January is over. Whether you stayed dry or just managed Moist, how do you make sure you're not heading into soggy February? What's the best way to cope with cravings, handle social events, and avoid falling back into old habits? Stephanie is here to answer all these questions, thank goodness. She opens up her toolbox to share a host of practical tips for maintaining balance in the long term, along with her number one Nugget of Wisdom. We're joined by Jo Bevilacqua, who tells us how she went from party girl to moderate drinker, and shares her best advice too. We discuss how planning your drinking can help, what to do if you're feeling the pressure, and how to handle it if you mess up. Look, we do bang on about it, but honestly, Remedy Kombucha make such nice drinks. They are free of sugar and artificial sweeteners, as it's possible we've mentioned, and they contain antioxidants and organic acids. The flavours are great and they are properly tasty. You can get Remedy Kombucha from Morrisons, Tesco, Amazon, Ocado, Holland and Barrett, Starbucks, M&S and remedydrinks.com. Thanks again for sponsoring the podcast, Remedy! Cheers! #AD Sort Your Sh*t Out is produced by Laura Grimshaw (@lorlyjane) and the music is by John Thorn. In this episode, we talk to academic researcher James Morris about why he believes we need to change the story around alcohol and addiction. He also tells us his story of going from abstinence to being back on the booze. There's some chat about the benefits of doing dry January, and why so many of us go back to our old ways afterwards. Plus, fags vs beer: do different drugs require different approaches when we're trying to kick the habit? Shout out to Remedy Kombucha, kind sponsors of the podcast, and purveyors of delicious fizzy drinks that don't contain any sugary nonsense. They come in great flavours like Wild Berry and Raspberry Lemonade, complete with antioxidants and organic acids. Perfect if you're looking for an alternative to alcohol. Our guest for this episode is the brilliantly funny and beautifully honest Cat Sims, known on Instagram as @notsosmugnow. She tells us about the dark times that led to her decision to give up the booze entirely, and the lessons she's learned along the way. We find out if she's secretly judging Ellie's attempts to cut down rather than cut it out. Stephanie shares her thoughts on labels and whether we need them, and Cat tells us what it's like to go to AA meetings (the ones for people who drink too much, not the ones for people who need roadside assistance.) Big thanks as always to our lovely sponsors (not in the AA sense) Remedy Kombucha. They make lovely refreshing cans of fizzy pop, full of antioxidants and organic acids, and no sugary nonsense. They taste like they're made for grown-ups, especially the excellent Ginger Lemon flavour. You can get Remedy Kombucha from Morrisons, Tesco, Amazon, Ocado, Holland and Barrett, Starbucks, M&S and remedydrinks.com. #AD Sort Your Sh*t Out is produced by Laura Grimshaw (@lorlyjane) and the music is by John Thorn. It's time for some real talk as Ellie and Stephanie discuss the reasons we love getting on the booze, and why it's become such a huge part of our culture - especially for women. We talk to Laura Willoughby, the founder of mindful drinking community Club Soda. We look at the tensions that can exist between non-drinkers and those trying to reduce, and some reasons to be cheerful about the way the UK's attitude to booze is changing. Plus, we enjoy a Heated Debate as Stephanie and Laura discuss whether we should increase the price of alcohol, while Ellie sits in the corner googling which crisp whites are on 3 for 2 down at Saino's. Also in this episode, we chat about the low or no alcohol choices that are now available - like Remedy Kombucha, who are kindly sponsoring this series. Their tasty cans of fizzy pop contain no sugar or sweeteners, just good stuff like antioxidants and organic acids. They are properly delicious as well, with flavours like Ginger Lemon, Mango Passion, and Wild Berry to choose from. We all know alcohol isn't great for our health, and hangovers are no one's idea of fun. But what does “responsible drinking” mean, exactly? How much booze can we consume without affecting our wellbeing in the long term? What about the benefits of drinking - will a glass of red a day really keep the GP away? Joining us to answer these questions is Professor David Nutt, doctor, wine bar owner, and author of the excellent book Drink? The New Science of Alcohol and Your Health. He tells us how alcohol can affect everything from mental health to the menopause, and how we can manage its effects. We also discuss why he fell out with the Government, the magic potion he's working on, and the fact all cavemen were p*ssheads. True story. After listening to the Prof you might not fancy the usual six pints of wine tonight, so why not try Remedy Kombucha instead? There are lots of lovely flavours to choose from - I find the Mango Passion goes very well with fish fingers. And they taste like they're made for grown-ups, with no sugar or artificial sweeteners. AND they've got antioxidants and organic acids in, which are probably better for your gut health than vodka. The first series of Sort Your Shit Out is all about balancing the booze. In this episode, comedian Ellie Gibson gets real about her own drinking habits, and has questions. How do you know if you've got a serious problem? If you want to moderate your intake, where do you start? And how do you break patterns like being sober all week then battered at the weekend? Answering all these is coach and co-host Stephanie Chivers, who specialises in helping people change their relationship with alcohol. We discuss Stephanie's rock bottom, and Ellie's squidgy one, and why rules can help when you're trying to reduce. Stephanie gives us some practical tips for cutting down, and Ellie reveals the rules that work for her. Many thanks to Remedy Kombucha for supporting this podcast. They make tasty, grown-up fizzy drinks with no sugar or artificial sweeteners, and loads of good stuff like antioxidants and organic acids.
