"It feels like every artist is presenting their work in the same way that a gallery or an art institution would." Seven artists share their thoughts on the genre-bending label and its legacy. Resident Advisor's April cover features Bill Kouligas, the singular curator at the helm of PAN. Now celebrating 15 years, the imprint's releases traverse a dizzying array of mediums and genres. As Whitney Wei writes in her article, PAN has long befuddled some people in electronic music. Its catalogue is a bricolage of musique concrete, improvisations, left-field club music, performance soundtracks and other strains of electronic-adjacent work that feel somewhat impossible to place. Amnesia Scanner's cyberpunk nu-metal and Eartheater's sweet singer-songwriter pop are some of the best examples of this immense range. But sitting in Bill's studio, she writes, everything makes sense in context. "I feel a lot of record labels tend to somehow fall under an umbrella of a sound, or a specific genre of music," reflect Amnesia Scanner in this episode of the Exchange. "With PAN, every artist is presenting their work as independent from the work of others, like in the same way that a gallery or an art institution would present work. Of course there are shared ideas and shared values and so on, but it's not built on a narrow idea of what kind of music PAN would represent." The label has garnered a devoted fanbase that recognises the vision uniting this seemingly far-reaching output. And as Kouligas has moved increasingly towards interdisciplinary interests such as fashion soundtracking and art directing, his audience has followed him. The music on the label has done the same, evolving from tracks for the dance floor to documentation of avant-garde visual art. This episode of the RA Exchange collects music and interviews from key individuals who have shaped PAN's trajectory and canon, including Anne Imhof, Objekt, M.E.S.H., Rashad Becker, Amnesia Scanner, Eartheater and Low Jack. Low Jack has been bringing an accessible experimentalism to club music throughout his career. The DJ and live act from France is a firm favourite on the digital arts festival circuit with a dark, tension filled and industrial tinged sound that has landed on L.I.E.S., Les Disques De La Bretagne and Trilogy Tapes and taken him to clubs like Berghain. Next to his techno he has also recently blended digital dub, dancehall and dubstep on newly self-released EPs that break all the rules and means he remains a fascinating auteur. His mix is the perfect way to awaken yourself from a post-festive slumber: its all bristling drums and rib rattling bass, crashing hits and broken beats that fire every synapse in your body. There are trap cuts, dark dancehall bombs and hyper speed jungle rhythms all somehow stitched together into a lively selection that covers a dizzyingly diverse spectrum of sound.

New Music Worldwide is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian. Parisian based producer Low Jack, is the electronic moniker of Philippe Hallais. Taking influences from the early 90s, with pirate radio, Definitive Jux, Chicago ghetto house and Detroit electro, Low Jack’s sound puts a twist on the different elements of the scene. With three albums released on labels such as L.I.E.S, In Paradisum and Modern Love, the French creator lets his music do the talking. Most recently, he has released the publicly acclaimed mini-LP ‘Riddims du Lieu-dit' on his own imprint Editions Gravats, which is a selection of killer cuts of mutant futuristic dancehall. For his mix, Low Jack compiles a selection of tracks which are trying to redefine contemporary dancehall, alongside some homemade club edits, exclusive redubs and live sessions from the man himself.

After our holidays we're back (for good). We've got a whole host of goodies for you, including the collaboration made in heaven between dubstep and grime pioneers The Bug and Burial. This Week on Uncontained I talk to rapper IMERICJONES. We talk about his dilemma between going to college to make his family happy despite not finding fulfillment in college or pursue his asperation of becoming a rapper. With the philosophy that he could always go back to school but only had the present to chase after his dream of performing. This decision was reached by never wanting to have to ask himself “What if?” His clothing line of Books VS. Beats was born and helped to go viral by funk and soul group Tank and the Bangas wearing them in a video. We also talk about how he has a more aggressive approach to getting on stage because he got started in his mid-20’s he had to make up for lost time and had a goal to hit the stage 5 times per-week. We also talk about how he has found motivation from Gary Vee and may soon creating a podcast some time in the near future.
