Now, here's a treat - a rare mix from the founder, legend and pioneer behind a special label. You know and love him, we do too... It's Zaltan! Antinote Records is an imprint which has released a huge assortment of music from some of our favourite artists here at Ransom Note. Zaltan has acted as a pivotal curator behind the label and has achieved enormous success having released music by the likes of DK, Raphael Top Secret, Domenique Dumont, Tolouse Low Trax, Geena, Alek Lee, Iueke and many more. The vision behind the label has always been to release music that is not aligned to style or genre, not restricted by preconceptions and stereotypes. As such it has been a crucial outlet for many who have chosen not to conform. Every release is varied and offers an insight into the wild and wonderful musical personality of Zaltan himself - who as you can imagine has excellent taste. Antinote is presently celebrating its 50th release in the form of Yarra River's "Frogmania" EP. However, they have more recently announced a new LP from OMMA. One you won't want to miss. We invited Zaltan to show us around his musical realm, he kindly obliged.

Elg - La Véritable Genese Recently released weirdo jazz/pop from Brussels! Have been listening to this record a lot. 3. Mammane Sani - Bodo DIY synth folk from Niger,1978. Re-released by Sahel Sounds in 2013. Each ditty as perfectly formed and heart breaking as the last. 4. Black Zone Myth Chant - Feng Jing Exoticism with attitude from Pennsylvania vie Editions Gravats and Hospital Productions 5. It's from Toulouse, and it's a 25 tracker of medieval animal themed experiments, and it costs a euro. 10. Tusken Raiders - Blolp Just out on Planet Mu 11. Shamos - 1321313132 A recent crystal panpipe bumper from Andrew Lyster's flawless Manchester-based label Youth. 12. A loose end from the hard drive 13. Blancmange - Disco-A-Bomb-Bomb 80's DIY Mini album re-released on Minimal Wave a few years back. This record is perfect in every way. I think it could be the thing I've listened to most in the last few years actually. 14. Tomorrow The Rain Will Fall Upwards - Wrack His Days The A1 from this timeless album on Blackest Ever Black a few years back. 15. Toulouse Low Trax - Ejekter One from the trilogy of EP's out on Antinote last year. He has never made a bad track 16. A loose end from the hard drive 17. African Head Charge - Depth Charge It was tough narrowing down which of Adrian Sherwood's bits I wanted to use here. 18. Phil Struck - Delta Out recently on Quiet Time outta Brooklyn. Have got a huge amount of mileage out of it. The release and label are both great. 19. Tropa Macaca - Igual a Si Another family band, this time from Portugal. Out on TTT a couple of years ago. I picked it up then but didn't realise how great it was until quite recently. 20. Bendik Giske - Adjust Was over visiting my brother in Liverpool last year and we went to an exhibition in the Fact Gallery there. It was a video/dance piece by Wu Tsang (what a name I know). Bendik Giske had soundtracked it, was proper blown away by it and it took me ages to find out who it was. At that point it was available from his personal Bandcamp but It seems to have disappeared altogether from the internet recently, so perhaps it's receiving a wider release soon. Hopefully anyway. 21. Gen Ludd - Marraskuu New Gen Ludd on Rubabdub! 22. Laurel Halo - Arschkriecher A jazzier cut from THE POP ALBUM OF THE MILLENNIUM (Dust) 23. Oliver Coates - Another Day I didn't know much about him until his collaborative album with Mica Levi last year, which is great. I came across this while going through his back catalog. No idea how it isn't more well known. Would bring any man to his knees.
Earlier this year marked the announcement of a newly launched record label from the Paris based maestro Geena, a producer whom has amassed a reputation for his intriguing, ethereal take on house and club music. Antinote, the record label run by Zaltan, has largely been responsible for helping his career to date having released five of his EP's since 2013, many of which have been widley supported and heavily played. Now as he approaches a new chapter in his career we have invited him to contribute to our mix series, it's long overdue. The first release forthcoming on Worldwide Zen is a self release under his own name of Nicolas Molina.

The last couple of years have seen D.K. emerge at the centre of a new age, ambient laced and misty sonic sphere. Taking cues from boogie and synth pop, house and funk, the Frenchman’s subtly soothing sounds have come mostly on Antinote and sound at once nostalgic but also forward looking. Musical and lush, dreamy and balearic, it is music for warm climates and laid back moments in your life. And so is the mix he has put together for us: over the course of ninety minutes it takes you from the hammock to the beach bar and on to the club. Starting with the sort of smooth and serene sounds you would expect, things get crunchier and more hard hitting as you move along through prickly house, wild analogue jams and trippy four thumpers.

Membre important du mythique label Versatile Records de Gilb'R, il collabore maintenant avec Antinote, qu'on ne présente plus. Ygal est aussi actif au sein du collectif Deviant Disco, qui regroupe de nombreux francs tireurs du disco sans paillettes comme Eva Peel, Bruce Heller, David Chauferbad, Fred Serendip, Wizæroid... L'homme fracasse aussi des dancefloors avec l'ami Vidal Benjamin au sein des Basseline Boys armé de tueries new beat. Pour ces deux heures, Ygal nous a concocté un cocktail de petites merveilles lentes et givrées entre slomo italo, proto disco et deviance balearic, sa besace remplie de wax pour affronter l'hiver.

Pour commencer l'année sur charbons ardents, Pépé Del Noche, à la tête des soirées Acid Rendez-Vous, invite son prochain guest: Iueke. Gwen Jamois aka Iueke est co-fondateur du label Antinote, avec Zaltan. Le label est un des fleurons des artilleurs électroniques de France et de Navarre. Iueke est aussi un infatigable digger qui glane plusieurs décennies de son et galettes depuis fort longtemps. Ses quatre sorties sur Antinote sont des pierres précieuses qui naviguent entre bombes pour warehouse, jams electroniques et caresses pour les oreilles. Ces fameuses tapes, sorties d'une époque où les bandes croustilles, nous ramènent à de soirées finies à 15h00 du matin, la tête perdue dans des jams analogiques sans fin. L'homme n'est pas un novice, puisqu'il était déjà les mains dans le cambouis pendant les 90's. Il anime deux heures de mix sur Rinse FM une fois par mois. Il sera l'invité de la prochaine soirée de L'Acid Rendez-Vous. Quant à notre Pépé Del Noche national, que dire que nous n'ayons pas déjà dit ? Ally is behind the Tropical party series which take place in both Glasgow and London and has seen the likes of Telephones, Marcellus Pittman, Tolouse Low Trax, Samo DJ, Wolf Muller and many more all play. Now based in London the past twelve months have seen him make appearances at Brilliant Corners, Dance Tunnel, and Oval Space alongside international excursions where he appeared as part of the Off Sonar party programme and in Greece. Quentin Vandewalle is probably better known to you as Zaltan. The French DJ is head of the Antinote label; a homebase for many upcoming artists such as Syracuse (catch them on this year’s Lente Kabinet), D.K, Dominique Dumont and Geena. It is the place where horizontal ambient, gently Balearic sounds and nostalgic house all rub up with retro design attached to it. Each EP and LP is a lovingly crafted and memorable affair that will sooth any busy brain or tired soul, and that is the case with his journeying mix for Dekmantel.
