The Business of Putting a Roof Over Your Head | Think Business -Guest: Candace Klein John Yeager is the Managing Director of Business Transformation Services with Bennett Thrasher and the host of Think Business, a video series exploring business, growth, and leadership. Hey this John Yeager with another episode of Think Business. Today we have Candice Klein on our show. Candice is president of Klein Contracting and CEO of Meta Team welcome Candice thanks for joining us at Think Business. Thank you for having me nice to see you John. You too, so tell me a little bit about Klein contracting and then how that relates to Meta Team and give us a little background of how you got here. It's an interesting story I know. So I am a commercial roofer Klein Contracting is a commercial roofing company that has been around for 32 years. I'm the president of it and as you can see I'm female which makes me kind of an anomaly in my field. We do commercial roofing only. Let me be clear because my friends will call and want me to do their houses and I can't help them but what happened was we were looking at our market and my market is the Southeast United States and we are certified as a woman-owned business. We decided it's really not the best thing to service my client's needs when I can only have a geographical footprint that's about this big. There are other wonderful women-owned roofing companies in other areas that also do amazing work that could service clients needs. We got to mulling this over and a little birdie whispered in my ear put them all together. So what happened is I got together with two other really dynamic women-owned roofing companies and an amazing other businesswoman and the four of us created what is now the Meta Team. #JohnYeager #CandiceKlein #ThinkBusiness
Evaluating Businesses | Think Business -Guest: Gina Miller - Partner at Bennett Thrasher Welcome everybody to the next episode of Think Business this is John Yeager with Bennett Thrasher in charge at the business transformation services group. Today we have what I call part two of our continuous planning dialogue. Last episode we talked to a couple folks about the infrastructure setting up and FPNA service and FPA tools and vision and those kinds of things and today I want to get into really the nuts and bolts of it. I do want to apologize I think it's day 150 of not having a haircut. So I normally am a little bit more professional on this but you know that's life and the pandemic. So today I want to introduce our guest Gina Miller. Gina is a partner at Bennett Thrasher and she heads our business evaluation group. Gina welcome to the show. - Hi, John, I'm glad to be here with you today. Thanks for introducing me. I say a little bit your viewers a little bit about my background. I have been preparing business valuations for over 20 years now and some small boutique firms before I joined Bennett Thrasher. Six-plus years ago I think partner there a couple years and so we run a group that does valuation services for a variety of purposes. One of the key factors to remember in our valuations is that we do a lot of cash flow forecasting and so a lot of our evaluations are really built on that and so I'm happy to talk to you about that today. #JohnYeager #GinaMiller #BennettThrasher

“Black Panther.” "The Blind Side." “The Walking Dead.” These are just some of the film and television shows filmed in Georgia. The Peach State has found enormous success in the film and TV production industry, with creative types enticed by the state's film tax credit. Meanwhile, the tax credit remains a contentious issue in Massachusetts. How has Georgia made the film tax credits a winning business model, and can Massachusetts do the same? Guests: Noah Berger, Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center; Robert Tannenwald, economist and Brandeis University professor; and Peter Stathopoulos, tax attorney at consulting firm Bennett Thrasher. In this week's Lagniappe segment: Massachusetts is the worst state for Hispanics and Latinos, according to a study by 24/7 Wall Street. Even in Boston, Hispanics and Latinos make up 20 percent of the city's population, but they are rarely represented in high-power committees, nonprofit boards or government offices. Add the largest wage gap in the country and a language barrier to the mix. The result is a population the Boston Globe stated is “invisible.” Can this change? Guests: Lorna Rivera, of UMass Boston, and Alex Oliver-Davila, of Sociedad Latina.
