BONUS EPISODEAt the last minute, Corey and Tess decided to review CW’s new “Batwoman” pilot since the first proper episode of our podcast was dedicated to the show’s source material (listen to our “Batwoman: Elegy” show before listening to this since it’s reference multiple times). They were only supposed to discuss the show for 20 minutes, but instead they made a full episode about it (lol). This week Al recommends her main girl (and gay icon) Batwoman and it's very good duh. We contemplate the LITERAL wig snatching, dickensian arch villians, and the animorph mob with a dumb name. There are two mysteries in this book, and we solve them both. Jam, Jon, and Jeff read "Batwoman: Elegy" by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III, and it sparked a lot of good discussion. We talk about reasons to be a superhero, how to write in an extended universe, and the gulf between art and script. Join us as we solve the mystery of who Alice is, and why this book is structured the way it is. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on "The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book" by Bill Watterson.
It’s real-talk, 1906-style. For today’s episode, Jam, Jon, Jeff, Jess, and Kaye read "A Bintel Brief: Love and Longing in Old New York" by Liana Finck. This unusual memoir takes the advice column from a hundred-year-old Yiddish newspaper and translates it into comics. It’s a unique window into a bygone age, as well as a personal journey through the author’s heritage. It sparked a lot of conversation amongst our group. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on "Batwoman: Elegy" by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III.
Alexis Hejna sticks around for another week with Jesse and Mark to discuss Batwoman "Elegy." Greg Rucka brings us this tale in 2009 looking at Kate Kane and her rise to become a fearful knight of Gotham.
When Batman is dead, who gets to take over Detective Comics? Batwoman! With issue 854, Kate Kane became the star of the title and creators Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III made sure she stepped up to the plate. It’s not often that we get to talk about werewolves and lesbian tuxedo meet-cutes in the same episode, but here we are. Join us for Batwoman: Elegy. Also, we near the homestretch of Crisis on Infinite Earths with issue 10, as our characters abandon the issue's plot halfway through to do something way more interesting. And Wildcat once again is nowhere to be seen. Next Time: Venom: Lethal Protector!
Lis and Nathaniel take a look at one of the more striking designed but slightly less well known members of the extended Bat Family. No, it's not Barbara Gordon all grown up. It's Batwoman, and you will not forget her anytime soon. The PUNCH LIKE A GIRL Podcast is a Council of Geeks Production!
