Send us a textKen welcomes Washington political commentator, speechwriter, and author Peter Wehner. Pete is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a senior fellow at the Trinity Forum. He is well known for his prolific contribution to the intersection of politics, public policy, and faith. Early on, he identified as a conservative, a Republican, and an Evangelical. From 2011, when Donald Trump campaigned to challenge the legitimacy of the Obama Presidency, suggesting that he was born in Kenya and not the U.S.A., Wehner has called out the danger of a Trump presidency. Pete has been a stalwart in opposing Donald Trump and in the process, he no longer identifies as a Republican or an Evangelical. He remains a traditional conservative. However, he has offered a powerful and sustained critique of evangelical support for Donald Trump and a Republican Party that has become subservient to the newly elected President. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson played a key role in that transition. Ken and Pete have a lively discussion over his early years as a new Christian, his college career, the influence of his scientist father, his move to Washington, Reagan's speech after the Challenger disaster, George Bush's 9/11 speech (Pete was in the White House that fateful day), and finally Donald Trump's complete take-over of the Republican Party and his return to the White House for a second term. In 2007, Todd Starnes was working at Fox News and covering then-Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign. “I just felt like that was going to be the historic campaign, and it turned out to be,” says Starnes, a bestselling author and nationally syndicated radio host. The political climate facing America right now is in part due to the “residual after-effects of the Barack Obama presidency,” according to Starnes. The former Democratic senator from Illinois was president from 2009 to 2017.“First, Obama categorized all of the [2008 GOP opponent Sen.] John McCain supporters … [as] the folks that cling to their guns and their religion,” Starnes said. “He called them ‘bitter' Americans. He made those remarks in a speech in San Francisco. And then you had Hillary Clinton coming out and talking about the irredeemable ‘deplorables.'”Starnes says both Obama and Clinton “were trying to dehumanize their opponents, their political opponents.” Second, Starnes points to Obama's pledge to “fundamentally” transform America. In his new book, “Twilight's Last Gleaming: Can America Be Saved?” Starnes explains how America arrived at the political division it finds itself in right now, and just how much time he thinks the nation has to right its course before it's too late. Starnes joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain more. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I'm confident that it will continue to be passed - in a roughly similar form - for the foreseeable future. The current version was passed in 2019 under a Republican senate and is due for reauthorisation in 2025. Since the Obama Presidency, there's Republicans have begun to try to prevent bills proposed by Democrats from being passed by default. This is particularly easy for non-spending bills since for non-spending bills, 60 votes are needed to break the filibuster - a method used to prevent bills from being voted on - in the Senate. However, not only are defence bills consistently bipartisan, they have consistently high degrees of support from Republicans in particular. Therefore, I'm not concerned about the DPA not being passed by a Republican senate and a Democratic President when it's next due for reauthorisation. The DPA gives the President very wide-ranging powers since the goal of the act of the act is to ensure that the US industrial base is strong enough to fight and win any war the US might need to undertake. Concretely, this allows the President to instruct firms to accept contracts; incentive expansion of the industrial base; and a grab bag of other specific provisions aimed at making sure that the US production base is strong enough to win a war. Until 1953 the act was much more powerful and essentially allowed the President to take control of the US economy. Find Me the Votes: A Hard-Charging Georgia Prosecutor, a Rogue President, and the Plot to Steal an American Election by Michael Isikoff, Daniel Klaidman https://amzn.to/3SE6CWt From veteran award-winning investigative journalists Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman, the epic inside story of the prosecution of a president. In Find Me the Votes, two years of immersive reporting by Isikoff and Klaidman has produced the most authoritative and dramatic account yet of a defeated president's conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election and how a local Georgia prosecutor—a daughter of the civil rights movement—decided to indict him and his allies for his desperate attempt to hold on to power. From the beginning, Fani Willis saw Donald Trump's crimes as a voting rights case, and an attempt by the former president to deprive the citizens of Georgia of the franchise, a right for which her forebears had bled. Isikoff and Klaidman take us deep inside both the nerve center of Trump's effort to steal the election and the DA's team of prosecutors as they build their case against the president. Their reporting reveals new information on the plot to criminally seize voting equipment in several states; Sidney Powell's attempt to obtain preemptive pardons from Trump; and revelatory communications between the president and his co-conspirators. We see the prosecution take shape in Willis's office in the face of heinous threats of violent retaliation from Trump's supporters. With blockbuster original reporting and exclusive access to thousands of secret documents, emails, text messages, and audio recordings, Find Me the Votes is investigative journalism at its finest. The authors also conducted exclusive interviews with key sources in the Trump conspiracy, as well as with the president's top targets, including Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger and the Fulton County DA's team–featuring hours of interviews with Fani Willis herself. This is riveting contemporary history, and a lasting account of the prosecution of a president who tested the rule of law as no president ever had before. Isikoff and Klaidman have written a story for the ages.About the Authors Michael Isikoff is an award-winning Washington investigative journalist and the author of three New York Times bestsellers: Uncovering Clinton: A Reporter's Story; Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal and the Selling of the Iraq War (with David Corn); and Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump (also with David Corn). Cody Keenan started working in the White House at the age of 28 and rose up to the role of Chief Speechwriter for President Barack Obama. In terms of his chosen profession, he was at the top of the mountain at a very young age. But after eight years, the Obama Presidency ends. What does he do next? After the White House, Cody has accomplished a lot. He has collaborated with Barack Obama on his best-selling, presidential memoir, A Promised Land. He's now completed his own book, Grace: President Obama and Ten Days in the Battle for America, which debuts on October 4, 2022. He has joined Fenway Strategies, a strategic, communications firm that helps write speeches for others. But according to Cody, the most rewarding part of his second act is teaching the next generation of political speechwriters in a small class at his alma mater Northwestern University. “It's the best thing I do. It pays the least but it's the most fun. I get to watch these students grow and improve and get excited about politics and its possibilities." In this episode of Second Act Stories, we go behind the scenes at the White House to learn the story of the eulogy which President Obama and Cody wrote for the funeral of Reverend Clementa Pinckney and eight other congregants at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. During the service, President Obama surprised the congregation by signing Amazing Grace.

In the past few years, it seems a floodgate has opened, releasing a deluge of tremendously successful media that centers the Black experience. “Get Out,” “Black Panther,” and HBO's “Watchmen” are just some of the big-budget prestige projects that have drawn huge audiences and dominated the cultural conversation. In a special episode, The New Yorker Radio Hour looks at this moment in Black entertainment and investigates the industry forces behind it. A film scholar explains the complicated history between studios and Black audiences. And Barry Jenkins, the director of “Moonlight,” tells David Remnick about the doors the Obama Presidency opened for Black creators in Hollywood.

Topics covered: What lessons can we learn from Covid-19th in dealing with climate change? We need a national adaptation plan. Why political leadership is absolutely critical in dealing with big issues. We need to ‘marry' adaptation and mitigation and have them work together…when possible. Learning about the adaptation profession and what advice Alice can offer professionals in this space. Alice's experiences in the Obama White House and how that informs her adaptation work today. In this first ever Hypothetical Deep Dive episode Nick explores what could have or likely would have happened if the tragic events of 9/11 never happened? Would G.W. Bush have been reelected in 2004? Would the economy have collapsed much sooner? Would we have ever invaded Iraq? Would there have been an Obama Presidency or a Trump Presidency? These questions and much, much more.
On this final episode of Season 3 we go all in on a quinasential tropical cocktail, the Sex on the Beach. We learn about how this recipe hits all the notes of a classic drink from the 80s, one of the eras of Tux's scandal.

What is a legacy? As the artist Lin-Manual Miranda tells us, it's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see. American presidents, regardless of party, spend a great deal of time during their presidencies and after they leave office thinking about their own legacies, and how people will study and remember their administrations. Whether the 2020 presidential election results in a second term for President Trump or an inaugural one for a President Biden, both men and the people in their administrations are or will be thinking about what to plant in those gardens. Today's show builds on this week's virtual George Washington Symposium at the Washington Library, which is dedicated to consequential elections in American presidential history. On the podcast, we explore one aspect of how modern presidents and their administrations preserve records and memories of the past through oral history. Dr. Evan D. McCormick joins Jim Ambuske today to talk about the Obama Presidency Oral History Project at Columbia University's Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics or (INCITE). McCormick is an Associate Research Scholar with the project, and Columbia was chosen by the Obama Foundation in 2019 to oversee the oral history initiative. McCormick is also a historian of the United States and the World, and he is completing a book on Ronald Reagan's policies toward Latin America. Ambuske and McCormick dive into the significance of conducting oral histories for preserving and interpreting the legacy of modern presidents, the shape of the Obama Project, and the contrasts between the kinds of sources that historians of early and modern America use to reconstruct the past. About Our Guest: Evan D McCormick an associate research scholar at Columbia University's Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics (INCITE) where he works on the Obama Presidency Oral History project. Evan is an historian of the United States and the world, and is completing a book on Ronald Reagan's policies toward Latin America. He received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Virginia (2015) and an M.A. in International Relations from Yale University (2007). He has held postdoctoral fellowships from the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University and the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin. From 2007-2009, he was a policy fellow at the Department of Homeland Security, spanning both the Bush and Obama administrations. About Our Host: Jim Ambuske, Ph.D. leads the Center for Digital History at the Washington Library. A historian of the American Revolution, Scotland, and the British Atlantic World, Ambuske graduated from the University of Virginia in 2016. He is a former Farmer Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Humanities at the University of Virginia Law Library. At UVA Law, Ambuske co-directed the 1828 Catalogue Project and the Scottish Court of Session Project. He is currently at work on a book about emigration from Scotland in the era of the American Revolution as well as a chapter on Scottish loyalism during the American Revolution for a volume to be published by the University of Edinburgh Press.

Summary: There are market indicators of a major top as illustrated by the Blue Apron IPO, as it represents the failure of a very weak company attempting to raise money my means of an IPO when the market may have lost its steam. The stock is trading at $7.14, down from its initial $10/share offering. Wall Street has lost control of this IPO. A smaller bank actually issued a price target of $2/share. The point is that they brought the IPO to the market and they could not keep the air in the bubble. SnapChat, another Wall Street darling, went public at $17 not too long ago and although it had a big pop initially up to $29, now trades at about half that price. The point is that this process is coming unglued. The inability of Wall Street to maintain the air in these bubble stocks is an indication that we're nearing the end of this bull market. The Yellen Put May Have Expired The only way the Fed might be about to extend the bubble market is by changing its tune. As I said in my last podcast, I don't know if that Yellen put is still there. It may have expired with the election of Donald Trump. We know that the Fed wanted to prop the market up during the Obama Presidency; that was clearly their goal. But, especially since Trump has wrapped his presidency in the market's recent upswing, the Fed's willingness to risk credibility may be waning. The Fed may have a greater tolerance for lower stock prices. The Fed will, however step in if they see weakness in Wall Street spill over to Main Street. Commodities and Emerging Markets Commodities are looking good, despite the recent dip in oil, gold and silver. Base metal stocks are rising, emerging markets are continuing to pick up, especially those markets that are big exporters of commodities. So, beneath the surface we are starting to see a rotation into these commodity-sensitive, inflation-sensitive sectors. Golden Opportunity in Silver Meanwhile the headlines are still all about the drop gold and silver. I recorded a video blog on Monday morning; silver was down almost to $15. It has just bounced off that low as I recorded the video. At SchiffGold, we were able to organize a great deal from one of our suppliers on silver. The ratio of the price of gold to the price of silver was near 80:1, which is about as cheap as silver is going to get, relative to gold. Historically, it is a great buying opportunity. We were able to lock up this deal where we have a limited quantity of junk silver bags we're offering to our clients at $1.25 over the spot price of silver. Sometimes these bags are scarce.

Our country is leaderless. Voters realized this in November and voted for change in Congress. Voters want Congress to reverse the leaderless Obama administration with strategies to prevent the continued decline of the United States that Obama is helpless to address. The utter failure of the Obama administration can be measures in so many ways, from the number of beheaded American journalists, to embarrassing heads of state by spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkle's personal mobile phone, to callously calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a war hero, “chicken shit” and a “coward.”

In his first speech from the Oval Office last night, President Obama explained what he called his "battle plan" for the Gulf oil spill. Did he succeed in a broader goal: reassuring Americans that he has the disaster under control? Also, cell-phone radiation. scientists are still debating the health impacts of radiation from cell phones. San Francisco is demanding that customers get a chance to compare. Could that be misleading?
