86: Building a Meditation App- Ann Adams, MS, RN Highlights"Two supportive practices that are accessible to anybody is their breath— that can help regulate their nervous system, just by learning different ways to breathe. And gratitude. So a gratitude practice is free, and that helps you not ignore what's negative, but helps you scan the horizon for also what's good.  If we have a dysregulated nervous system, we tend to look for what can be threatening, because that will be what saves our life. So a gratitude practice helps balance that out, that intentional practice of looking for the good." ~Ann Adams, MS, RN Ah-Ha MomentsTake your wisdom, creativity and passion and create something you've always wanted or needed“Sometimes, you don't always have the answers, you just know you need to begin.” ~ Dr. Barbara DosseyTwo supportive and accessible practices are breath and gratitudeLet your heart and inner wisdom guide you, it will never let you downYou will learn so much about yourself when you decide to dig in and do something that is fueled by your passion and desireLinks and Resources·       Integrative Nurse Coaches in ACTION! podcast·       Integrative Nurse Coach Certificate Program·       Mindfulness Meditation: Stillness Practices for Nurses Specialty Course·       CRUSH the Pain Instagram ·       CRUSH the Pain Meditation app on Google·       CRUSH the Pain Meditation app on Apple·       CRUSH the Pain website·       Ann's email·       Dean Ornish Intensive lifestyle changes for reversal of coronary heart disease (1998) article·       Candace Pert Molecules of Emotion bookIntegrative Nurse Coach Academy I Integrative Nurse Coach FoundationWe provide nurses with a global community for learning, networking, and reconnecting. How are parents meant to believe that the loss of a child is all part of God's plan? Grief is a difficult journey for everyone, but it can feel especially challenging when it's accompanied by a feeling of losing yourself or your faith. My guest today, Emily Ann Adams, had this exact experience after the passing of one of her twin boys, Aidan.  Faced with three little children under 5 to look after, including Aidan's brother Alan who was born at 32 weeks, Emily made a courageous decision; to dive deep into her grief to understand it better. In the process, she helped dozens of other families navigate their own grief through her incredibly moving book: Is There No Other Way?: Exploring Growth Through Grief. This episode is vulnerable, raw, inspirational and serves as a reminder that our faith is something we can choose every day. Emily's advice reminds us of the power of connecting with others while respecting that everyone experiences grief differently.  Key Takeaways with Emily Ann Adams Grieving the loss of a baby during pregnancy  Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome  Navigating the loss of a child, especially a twin Losing your faith through the loss of a child  Learning from the pain and choosing to believe in a reason  The importance of respecting others and their choices Finding connection through shared experiences Establishing time limits to talk about grief  Using journaling and writing as a healing tool  How to rediscover hope while healing  Change the lenses through which we view our experiences Finding gratitude in the lives we have  Finding utility in pain and turning it into a tool  Show Notes: Get Full Access to the Show Notes by visiting: MatteasJoy.org/75. Carrie Pearce on how to creatively grow as an artist

Arts To Hearts Podcast

This week on our Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora invites Carrie Pearce to talk about her artworks. Carrie, who is a passionate painter, discusses how her art has evolved in the past few years, and how she overcame her creative block. Carrie's artwork mainly comprises of portraits and paintings of dolls. Her art style is very reminiscent of the 16th century art with its realism and focus on human form. Recently, she has somewhat changed her artistic expression by incorporating materials such as beads, fabric, embroidery etc. in her paintings. Her transition came after COVID, after she went through a massive creative block. However, she managed to find her path again, and since then, has been creating some truly magnificent art pieces.   Over the past few years, Carrie has undergone struggles of her own as she transitioned through her artistic expressions. However, she has embraced this change with open arms, and welcomes art collectors who also appreciate her evolving style. Talking about her childhood, Carrie recalls painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. From being inspired by Ann Adams to being fascinated by DaVinci's art, her styled can be described as ‘imaginary realism'. She sees her art as ‘emotional portraits' that are inspired by turn of the century photos that we often find at antique stores. Carrie has been featured both internationally and nationally, including Fine Art Connoisseur, and has a website dedicated to reviving realism in fine art. Tune in to this week's podcast as Carrie talks about accepting her inner artist's transition, how she found her way back to her true self, and what does her creative process look like.   We have an open call for artsits to join our "Emerging Woman Artist Award". When a man's past came back to haunt him more than 30 years later, his employer, the Sheboygan County Sheriff, stuck up for him. The public, and more so the man's coworkers, however, were horrified. The crime the man committed in Fort Worth, Texas was unspeakably gruesome and though he served 13 years of his 40 year sentence, many thought it wasn't enough. Unfortunately, we could find very little about Macias's victim, Julie Ann Adams.

‘Everybody lives in a cage. Whether they know it or not is the question. I think that knowing that you in live in a cage is what ultimately sets you free, But even if you don't know that you live in a cage, you know that there must be more to life than this.' – Terry-Ann Adams Women are often not the protagonists of their own stories. Terry- Ann Adams in her debut novel reputes this, Those Who Live in Cages captures the interior lives of five women in Eldorado Park, a Coloured township in the South of Johannesburg. It is through Bertha, Kaylynn Laverne, Janice and Raquel that we experience the everyday life of Eldos and surviving in ‘the Park'. Their lives enables us go think through living as a Black women in this country. The book does not shy away from difficult issues that plague these women, such as alcoholism, domestic violence, gender-based violence, teen pregnancy. Through all this, these women try to exercise some agency. The book also has soft moments in the familial context, in the friendship and in many ways how these women find themselves in the world that was not created to benefit them. We sat with Terry-Adams to reflect on the inspiration between the novel and to reflect more deeply on the issues that are excavated in the story. This debut is a poignantly beautiful offering that adds to the canon about an often forgotten community.

The title of this podcast, "Unemployed? Become An Organic Farmer!", refers to a comment made in our interview with Ann Adams of Holistic Management International that she believes our agricultural industry will need 50 million more farmers if we are going to have a sustainable farming future. Sometime in the future (5 years, 10 years, 20 years?) the large scale, fossil fuel dependent methods of our current farming operations will be unsustainable for multiple reasons (Peak Oil, the poor soil content, etc.) The pendulum is swinging back towards the smaller scale farming and there is a desperate need for organic farmers to fill the gap. For those that are seeking employment in industries that will be much smaller in a Peak Oil environment or worse, your industry may become irrellevant, organic farming could be an excellent option. We also cover may other topics along the lines of organic farming; international as well as what is happening here domestically in the US.
