"A lot of what we do is give patients hope. Give patients hope and listen to them. And that, in itself, is so healing. I think it's so healing and transformative, ...even if they don't get to where they were before, they become the best version of themselves that they can be." ~Elizabth Sult BSN, RN, NC-BC"In conventional medicine, the question is, what's the diagnosis? And once you know the diagnosis, then there's sort of these algorithms that, you try to see if they help. But in functional medicine, once you understand what's the diagnosis, the question is, really, why? Why do you have the diagnosis? And that's where these antecedents, triggers, mediators, all these kinds of ideas come from— to get to the why. But I like to say that the antecedents, triggers and mediators are kind of like Einstein's Theory of Relativity, right? Because an antecedents from one frame might be a trigger from another frame. And so, you know, getting to the real root cause. You might think, Oh, I got to the molecular medicine cause. But actually, it was a spiritual mal-alignment that caused the biochemical issue, because it caused all this stress and strain and all that trickles down to the molecular medicine."  ~Dr. Tom Sult MD, IFMCPAh-Ha MomentsFunctional Nursing asks a different question: Not just what's the nursing diagnosis? But, why is this happening?  And what does this body need to heal? It's about raising wellness so illness has less space to take holdThe Functional Nurse listens for patterns, stories, and turning points. Elizabeth and Tom highlight how powerful it is when Nurses can really listen, and help patients connect the dots in their own health journeyFunctional Nursing and Integrative Nurse Coaching are a natural fit. When Nurses combine root-cause thinking with coaching presence, patients feel seen, supported, and empowered to take steps that fit into their busy livesThe nervous system matters deeply. Functional Nurses learn about how long-term stress and fight-or-flight affect digestion, immunity, hormones, and healing, and why joy, safety, and regulation are essential parts of careThis work restores dignity and hope for patients and nurses. Links and ResourcesFunctional Nursing: A Functional Medicine Framework for NursesFunctional Nursing + Lifestyle Nursing Dual Certificate PathwayJust Be Well websiteBook: Just Be Well by Thomas SultEmail for questions: Integrative Nurse Coach Academy I Integrative Nurse Coach FoundationWe provide nurses with a global community for learning, networking, and reconnecting. "What is homeopathy? I think a lot of people confuse it with home remedies. And it's not necessarily home remedies. It is, not garlic and using turmeric and herbs. Rather, it's its own subset of medicine. It's an energetic medicine. So everything is ultra diluted in homeopathy. So they do take a mother tincture, or a natural substance, and will dilute that to the point where it's only the energy left of that substance. So we are talking about only the energy, and the way that it works is these ultra dilutions are going to help us to heal the body.”  ~Lauren Briggs BSN, RN, HWNC-BC, HN-BCAh-Ha MomentsYou can redefine nursing on your own terms. Wellness Nurse Revolution: Alison Boser RN “Everybody wants their employees to be healthy, but being healthy…What does that mean? And that means different things to different people. It's not one size fits all. It's a really flexible, definition based on your stage of life, where you are. And I think an awareness of wellness as this sort of amorphous different things at different times for people would be fantastic. I think wellness, like capital W wellness, has a bit of a negative connotation that, you must be very thin and muscular and do hot yoga or something, but that's not it. You know, it's like walking your dog. It's your grandma who can carry your groceries into her house at 95 and she gets them after she goes and plays cards! It's strong communities. I'd love to see all of the skills from Nurse coaching and all the Nurse coaches ripple out like that.” ~Alison Boser, RNAH-HA MomentsFrom Trauma to Transformation: Alison shares her journey from emergency and travel nursing to creating her dream role as a Wellness Nurse—a position she literally spoke into existence.Wellness in Action: Learn how Alison supports hospital staff with coaching, crisis response, mindfulness, group programs, and even “7-minute weightlifting sessions” to make wellness accessible in busy hospital life.Healing the Healers: Through compassion, listening, and presence, she models what it means to show up for others—and herself—while advocating for sustainable, human-centered healthcare systems.Community & Connection: From workplace book clubs to environmental wellness initiatives like composting and recycling programs, Alison weaves community care into hospital culture. The Ripple Effect: By supporting one nurse at a time, the Wellness Nurse Revolution uplifts whole teams, reduces burnout, and redefines what health looks like inside healthcare.Links and ResourcesIntegrative Nurse Coach Certificate ProgramIntegrative Nurse Coaches in ACTION! podcastSeverance by Ling MaAlison's LinkedInAlison's InstagramAlison's Substack*****Integrative Nurse Coach Academy I Integrative Nurse Coach FoundationWe provide nurses with a global community for learning, networking, and reconnecting. And it was the most moving, most like chilling experience, like every single hair on my body was standing straight, because then the next time that we met, one of them had shared that she had lost her dad, and it was unexpected. And then the hospital staff came to her and asked if he was an organ donor. And she said, ‘No, he wasn't.' And she said, ‘I had never thought about him being an organ donor, like I never thought about that process.'And she said, ‘…and it wasn't until I heard about your story that I said, Yes, I want him to be an organ donor, and he would be okay with that'. That's where change happens when they come up with their own solution. And I find through the subconscious work with hypnosis and yoga nidra, that sometimes you just really need to be in that relaxed state to have it come to the surface. We want Nurses, everyone, to feel like they are in the state of well being.  We know that well being is really static. It's like in the present moment, I'm feeling well, whereas really, self development is about well becoming, because it's a much longer journey of... and never ending, a never ending journey of well becoming, right? That always has to be a major part of who we are and what we do, because without that experience and being able to develop ourselves, we can't sit with the suffering of others and do a meaningful job with them, or take on the suffering ourselves, or, you know, all of those pieces." ~Karen Avino EdD, RN, AHN-BC, HWNC-BCAh-Ha MomentsInnovative Specialty Courses for NursesUpdate on Nurse Coaching CPT CodesRevamping the online curriculum of the Integrative Nurse Coach Certificate Program (INCCP)Renewing Alumni Connection ProgramCelebrating the success of the Integrative Nurse Coach Symposium in FloridaExcitement about the Holistic Holiday at Sea+ MORE!Links and ResourcesIntegrative Nurse Coaches in ACTION! podcastEp25: It's Time to Re-Energize Nurses!- Karen AvinoEp72: Inspiring Nurse Voices at the 2024 INCA Symposium!Ep73: More Inspiring Nurse Voices from the 2024 INCA Symposium!Holistic Holiday at SeaINCA's Specialty Course PageKaren's email Integrative Nurse Coach Academy I Integrative Nurse Coach FoundationWe provide nurses with a global community for learning, networking, and reconnecting. "In the Nurse coaching certificate course, we definitely learned about mindfulness. And you know, that sounds maybe trivial to somebody who's not familiar with Nurse coaching. Sure, we know mindfulness is research fact and very effective, but it just goes so much deeper than that. You know, we don't often as Nurses, allow ourselves enough time, time with our patients, time with ourselves, time to breathe, time to drink water, to take a rest, so allowing time and space to transpire, to let our bodies catch up with ourselves, to really hear what our patients are saying, you know, or what they're not saying.Time is... I really think mindfulness and time are so connected that we can be mindful, intentionally mindful, if we allow ourselves more time. So that is a big one. You know, I think that's a big one in this busy healthcare space, allowing more time or creating a way to allow for more of that." ~Maggie Gardner RN, BSN, HWNC-BC, CH-CAh Ha MomentsAs Nurses, we can do things to numb our emotional experiences- social media, alcohol, drugs, ignoring the things we experience - this is not serving you, it never has- maybe there is another way...There are so many pathways you can choose to take in your professional and personal life- go in the direction that lights you up- that is the best way to go- even if it's scaryYour sensitive heart is exactly what is needed to shift the way the healthcare system is being run!  You are exactly where you need to be, right now. “…the problem and what is driving Nurses from the profession in droves like never seen before— please don't talk to me about attrition, well, yes, that's a factor—the world is hemorrhaging Nurses. And that's a quote from Dr. Terrance Hill, medical sociologist, the world is hemorrhaging Nurses and the root cause for that, it's not about burnout. And please stop gaslighting Nurses about burnout resilience. Please just stop. The reason.  The root cause, according to my research, five years, four disciplines, is avoidable, Nurse Specific Traumatization. And this would be this historical trauma, where we are unknowingly transmitting." ~ Dr. Lorre Laws PhD, RN Ah Ha MomentsAll Nurses have, (or will have) experienced traumaEnough blame on Nurses. Healthcare system, wake up!  Instead of putting the blame on your employees, let's address the systemic problems that are causes of avoidable traumas… understaffing, bullying, violence, not addressing high acuity, lack of resources and still demanding exceptional care and more…Thinking that solving burnout will fix all Nursing problems is all wrong, what if what we're experiencing is because of trauma exposure? That the actions and responses we see in ourselves, and our colleagues are because the traumas are being stored in our bodies, minds and spiritsWe must learn about how trauma can and has affected us, and make this common language, and learn how to help ourselves so we can begin to heal and insulate our nervous systems from further injuryLinks and ResourcesIntegrative Nurse Coaches in ACTION! podcastNurse Trauma Healing PodcastEpisode 79: Together We Can Stop Shame and Blame in Nursing with Kristy MeyerNursing Our Healer's Heart bookLorre's websiteDr Karen Foli Middle Range Theory of Nurses' Psychological TraumaIntegrative Nurse Coach Academy I Integrative Nurse Coach FoundationWe provide nurses with a global community for learning, networking, and reconnecting. So how does this food feel for me in my body? How does eating in this way feel for me and my body? What are the underlying needs associated with various body signals?"  ~Tiffany North, BSN, RN, INC, Certified Intuitive Eating ProfessionalAh-Ha MomentsNurses can do sooo many things with their careers!Nursing careers can help us shift into different directions as we learn more about ourselves, and sometimes we don't know exactly where it will lead us and we still trustLearning to slow down can feel very uncomfortableFood and relationships with food can be a very common area of focus for every human beingPeople's relationship with foodIntuitive eating is letting go of ‘shoulds' around food, or, this food is good, or this food is bad.Nurses are layering in all types of education, experiences and creativity into our Nursing practice in safe and appropriate waysOur society is pressurized with ‘should's about food, body image and relationships with food and our bodiesIntuitive eating helps us look internally to see how past experiences affect us today and help us unravel and reconnect to ourselves andIt can be very powerful to ask your body what you're experiencing.  What sensations are you experiencing?  When we can listen and be curious with compassion and kindness, we can draw on our own wisdomFollow the whisper, honor that yes, and you are the person who is charge of your own satisfaction and honoring yourselfLinks and ResourcesIntegrative Nurse Coach Academy Nurse Coach Certificate ProgramCoach Tiffany RN websiteCoach Tiffany's QuizHow to become an intuitive eating counsellor blog***** Thank you for listening. 64: Regulating the Nervous System as Nurse Coaches- Ellie Monjoseph, RN, BSN, NC-BC Highlights“Are you fighting something? Are you fleeing? Are you, what's called, collapse or shutdown, and just trying to figure out where we're at with our nervous system, so we can support ourselves? It's plugging in some of the missing pieces that an unresolved stress takes away from us. It kind of masks or clouds our vision of ‘where am I?'. Because when you think of when you're connected, when you're joy-filled, when you're present, you can make decisions very easily.” ~ Ellie Monjoseph BSN, RN, NC-BCAh-Ha MomentsNursing experience gives you a front row to witnessing humanityListen to where you are being called… you can go in whatever direction you chooseIt's important to continue to do your own inner work to support yourself, to understand yourself more deeplyFear, imposter syndrome, people pleasing, and the inner critic can sound really loud when we don't address our unique, deep needsAn inner critic is typically a voice that is not yours, from your pastConnecting to your heart space, a purposeful pause, to connect with yourself.  What do you need right now?  What does your heart say right now?  This voice is a calm, kind voice that will help you move into the next space that you need right now. It's a power move to ask for help!  It's vulnerable to do, but it creates a cushion of a supportive community around usWhat is this urge to flee?  The sympathetic system, fight, flee, shutting down… wanting to change jobs, move, give up, etc.  Bringing awareness to self is imperative to understand and recognize how we're responding so we can take a purposeful step that is truly best for youHealing begins when we realize we're interconnectedLinks and ResourcesIntegrative Nurse Coach Certificate Program with the Integrative Nurse Coach AcademyIntegrative and Holistic Specialty ProgramsFree to Live Wellness - Ellie's websiteEllie on Instagram***** Thank you for listening. Right? Once I started to learn that language, I realized that it had been something I've really suffered with my whole life.Through Nurse Coaching and all the tools that I learned in my Nurse Coaching program, I was able to start to guide my private clients and my debriefing clients through that process where I think, again, just opening up the conversation, you know? And making people feel like they're less alone. How to Take Nurse Coaching Anywhere!- Deborah McElligott, DNP, ANP-BC, AHN-BC, HWNC-BC, CDE Highlights"Coaching adds the component of not knowing.  It was so powerful for me because as an NP, you had to be the expert. You know, as a Nurse, you have to be an expert. You can't give the wrong medication, you'll kill somebody. You have to be perfect. And this not knowing part of coaching, where you can hold the space for your client, your patient, your peer, and help them discover their best way of becoming who they need to be, was really powerful.
