If you've ever felt like something is missing in your school community, whether it's student engagement, teacher retention, or just a general sense of belonging, this episode is for you. Guest host Matt Pittman is talking about one of the most overlooked solutions in education. Instead of sticking with bandaid fixes for disengagement, behaviour, or burnout, Matt shares how prioritising connection can shift your entire school culture and actually make teaching feel good again. Matt is the Head of Senior School at Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs, a Catholic secondary school in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, and the author of The Connection Curriculum. An experienced educational leader and a doctoral student researching connections across school communities, Matt's experience is varied, from the leadership of curriculum teams and programs to student wellbeing, student improvement and community engagement portfolios. He has led Positive Education and student support programs and has a passion for working with students, parents, and staff to develop new understandings of the needs of young people in the 21st century. What you'll get from this episode: Why connection is the actual foundation of behaviour, well-being, and engagement. How relationships, belonging, and meaning work together to create a thriving school community. What empathic curiosity looks like in practice (and how to ask better questions). Why emotional intelligence isn't just a buzzword. The difference between inclusivity as a policy vs. inclusivity as a practice (and why most schools get this wrong). How school leaders can create real, lasting culture change (without burning out their staff). Teaching should feel good. Connection is how we get there. Tony shares his insights on why prioritising wellbeing isn't just beneficial for students but also makes teachers' jobs easier. In this episode, we cover: The interplay of staff and student wellbeing and why it's critical we focus on both at the same time Why effective wellbeing approaches should be holistic, proactive and embedded within a school's culture, rather than s a topical solution How we can approach wellbeing education for kids in schools The value of building self-awareness and emotional intelligence at a young age so students can be empowered to grow and thrive How schools and teachers can contribute towards creating a culture of wellbeing How to involve parents and the school community in the process of fostering a school culture of wellbeing About Tony Cox: Tony Cox is the founder of Wellbeing Education Solutions, an organisation dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of both students and educators. My guest this week is Dr Michelle Tytherleigh author of Positive Education at all Levels: Learning to Flourish, and we are talking about how we can use positive psychology in the classroom to students to flourish. Martin Seligman asked two questions: In two words or less what do you want for your children? In two words or less what do most schools teach? To answer these questions so that the responses are not contradictory or incompatible Positive Education recognises the need to incorporate wellbeing into education, into the everyday learning experience and needs to involve the whole community - teachers, leaders, parents and student. In this podcast we look at how we can do just this. Link to Michelle's book: https://books.emeraldinsight.com/download_pdf.php?k=9781837531578 Link to Worthit: https://www.worthit.org.uk/
Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission. “This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.” Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ ALESSANDRO ADRIANI Alessandro Adriani is a lot of things – producer, DJ, live performer and label owner of Mannequin Records – but above all he is a tireless music researcher. The Berlin-based Italian goes further than your average “crate digger” in pursuit of information about sounds, styles, artists and record labels, devoting countless hours to unearthing the untold stories behind the music he loves, regardless of when it was made. Adriani's obsession has naturally shaped his other musical endeavors, not least Mannequin Records, the label he established over than a decade ago, voted label of the month by Resident Advisor in 2017. Over the years, the imprint has won praise from buyers and critics alike for its open-minded blend of on-point reissues, archival collections and fresh productions. The intriguing, leftfield mixture of material on offer – think techno, electro, cold wave, industrial, EBM, minimal synth, and more – is naturally a reflection of Adriani's wide-ranging and off-kilter tastes ( as you'd discover if you had a quick flick through his vast and growing record collection ). Adriani is distinctively drawn towards the dark and obscure, and you can hear this approach amongst the long, drawn-out mixes of his similarly eclectic DJ sets. Alessandro has contributed outstanding mixes for Resident Advisor, FACT, Crack Magazine, Bleep, Cxema and Dekmantel. On the festival circuit he's made appearances at Berghain, Tresor, Atonal, Boiler Room, Dekmantel, ADE, Dimensions, Neopop, Positive Education, Signal and more, together with his bi-monthly dates at Berghain and Panorama Bar, a residency he's held from 2016 to 2020. As a producer, Adriani's output naturally draws on these inspirations, but also reflects his obsession with electronic hardware. Under his own name Adriani has built a reputation for delivering heavy, angular and forthright club cuts for such celebrated labels as L.I.E.S. Records, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Jealous God, Pinkman and - of course - Mannequin Records. -voimalauseista?
