What if you could redefine your identity beyond titles and roles? How do you know which path to take when you come upon a fork in the road along life's journey? Join us, as we explore these profound questions with our remarkably wise guest, Dave Schutter. From Military to Ministry - Dave Schutter's Wisdom Journey Our special guest Dave Schutter had his sights set on a military career, dreaming of an appointment to West Point. But God had a different plan for his life. From his dreams of West Point to a transformative mission trip to Albania, Dave's journey is a testament to adaptability, faith and finding purpose. Together, we unravel the intricate balance of separating who we are from what we do, sharing experiences from his time as a military chaplain in Afghanistan and his work in pastoral ministry. It's an engaging conversation steeped in life's simple joys and the wisdom found in unexpected places. More about Pastor Dave Schutter Dave is a military veteran, a pastor and a pizza aficionado. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, as the son of a military man, Dave dreamed of attending West Point, but a sports injury prevented him from passing the fitness entrance exam. He didn't give up on that dream and years later Dave qualified for that appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point. But he turned down that opportunity in favor of something different. Today, Dave leads the congregation at Northwest Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor. Notably in Dave's life, he served as a military Chaplain in the US Army, including an active deployment in Afghanistan. That tour of duty earned him the prestigious Bronze Star. Dave Schutter graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Covenant Theological Seminary in 1997 and earned a Master of Theology degree from Westminster Seminary in 2017. He completed his undergraduate studies at Miami (Ohio) University in 1993. Dave is also a contributor to the Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia (Eerdmans, Fall 2017) and the Jonathan Edwards Global Sermon Editing Project. Dave, his wife Kim, and their three children live in the Columbus Ohio area. Presentatie: Robert Denneman

But with a second chance at life, I set out to find an answer to my life's challenges. I discovered that Mental Health is the key to triumphing over any challenge in life!Armed with this knowledge, I created the Mental Health Warrior Program, a new self-help approach for triumphing over life's challenges and building the life you really want! At the core of the Mental Health Warrior Program lies the principle of self-empowerment. With practical solutions centered on lifestyle and mindset changes, the program empowers you to respond, not react, to life's challenges, by tapping into your inner strength and resilience. Bruce Schutter 2 Vroom Vroom Veer Show Summary In this episode of the "Vroom Vroom Veer" podcast, host Jeff Smith welcomes back guest Bruce Schutter to discuss updates and insights into his Mental Health Warrior Program. The episode starts with introductory remarks and a pre-recorded promotional bit by Charla Gervers, followed by a signature introduction from Tim Paige that nicely sets up the theme of navigating life's veers. Bruce Schutter engages in a detailed conversation about his personal journey with mental health challenges, notably his struggle with bipolar disorder and anxiety, which were undiagnosed well into his adult life. He candidly shares his experiences with self-medication through alcohol which he used to manage anxiety and stress stemming from his IT career and personal life. Bruce explains that it was only after facing life-threatening lows that he sought and embraced recovery, transforming his relationship with his mental health. The conversation then transitions to Bruce's Mental Health Warrior Program. He elucidates how understanding and managing emotions can become a formidable tool to navigate life's complexities. Bruce emphasizes growth through embracing challenges as part of leveling up one's mental health warrior skills. He shares principles from his program, such as the warrior creed "bend, not break," which encapsulates the resilience one builds by engaging with the program. Bruce also dives into the content of his nine books, each contributing a unique angle to coping strategies, from embracing minimalistic lifestyles to adjusting dietary habits that influence mental health. For example, he explains the significant mental clarity gained from reducing sugar intake as outlined in one of his books. The episode wraps up with further discussions about the therapeutic impacts of simple actions, like swapping reactive behaviors with proactive responses, leaning into current moments to reduce worries about past or future, and various other mental health tools and techniques described in his books. Jeff and Bruce share personal anecdotes and laughs throughout, underlining the podcast's intent to blend meaningful content with engaging storytelling. In closing, Tim Paige thanks the audience for joining and directs them to the "Vroom Vroom Veer" website for more information, rounding off the episode with an invitation for listeners to keep tuning in for more unique experiences shared on the podcast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Have you ever struggled with anxiety, depression or PTSD?The sad truth is that our world is more riddled now more than ever with mental health challenges increasing year after year. Why are we struggling more now than ever before? And is there a way to support our mental health BEFORE it gets to a dark place?Tune in with today's special guest - Kiem Schutter as we dive deep into a conversation around mental health support AND the possibility of ketamine assisted therapy to support this journey.Kiem is the Founder of Qi Integrated Health in Vancouver BC.As a natural-born healer, sensing and feeling energy on a much deeper level than most, Kiem has been on a lifelong journey to tap into the deep healing powers of the body and mind. After completing his education in Chinese Medicine he was inspired to create a space to bring together various modalities and healers to support human health in a more holistic way. And that's when he created Qi Integrated Health.Imagine that there is a memory rooted deeper than science tells us - one that reaches deeper into our connectedness to nature - that you have been able to access and one that psychedelics seem to offer the avenue to. However, there may be something more profound in you that connects you not to who you are or where you came from but to who you really are, and where you really came from. That, I believe, can be defined as love.In the business's scope, we define this as a state of health (joy, vigour, vibrancy, connectedness). To inspire in others the belief that challenges are not barriers; rather, they are lessons, is the foundation of your work. "I hope to inspire others to continually pursue a state of good health, with greater love and through new levels of consciousness - not merely in the absence of illness, injury, or trauma, but, instead, because of it. The radical acceptance of our traumas and challenges, paired with a deeper understanding that we can overcome them if we are willing to persevere and integrate new modalities, is the key to real success and true wellbeing." ******************Qi Integrated Health - Complementary Integration circles and info calls for psychedelic/preventative medicine: https://www.qiintegratedhealth.com/events Connect with Kiem Schutter and Qi Integrated Health Centerhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/togreathealth/?originalSubdomain=ca https://www.instagram.com/qiintegratedhealth/******************➠ Discover the unique ROOT CAUSE that is keeping you stuck on the sugar rollercoaster every year. There are over 50 million players over the age of 50 in the USA alone and those numbers will only continue to grow for an activity that's too often viewed as “kids' stuff”. How and when do older players engage with online gaming communities? Do designers need to be concerned about monetizing techniques that might take advantage of vulnerable older adults? What can societies do to help older games access games that would be fun and beneficial for them? How can games themselves be more inclusive for older players? --------------------------------------------------------------- Bob De Schutter (MFA, PhD) is an award-winning game designer, researcher, educator, and advocate for meaningful play in later life. The Kingdom of God is like… …A seed growing from the most unlikely places. …A highly valued treasure hidden in a field. …Wheat growing among weeds. …A house built on a firm foundation. The Kingdom of God is where… …Lost sons come home. …The proud are humbled. …Enemies become friends. …the empty are filled with good things. The Kingdom of God is…here among us.
“Who do you say that I am?” This is one of the most powerful questions Jesus asks his disciples. In a world of competing identities and confusion, Jesus longs for us to know the real him. As we look to the hope of Easter, we are rediscovering the 7 defining statements Jesus said about himself and why those change everything.
Hello! Dawn here. In case you missed it, I am training for the Race Around Rwanda, a 1000km self-supported ultra cycling race, scheduled to start on the 5th of February, 2023. It just so happens that our guest today, one of the race organizers, Simon De Schutter, is a friend of mine. I first met Simon back in 2019 as we traveled to Oman together for what was for each of us, our first ultra cycling race, BikingMan Oman. This is the first in what will be a Bonus Series around the Race Around Rwanda and my preparation for it. This episode gives an overview of the race, the route, an update on cycling in Rwanda and what makes this race so special. Simon offers some practical advice for those signed up and words of encouragement for those thinking of signing up. He also chats with me about Rwanda Beyond, an initiative to help develop Rwandan cycling talent. I'm not going to lie, I'm not sure if I'll be physically ready for this race but mentally, I am beyond excited for this new adventure after what has been a challenging two years. I hope you enjoy my chat with Simon and stay tuned for upcoming bonus episodes that touch upon training, ultra eating and also a chat with some fellow racers. durée : 00:45:37 - On n'arrete pas l'éco - par : Alexandra Bensaid - Ce samedi, une question brûlante : limiter la durée d'indemnisation des demandeurs d'emploi peut-il vraiment aider à réduire le chômage ? In 1993 Mark's first wife, aged 27, died of metastatic breast cancer. He did what he believed was expected of him as a young man - move on. He remarried, had a daughter and many years later the grief resurfaced. Over the past 5 years through counseling and writing creatively he was able to write his memoir "Cowboys Are Not Supposed to Cry" chronicling his story of love, loss, grief, healing and “life after...” He continues to fight for others and their healing. He seeks truth, writes poetry and stories while often stumbling along the way. He has navigated the pain of loss and grief to find hope and love again. Grief is not something you just get over and he tells his story of living a life while acknowledging and carrying grief. He has poems published in several anthologies on the topics of love, loss, grief, healing, hope and self-discovery under the pen name Mark Wayne. He is happily remarried to a wonderful woman who he claims is the most beautiful and strongest woman he has ever known. He has been blessed with a beautiful daughter who keeps him young in this second chapter of life that he has been granted. He enjoys horses and mountain biking when not writing. He believes in the ‘ripple effect,' touch one life and you may touch the world, for to share the journey, however brief, is a wonderful gift. His wish is to share the joys, the sorrows, the hope and healing to inspire others to live despite the grief we all carry because there is “life after…”. ******* Thanks for being here! In this episode, Meghan interviews author, Mark Schutter. He is the author of Cowboys Are Not Supposed to Cry, a memoir. He tells his story of living a life with grief that began in his midtwenties. The death of his young wife left him alone, and although life was tough, he vowed to show the world that he was tougher.Remarrying and having a daughter, to onlookers, from the outside, life seemed happy again, until in an anguished night of prayer, Mark heard the words that to be the husband and father he wanted to be, he must:reconcile the pastembrace the presentredeem the futureWe talk about:How men have a hard time talking about mental healthHis story of grief and lossHis impetus to share his storyAbout Mark:As a much younger man, Mark stood helplessly at the edge of the dark abyss of pain, death and grief. The experience of watching his first wife die at age 26 from breast cancer forced him to question the meaning of life in his search for answers that impact his writings to this day.He has lived his entire life in the Pacific Northwest where the land, nature and people both inspire and fuel his writing. His poetry has been featured in several print and online publications as he works on his first full-length book of his poetry that explores the pain that we all face during our lives and the hope that can rise.He is happily remarried to a wonderful woman who he claims is the most beautiful and strongest woman he has ever known. He has been blessed with a beautiful daughter who keeps him young in this second chapter of life that he has been granted. He enjoys horses and mountain biking when not writing.
