Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, with a very low survival rate and limited treatment options. Understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive the development and progression of this disease is crucial for finding new ways to prevent and treat it. One of the key players in pancreatic cancer is the WNT signaling pathway, which regulates many aspects of cell growth, differentiation and survival. WNT signaling is often dysregulated in pancreatic cancer, leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation, invasion and resistance to therapy. “The canonical WNT pathway is reportedly an essential protagonist in organ development as well as oncogenesis in multiple cancers.” How does WNT signaling become so powerful in pancreatic cancer cells? In a new study, researchers Jing Wang, Dominik T. Koch, Felix O. Hofmann, Daniel Härtwig, Iris Beirith, Klaus Peter Janssen, Alexandr V. Bazhin, Hanno Niess, Jens Werner, Bernhard W. Renz, and Matthias Ilmer from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, University of Science and Technology of China, Technical University of Munich, and German Cancer Consortium revealed a novel role for a receptor called LGR6 in enhancing WNT signals in this disease. Their research paper was published on September 27, 2023, in Aging's Volume 15, Issue 20, entitled, “WNT enhancing signals in pancreatic cancer are transmitted by LGR6.” Full blog - https://aging-us.org/2023/11/how-a-receptor-boosts-wnt-signals-in-pancreatic-cancer/ Paper DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.205101 Corresponding author - Matthias Ilmer - mailmer@med.lmu.de Sign up for free Altmetric alerts about this article - https://aging.altmetric.com/details/email_updates?id=10.18632%2Faging.205101 Subscribe for free publication alerts from Aging - https://www.aging-us.com/subscribe-to-toc-alerts Keywords - aging, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, WNT signaling, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, LGR6, cancer stem cells About Aging-US Launched in 2009, Aging-US publishes papers of general interest and biological significance in all fields of aging research and age-related diseases, including cancer—and now, with a special focus on COVID-19 vulnerability as an age-dependent syndrome. This month’s podcast features Bernhard Wöstheinrich, from Berlin. Bernhard came to my studio to record before his performance at the Third Tuesdays: Electronic/Experimental Music Night, it was the first time we’d met and we promptly began making sounds together. I find the results of our collaboration have a dream-like quality, as if floating through surreal, … Continue reading Errant Space Podcast Ninety Nine: with Bernhard Wöstheinrich →

Happy to be back in Berlin after an absence of more than two years, I was invited to guest host Bernhard Wöstheinrich's radio show THF Experience, which broadcasts from an old guardhouse at the entrance to the Tempelhof Airport Park. We tackled the theme of EMERGENCE: into nature, after this pandemic, with great guests including Monika Dorniak, Volker Lankow, Christine Kriegerowski, Lima Vafadar, and Ali Sayah. Music is interspersed with ideas....
The great German synth player Bernhard Wöstheinrich, founder of Iapetus Media and Centrozoon, here reveals his secrets for what makes a good electronic sound. He and I experiment with some sounds he likes, some he dislikes. Together we learn to listen to and to shape the unknown.

Peter Grenader is a bit of a lightning rod. He's a 'personality' in a rather staid business, he's been part of the electronic scene for a long time, but he's always willing to speak his mind and provide his perspective. Some in the industry have written him off for good (he notes in the interview that he's been 'banned for life' from Muff Wiggler, for example), while other people that I respect - like Jill Frasier - find him a compelling creator and collaborator. What you can't argue, however, is his importance in the history of electronic music and the growth in popularity of modular systems. The Plan B business drove things forward from where Doepfer had started it, but brought a level of quality and creativity that was needed to move things forward. Alas, a tumble of problems occurred which caused Plan B to go under, and it was at a time when the modular community was just growing, getting some leverage, and was unwilling to let this just dry up. The result was a huge fight - one that I didn't witness at the time, but whose footprints are still seen all over the modular synth landscape. Peter's willingness to talk about this, along with his assurances that his debts had been paid, should help us get past some of the problems of the past, and to be able to look that Plan B in its proper historical light, as well as illuminate the work that he and others are doing in the future. I hope that you enjoy getting to hear Peter - in person - talk about his excitement for the future, admission of past failures, and emotional enthusiasm for the electronic arts. This episode of the Art + Music + Technology podcast was supported, in part, by centrozoon - a trio consisting of Bernhard Wöstheinrich, Markus Reuter and Tobias Reber.
