Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We are joined by Jeffrey Mishlove at his home in New Mexico. Jeffrey was the first and still only Parapsychologist who was conferred a PhD (in 1980) in that field of study. He grew up in a religious family – and a family unbeknownst to young Jeffrey at the time – that was also steeped in mystical tradition. We discuss his path to his calling that was kickstarted by a couple of transcendental dreams. He was a man whose interests were transformed from studying the negative forms of human deviance (criminality) to the positive forms of human deviance. We learn about the story of his mentor Arthur M. Young, the inventor of the helicopter and cosmologist and astrologer. We discuss skeptics vs scoffers, ESP, the perpetual game of hide and seek, cosmic choices after death, the artistic endeavour and the importance of investigating areas of high strangeness. The universe reaches out when you are striving to be the best person you can be. Tom Mellett is a retired high school teacher of math and physics who delights in trolling UFO Twitter and Facebook because their emotional maturity is at a 9th grade level (as he puts it). He is also a cat butler in Los Angeles. We got on the phone after my story "The New Intergalactic Cold War" caused a (quite brief) firestorm on Twitter last week, and fortunately I recorded the conversation, because it really is podcast gold. On this episode of FAILED STATE UPDATE Tom and I discuss the philosopher/engineer Arthur M. Young, parascyhologist (and frequent beneficiary of government contracts) Hal Puthoff, and the very nature of knowledge itself. Be sure to follow Tom on Twitter, and be sure to subscribe to the FAILED STATE UPDATE NEWSLETTER if you haven't yet.
