Undefeated Winton Woods (5-0) plays at Anderson (4-1) in a key Eastern Cincinnati Conference football showdown this Friday. "It's been a pretty competitive series over the years," Winton Woods coach Chad Murphy said. "From the FAVC (Fort Ancient Valley Conference) days to the ECC days now. We know they're a throw it around, score a lot of points team. We've battled with them the last couple years so we couldn't be more excited." Winton Woods is No. 1 in the Division II, Region 8 computer points standings, according to Joe Eitel, while Anderson is No. 2. Murphy and senior defensive lineman Cam Jackson joined the WCPO High School Insider Podcast to discuss this season and the upcoming game against the Raptors. Anderson defeated Walnut Hills 51-0 last week. That victory came a week after the Raptors lost 56-35 at Milford. Anderson coach Evan Dreyer said the Raptors hope that experience against Milford will help this week against Winton Woods. "We can't give Winton Woods a short field or a big play," Dreyer said. Anderson junior quarterback Justice Burnam has thrown for a conference-best 1,543 yards and 16 touchdowns. Anderson senior Brodey Berg has rushed for 460 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also has 384 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Trace Jallick has 380 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Anderson will face a Winton Woods defense which has allowed just four points per game and 20 points overall this season. "Their defense is incredible," Dreyer said. Winton Woods has an 18-game regular season win streak. Its most recent regular-season loss came at Anderson Oct. 1, 2021 (28-21). Jackson said he remembers what it was like to lose at Anderson during the 2021 game. He said it was a turning point in the state championship journey. "It was quiet in the locker room," Jackson said. "There weren't a lot of laughs and giggles. it wasn't a good feeling at all. That's all I remember." Winton Woods, which defeated Little Miami 51-0 last week, is led by several players including junior linebacker Justin Hill who has a conference-best 6 1/2 sacks. Jackson has four sacks while junior defensive back Donmiel Rogers Jr. has three interceptions. Junior running back Tyler Gooding has rushed for 488 yards and six touchdowns. Tradition runs deep at Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods High School. Success came before head coach Chad Murphy led the Warriors to the OHSAA football Division II State Championship last season. Murphy is responsible for ensuring his team understands they are not the hunters but "The Hunted" when they take the field each week. With three players, Trey Cornist (Georgia Tech), Cameron Calhoun (Cincinnati), and Jermaine Mathews Jr. (Ohio State), having ended their recruitment with early pledges and young players receiving early interest, Murphy feels blessed to have seniors who have grasped leadership roles. DBHuddle.com sat down with Coach Murphy to learn more about his 2022 squad, including his top players and the challenges they face going from hunters to the hunted on the field. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dbhuddle/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dbhuddle/support

He's probably one of, if not the, most hated man in bowling. Everywhere you go in the world of bowling, someone has something bad to say about Chad Murphy. I'll be honest and say I believed some of, if not most of it. But thankfully, I was able to go down to USBC Headquarters and spend some time at the campus as well as have this conversation with the man who is the face of the organization. This conversation is meant to shine a light into the who Chad is as a person and as a bowler, as well as the decision making processes that exist and he represents at USBC. Which means yes, we do talk about the Storm bowling ball ban... I want to extend my greatest thanks to Chad and everyone at USBC for welcoming us with open arms and listening to all of our questions, criticisms and stories. It is a trip I will never forget and am excited about going back soon! Ten Pin Life exists to tell the story of what it takes to live a life in bowling and to grow the love for the sport. Expression is the process of taking something from a spark of an idea through to existence. And, while there can be moments in that process that are truly amazing, it can also run us through the ringer - several times over. So, what is required of us to press our expression out into this world? Is want enough or does it require something more? This week we are paying it forward through an exploring on expression and the story of two artists. Chad Murphy is the genius behind Lord Birthday. He wasn't always out as Lord Birthday- in fact, he decided to start as an anonymous creator and kept up that goal even when he saw that his own sister was a fan and regularly sharing his posts. One of my favorite parts of this episode is the story of Chad having to tell his sister that he was Lord Birthday. Just a few years after starting Lord Birthday, Chad's little project has over 180,000 followers (!!!!) and a book in the pipeline. It could be easy to dismiss this as blind luck, but talking with Chad meant I got to learn all the behind-the-scenes story. Chad started out wanting to write fiction, and struggled along in that pursuit for years before a lucky trip to an art show convinced him it might be a good idea to try something new and see what happened. For anyone who has ever want to take a big leap, anyone who has laughed so hard they cried when reading the brilliance of Lord Birthday, and for anyone who has a dream of telling stories in a way that doesn't match up with the way things have always been done, I give you Lord Birthday. I promise you'll be smiling ear to ear after this episode, just like I was when we recorded it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
