This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have a very special guest who is reinventing the art world with her creative act. Lisa Ray is not only an actor, author, and writer, but she is also the co-founder of TheUpsideSpace (TUS), a curator-led digital art platform that spotlights artistic expressions from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. In this episode, Charuka and Lisa talk about putting yourself out there as a creative and why it's important to create an inclusive art ecosystem. Lisa describes herself as a creative and wanderer, someone who never stopped exploring and refused to be confined to one creative label. While many know Lisa for her amazing acting chops, Lisa considers writing as her primary mode of expression and has also published her memoir “Close to the Bone”. She has also written numerous articles for magazines in India such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, etc. Over the years, Lisa has not lost touch with her creative side and is constantly finding ways to connect back to it. One such example is Lisa's latest endeavor, TheUpsideSpace, which focuses on bridging the gap between traditional and digital arts. By focusing especially on art from places like Bhutan and Laos, TUS is making sure that the art world can become more inclusive towards artistic expressions that normally do not get as much spotlight as they should. The world is filled with creative minds, and all we need to do is think outside the box to create a space where all forms of art are welcome! Lisa is a huge proponent of reimagining and reinventing your modes of expression, and the path she has chosen as a creative is an inspiring one. She admits that TUS is ahead of the curve and that in itself should encourage anyone who also wants to bring about tangible change in the art world. TheUpsideSpace has put together some marvelous exhibitions so far, so do check it out on their official . In the meantime, tune in to this week's entire episode and listen to Lisa talk about TheUpsideSpace and why she isn't afraid of being vulnerable! Arts to Hearts Project is thrilled to announce the launch of our new call for art for a virtual exhibition, accompanied by the creation of an exquisite artist's book. This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we are hosting Nicholas Wilton who is the founder of the Art2Life Creativity workshops and classes. In this episode, Nicholas talks about finding joy in his work, the limiting beliefs artists have, and the vulnerable moment in his life that pushed him toward becoming the creative visionary he is today! Nicholas has always been an artist, and as he gained experience from his own journey, he decided to help others achieve that as well. He started with small destination workshops and taught online. With the assistance of his team, he helps people find who they are as artists. In the meantime, Nicholas has not forgotten his passion and continues to make art in his own studio. Something Nicholas has learned over the years is that artists have little faith in themselves, and that is something that can really hinder their growth. Nicholas thinks that artists today are limited by the belief that some artists are more gifted than others. He argues that each individual has their own set of skills and is as capable as anyone else. Realizing this is the first small step you can take to build that self-confidence in yourself. Another mistake that artists often make is that they compare themselves to others and worry whether they will be able to sell art. Comparison is the thief of joy, and Nicholas thinks that it can truly shatter your self-esteem. Instead of looking at other people's art, it's important that you focus on your work and be authentic, and only then you can begin to take control of your narrative! In this podcast, Nicholas shares many more insightful tips on how you can connect with your inner artist and do what you love, so tune in and listen to the entire episode! Arts to Hearts Project is thrilled to announce the launch of our new call for art for a virtual exhibition, accompanied by the creation of an exquisite artist's book. This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have Liza Zhurkovskaya as our guest. Liza is an art curator and art advisor. For the past nine years, Liza has been working with corporate and private clients where she assists them in building their collections. Now, she has her own online gallery which supports artists and better assists her clients with acquiring original art and curating their collections. In this episode, Charuka and Liza talk about emerging artists in the digital age, struggles in the art world, and curating for ATH Magazine issue 6. Liza was born in Russia and moved to Canada when she was 17. Once in Canada, Liza felt an instant connection with the galleries and museums. It was when she had her first gallery job that she realized that this could be a great fit for her. She felt confident about handling the artists and their needs, and that is the skillset someone like her needs to be successful at what she does. Talking about having multiple ventures, Liza admits that she doesn't see it as debilitating, rather, it's an advantage because if something financially doesn't work one month, she can work a little bit more on another thing and vice versa. This also helps keep her motivated to grow and aim bigger. For the emerging artists out there, Liza has a positive outlook to share. She thinks that being an emerging artist in today's age of social media is an advantage as they can choose their own route. Such artists have the option to decide whether they want to sell on their own or if they want to be with galleries. The possibilities are endless, and that can prove to be a big advantage. Liza is also our curator for the ATH Magazine issue 6. She has a few tips to share for those who want to be featured in our upcoming magazine, so listen to the entire podcast to know more about how you can get selected! Arts to Hearts Project is thrilled to announce the launch of our new call for art for a virtual exhibition, accompanied by the creation of an exquisite artist's book. This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have Anupa Mehta as our guest, who is a force to be reckoned with in the contemporary art world. In this episode, our host Charuka Arora asks Anupa about her experience in the art world, the shift has she seen over the years, and her own relationship with artists and art collectors. Anupa has been in the art world for quite some time now, and she has closely witnessed how things have changed, something she touches upon in this podcast. Anupa has had an illustrious career. With three decades of experience as an editor, art consultant, curator, and gallerist, Anupa is not only trained in journalism and arts management, but she also holds a Master's degree in Narrative Therapy. She is also the founding editor of Art India magazine, and the author of INDIA 20, a book of interviews with leading contemporary Indian artists. Anupa started her career at a time before the evolution of the digital world, and so she misses the slowness of life and how people were able to have a conversation face to face. While she enjoys her work as much as she did all those years ago, she can also sense a shift in perspective and behavior among the younger artists. For those contemporary artists, Anupa has only one piece of advice and that is to ‘be adaptable'. Listening to Anupa, it becomes clear why and how she was able to excel in her career path. As a gallerist, Anupa knows the art of building relationships. She values trust and integrity above all, and that is why she is able to form sustainable relationships with her clients, whether they are art collectors or artists. She still looks at the world in a way that may be described by some people as old-fashioned, but that is a good thing. It is precisely those values that have enabled Anupa to see through people and gauge their needs, and that's what makes her so good at what she does. So, tune into this week's full episode to find out more about Anupa and how she sees the art world of today! This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have James Oliver who is an artist from Philadelphia as well as the owner of the art gallery ‘James Oliver Gallery' (JOG) in Pennsylvania. James already had a successful career as an artist when he decided to open his own art gallery almost 17 years ago, something that happened quite naturally for him. Growing up, James had already spent much of his years organizing festivals, etc., and so managing a gallery was something right up his alley. In addition to that, having a spacious art studio meant he didn't need to hunt for any suitable spaces, and so he trusted his instincts and took this major step in his creative journey. For James, being an artist never came in the way of his managing his art gallery, and vice versa. Everything that he has done so far has been to sustain himself and generate enough income. For him, starting another business was just another way to support his art career. His secret to managing it all lies in the fact that he is constantly challenging himself and trying to get better at what he does. Without letting the pressure get to him, his motto is to let it all happen slowly and gradually, something that keeps his business steady. As an artist and an art gallery owner, James' motivation also comes from the feedback he gets from people, and that pushes him to continue doing what he does. He sees the value of community, as it's his hard work as well as the community effort that keeps him going. Despite JOG being a commercial gallery, according to James, people do want to help and support to make sure it's as successful as possible, and that really highlights why we as artists need to come together in support of each other. To find out more on how James transitioned from his role of an artist to a gallerist, and how he has been managing it so far, tune into this week's full episode! This week on the Arts to Heart Podcast, our host Charuka Arora has an insightful conversation with Richa Maheshwari, who is a designer on a mission to bring back the arts and crafts that are fading due to the advent of fast fashion. Richa has been in the software services industry by profession, where she worked as a product manager for a German company for almost 16 years. As COVID hit, much like everyone else, Richa took a break to spend more time at home. This was her chance to restart and explore, and she took it. After going to an office for so many years, Richa longed to be on the ground where she could do something much more substantial and tangible, and that is when she was able to connect to an international labor organization which marked the beginning of her life with traditional crafts. As a child, Richa was always interested in stories that were rich in culture, and now she has the opportunity to tell those stories to the rest of the world in an innovative way. With its textile legacy, Odisha has many stories to tell, and so Richa decided to direct her energy towards uplifting the local artisan community in a way that helped the artists as well as introducing their craft to the world. For Richa, it is very much about the “ability to build narratives in a fun way so that the audience is able to receive it simply”. As she built her brand, Boito, Richa has had many things to learn and unlearn. From forming trustworthy relationships with the local community to finding a balance where their culture and traditions can be shared with the rest of the world, Richa has come a long way. She has opened doors for other artists who dream of utilizing their craft in a way that doesn't succumb to the fast fashion industry. So, tune in to this week's podcast to listen to Richa and Charuka talk about the world of fashion and why it's important for us as a society to not lose touch with our roots. This week on the Arts to Heart Podcast, we have Sarah Sham as our guest. With her super successful design studio, Sarah is an inspiration to all women who aspire to build their businesses. In this episode, Charuka Arora and Sarah Sham discuss the challenges and obstacles faced by women who dare to dream big. For women, the roles are pretty much set by the patriarchal society they live in, and sometimes, they are put in a position where they must choose between having a successful career and starting a family. From realizing her self-worth to manifesting her creative dreams into reality, Sarah has great insights to offer to female entrepreneurs who are struggling to set their own boundaries and rules. With a degree in art history and interior design, Sarah has done multiple jobs where she has worked at Vogue as well as an advertising agency. Apart from doing theatre, she has also worked as a news anchor for a while, before realizing that she was meant to be an interior designer. However, belonging to a family with a legacy of its own, Sarah did feel a certain pressure. At the same time, she was determined to build something with nothing but her own hard work and skills. Ten years later, she has accomplished just that with an interior design studio that vows to provide a seamless experience to its clients. Over the years, Sarah has evolved and grown as a businesswoman and has learned to have more confidence in herself. Now, she wants to expand her business in the Middle East and focus more of her energy on business and marketing as compared to the creative aspect of it. It is as a result of these experiences that Sarah advises all women entrepreneurs to work hard and never stop. Even if they are taking baby steps, then it's enough! To know more about Sarah and her journey, listen to this week's full episode which is loaded with wisdom! On this week's Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have Quang Bao, who is a gallerist and feels passionately about art. As our host Charuka Arora sits down to interview him, the duo talks about the challenges and upsides of being a gallerist, how artists can sell their art more effectively, and the diversity and inclusion in the art world. Quang has been running his own gallery for quite some time now. He shares his process of choosing an artist and their artwork. While a painting can sometimes click, most of the time, his job revolves around seeing and predicting the potential of it all so he can make a decision. Quang also talks about the upside of being a gallerist, which is that he is given the freedom and flexibility to do his work on his own terms, something that does not exist in other fields. On the other hand, for a gallery owner, the paperwork and being behind the desk can be a difficult job. In the midst of it all, Quang tries to find a balance between perceiving things as a businessman and trying to stick to the values he and his gallery represent, which is to promote the inclusion of women and other minorities in the art world. For Quang, working with artists can also be an interesting experience as they feel everything so very deeply. He gets to be a part of their world, and he loves that. He believes that in order for artists to sell their work, it's important that they connect with other people and try to work with the gallerists instead of doing it all on their own. This week on our Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have Tanmaya Bingham as our guest who is not only amazing at creating art but also mentors and teaches younger artists. With her experience with art management, she has seen all the cycles in the art world, the good and the bad both. Now, she is using her gifts and insights to serve other artists. As our host Charuka Arora sits down with Tanmaya, the latter talks about the early stages of her art career, what her ambitions and dreams were, and how she was able to evolve and grow over the years. While Tanmaya started as an abstract artist, she shifted her focus to drawing people. Her journey as an artist consists of highs and lows, both of which have played an important role in her growth as a creative. Just like every other creative, Tanmaya also had her fair share of self-doubts, which she addressed by traveling to various places including Nepal and India. These experiences really helped shift her perspective on what she was or wasn't meant to be. For her, having a full-time art career was not a possibility until she spent some time in India, a time which helped open her eyes to the various possibilities that lay in front of her. Tanmaya believes in putting yourself out there as an artist, as it is only then that you can go through a transformation that will be beneficial to you and your creativity. She believes that the negative phases in life are as much, if not more, important than the positive phases. As artists, we must embrace life as it comes, with all that it has to offer, and only then we can unleash our true potential as creative! Tune in to this week's podcast and listen to Tanmaya talk more about her creative transitions and learning curves as an artist! This week's episode of Arts to Hearts podcast features the second part of our interview with Ki Smith, the owner of Ki Smith Gallery. Our host Charuka Arora and Ki Smith continue their conversation about taking risks, being a successful artist, and how you should always push yourself out of your comfort zone. Ki Smith is also the co-founder of Apostrophe NYC, and all of his ventures have interesting stories behind them! Much of Ki Smith's creative career was built due to his belief in himself. Even when he did not have anything to build his business with, he had faith in his abilities and his community, and he kept moving forward. At every turn of the way, he has aimed big and has gone for an option that would seem impossible to an outsider. Instead of caring about whether something was possible or not, he kept on trying different avenues and paths that would ultimately lead to him building the gallery of his dreams. Now that Ki has his own gallery, and his business is flourishing, he is beginning to think past the much-needed physical expansion of his gallery. Now, Ki wants to focus on an internal expansion as well, where he can be of more help to other artists. His thought process has become more strategic now where he wishes to put artists in a spot for more success. For Ki, having a growth mindset throughout has helped him greatly in achieving what he has today, and for that, he doesn't forget his family and friends. Ki rightly points out the importance of a community, and how it can play a monumental role in your journey, which is why, expanding your contacts and building a community is so crucial for any creative/artist. As long as you have faith in yourself, and are working hard for it, you should be fine. So, tune in to this week's episode to listen to Ki's entire interview! Welcome to the first episode of season 4 of Arts to Hearts Podcast! This week, our host Charuka Arora has invited Ki Smith where he talks about running a business in the art world and how he managed to open his own gallery. This inspirational episode contains some heartwarming stories that Ki shares with the audience, all of which demonstrate how we must do everything in our power to make things happen! Ki Smith, who was born in New York, is the owner of Ki Smith Gallery and also the co-founder of Apostrophe NYC. Ki shares with us his childhood and how he was able to choose this career path in the art industry. From working in galleries as a teen to opening his own gallery in 2019, Ki's journey definitely inspires other artists who want to start their own business. Despite all odds, Ki was able to manifest his dreams into reality by his willpower and determination. Even when he couldn't afford to rent a place, he constantly found ways and means to make it happen, even if meant selling artwork worth $50000 in five days. For Ki, being an artist is something he chose, and for that, he is grateful. He was able to become a successful entrepreneur by working for it. He is a strong believer in pushing your limits and taking risks when you can. After all, it is with such a mindset only that an artist can hope to grow, otherwise, s/he can risk being stuck in the same place for years. To have a silent mind and a deep stillness for the entirety of the meditation. But this is not true. Meditation is simply a tool to use to practice touching our stillness, to practice letting go of our thoughts, to practice being present. The true beauty of meditation is that it helps us to become more mindful of the moments of stillness we can experience throughout the day. And is the tool we can use to connect to it. Mini moments of stillness. Closing our eyes in the car when we're parked and taking deep breaths before we walk into the house. Feeling the warm water on your body during a shower with deep gratitude for the luxury. Laughing with our kids in a state of raw presence. So this morning's meditation will give you the opportunity to kickstart your day present to all the mini moments of stillness awaiting you. So breathe in, And bring your attention inward. Beginning our meditation with a wave of release, Letting go of your expectations of what this should be, What should happen, How you should feel. Let them all go, Like the leaves of a tree falling to the ground. And simply be here with your breath. PAUSE… Use your breath as your anchor to this moment, A way to bring you back when your mind calls you to dance with thoughts. Find your breath and be here. PAUSE… Breathe in refreshing oxygen, Breathe out expectations. Breathe in presence, Breathe out the thoughts. LONG PAUSE… As the day progresses, And you find yourself lost in thoughts, Caught up in the swirling movement of life, Come back here, And find your mini moments of stillness. Namaste, Beautiful.
On this week's Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have the lovely Marina Granger with us. Our host Charuka and Marina have a very fascinating conversation where they talk about feng shui, morning rituals, EFT tapping, and creating a stellar elevator pitch. Marina is an art consultant and founder of The Artist Advisory. She talks about practicing feng shui, and how her holistic approach has benefitted her in her creative life as well. For Marina, her mornings start with recording a voice memo, which consist of three steps: talking about what she is grateful for, what her intentions for the day are, and what her future dreams are. She talks about her dreams and intentions in present tense, as if they already have happened. According to her, it's a good strategy as the mind is too gullible, and making such affirmations can truly help one achieve their dreams. Marina loves to help artists out so they can realize the best strategy to carve their own path. She provides an excellent take on how artists can curate their elevator pitch, which consists of telling the clients why you do what you do, and what makes you special. In a world where selling your craft and your art can be tricky, it's always a good idea to have a fresh approach towards curating your image! Born in Ukraine, Marina moved to New York when she was seven. Marina has 15 years of experience working in the museums and galleries in New York City. With a master's degree in Art History, she has worked with artists, curators, dealers, collectors, and consultants. She shares that if she would ever have the option to open her own gallery, it would have to be in New York city! In this week's podcast, our host Charuka Arora sits down with Liz Lidgett, who is the founder and owner of Liz Lidgett Gallery + Design. As the two ladies sit down to talk about their career paths, they have an honest conversation on setting realistic goals, creating a kinder space for artists, and collecting art. Liz Lidgett began her art consultation business ten years ago, and since then, she has worked with artists, businesses, homes, and publications across the country. The reason why she opened her own gallery in the first place was because she was too passionate about the art world, and wanted to rectify the things she saw in it as problematic. For her, the art world is not just about the creating, selling and buying, but also creating a space for artists where they don't feel limited. Most of all, she wants artists to feel respected and welcomed. While Liz grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, she later moved to Los Angeles, which is known to be the art hub. However, she felt that the work she wanted to do would do well in her own community. So, she started her own business in the Midwest which caters to artists from around the world. She was able to identify the things in the industry that she would not like to have in her own business, and now she brings the same passion and excitement to the table that she wants her clients to have. For Liz, her definition of success has changed over the year, and she loves to follow her dreams while being able to spend time with her kids. Liz's experiences over the years have also provided valuable insights into the way she runs her business. For her, dealing with art and artists is not a matter of making a calculated decision, but rather the way she experiences art, and that's why we need more people like her in the art world! So, tune in to this week's podcast and listen to Liz Lidgett talk about how her passion for art drives her to be a source of inspiration for others! This week on our Arts to Hearts Podcast we have Danielle Krysa, aka The Jealous Curator, as our guest. As our host Charuka Arora sits down with Danielle to talk about grief and art, Danielle shares her journey after losing her father, and how she found the courage to continue. Danielle has been an artist for over a decade now, and while she has written books including Creative Block and Collage and Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk, she also runs an influential contemporary art blog. Danielle Krysa's other identity came into being as a result of her self-doubts in the beginning of her career. She was scared to show her work to the world and be judged for it as Danielle, and so she curated another identity where she presented her work as The Jealous Curator. Here, she felt safe from all the harsh comments and critiques. Danielle has come a long way now, where over the years, she has found it easier to reconcile her two identities and be confident in her abilities. In this episode, Danielle opens up about losing her father, and finding her voice after that. Losing a parent came with grief and the trauma, and for Danielle, it was a difficult time in her life. For a while, she struggled to return to her creative space to be an artist, and questioned the trajectory of her life. But as she learned to give herself time to heal, she began to re-discover herself. She started to use art as therapy, and slowed down instead of rushing everything. She changed her outlook towards art, and instead of creating something to sell, she began to learn to enjoy her craft and live in the moment. To listen to Danielle talk in depth about her journey towards healing and self-discovery, tune in to this week's podcast. This week on Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora sits down to have a heart-to-heart with her beloved audience. As our third season nears its end, Charuka is giving the aspiring artists some tips from her own experience in the art world. As someone who has been on her own creative journey for some time now, Charuka has learned a thing or two, and as she looks back on how far she has come, she is guiding other aspiring artists on how they can find their confidence in their abilities as an artist. If Charuka were to start her creative journey today, she would ask herself six questions to make sure she knows where her heart is so she can ensure that her creative journey goes on as smoothly as possible. For Charuka, it's important to put unwavering faith in yourself and your creativity, and for that, you need to ask yourself if you are ready to do that. Furthermore, it's important to understand that hurdles are part of the journey, and that you need to be ready to fall a million times, and get back up every single time. The third thing you need to do as a creative, is to embrace your emotions fully, no matter how difficult or uncomfortable it may feel at that moment. The fourth question you must ask yourself is whether are willing to break free from the fear of judgment. After you have broken free from the societal shackles, you must look within and ask yourself, if you are ready to write your story, as that is the most crucial aspect. And in the end, you must love and accept yourself fully, and ask yourself, “Can I be unapologetically myself?” This episode is filled with wisdom and some amazing reflection exercises, so tune in to this week's podcast and join Charuka on this exploration of what it means to be an artist! This week on our Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora has invited Carrie Scott to talk about her career as a writer, curator, art historian, and TV presenter. As Carrie and Charuka sit down, they talk about the art world, wearing multiple hats as a creative, and how women are expected to behave in a patriarchal world. Carrie started her career as a writer, but soon she shifted her focus towards the art world. Carrie's passion for helping artists was a major catalyst behind her professional decisions. From being at a writing agency to doing temporary exhibits, she has come a long way in her creative journey. What always drove Carrie was her love for arts and how she found purpose in this field. At the same time, she acknowledges the baggage that comes with being in the art world, as being an artist is not an easy job, contrary to what many people still believe. For Carrie, her career took a significant turn, when in 2009, recession happened. For her, it ended up being a blessing in disguise because Carrie was able to launch her own business at a gallery and an art consultancy. Over the past decade, Carrie has worked with numerous well known artists including Nick Knight and Marina Shacola. Carrie's approach is centered on collaboration and building meaningful partnerships. She seeks out artists who have a clear vision, and helps them navigate the art world, whether it's through exhibitions, publications, or other creative projects. In this week's episode, Carrie also talks about not just women in general, but also women in arts. Since the beginning, Carrie has noticed the stark contrast between the treatment of women and men, and she highlights how in this day and age, women still have to fight for equal pay. Discussing the place of women in today's world, Carrie calls attention to the fact that not much has changed between the 80s and now, and there is still need for a lot of change in the society. To listen to more of this insightful conversation and understand how Carrie was able to build a successful career without a definite plan, tune in to this week's podcast. This week on Arts to Heart's Podcast, our host Charuka Arora sits down with Brea Gallery's director, Katie Chidester. Katie, who has been part of the arts community for about 25 years now, talks about Brea Gallery, what it does, and why it's important to have such community-building initiatives. Katie Chidester share with us why she became a creator and what it's like working in a visual art space. Talking about being in the arts field, Katie acknowledges the hardships artists often have to face as they battle self-doubt and are expected to succeed without any help or support. For artists, it become necessary to have a community where they are not afraid to approach someone for guidance or collaboration. More people need to step up and take it upon themselves to create such an inclusive community where an artist, or a non-artist, feels welcome instead of being intimidated. Brea Gallery was set up in 1980 in Brea, California, and during the last 38 years, it has constantly strived to provide contemporary art exhibitions for artists and non-artists alike. The gallery's aim is to engage the community though aesthetic, educational, and intellectual experiences. Apart from its art exhibitions, Brea also offers artist lectures, workshops for all ages, a gift shop, and live art demonstrations. This week's Arts to Hearts Podcast is extra special as we've got not one, but two amazing guests. In this episode, our host Charuka Arora sits down with Leizel Strauss and Pegah Kargar who are the co-founders of Art Girl Rising and Repaint History. While Leizel and Pegah's individual art journey began years ago, they recently joined hands to create an enterprise that aims to challenge the gender gap in the art world and empower women and non-binary artists. In this podcast, Leizel and Pegah talk about how they both decided to use their expertise to create a joint social enterprise and how challenging it has been for them to find financial stability. For Leizel and Pegah, the number one objective from day one has always been to create a platform for supporting women and non-binary artists. That's why, every decision they have taken so far has been made to further that cause. Liezel and Pegah also had their own individual life experiences that had a huge role in influencing them to support women in arts. However, their journey has been beset by its own challenges as they navigated through the art world. Liezel launched Art Girl Rising in 2018 in order to support the female artists in the industry. On the other hand, Pegah Kargar was on her own path, where after a decade of being in the finance industry, she entered the art industry and founded Repaint History in 2018. Both of these exemplary women were doing their part in making sure that women artists had equal opportunities, until they connected online during the pandemic and instantly bonded with each other. Their collaboration has been a gift to the art world ever since! From conceiving a simple idea of highlighting women in arts to now hosting mentorship sessions for artists and donating more than $37,000 in artist funding, both Leizel and Pegah have come a long way. To find out more about the impact they are making in the art world, tune in to this week's podcast. We have an open call for artsits to join our "Emerging Woman Artist Award". This week on our Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora invites Carrie Pearce to talk about her artworks. Carrie, who is a passionate painter, discusses how her art has evolved in the past few years, and how she overcame her creative block. Carrie's artwork mainly comprises of portraits and paintings of dolls. Her art style is very reminiscent of the 16th century art with its realism and focus on human form. Recently, she has somewhat changed her artistic expression by incorporating materials such as beads, fabric, embroidery etc. in her paintings. Her transition came after COVID, after she went through a massive creative block. However, she managed to find her path again, and since then, has been creating some truly magnificent art pieces. Over the past few years, Carrie has undergone struggles of her own as she transitioned through her artistic expressions. However, she has embraced this change with open arms, and welcomes art collectors who also appreciate her evolving style. Talking about her childhood, Carrie recalls painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. From being inspired by Ann Adams to being fascinated by DaVinci's art, her styled can be described as ‘imaginary realism'. She sees her art as ‘emotional portraits' that are inspired by turn of the century photos that we often find at antique stores. Carrie has been featured both internationally and nationally, including Fine Art Connoisseur, and has a website dedicated to reviving realism in fine art. Tune in to this week's podcast as Carrie talks about accepting her inner artist's transition, how she found her way back to her true self, and what does her creative process look like. This week on Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora has the pleasure of sitting down with Ali Hval who was the Emerging Woman Artist Award Winner 2023 edition. Ali is a visual artist in Iowa who deals with fabric, installation, ceramic, and painting. Her interest in adornment and the politicization of the body is reflected through the forms and materials she uses in her artworks. In this week's episode, Ali talks about how she became an artist, what inspires her art, and how she was able to navigate her career. From painting as a young girl to going to grad school to finally starting her own art career, Ali always had a rebellious nature where she looked at the world in a different light. In many ways, her art challenges the traditional feminine and masculine dichotomy. With her pom-poms, glitters, chains, and locks, she is combining different elements and is redefining the spectrum that aims to put people in boxes. Just like other artists, balancing creativity and art has been a struggle for Ali. Being an avid muralist, Ali has completed over 40 projects in various communities across the country, projects that have provided her the financial stability she needs. However, combining her style with her murals has been a challenge for her, something she is still figuring out. Ali also touches on the subject of being the winner of the ATH emerging artist award, and how she feels about the entire process. She links it with her disappointments and rejections in the past, and how everything in her life has led her to this moment, for which she is truly grateful. This week, our host Charuka Arora invites Kaylan Buteyn, who talks about her life as an artist and a mother. Kaylan's journey is a fascinating one because she became an artist after becoming a mother. Unlike many other artists, Kaylan did not have the luxury to give her career the time she wanted to. Despite the odds, she talks about discovering her creative passions and the challenges she had to endure while juggling the roles in her personal as well as professional life. For Kaylan, it was hard to find opportunities in a small town, but she created her own path on her own terms. In this episode, Kaylan talks about the beginning of her career, how she found her true passion, and how she manages it all with three children. Apart from creating art in her studio, she is also the founder of Artist/Mother Podcast which aims to provide artist mothers a platform to share experiences and connect with each other. The podcast community has now grown and it exists as the Thrive Together Network which supports female identifying, non-binary, and trans artists through retreats and exhibitions. Working in textile, Kaylan channels her inner artists by making quilts, abstraction, domestic textiles, and collage. Unlike most artists who are drawn to blank canvases, Kaylan is drawn to materials, rips stains, and texture; these elements inspire her. Kaylan likes to play with the material she has collected over time, and the fabric compositions she makes are a direct reflection of her future and past self. In fact, it was motherhood itself that gives Kaylan her inspiration, as her maternal experience have contributed to her abstract art. Kaylan believes in materials holding memory, and through her art, she aims to explore physical representations of generational care. With quilting, dying, sewing, painting, gluing, and stitching, Kaylan creates pieces that are more than just art. Each piece tells a story and contributes in linking places, people and perceptions. To read more about how Kaylan balances her roles of being a mother and an artist, listen to this week's podcast and find out how mothers are often crushed under unrealistic societal expectations. Pallavi shares her personal journey as an artist and how she explores the grooming culture of men in Indian society.
