I had a chance to sit down with my friend Arun Chaudhary who was on Episode 33 back in 2021. I wanted to revisit some of the things we talked about in light of the insanity around the world and all the global elections. We discuss the gains of the far-right, the truth about misinformation, and understanding nonvoters (especially since we have all been there!) We go into the war in the Middle East, the main corruption of the United States, his prediction for the US elections this fall, plus simple and surprising things we can all do to move forward. Arun is an American political operative and filmmaker. After serving on President Barack Obama's presidential 2008 campaign, he was asked to become the White House Official Videographer, a new role developed specifically for him. Known as the “First Cameraman,” Arun followed the former President within the White House and beyond, capturing moments of public grandeur and instances of human intimacy. He left in August 2011 to join mobile-messaging startup Revolution Messaging as senior vice president of communications. Since then, he has continued to work as a filmmaker in politics and in roles such as creative digital director of Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign. Currently residing in Berlin, Germany, he has started a small creative company called Committee, focused on countering the narratives of the far-right globally. He is working on elections all throughout Europe. Please rate, review and subscribe! On this episode of Going Underground, we speak to UN Special Rapporteur on Poverty and Human Rights Olivier de Schutter. He discusses why the coronavirus pandemic is an opportunity for governments to wake up to their responsibilities on poverty alleviation, why a major opportunity has been missed to force corporations to pay fair wages and tackle the climate crisis with green investment, why extreme poverty is likely to rise most in developing countries, criticism that his predecessor Philip Alston received from the government over his report on poverty in the UK, and much more! Finally, we speak to the first official White House videographer Arun Chaudhary. He discusses the rise of the far-right in Europe and the United States, why a Trump victory likely would not have happened without Brexit, Joe Biden’s ‘disappointing’ cabinet picks of neoliberals and people from the military-industrial complex, why he as a progressive originally worked for Barack Obama, why Joe Biden is likely to not show much behind-the-scenes action during his presidency, his work on the Bernie Sanders campaign, and much more!
Bernie Sanders built a community of committed followers and completely changed the Democratic party as we know it to exist today. He inspired candidates to embrace more progressive values and policies and he revolutionized how a campaign can build a movement online. How was his coalition built? How can it best be mobilized to defeat Donald Trump in November? Former White House videographer and Creative Director to Bernie Sanders's 2016 campaign, Arun Chaudhary, joins us to talk through these questions and understand the future of Bernie's movement.
