We Matter - that's the slogan made famous by this week's guest - Jon Ralston, the CEO and editor of The Nevada Independent. As we heard on last week's episode of Ballot Battleground: Nevada, the Silver State will of course matter in the general election, but we mattered quite a bit less during this Presidential nominating cycle. We brought Jon in to talk about 2024, the early Biden/Trump polls, the U.S. Senate race heating up and the first year of Governor Joe Lombardo's administration.

John Stringer (John Stringer - Limitless Love & Light from Moment to Moment (johnstringerinc.com)) was usually singing while doing chores or at a family gathering. Music was the norm. The only thing he could take to entertain himself when going to West Point Military Academy was his guitar. But it became a portal for prayer. He would sneak away to a shed to pray, sing and emote. He developed his spiritual practice by himself. He needed this because - as he said - he was rough around the edges. He welcomed getting discipline down. He found balance in mind, body and spirit. West Point gave him tools like performance enhancement, slowing his heartrate, journaling, setting goals and having a backwards plan. John's passion for community was ignited when he and his family joined a commune when he was three years old. His mother took the children from there when he was 4. Over time,, he came to realize that community is part of the network of the Mind of God. Like a molecule, the Divine design is that we can do more when with community than we can do on our own. John joined mastermind circles, accountability circles later in his life. He made daily commitments while gaining wisdom from the community - learning to serve and be served. We get to help each other step into fully who we are here to be. It is a re-membering, receiving the medicine from that journey.John and Kathy reconnected after her divorce and they formed Healing Arts Management to manage events, promote artists and create healing music. They produced a successful concert called Atlantis. John toured the world with a rock band and started a label. It was clear that their attraction was more than chemical - it was spiritual. These souls were to work together. John hired Kathy to manage the band and the label. They entertained the armed forces. Kathy was a catalyst for his growth. They did transformative and healing retreats around the world. John did songwriting retreats and enlisted Posi-award winning artists into The Alignment Method. They did licensing and writing for film. John left his C Suite job and created Banding Together for teaching collaboration skills, how to be present, behavioral sciences, understanding your needs, communicating your needs, and measuring performance. John wanted to hear direct from Spirit to heal and release guilt and shame. Miserable and out of control emotionally, he asked show me what works, God! I can't go on this way. He learned breathing, mediation, sought direct contact with God, sought his genius and learned how to tap into his own intuition. He started receiving symbols and interpreting them in color, visuals, and audibles intertwining. Synchronicities occurred. There was kundalini rising, stream of consciousness writing. The Source that fuels creativity is the same Source with answers he'd been seeking all his life. He received the teachings and applied them to his life.John and Kathy asked how Ester and Jerry Hicks did it. One word emerged "Align". John continues to align himself with Spirit and does important work. Discovering how genius and intition work, he asked "What's mine to know, to do. All his solo projects come from this listening. Catching the ancestral energy of many who had been oppressed, John created the pivotal work, "We Matter". He is committed to bringing a message of Love to this planet. John is on the music team with Ester Nicholson, Michelle Jordan, Lee Langston and Bukeka Blakemore along with the James Ward Band for the groundbreaking event: "Celebrating Our Soul": A New Thought Conference by People of African Descent. He will also teach songwriting to the youth there. For more information about this event, go to www.padntg.org).Listen to Rev. Celeste's poem: "What Spirit Will Bring".Support the show

This is a very special episode of the Precarious Podcast. I feel like I met my soulmate in all things uncertain and precarious. Her name is Kimberly Warner. She is a filmmaker. In 2015 she developed cervicogenic vertigo and Mal de Débarquement Syndrome or MdDS that manifests as a constant perception of rocking, bobbing and swaying. After searching for treatments/cures and coming up empty, she had to accept her reality. She turned to her craft of filmmaking as a way to connect with others who are in the community of the "Unfixed".These are the stories of humans who are saying “yes” - the ones who believe their worth lives in the nexus of pain, uncertainty, gratitude and purpose. Through exploring these stories I hope to uncover insights and universal truths that can encourage us all to live more fully and radically Unfixed.

We Matter highlights and discusses this new wave of athlete activism; dispels the myth that current athletes are not connected and affected by what goes on not only within the confines of their own communities, but across society as a whole; gives credit and pays homage to the athletes of yesteryear who have paved the way for the Colin Kaepernicks and Lebron James's of the world to be as vocal as they are today; and encourages athletes of the future to continue to use their voice to bring about change Over the past decade, we have witnessed an unprecedented number of athletes across all sports using their positions, their platforms, their celebrity and the power of their voices for change. Athletes have an unprecedented ability to influence fashion, pop culture, and politics with their actions. It is refreshing to see many acting on their convictions. Etan Thomas attended Syracuse University where he played basketball and graduated with a degree in Business Management. In 2000, the year in which he was selected to the first team, All Big East, he was drafted number 12 in the NBA draft and went on to play as a center and power forward for the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks. But this man is far more than a member of the elite group of men that were good enough to play in the NBA. He's a study in resilience and inspiration. During the Wizard's training camp for the 2007 to 2008 season, a routine physical examination revealed that he had a leaking aortic valve requiring open-heart surgery. The surgery was a success. And a year later, he returned to play again for the Wizards. And in this first game back, he had 10 points and eight rebounds. Yet our guest has passions and genius well beyond athletics. He's a prolific writer, thinker, advocate, and activist. He wrote a book of poetry called More Than an Athlete, in which he addresses big issues, such as the death penalty, racism and abortion. He coauthored his autobiography Fatherhood: Rising to the Ultimate Challenge, in which he discusses his own childhood without a father. In another book of poetry and essays, Voices of The Future, he collaborates with today's youth to tackle topics such as police brutality, wars, HIV, and even religion. And his most recent anthology, We Matter, relies in part on interviews of other athletes, activists, and scholars to educate, question, and inspire. He's also written for the Huffington Post, Washington Post, CNN and ESPN, and he still likes basketball too. As he is a writer and podcaster for basketballnews.com. He's the recipient of the 2010 National Basketball Players Association Community Contribution Award as well as the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Foundation, Inc. Legacy Award. When Googling "Justice System" on Wiki it says the justice system goals are "rehabilitation of offenders, preventing other crimes, and moral support for victims". Now if you're black, you're probably making the face Conceited made in the meme. I'm not too sure about that big fella! The lie detector test determined that was a lie. Even moral support for victims is a stretch when Black men are locked in prison for crimes they did not commit. How exactly does the justice system give moral support by not locking up the real person who committed the crime? "Make it make sense" as I always say. On this episode I have a good friend of mine, Vonta, checking in to give his personal opinion about the Justice System with me. We will be sharing our thoughts on criminals, our thoughts on the justice system, and also about Blacks knowing their rights. These are few key points. Most importantly, as usual, we will be discussing how we can move forward as a community from this continuous block against us. Facing bad officers is one battle, the justice system is another. Please feel free to send in your opinions and suggest to my Instagram. Your voice matters and it is time we start taking action together on our own. While I am the owner and creator it is important that this is a collective effort of togetherness. Voice(s) is plural for a significant reason. You Matter! We Matter! Blessings. The battle has got to come to an end and America the Great has got to prevail. If it doesn't, we are all lost in a sea of uncertain and poverty of freedom. No matter what side of the street you are standing on here in the USA during 2020, there are issues, challenges, news from media outlets that is upsetting us all becasue the stories are in competition for our attention. Who is telling the truth? We need to know that what we all want is America the Free, with the US Constitution and Bill of Rights intact, with safe streets in every city, and choices about each aspect of our life. WE MATTER. FREEDOM MATTERS. Join Ron Williams and Dr Deb Carlin on the daily show here -- FREEDOM MATTERS. WE MATTER. YOU MATTER.
An all out assault by the UCP in Alberta. A deliberate effort to underfund the system in Ontario. Medicare, a universal program that was fought for and won by Canadian progressives is under attack. It's time to focus on democratizing the workplace. We can fundamentally transform the lives of Canadians through policy that's already in place in many countries and proven to work. We discuss some of these ideas and just how we can bring them to Canada through work at the Centre for Canadian Progress. We're joined by guest Frances Elizabeth Moore, National Operations & Outreach Manager for We Matter. We Matter was started in 2016 by brother and sister Kelvin and Tunchai Redvers. Overwhelmed by the number of suicides and other issues Indigenous youth face, they wanted to create a space that connects Indigenous youth across the country and provides support and love through culture and sharing. Matthew Emerzian is an author, keynote speaker, and the founder and CEO of Every Monday Matters, a non-profit organization committed to helping others understand their value and purpose. His work has been featured in Fast Company, Oprah.com, The Today Show, and the Hallmark Channel. He joins Marcel Schwantes to share a powerful and timely message about why we all matter. Marcel asks Matthew what he hopes comes as a result of current events. Matthew responds: that we continue to operate on our “human spirit” even after the coronavirus is gone. [4:30] Live a life that’s not about you. Matthew talks about the life motto given to him by his therapist that completely changed his world view. He shares how doing community service every Saturday morning helped him redefine what mattered to him. [11:48] Matthew’s book, Every Monday Matters, was used as part of a restorative justice program for convicted felons. After speaking to a group of them at a prison, one man tearfully commented that not being told he mattered was what got him into his position. [18:19] Marcel shares that Every Monday Matters the book is broken down into three sections: I Matter, You Matter, and We Matter. He asks Matthew to explain how they interconnect. Matthew describes it as a Venn Diagram with three circles, where each circle represents one section of the book and they all share an intersection. [21:38] People should be themselves authentically and unapologetically. They should not put filters on their lives like they do to social media posts in an attempt to reach perfection, because every individual is already uniquely perfect. [23:52] The silver lining in the current pandemic is that people are being forced to be their true selves; the masks are being torn off because we are all in a mutual state of suffering. [26:19] Some argue that doing selfless things is selfish because it only makes you feel good about yourself. If being selfless is actually being selfish, then we should create a selfish world, Matthew jokes. [31:22] We are wired to serve others. A life of service fulfills you in ways that material success cannot, and you find a sense of inner peace when you dedicate yourself to it. [34:39] Marcel asks Matthew how we can emerge from the global pandemic as better people. Before the coronavirus hit, we were suffering from a human virus of unkindness, Matthew says. We were not treating each other with compassion. When the virus goes away, in order to emerge as better people we must continue to embrace our humanity as we are doing currently. [36:21] Matthew believes that to create a world where everyone is aware of why and how much they matter, education must start with the youth. Every Monday Matters has a social and emotional learning program in six countries that has reached two million students worldwide. They are also providing free lessons and live classes on Zoom due to the pandemic. [38:38] Every day we wake up, we can make a choice to be someone who gives to the world, or someone who takes from it. [44:16] I matter, you matter, we matter. Marcel asks Matthew to explain how everybody matters. I Matter involves coming to terms with your own worth in all your imperfections and uniqueness. You Matter involves expanding your awareness to acknowledge and celebrate the value of those around you. We Matter explores how powerful we are together in impacting lives and communities. In this episode, Waylon addresses the popular notion that individual actions do not matter in the grand scheme of climate change because corporations are by far the largest contributor to the problem. Waylon highlights that our behaviors drive corporations to make the decisions they do and that it takes altering our daily habits to create real change—which takes a lot of bravery on our part. I Want To Live. In this episode of Teachings In The Air, we talk to award-winning filmmaker and We Matter co-founder Kelvin Redvers about his journey to wellness, and what inspired him to start We Matter with his sister Tunchai. Kelvin recently dropped by our office in Vancouver, BC and we were fortunate enough to hear some stories and insights from his work in spreading hope to Indigenous youth across Canada. Kelvin Redvers is an award-winning writer, producer and film director who belongs to the Deniniu K’ue First Nation. Kelvin grew up in Hay River, Northwest Territories and now calls Vancouver home. His work covers both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal topics as well as First Nations community and aboriginal current affairs. In October 2016, Kelvin and his sister Tunchai launched 'We Matter', a national online campaign designed to bring awareness to the struggles of Indigenous youth across Canada. It is modelled after Dan Savage's 'It Gets Better' campaign and collects videos and writings from each Indigenous community across Canada with the aim of reducing the number of indigenous teen suicides, while also providing them with mental health resources. We Matter is a multi-media campaign in which Indigenous role models and allies submit art, written and video messages sharing their own experiences of overcoming hardships, and communicating with Indigenous youth that no matter how hopeless life can feel, there is always a way forward. Since launching in October 2016, the We Matter Campaign has reached millions of people on social media and continues to be an ever-growing library of positivity and hope. Kelvin and his sister mail the We Matter videos on USB drives to Indigenous communities across Canada who do not have internet access, and if you have some positive messages of support and encouragement for our Indigenous youth, you can even submit a video yourself! We had a great time catching up with Kelvin, and we hope you enjoy the episode. To find out more about We Matter, visit their website at: http://wematter.org

In a world overstimulated by the 24-hour news cycle, perpetual fear mongering from the government and media, and the overt sexuality that is forced down our throats by ubiquitous advertising campaigns, it's not hard to imagine a culture wrought with negative anxiety and an inaccurately perceived reality. The second in a three-part series, this week's episode is an attempt to embrace the irrational thought patterns that sustain our day-to-day choices and actions... both of which, may not even be our own.
