She didn't deserve this. My heart has been heavy, wondering what I can do to help this family, yet knowing no amount of money, love, anything will fill their hurt and bring this little girl back. Údarás na Gaeltachta has strongly recommended to small and medium-sized Gaeltacht businesses that they immediately implement appropriate steps in response to the challenges caused by Brexit and COVID-19 restrictions. In addition to the continuous support provided by Údarás na Gaeltachta to Gaeltacht companies in this context, it has set out a range of practical supports for Gaeltacht companies as the Brexit deadline approaches. Supports available to companies include: A Brexit supports information hub on www.udaras.ie; A series of webinars to share appropriate expertise; Direct email campaign to all client companies regarding Brexit supports; A series of follow up communications with tips/reminders for businesses to act upon; Continuing with Brexit@Udaras.ie as a dedicated contact/support function for companies. With under 45 days left until Brexit, it is important that companies take practical steps in order to mitigate, as far as possible, the impact of Brexit on their businesses. Companies throughout the country have faced extremely difficult periods over the past few months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding Brexit. Údarás na Gaeltachta in association with the Department Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, assisted with the compilation of a report published recently by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform on the impact of Brexit on Gaeltacht companies and the guidance given and recommendations made by the organisation in the report are being followed in ensuring that the appropriate supports and advice are available to small Gaeltacht companies. Údarás na Gaeltachta has approved €3.35m in essential COVID-19 supports to Gaeltacht businesses as they address the difficulties created by the Coronavirus pandemic. Over 410 Gaeltacht companies have benefitted to date from Údarás na Gaeltachta’s COVID-19 support schemes to assist them with the ongoing funding of their businesses, implement financial planning, and how best to use online global sales markets. Údarás na Gaeltachta, in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland, has approved up to €2.35m in support to Gaeltacht companies as they undertake financial planning and while also providing sustaining enterprise funds. Just over €1m was approved in financial assistance to 413 Gaeltacht businesses in the past few months through the Online Trading Voucher Scheme and the COVID-19 Business Continuity Vouchers Scheme. Funding for both these schemes were provided from funds from Údarás na Gaeltachta, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and the Department of the Environment, Climate, and Communications. Atskatāmies uz šī gada būtiskajiem ārpolitikas notikumiem. Esam izveidojuši savu 2018.gada ārpolitisko procesu top 4 un šiem notikumiem arī pievēršamies. Vērtē Latvijas Radio žurnāliste Ina Strazdiņa un Latvijas Universitātes asociētais profesors Toms Rostoks. Dažiem notikumiem ir senāka vēsture un vēl nav zināms, kā tie beigsies. Viens no tiem ir „Brexi”. Tur izšķirošie notikumi vēl tikai risināsies, bet jau šobrīd tas ir radījis visā Eiropā nopietnu ietekmi. Tāpat šogad daudz esam izjutīšu ASV prezidenta Donalda Trampa ietekmi, jo sevišķi saukli “America  first” (Amerika vispirms). Ko tas nozīmē un kādas tam ir sekas no drošības globālās ekonomikas perspektīvas. Vācijā šis gads savukārt ir iezīmējis kancleres Angelas Merkeles ēras beigas. Viņa ir atstājusi savas partijas vadītājās amatu un paziņojusi, ka drīzumā pametīs politiku vispār. Kā tas mainīs Eiropas kopējo poitiku? Un vel pievērsīsimies protestu kustībai Eiropā. Francija liela ietekme bijusi „dzelteno vestu” kustībai, Slovākijā demonstrācijas lika mainīt valdību, Rumānijā un Ungārijā protestētājiem ar valdības maiņu līdz šim nav veicies. Kādus secinājumus varam izdarīt, lūkojoties uz masveida protestiem Eiropas Savienības valstīs?  „Brexit” Šī gada ārpolitikas notikumu apskats nevar iztikt bez „Brexit”. Līdz brīdim, kad šķirsies Lielbritānija un ES ir palikušas mazāk nekā 100 dienas, taču īstas skaidrības par to, kā tas notiks- ar vai bez vienošanos- joprojām nav. Novembrī šķita, ka ir atrasts kompromiss, par kuru neviena puse nav priecīga, taču britu premjere Terēze Meja sacīja, ka šis ir labākais iespējamais variants, un ES norādīja, ka šis ir vienīgais iespējamais variants. Bet šobrīd "Brexit" vienošanās  ir iestrēgusi, jo balsojums par to britu parlamentā ir pārcelts. Tikai pēc balsojuma Lielbritānijas parlamentā var sākties "Brexit" līguma ratifikācija pārējās ES dalībvalstīs. Taču Lielbritānijā par "Brexit" vienošanos joprojām ir ļoti liela šķelšanās – Mejai nav spēcīga atbalsta ne savā partijā, ne starp koalīcijas partneriem un ,pēc iepazīšanās ar izstāšanās līgumu, novembrī viņas valdību pameta četri ministri. Šobrīd paredzēts, ka janvārī britu parlamentā atsāksies Brexit debates un mēneša vidū gaidāms arī balsojums, tikmēr Eiropas Savienība (ES) pirms Ziemassvētkiem apstiprinājusi rezerves plānu gadījumam, ja Lielbritānija pametīs Eiropas Savienību bez vienošanās panākšanas par turpmākajām attiecībām ar 27 valstu bloku. Trampa “America  first” darbībā ASV prezidents Donalds Tramps, cīnoties par krēslu Baltajā namā, solīja saviem vēlētājiem, ka viņš Ameriku liks pirmajā vietā. Šogad to labi izjuta gan ASV sabiedrotie NATO, gan tirdzniecības partneri. NATO dalībvalstis no ASV prezidenta bieži dzird pārmetumus par to, ka reti kura no valstīm reāli pilda apņemšanos aizsardzībā ieguldīt 2% no IKP. Jūlijā, NATO samita priekšvakarā,  vairāku valstu līderi saņēma Trampa vēstules, kurās diplomātiski stingrā tonī pieprasīts palielināt drošībai un aizsardzībai paredzēto finansējumu. Pretējā gadījumā jārēķinās ar ASV globālās militārās klātbūtnes mazināšanos. Savus draudus Tramps jau piepildījis – pirms Ziemassvētkiem vairāki ārzemju mediji ziņoja, ka ASV plāno izvest visus savus karavīrus no Sīrijas un pusi no Afganistānas izvietoto karavīru. Tāpat ASV šogad izstājusies no Irānas kodollīguma, kas paredz samazināt sankcijas pret Irānu, ja tā apturēs savas kodolprogrammas attīstību. Novembra sākumā ASV atkal stājās spēkā visas tās sankcijas pret Irānu, kas darbojās līdz 2015.gadam, kad tika parakstīts kodollīgums. Jāpiebilst, ka tas neattiecas tikai uz Irānu, jo ASV sola sankcijas arī pret tām valstīm, kuras nepārtrauks importēt Irānas naftu, un ārvalstu uzņēmumiem, kas slēdz darījumus ar ASV  melnajā sarakstā iekļautajiem Irānas subjektiem, tostarp Irānas centrālo banku, privātajām finanšu institūcijām. Savukārt tirdzniecības partneri šogad baudīja paaugstinātus ievadmuitas tarifus. Donalds Tramps bieži sacījis, ka iepriekšējo administrāciju noslēgtie tirdzniecības līgumi ir neizdevīgi ASV un šogad viņš centies to labot. Paaugstinātus tarifus izjuta ES, Kanāda, Ķīna un citas valstis. Lai arī lielākā daļa valstu spējušas panākt kaut kādu vienošanos ar ASV, nav skaidrs kādus tarifus nākamgad varētu  ieviest Donalda Trampa administrācija vai no kuras pasaules organizācijas vai līguma draudēt izstāties. Merkeles ēras beigas Kad Balto namu pameta Baraks Obama, daudzi par brīvās pasaules līderi nosauca Vācijas kancleri Angelu Merkeli. Viņa ir pirmā sieviete, kas Vācijā ieņēmusi kancleres amatu un 13 gadu laikā, kopš stāšanās amatā, bieži titulēta par ietekmīgāko sievieti pasaulē. Merkele dzimusi 1954. gada, viņas pirmā profesija ir ķīmiķe, bet politikā Merkele iesaistījās 1989. gadā. Gadu pēc Vācijas apvienošanas - 1991. gadā - viņa kļuva par sieviešu un jaunatnes lietu ministri kanclera Helmuta Kola vadītajā valdībā. 1994. gadā viņa ieņēma vides ministres krēslu, bet 1998.gadā šo amatu pameta. Pēc Kristīgo demokrātu sakāves vēlēšanās viņa kļuva par partijas ģenerālsekretāri un 2000. gadā tika ievēlēta par partijas vadītāju, bet 2005. gadā kļuva par Vācijas kancleri un šo amatu saglabājusi līdz šim brīdim. Rezervēta, ar stingru mugurkaulu, ES de facto līdere – tā bieži tiek aprakstīta Merkele. Viņas pieņemtie lēmumi tikuši gan slavēti, gan pelti, bet viņas un Vācijas kristīgo demokrātu popularitāti visvairāk grāvis Merkeles lēmums 2015.gadā atvērt robežas bēgļiem no Sīrijas. Gada laikā Vācijā ieradās vairāk nekā miljons migrantu un tas izsauca neapmierinātību daudzos vāciešos un atbalsojās arī lielā daļā Eiropas. Oktobra beigās Angela Merkele paziņoja, ka 2021.gadā vairs nekandidēs uz kanclera amatu un decembrī atkāpās no Kristīgi demokrātiskās savienības vadītājas amata. Partijas vadītājas vietā decembra sākumā tika ievēlēta Annegrēta Krampa-Karenbauere, kuru daudzi uzskata par Merkeles mantinieci, kas varētu turpināt viņas uzņemto politisko kursu. Protestu vilnis Eiropā Pret korumpētiem un nespējīgiem politiķiem un degvielas cenu celšanu- daudzviet Eiropā šogad notikuši iespaidīgi protesti. Cilvēkus ielās veduši dažādi motīvi – Slovākijā protestus izsauca pētnieciskā žurnālista Jāna Kucjaka un viņa līgavas slepkavība šī gada februārī.   Kucjaks pētījis lietu, kurā itāļu mafija tiek turēta aizdomās ar Eiropas Savienības fondu ļaunprātīgu izmantošanu Slovākijā. Pēc Kucjeka slepkavības Slovākija piedzīvoja lielākos protestus kopš neatkarības atgūšanas, kas līdz ar opozīcijas spiedienu, lika atkāpties no amata premjeram Robertam Fico. Oktobrī slovāku prokuratūra izvirzīja apsūdzības četriem cilvēkiem par slepkavības organizēšanu un pasūtīšanu. Par žurnālista slepkavību samaksāti 50 000 eiro. Arī Rumānijā šogad notikuši vairāki iespaidīgi protesti – simtiem tūkstoši cilvēku izgāja ielās, kad rumāņu valdība pieņēma lēmumu dekriminalizēt vairākus korupcijas noziegumus un kad Rumānijas prezidents Klauss Johanniss jūlija sākumā atcēla no amata pretkorupcijas prokurori Lauru Keveši. Notikumi Rumānijā un Slovākijā pievērsuši arī Eiropas Parlamenta uzmanību.  Judita Sargentini, kas gatavoja ziņojumu par tiesiskumu Ungārijā, septembrī sacīja, ka Rumānija ir nākamā valsts, kas var gaidīt EP deputātus, un sarakstā ir arī Slovākija un Malta, kur notikušas žurnālistu slepkavības. Pēdējie protesti, kas pievērsuši pasaules uzmanību ir dzelteno vestu protesti Francijā. Kas sākās kā protesti pret nodokļa celšanu degvielai, pārauga protestos pret Francijas prezidenta Emanuela Makrona politiku. Daudzi protestos prezidentu Makronu vainoja, ka viņš nesaprot mazāk turīgo cilvēku bažas un ka ir bagāto prezidents. Makrons ir piekāpies protestantiem un ne tikai atcēlis plānoto nodokļu pieaugumu degvielai, bet pacēlis minimālo algu, atcēlis nodokļus prēmijām un virsstundu samaksai, kā arī atcēlis šogad pieņemto nodokļu paaugstinājumu pensionāriem, kuri saņem pensiju, kas mazāka par 2000 eiro. Par spīti visam iepriekš minētajam, Makrona piekāpšanās aizvien neapmierina nedz protestētājus, nedz politiskos aktīvistus. Kreisie radikāļi un arī sociālistu partija sola jaunas demonstrācijas un uzsver, ka prezidents atkal spēris soļus, par kuriem būs jāmaksā nevis bagātajiem, bet gan vienkāršiem cilvēkiem.
