Das zweite Solo-Album der Britin Annika Henderson verspricht „Change“ durch mehr selbstgeschriebene Songs und mehr Optimismus in ihrem unterkühlt-dubbigen Wave-Pop. Für Christopher das Album des Monats. Viele Wechsel gab es auch im Moritz von Oswald Trio, das durch Laurel Halo und Heinrich Köbberling eine gelungene Annäherung von Impro-Jazz an den Club versucht. Das Trio Moin denkt instrumentellen Post-Rock im Dance-Kontext, während Loveshadow Cold Wave und Poolside Pop in ihrer aufrichtigen und deshalb so unkitschigen 80er-Hommage huldigen. Warum New Jazz und Nu Jazz bitte nichts gemeinsam haben und wie voll so ein Lebenslauf eigentlich sein kann, zeigt die britische Jazz-Musikerin Emma-Jean Thackray, die ihr Debüt-Album vorlegt. Suso Saiz es incansable. Lo mejor es que todo lo que hace es bueno. El año pasado publicó su penúltimo disco "Nothing is Objective" en el sello holandés Music From Memory con el que lleva un lustro trabajando. Oímos dos canciones del mismo. La Orquesta de las Nubes también tienen otro disco en ese sello "The Order of Change" que no sé si es nuevo, antológico o si ha salido desempolvando viejas grabaciones. Lo que sé es que suena divinamente. Os pongo otros dos cortes Luego insisto con el tema "Entropía" de Error Humano. Ya con una copia física en formato profesional. Es fenomenal. Mantengo el ambiente con Öresound Space Collective, el supergrupo nórdico que tiene nuevo material confeccionado durante la pandemia. Temas largos. Hoy elijo "Lost in Africa". De final, una breve referencia para Llorenç Barber, con el mensaje de que no nos olvidamos de él. Estaba en el mismo círculo estético que Suso, Orquesta de las Nubes, los Paniagua etc, aunque luego se especializó en hacer conciertos de campanas. Escuchar audio

John Gómez is a new school tastemaker. The London based, Madrid born DJ has ties to essential collectives like Rush Hour—who he represents on a regular NTS show—as well as Invisible City and Music From Memory, for whom he recently compiled the critically acclaimed Outro Tempo: Electronic and Contemporary Music from Brazil, 1978-1992. A deep digging, versatile selector, he covers everything from house to afro, forgotten soul to niche disco. The best place to hear all these is at Tangent, the top East London party he has run with Nick the Record for the last few years. Across seventy odd minutes here, John keeps things sunny and tropical, with worldly sounds from niche disco, boogie and afro scenes all over the world. Each track oozes a sense of musicality as well as a solid underlying groove. The tracks feel joyful and happy, innocent and inviting and are all sequenced in a way that allows each one to really shine. All in all, it makes for a perfect soundtrack to a summer’s afternoon.

As co-founder of the Music From Memory label, UK born but Berlin based Jamie Tiller has encouraged us all to take time out, go slow and get lost in some essential Balearic, neo-classical and minimalist works by legends old and new. As well as working with celebrated Italian composer Gigi Masin, the label has put out the work of ambient super group Gaussian Curve and Joan Biblioni amongst others. The next project for these obscure gem lovers is a timely re-issue of UK band The System and as such Tiller and co are doing fine work as historical treasure hunters. Jamie —also part of the Red Light Records team— DJs all round Europe and as such has put together a mix for our series that shows where he is at. It proves him to be a lover of colourful and harmonious melody, of beachy guitar licks and sun kissed sounds that bounce along on a buoyant groove. Flashes of 80s sass, pumping euro disco and slick, classic sounding house are all part of the most pleasing puzzle.
