, Malaysian timber company Ta Ann, and Victorian sawmills that have no social licence,” Jenny Weber, Bob Brown Foundation's Campaigns Manager said.“Kilometres of new wilderness-destroying roads will be slashed into ancient forests that have never seen a chainsaw, including taxpayer-funded roads into untouched Takayna rainforests and 6km into the Wentworth Hills near Lake St Clair. Clearfell operations in areas essential to the critically- endangered migratory Swift Parrot have been drafted despite the threat that poses to the species,” said Erik Hayward, Bob Brown Foundation Campaigner. “Lines on maps have been drawn that carve up some of the most remarkable natural landscapes this globe has to offer. For the defence of our natural world we will remain committed and defiant in the face of this complete abandon,” said Erik Hayward.“Over the last six weeks, hundreds of Australians joined the largest protest against native forest logging in Tasmania in the last decade, in Takayna. Prime Minister Albanese needs to immediately put an end to such native forest logging in Australia, which is requested by more than 75% of Labor's voters,” said Jenny Weber. Don't look away from methane :  An investigation by ACF and the global non-profit Clean Air Task Force last year detected methane escaping from more than 100 sources at 35 industrial sites in Queensland and NSW.  “When it comes to rapidly reducing Australia's most potent climate heating pollution, cutting methane emissions from the coal and gas industry is low hanging fruit.”Methane emissions are believed to account for about 30% of the global temperature rise(link is external) since the industrial revolution.  David Rovics' new album of songs was composed between October and December 2023He says "  I wrote them to bear witness to the genocide of the Palestinian people that continues by the hour as I publish this album."Hear the drones above your headWhat were the last words that she saidBefore she joined the thousands deadAs the bombs rain down

As I'm sure I've said on the show before, there's no amount of money that could convince me to go back and relive my teenage years. But I do genuinely love and have so much empathy for kids in this phase of life and all that it entails, which is why I'm so happy to share today's conversation on the show. I had a chance to sit down with renowned parenting and childhood development expert Ellen Gallinsky, who has just published a phenomenal book called The Breakthrough Years: A New Scientific Framework for Raising Thriving Teens. Ellen spent nearly ten years talking with teenagers about what they think about, what they would like to know, how they feel, and perhaps most interestingly, what they would like adults to understand about them. She shares her discoveries in The Breakthrough Years, and through it, offers a paradigm-shifting comprehensive understanding of adolescence. So in this conversation, we explore some what Ellen shares in her book, including why this phase of life is clouded by so many negative stereotypes and misconceptions, the pivotal brain development and skill acquisition happening during the teen years, the power of "shared solutions" problem-solving in fostering life and executive function skills, and what Ellen learned about teens' need for belonging and how we can support this essential aspect of their development.   About Ellen Galinsky Ellen Galinsky is President of Families and Work Institute, President of the Work and Family Researchers Network (WFRN), and senior advisor at ACF at HHS. Previous jobs include Chief Science Officer at the Bezos Family Foundation and faculty at Bank Street College. Her life's work revolves around identifying important societal questions, conducting research to seek answers, and turning the findings into action. Her research is focused on work-life, children's development, youth voice, child-care, parent-professional relationship, and parental development. She's the author of Mind in the Making and The Breakthrough Years. She's also authored 90 books/reports and 360 articles. Career highlights include serving as President of NAEYC, a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources, a parent expert on the Mister Rogers Talks with Parents TV series, receiving a Distinguished Achievement Award from Vassar College and the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award from WFRN.   Get Exclusive NordVPN deal here → https://nordvpn.com/tilt - It's risk-free with Nord's 30-day money-back guarantee!   Learn more about your ad choices. WordPress is a very popular tool for making websites that can be easily extended to get the job done. While the original focus of WordPress was blogs, over time other websites started being created with it through the use of plugins like WooCommerce (eCommerce sites), ACF (dynamic data-driven sites), and Elementor (sites that can be built visually). This versatility fuels WordPress' continued popularity, but also brews a community that believes it's a bloated and dated tool. Having recently make a website with WordPress, Matt takes us through a deep dive of what he believes is an identity crisis stemming from Gutenberg/FSE, no built-in disaster recovery, and limitations forcing the use of multiple plugins. Prayer is you and God talking about the things that matter most to you. In the Simple Prayers Podcast, I want to encourage you to talk to God – daily, hourly, always. Because simple prayers can change your life.  In the first ever episode, I'm sharing a simple prayer that I've been praying over my life for decades. The really amazing thing is that it's a prayer to ask God to follow what Jesus calls the greatest commandment. Since Jesus said it's a big deal, I wanted to get my life in line with it. So I turned it into my heartfelt prayer. Maybe you'd like to pray this one too? Dear God. Help me to love you. Help me to love others. Help me to love myself. Amen.  I'm praying this over my life. If you know me, you know that one thing I love to collect are vintage copies of books I adore. Around this time each year, I find myself coming to the same worn book that's perched on the bookshelf in my office: Let's Keep Christmas by Peter and Catherine Marshall. In today's podcast, I sit down to give a live reading of this book to you and yours, in hopes that this story that started as a sermon reminds you that "Keeping Christmas" is something we do when we honor Christ all year long— but especially at this time of year. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do! Wishing you and yours the Merriest Christmas and Happiest New Year.
