Take me back to Paradise City er Island, where the grass is green and the women have style and are strong.  It seems Diana is not the only Amazonian who has left Themyscira. Aresia has come to man's world not on a mission of peace, but a mission of death. Aresia has gathered the Injustice Gang (Star Sapphire, Tsukuri, Grundy, The Shade, and Copperhead) and is using them to collect technology, gems, and more from Gotham City.  But when the men start to question her plan, she gasses them. She is making an antigen that infects and kills only men.  As a child, she escaped a war-torn country only to have her ship destroyed by pirates. She washed up on Themyscira. The Amazons raised her as one of their own and even used magic to give her Amazonian strength and powers. But she took the Amazonian feelings about men and her history to build hate towards all men. The men of the Justice League are taken down by the antigen. This leaves only Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl to take down Aresia, Sapphire, and Tsukuri. With Hippolyta's help, they damage the plane carrying the antigen bombs. Aresia seemingly goes down with the plane. Hello Justice Leaguers!  Wonder Woman has been away from home for 8 months. At Superman's urging, she decides to go home and face the consequences of her actions. She was expecting an icy homecoming, but was faced with a stone cold one.  Themyscira is in ruins and all of the Amazonians have been turned to stone. Felix Faust, disgraced archeologist and power-hungry magician, has taken the island on behalf of his master, Hades. Faust makes a deal with Diana, gather the pieces of the Key to Tartarus and he will free the Amazonians. The League agrees to help her while Batman does research on Faust. Diana brings the league to Themyscira to fight Faust and Hades.  But Faust is able to open the gates to Tartarus and free Hades.  Hades raises an army of the dead. The League fight them while Diana and her mother fight Hades.  He is returned to Tartarus, his army and Faust is killed. The League is thanked. Maria Bakalova knows what she's doing when it comes to finding top-tier creative partners in film and television. As a student studying at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Bulgaria, she gravitated toward acclaimed filmmakers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, a directing duo she still works with to this day. She met Julian Kostov in 2019 when he shared a casting notice for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, the movie that'd ultimately earn Bakalova an Oscar nomination. Now, Kostov is Bakalova's producing partner. Under their Five Oceans banner they produced Triumph with Grozeva and Valchanov directing. The film was selected as the Bulgarian entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. Next up on Bakalova's list of dream collaborators she's hoping to establish a long-standing creative partnership with? James Gunn. In fact, during her Collider Ladies Night interview, Bakalova noted, “If I have to choose one person that I want to stick with the rest of my life, it will be him.”Bakalova worked with Gunn for the first time on Guardians on the Galaxy Vol. 3 in which she played Cosmo the Space Dog. While Gunn's run with the Marvel Cinematic Universe would come to an end there, his working relationship with Bakalova wouldn't. Gunn made the shift from Marvel to DC, and brought Bakalova along with him. He cast her as Princess Ilana Rostovic in his adult animated series, Creature Commandos, the project that'd kick off the new DC Universe. At the start of the show, Task Force M is brought in to protect the Princess and the nation of Pokolistan from Circe (voiced by Anya Chalotra) and the Sons of Themyscira. Acomi and Turk182 take a trip into the Multiverse of the DCEU (Detective Comics Extended Universe) to see some of the worlds we won't ever truly get a chance to visit. In this case, the two hop on the time treadmill and go back to 2011 to watch the David E. Kelley created unaired Wonder Woman TV pilot. Starring Adrianne Palicki (John Wick, The Orville, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD) as Wonder Woman a.k.a. Princess Diana a.k.a. Diana Prince a.k.a. Diana of Themyscira, Cary Elwes (Princess Bride, Saw, Robin Hood Men In Tights), Elizabeth Hurley (Bedazzled, Passenger 51, Austin Powers), Tracie Thoms (Death Proof, Looper), and Pedro Pascal (Wonder Woman 1984, Mandalorian, The Last of Us). The pilot is set in a world where Wonder Woman already exists and is known figure and vigilante. She's also the chairwoman of her own company, which works to improve the world. In this world, Diana Prince is the alter-ego that WW slips into when she wants to get out of the public eye. A "normal" woman, with a "normal" life. Her rival is Veronica Cale (Hurley) who has been experimenting with a body enhancing drug that is kind of illegal; or maybe just in the testing phase. When more and more of the drug's users start to die, Wonder Woman decides to bring Veronica Cale and her pharmaceutical company down, her way. Her way is illegal vigilante force and killing hired goons. Join Acomi and Turk as they wrap a gold rope around themselves and talk about how hot Adrianne Palicki is. And, in between, judge a TV pilot that wasn't spectacular, but could've been shaped into something fun and entertaining. Still a ton better than Wonder Woman 1984. Wonder Woman is perhaps the most iconic female character in comics and one of the few superheroes to remain in continuous publication since the Golden Age, but Diana of Themyscira has had an uneven and somewhat rocky creative history. Following Crisis on Infinite Earths, George Pérez took it upon himself to radically reinvent the character with co-plotter and scripter Greg Potter, emphasizing her mythological roots and attempting to address the patriarchy and its impulse to war. We look at the first seven-issue arc, "Gods and Mortals," and how it establishes a new status quo, engages with late-Cold War nuclear fears, and tries to solve DC's longstanding “Wonder Woman problem.”

Welcome to Deming, New Mexico, "An Enterprise Community!"  Located 35 miles north of the US-Mexico border, Deming was founded 1881 and was a major hub on the second transcontinental railroad.  The Silver Spike was driven in Deming to commemorate the meeting of the Southern Pacific with the Rio Grande, Mexico and Pacific railroads.   In recent years, several movies had been filmed in Deming.  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Gas Food Lodging, and the Themyscira scenes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were all filmed in the area.  Most importantly (to Neil anyway), the town is location of The Great American Duck Race.  The annual event features duck race, a hot air balloon show, and numerous other events.  We hope you enjoy our visit to Deming!

This week Danielle brings the superhero craziness with the 2020 film Wonder Woman 1984. If you didn't see the first Wonder Woman film, don't worry, neither did Sam, and Danielle barely remembers it, so no context needed! Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is your average working 80s girl, only she's really an immortal Amazonian from Themyscira who is still pining for Steve (Chris Pine), the love of her life and a pilot who died in World War 1. When a botched robbery brings a mysterious citrine in to the Smithsonian where Diana works with her mousy new friend Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), things start to go awry. While holding the stone, both Diana and Barbara make wishes in their heads and then a magic wind blows, foreshadowing the granting of their wishes. Barbara wished to be strong and beautiful like Diana, but Diana's wish is a surprise for later. That's when Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) rolls in, he's the head of an oil company/Ponzi scheme who has just made a large donation to the museum, which seems to grant him carte blanche to just touch evidence, like the citrine, in an FBI investigation. He invites them all to a gala that night in his honor and Barbara is instantly taken with him and agrees while Diana declines. That night at the gala, Diana is now suspicious of Max and shows up anyway, and is immediately sexually harassed by every guy in there, since all men in this world are completely terrible. She brushes them off, but then one of them says a phrase that Steve once said to her, and Diana realizes her wish came true: Steve is back! Only, Steve is not himself, his consciousness has been shoved into the body of another man. What happened to the mind of the man whose body this was originally? Who cares, certainly not our supposed "heroes" Diana and Steve, who immediately drop everything to go have sex in that poor, possessed man's home with his unable-to-consent body. Meanwhile, Max Lord (seriously, that name) has initiated a make-out session with Barbara in order to steal the citrine. With the citrine safely in his castle/home, Max does something absolutely bonkers and wishes to become the wishing stone. It might be reasonable to take a moment here to discuss the rules of the magic citrine, but the rules for this wishing stone are so arbitrary and crazy you're just going to have to listen to all our rants to get it, there's too much to include here. Maxwell then starts coercing others into wishing things that benefit him while touching him, and then also taking something from them in exchange for the "wish", and if that's confusing, get used to it. Anyway, Max jets off to Egypt while Diana and Steve, now back on the case, follow him in the dumbest way imaginable. This movie is so long, and chock-a-block full of nonsense, that Danielle has to end it there before Sam gets so angry at the inconsistent wishing rules and dumb Wonder Woman lasso tricks that he quits the podcast entirely.
